Tennessee tight end Austin Pope has been through numerous coaches, staffs and has dealt with multiple injuries during his playing career in Knoxville. It’s been an interesting five years for the Knoxville native, who has played in 33 games during his time on the hill. He graduated from Tennessee in December of 2020 and came back to play this season, looking to be the veteran leader. Unfortunately for Austin, he’s dealt with a few setbacks. He had surgery in July and August of 2020 to fix a herniated disc in his back, but that wasn’t the only setback during this time. After long hours of rehab and work to get back on the field, he returned for spring practice under Josh Heupel. But for Austin, 2020 wouldn’t be the last time his back caused him problems. Austin wanted to discuss his time at Tennessee and the unfortunate timing of his recent setback. He gave his all for his team, so, I sat down with Austin and let him tell you in his own words about his time in Knoxville and why his football career is coming to an end, on his terms. Listen to our full interview with Austin below. The post Tennessee TE Austin Pope Forced To Hang Up His Cleats appeared first on Rocky Top Insider.

GoVols247's Wes Rucker, Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan (from his house) convened via the magic of Al Gore's Internets to kickoff the week with a discussion on several pertinent topics. The first segment of this episode starts with (of course) and update on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on college football heading into the 2020 season, and it wraps up with discussion on the loss of reserve safety Brandon Davis to the NCAA transfer portal. The reasons for Davis' exit and its impact on the team is discussed in detail. Segment Two starts with a quick update on Tennessee basketball recruiting (there's big news there) before settling into a detailed discussion on Vols football recruiting. Tennessee still has one of the nation's best classes, and some really big prospects — including multiple five-star prospects — are still on the board. A quick discussion on where things stand for the Vols at tight end following the latest injury to senior starter Austin Pope wraps up this episode. The next GoVols247 Podcast episode will be released Thursday, unless major breaking news occurs before that point. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Erik and Brian recap the weekend in sports and discuss the latest news regarding Tennessee's Austin Pope.
Will Shelton of Gameday on Rocky Top joined Josh Ward on Sports 180 to talk all things Vol football and basketball. Plus, will gives his take on Emmit Gooden being dismissed from the team and Austin Pope having back surgery.
GoVols247's Wes Rucker and Patrick Brown convened via the magic of Al Gore's Internets to discuss a week with a trifecta of rough news for a Tennessee program that had previously enjoyed a feel-good summer. Rough news began in the middle of the week, when it was revealed that multiple Tennessee student-athletes in multiple sports — including football — had tested positive for COVID-19. None of the 91 Tennessee football players on campus had tested positive in the first round of tests last month, but the tests after the July 4 holiday weekend revealed a different story. Specific numbers weren't given, either, which on the surface sounded a bit ominous. Conversations with people in the program have revealed that it's not a horrible situation at this point, though, so the first segment of this episode is focused on putting that news in perspective. The second segment of this episode is focused on the fallout from this week's news that Tennessee senior starting tight end Austin Pope has had another back surgery and senior defensive lineman Emmit Gooden has been dismissed from the program following an arrest for his alleged actions in a troubling off-the-field incident. The next GoVols247 Podcast episode will be released Monday, unless major breaking news occurs before that point. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
GoVols247's Wes Rucker and Patrick Brown went into the GoVols247 Mobile Studio — aka a hotel room — in Jacksonville to discuss Tennessee's first full day of on-site preparation for Thursday's TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against Indiana at TIAA Bank Field, the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. The first segment of this episode is a brief discussion of the Vols' first day in Jacksonville, including insights and analysis from Tennessee's afternoon practice at the University of North Florida. The second segment of this episode features interviews with second-year Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, junior quarterback Jarrett Guarantano and junior offensive lineman Trey Smith. The third segment of this episode is a discussion of those interviews — including Smith's comments on his upcoming NFL Draft decision — and some discussion on an interesting note about an injury Tennessee junior tight end Austin Pope played through late in the regular season. The next GoVols247 Podcast episode will be released Monday night, unless breaking news occurs before that point. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
