Clare's Chief Fire Officer is urging people not to light fire under any circumstances this week. The Banner County will be under a status yellow high temperature warning from 12pm on Saturday until 6am on Sunday, with temperatures of above 27 degrees expected. Met Éireann is warning of potential water safety issues, forest fires, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and heat stress. Clare County Fire and Rescue Service's Chief Fire Officer Adrian Kelly has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons once a fire starts, particularly near vegetation, it's very difficult to stop it.

A family gathering worth an estimated quarter of a million euro to the Clare economy is taking place this weekend. Over 150 members of the O'Dea clan from around the world are descending on the Banner County for their latest international gathering. Extended members of the family are coming together to mark 707 years since their ancestors were involved in the Battle of Dysart O'Dea. A full weekend of activities, including a special exhibition, in partnership with the O'Dea Clan Convention, lie in store for the weekend. Clare has the third-highest rate of business closures so far this year. An analysis of data from the Companies Registration Office by business utility consultancy procure.ie has found that the Banner County has had 60.2 closures per 100,000 businesses in the first three months of 2025. A total of 77 businesses have ceased trading here since January 1st, with Dublin and Louth being the only counties with a higher closure rate. Owner of St Tola Goat Cheese and Irish Small and Medium Enterprise Association National Council member, Siobhán Ní Ghairbith, says staffing is one of the greatest challenges.

Clare artists have once again shown what huge hearts they have in donating an array of uniquely special artworks for this year's incognito art sale in aid of the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation. A total of six artists from the Banner County have come together to back the fundraising endeavour, which enables eight Clare families to continue to receive vital care and support from the Foundation for their children. The Tellus survey is undertaking the final phases of a national airborne survey over counties Clare and Kerry this year. When finished, the survey will be complete for the whole country, making Ireland one of the best geophysical mapped countries in the world. The survey takes off this spring with the two aircraft crossing the skies of counties the Banner County and the Kingdom. Power has been restored to a further 6,000 premises across the Banner County, as just over 16,000 households and businesses brace for a fourth day without power. Supply was restored to properties in the Kilkee, Whitegate, Feakle, Tulla and Kilnamona areas yesterday evening, taking the total number of restorations seen in Clare to over 28,000 ESB crews have been working to restore power to homes and businesses in Sixmilebridge, Moveen, Lahinch, Quilty, Broadford, and Carigaholt across last night and this morning. The ESB has described Storm Éowyn as "by far the worst storm" it's ever experienced in terms of customers losing supply and the scale of damage to the network. There are suggestions that the "silent killer" otherwise known as poor air quality isn't being addressed in County Clare. It's being claimed that Ennis in particular, has a problem with smog. This week's meetings of Clare County Council and Ennis Municipal District have heard calls for additional measures to be taken to tackle substandard air quality in the Banner County. Figures provided by Ennis Municipal District show that the allowed limit of particulate matter was breached seven times in the county town last year, which was down 36% from 2023. Despite this, Clarecastle Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom O'Callaghan and Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard believe Clare needs to clean up its act when it comes to air quality. Gardaí are urging motorists to watch out for black ice, following heavy snowfall in parts of Clare yesterday. A status yellow warning for low temperatures remains in place for the entire country until Thursday, and some parts of the Banner County remain affected by a blanket of snow. Meanwhile, around 537 properties in Clare remain without power following the adverse weather conditions. Clare isn't expected to see a significant reduction in homelessness until the right housing is built. The Banner County has experienced a 25% spike in the number of adults living in emergency accommodation within the past year, with 85 recorded as homeless in November compared to just 68 in the same month in 2023. A report from the Parliamentary Budget Office earlier this year recommended that Clare County Council boost its social housing stock by 58% to keep in line with housing need. Head of Policy and Communications with Midwest homeless charity Novas, Una Byrnes, says it's all about providing suitable accommodation.

Car sales in Clare last month were down over 70% on the same time last year. As is traditionally the case in November, car registrations saw a dip here last month, dropping from 46 in October to just four. While this is a 73% decrease in the space of a year, car sales in 2024 to date here are up 3% on 2023, with 2,467 units sold so far in the Banner County compared to 2,395 last year. Director General of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, Brian Cooke, claims growth is being seen in the new car market nationwide.

Quare Clare, the Banner County's LGBTQIA+ group is running a series of workshops around Clare, aimed at enlightening people on the LGBTQIA+ community. The free workshops are described as a great opportunity for teachers, community/youth workers, parents or anyone working or engaging with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity to learn more about the community. This month marks the 70th anniversary of the renowned American photographer Dorothea Lange's visit to Clare. In September 1954, she came to Clare, with the aim of capturing rural life in Ireland.
