We’ve all had the experience of TIME running much faster than we want it to, and sometimes we actually run OUT of TIME, or find ourselves far behind a time schedule. That is especially true in a rebuilding project, have you experienced that? Join me again please in Jerusalem about 2500 years ago. Everywhere you look at that time, dirt is flying, as the ruins of the demolition of the city of Jerusalem and the great Temple of God are being cleared and restoration begun! Yesterday we looked at Ezra’s description of the rebuilding of the huge Altar for Burnt Offerings on the Temple mount. (Ezra 3:2) In fact that reconstruction happened exactly on the foundation of the original Altar which had first been constructed there almost 500 years before by King Solomon! The offerings given in the Tabernacle show us how to relate to God.  The burnt offering had to be given voluntarily, perfect, and acceptable unto God. It was wholly consumed and ascended as a sweet savor unto God.  Today it is Christ that has accepted us, not the other way around.  He gave Himself as a burnt offering and we too are to give ourselves as a living sacrifice, wholly acceptable unto God.  VF-2394 Watch, Listen and Learn 24x7 at PastorMelissaScott.com Pastor Melissa Scott teaches from Faith Center in Glendale. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.”Gen 22.2, “Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” - God provided a ram.Ex 10.24-29, Moses pleads with Pharaoh to let the Israelites go into the wilderness “to make burnt offerings to the Lord.” 12:06 - A Malawian perspective on owning a goat.  Hear from Pastor Edwin Thera in Malawi Africa on the value of a goat to a person living in a rural African village. 14:51 - Lev 1.3 - A male without defect.  The goat was to be without fault.  Mal 1.6-14 has harsh words from God for those trying to cheat God.16:40 - Jesus is our perfect sacrifice.1 Pet 1.18-19 tells us that Jesus is a lamb without blemish of defect.2 Cor 5.21 tells us that Jesus had no sin and was sacrificed for us. 18:07 - Lev 1.4 - “Lay Your Hand on its head; an atonement for you”19:09 - where does the term scapegoat come from?Leviticus Chapter 16 is all about the Day of Atonement, aka Yom Kippur. The high priest makes sacrifices for the nation of Israel; 1 Bull, 2 goats, and a ram.  The bull is offered for Aaron's own family & household.  One goat is sacrificed as a sin offering (Lev 4) and the ram is sacrificed as a burnt offering.  The second goat had all the sins of the people put on it and sent into the wilderness.  Jesus is our scapegoat!  Read Isa 53.6, Rev. 13.8 and Heb 10.10.22:00 - Lev 1.5 - “Splash the blood against the sides of the altar.” Lev 17.14 - the life of a creature is its blood22:40 -  Lev 1.9 - “burn all of it on the altar” - a burnt offering was fully consumed by the fire.  None of it was saved, or used for food by the priests, it was 100% a sacrifice to the Lord 23:01 - Where does the term Holocaust come from?  It is a Greek word “sacrifice by fire” - an offering completely burned by fire.  The word was appropriately chosen to describe the mass murder of +6mil Jewish people under the Nazi regime in Europe from 1941-45.  Before that, it was another term for the Israelite burnt offering, the holocaust offering.23:42 - Jesus is our burnt offering, he was fully consumed, and he gave up everything for us.  His entire life, from beginning to end.  Read John 10.14-1824:23 - what is the protoevangelium?25:43 - Lev 1.9 - An aroma pleasing to the Lord.  Read Ephesians 5:228:10 - Lev 1.10-13 - “From the flock”29:30 - Lev 1.14-17 - From the birds33:43 - Conclusions and application

Leviticus is one of the most daunting books in the Bible, but today we're going to start to unlock the gems that it has to offer... starting with the holy sacrifices of the burnt offering and what it means to be fully consecrated to the Lord. Join us as we see just how important and relevant this book is to our lives in Christ today.  DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1.    From this opening study of the book of Leviticus, would you describe it as a “worship manual”? Why or why not?  2.    The book of Leviticus derives its name from the Levites. Who were the Levites and what was their role among the Children of Israel? 3.    How did the podcast define “the Law”?  4.    According to the podcast, how did the Law teach the people about God's holiness?  5.    According to the podcast, how did the Law teach the people about the kind of worship that God accepts? 