My guest today is Bex Burton who is a love and relationship coach. And, over the last 18 months, Bex has struggled to attract clients. Now, client attraction hasn't always been this challenging for Bex, so we've both been on the hunt for that missing link Bex's business really needs. I actually came into this episode feeling kinda frustrated because Bex is awesome and her work truly helps people… so what the heck have we been missing? Inside the Hive, we've been working on niching down for Bex and we've gotten close… we just hadn't totally nailed it yet. But today's conversation was a turning point because rather than sticking to the traditional, often surface level approach to niching, Bex and I took a three-pronged approach. We focused on her audience and their shared experience, her process and what makes it unique from other love coaches out there, and Bex's stance… what matters most to her. With this deeper approach to niching, Bex and I uncovered three things: 1. The core pillars all of her content must connect back to in order to pack a punch. 2. The value of reflecting her client's beliefs and lived experience in her message 3. And, the excitement that comes when you're willing to go all in on your stance in your marketing If you ever wonder how the heck to narrow your niche without pigeon-holing yourself, this episode is a must-listen. So, let's get started. Today’s guest is Bex Burton, a love coach who specializes in working with fiercely independent women to create lasting love and deeply connected partnership. I felt an immediate draw to Bex and her work as the language she speaks is so resonant in the world of dating and relationship for women in later chapters of life looking for that mutually loving partnership. We dive into some fun, real, and empowering conversation around a wide array of topics in this realm including the difference between being independent vs. sovereign, self-love, emotional availability, and -- my favorite part of our chat -- the “buttpucker zone." I left this conversation feeling enlivened, inspired, and eager for more! I hope that you will as well. A Note: I will be bringing both Bex and her hubby, Nicholas Whitaker (Episode 27) back together to share their collective wisdom for a deep dive into the realm of relationship in a few weeks! If you know you have issues, should you drop the bomb sooner, later, or not at all? What’s the difference between TMI, and truth in dating anyway? On this week’s episode, we’re inviting love coach Bex Burton and medical therapist Dr. Gretchen Kubacky to share their thoughts on the perils and pluses of letting it rip and keeping it zipped when dating.
Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership
Do you follow your "Yes?"Following your "Yes" is about you taking a step forward in your partnerships by taking action and applying at least one thing you heard from our guests during their interviews this week. On today’s episode, all of this week’s guests have generously provided BONUS MATERIAL, not included in the interviews you listened to earlier this week. Each one has provided incredible examples of the power of following your “Yes”. Enjoy! Robert Kandell (https://speakingofpartnership.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Headshot2_full.jpg) Not Following - Robert was in love with a women, and part of an organization and community that was very intense. The strong social leader of this organization advised him to split up with her. She told him that his partner was holding him back and told his partner that he was holding her back. Even though he didn’t believe her and agree with her request, he did it anyway. That was over 10 years ago and Robert still has an ache around not listening to his internal guidance. It ended up really messing up his love for quite some time afterwards. Following - In the same group that he dedicated about 12 years of his life to, about a year before leaving, he was being moved around from different centres of the organization all around the world. After being moved for a third time in less than a year, he was by himself one night and decided that he didn’t want to be moved around like this for the rest of his life. He wanted more control and to live his life they way he wanted to. She read through the invitation for what the role called for and she felt like it was a stretch for her to perform and it was out of her comfort zone. It was calling for someone to wear lingerie and play the role of a dominatrix. She really ended up giving it her all for the auditions and rehearsals because at that time she thought she wanted to be a full-time performer. Find out the rest of her story by listening to her interview. Following - Bex tells us of how things came about with her relationship with her husband. She had just been let go of the performance group, and she was feeling terrible. After a bit of time she was finally able to shift that feeling and knew that it wasn’t her true, authentic ‘yes’. She started thinking about what was really in alignment with her vision and her art. She was gifted this vision of creating this large scale hole hoop performance, which ultimately led her to her husband. She ended up writing the love story performance that ended up coming true for her. This was a truly lovely story that Bex shared. Listen to hear the rest of the story. Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership
Bex Burton is a Certified DreamBuilder and Love Coach. She supports smart, successful, single women in becoming radiant and magnetic to LOVE, so they can attract lasting, loving, soulmate relationships with amazing men. After failing painfully at love for well over a decade, Bex set out to “get to the bottom” of what wasn’t working. Along the way, she discovered her own personal Majesty, “accidentally” wrote her own true love story, brought it to life through hula hoop performance art, and attracted an extraordinary man, who is now her husband. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra We’re a team, we’re on the same side, and nobody is at fault. When You Tripped Up One thing that Bex tripped up on consistently for 10+ years was when she was dating quality men, she would have a “dumpster fire fight” and end everything and walk away. She would always put the blame on her partner. Years later she would realize that she was only looking to blame the other person and take none of it herself. That “Duh” Moment Bex goes back to that trip up moment where she would exit out of relationships so unskilfully when the person was a great person. Bex would finally wake up from that and realize that it was her and not him. She began to look back on all of her relationships with quality men and it occurred to her that she was the common denominator. Find out the rest of her story and how she turned things around, by listening to her interview. Proudest Moment in Partnership Bex is a strong believer that you can’t get rid of your past or your childhood programming. She does believe that you develop your skills, that you learn from your experiences, and grow overtime so that you partner with others better and better. What she has noticed in herself, her husband, friends, and clients, is that there are those fear centres within. Even in her current relationship with her husband, she has felt herself shapeshifting and exiling the greatest parts of herself. She would soon clue in and realize this is what happens when you’re in a relationship. What she’s so proud of is now being able to work with these relationship situations and having the tools available to know what to do. Episode 16 - Bex Burton: Tuning in to the Universe Lucky, lucky me! I got to sit down with Bex at Hoopcamp this year and have an incredible talk. This amazing woman is so in tune with the Universe. It gives her a sign and she runs with it with so much passion and love and appreciation. She’s a dancer, a hooper, a Pilates instructor, a masseuse, a life and love coach. Movement is her muse. We met a couple years ago at Hoopcamp and although I can’t remember the circumstances, I remember that we made eye contact and I felt this incredible warmth. I felt like I knew her. And funny thing, she said the same thing about me. But it took a couple years to actually spend some time getting to know each other and holy crap! I am so glad I did. In this interview, Bex shares her fascinating life and honestly, something happened to me. I’m still digesting it. She moved my heart in a way that made me see how I’ve been looking at myself and at my life. I’ve been looking inward, but not in the good way. I’ve been stuck emotionally and physically for about a year and after our conversation, my brain started churning. So many possibilities! My first step was to be a hoop student again so I signed up for a workshop when I got home. Best choice ever! Something has shifted and Bex gave me a push. I think the Universe just gave me a sign and thanks to Bex, I’m going to run with it.