6.    According to the podcast, how did the Law teach the people that God wants to have fellowship with Him? 7.    According to the podcast, how did the Law show teach the people that the worship of God is personal? 8.    According to the podcast, how did the Law teach God's authority over every aspect of our lives? 9.    According to the podcast, how did the Law point to Jesus? 10.    There were several kinds of burnt offerings (daily, sabbath, festal, and voluntary). What set the “burnt offering” apart as the most sacred form of an offering? Why? 11.    What did the burnt offering uniquely show the person who was making the offering? 12.    Verse 2 taught that the animal had to come from the person's own flock (assuming they had one). Verse 3 says that the animal had to be “without defeat” (as in, healthy; not lame and dying). What did this show about the quality of this animal that was to be fully dedicated to God? How does this quality reflect the devotion of the worshipper?  13.    In verse 4, the worshipper was to lay their hands on the animal and identify themselves with it. What was this identification for? What was it supposed to show the worshipper?  14.    In verses 4, 5 & 6, the worshipper was to perform this sacrifice according to these specific steps (this was before the people's fall in Numbers 13). How do you think the offeror's involvement would personalize this ceremony and makes it “real” for the worshipper?  15.    What provision is given in verse 14 for those who could not afford an animal from their herd? What does this show us about the Lord's desire for His people to be in fellowship with Him? 16.    In light of Leviticus 1, how is the Burnt Offering the ultimate act of consecration? How does this reflect our consecration that we have in Christ, today? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! The Noahic Covenant: Humanity's Path to Redemption Greetings, saints of the Most High. Welcome to another installment of the Messianic Torah Observer. I'm Rod Thomas, coming to you on a beautiful Shabbat in the DFW area. I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well and blessed. Today, we delve into the Noahic Covenant, the second rung on Yehovah's ladder leading to our redemption. This covenant, established after the Great Flood, is foundational to our understanding of redemption and renewal. Our Torah Reading for this week is contained in Genesis 8.15-9.17, with the haftarah reading to be found in Isaiah 42.7-21, and the apostolic in 2 Timothy 2.8-19. I've chosen to entitle this post: “From Flood to Faith—The Enduring Promise of the Noahic Covenant – My Thoughts and Reflections on Torah Reading 7.” Key Concepts: Covenant (Brit): Yehovah's plan to redeem humanity. Renewal: The command to repopulate the Earth and renew the original Edenic/Adamic Covenant. Burnt Offerings: Noah's offerings on a rebuilt altar, leading Yehovah to resolve never to curse the ground or destroy all living creatures again. Yehovah acknowledges humanity's inherent evil but blesses Noah and his sons, reasserting human dominion over creation and lifting the prohibition against consuming animals for food. However, the consumption of blood and murder are strictly prohibited, with severe consequences for violators. The Noahic Covenant is a unilateral covenant, with Yehovah doing the heavy lifting to restore the broken relationship between Him and humanity. This covenant lays the groundwork for humanity to develop a "yetzer tov" (good inclination) and fulfill its purpose as Yehovah's image bearers on Earth. Significance of the Covenant: Unconditional Blessings: Despite humanity's shortcomings, Yehovah honors His covenant promises, symbolized by the rainbow. Foundation for Redemption: The Noahic Covenant is crucial for humanity's full redemption, reaffirming our inherent value as Yehovah's imagers and paving the way for future covenants. In conclusion, the Noahic Covenant is a testament to Yehovah's grace and commitment to humanity's redemption. As we reflect on this covenant, let us strive to overcome our "yetzer ra" (evil inclination) and walk in righteousness, fulfilling our purpose as Yehovah's image bearers. Shabbat Shalom. Faithfully submitted, Rod Thomas, The Messianic Torah Observer https://www.themessianictorahobserver.org/2024/11/16/marring-the-image-of-the-creator-yehovah-through-rebelliousness-thoughts-and-reflections-on-torah-reading-4-2/

What's the Difference Between Burnt Offerings and Sin Offerings?

The Old Testament Law given to Moses after Israel's deliverance from Egypt was filled with rituals and sacrifices. All of this was designed to teach God's people two very basic principles. These principles are fundamental for any civilization that seeks to perpetuate itself. The first principle is to comply with righteous and just rules that transcend human desires. For Israel, this meant they could have the favor, protection and leadings of God if they remained in harmony with His commands. This required sacrifices. The second principle is to live with humble gratitude for the freedoms that righteousness and justice provide. Israel was to learn this power of thankfulness by practicing heart gratitude towards God for all of His mercies. All of this required animal sacrifices. Why? In the Old Testament, it is hard to avoid animal sacrifices. They first appear in Genesis after Adam and Eve sinned. The Bible tells us God provided them with animal skins as clothing. This would be an obvious reference to the fact that covering humanity's sins could only be done through a sacrifice. This one example lays out how God would illustrate the need for justice to be satisfied up until Jesus came. What about the Tabernacle? When Israel was wandering in the wilderness, God instructed them to build the Tabernacle. This would be their portable place of worship. It would be the place where God's presence could be felt, and His favor would be evident. It was within this structure that many different kinds of sacrifices took place. There were sin offerings, burnt offerings, peace offerings and wave offerings just to name a few. As we look at this from our 21st century perspective, we wonder why. What was the point of all these rituals? This is a really good question. Though detailed, the answer is even better. Let's start with the sin offering made on the annual Day of Atonement. These were the very basis of all the rest of the sacrifices, as they were in place to satisfy justice, to cover the people's sins. The sin offering made annually was a specific requirement to maintain God's favor. Without them, any and all other offerings could not have been acceptable to God. Comprehending the importance of this piece helps us grasp how the other pieces fit into the puzzle. Check out our November 04, 2024 podcast, “What's the Difference Between Burnt Offerings and Sin Offerings?” for more. We clearly define the how and why of the sin offerings, including what they represented for Christians. We then look into how the burnt offerings are different and what they represent for us as well. Further, we examine what a peace offering is and how it's given based on these other sacrifices. What we find is a startling explanation that unfolds how God's plan unfolds through Jesus. The connections are amazing! Join us as we make what sound like complex ancient rituals simple and meaningful!

Welcome back to the Open Our Bibles Together podcast!   As promised at the end of our last episode, back to school equals back to the podcast after a much-needed summer break. It is honestly mind-blowing to consider all of the changes happening in our home and lives this Fall which makes me SUPER GRATEFUL I had the opportunity to slow down and soak in all of the times our F7 family spent together in Summer 2024. It truly was quite a blessing, BUT NOW, I'm back and VERY ready to dive into our studies in the book of Leviticus together.   Sooooo, as a bit of a refresher, please recall that Leviticus picks up right where Exodus left off. At the end of Exodus, we saw that God filled the tent with His glory after the Tabernacle was completed, but His presence was too holy, so not even Moses could enter. The question Exodus left us with is this… How can we live in the presence of our holy God? Well, friends, we find that answer in the book of Leviticus!! How's that for an enticing teaser to an often overlooked and frequently abandoned book of the Bible?! LOL!   As we pick up today (and before we explore Leviticus chapters 5 through 7), we first take a step back to consider a couple 30,000 feet/big picture story type views I found on repeat over and over and over again in my studies... this time by focusing in on the themes of God's holiness and His Presence among His people. God With Us. So good.   In this episode, we'll also unpack the various offerings described in these chapters, including the Sin Offering, Guilt Offering, Burnt Offering, Grain Offering, and Peace Offering. We discuss the significance of these sacrifices, their role in atonement and purification, and how they point us to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ.   Honestly, there's all this and so much more in this first episode release after our OOBT summer break! Be sure you don't miss out on this one! I can't wait to study with you!     For the full episode show notes, please go to https://mfahring.com/leviticus-5-7/
