Hi dear one, We've all been there—scrolling through social media, comparing our lives to someone else's highlight reel. Or getting stuck in the cycle of complaining or criticizing. These “cancers of the mind,” as Jay Shetty calls them, create so much unnecessary suffering. But here's the good news: We can choose differently. My dear friend Jeanie Iberlin shared her 3 C's for joy: compassion, connection, and calmness. • Instead of comparing, practice compassion—be gentle with yourself. • Instead of complaining, find connection—ask yourself: How can I connect with this moment or someone around me? • And instead of criticizing, invite calmness—pause, breathe, and notice the beauty around you. This week, I invite you to notice when comparison, complaining, or criticism arise, and choose compassion, connection, or calmness instead. Let me know how it feels. And if you'd like more guidance, tune in to the latest episode of Mindful Pause Podcast. Let's create more joy together. With love, Audrey P.S. Want to go deeper? However, through perseverance and a willingness to be vulnerable and open to change, he has made significant leaps forward in his own life.JT's journey began at what felt like a breaking point. On Mother's Day in 2016, he was rushed to the hospital with a suspected appendicitis, which turned out to be a massive infection in his digestive system. Having never experienced anything like that before, he was terrified for his life.During his recovery in the hospital and at home over the next few months, JT began to reflect on the direction his life was headed. Despite achieving considerable success by society's standards, he knew deep down that he wasn't living up to his full potential. This realization marked the beginning of JT's lifelong commitment to spiritual and personal development. He started reading books and listening to podcasts on personal growth and self-development. He decided to leave a successful 15-year career as a high school teacher and coach because his heart wasn't in it anymore. Although he loved helping people, he realized he wanted to serve them outside the classroom and off the field. In his first few months away from teaching, JT hit a low point, feeling lost and confused. His career had always come naturally to him, but he knew it was costing him his wellness and his relationship with his wife and kids. That's when JT discovered the teachings of Bob Proctor. Thanks to Bob Proctor, JT learned about the laws of attraction and how to create his own reality. After completing Proctor's Thinking Into Results course, JT gained clarity on creating and living a life of FREEDOM. He learned that, contrary to his upbringing, better results could be achieved with a positive and strategic mindset, rather than just working harder. As JT's awareness increased and his dreams and goals became more defined, what he wanted for himself started manifesting in his life. He traveled extensively with his wife and kids to experience world cultures. He moved from London (Ontario) to Toronto to pursue the lifestyle he always dreamed of, where family and loved ones come first. He and his family redesigned their businesses to work remotely and manage their schedules. After making a series of life-changing decisions he would never have dared to make before, JT wanted to teach others the valuable tools he had learned. To provide the best coaching possible, he decided to be mentored by Bob Proctor as a teacher of the Thinking Into Results program.JT uses the principles of Thinking Into Results to help individuals make powerful shifts in their mindset. Do you ever find yourself lost in worry at 3 AM, your mind racing through all the what-ifs? In a busy world, it's easy to get caught up on an endless mental treadmill, always chasing the future and missing out on the magic happening right now. It's so easy to get swept up in the chaos of technology—apps, texts, emails—not to mention every day LIFE responsibilities pulling at u…and forget to live in the moment. Just the other night, I had a heart-to-heart with a friend over dinner about this very struggle. She said something that really hit home: "Worrying is worshiping what you don't want." Isn't that powerful? It perfectly sums up how we often let future anxieties steal our present joy. Today, we dive deep into this topic. I share some personal stories, including a life-changing moment from my time in Bali, and offer some down-to-earth tips to help you stay anchored in the now. Here are a few quick tips to bring more presence into your life: 1. Take a Breather: When things get too much, just take a few deep breaths to ground yourself. 2. Mindful Observing: Watch your thoughts without judgment and gently bring your focus back to the present. 3. Gratitude Practice: Regularly remind yourself of what you're grateful for in this moment. With love and presence, Audrey

Hey there soul friend, I just got back from our incredible Bali retreat, my heart is bursting with gratitude of witnessing the beauty of Bali and everyone's transformations! The experience was beyond words, and I'm thrilled to announce we'll be returning next year – the magic is simply irresistible! Returning from such soul-nourishing experiences, it's common to feel the brightness fade as we re-enter our daily routines. How do we hold onto that light? How do we nurture it in the hustle and bustle of everyday life? One powerful way is to connect with your intuition – that sacred space within you that always speaks the truth. It's your inner wisdom and a connection to the Divine. Have you ever felt those gentle nudges from within, urging you to pay attention? Those are the whispers of your intuition – guiding you towards alignment and growth with love and grace. In today's episode of the Mindful Pause Podcast, we delve into the magic of tuning into your spiritual intuition and ways to connect. I share insights on "microscopic truths," those delicate signals from your body indicating something needs attention. Whether it's a flutter in your belly or a heaviness in your chest, these whispers invite you to pause, listen, and trust your inner guidance. The more we honor and nurture our intuition, the more we cultivate ease and trust within ourselves and our journey. Here are some gentle reminders to nurture your intuition: 1. Embrace Stillness: Carve out moments of quiet to commune with the whispers of your heart, creating space amidst the noise of the mind. 2. Trust Your Inner Wisdom: Believe in the innate wisdom within you – often, the first instinct is the truest. 3. Share Your Truth: Pay attention to the subtle truths in your body and share them with trusted loved ones with vulnerability and love. Thanks for listening to the full episode [here](insert podcast link) to embark on this journey of self-discovery and intuition! As you navigate your week, I invite you to pause from the chatter of your mind and pay attention to the whispers of your intuition, trusting that you are always guided, always supported, and always loved. With abundant love, Audrey Self-Love Coach audrey@audreysuttonmills.com
Hi there , Have you ever found yourself in the judgment trap, feeling inadequate and unworthy? Judgement isn't just about criticizing others, but it also picks apart our flaws and magnifies our mistakes. It whispers cruel “shoulds” and “shouldn'ts,” leaving us feeling unworthy and unlovable. Often the judgments we make on others are reflections of our own insecurities and judgements about ourselves. The sad part about listening to judgement is that when we judge others, we close ourselves off from the beauty of their potential and the richness of their experiences. We miss out on the opportunity to truly connect and understand one another. But perhaps even more damaging is the judgment we inflict upon ourselves. This week, your invitation is to consciously recognize the harmful voice of the Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee—the voice that tells us we're not good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough, and instead of buying into its negative narrative, choose to practice Ahimsa. Ahimsa is the Sanskrit terms that means nonviolence towards ourselves and others. But Ahimsa is not just about refraining from physical harm but also about abstaining from harmful thoughts and beliefs. When we embrace Ahimsa, we break free from the cycle of self-inflicted suffering and open ourselves up to a life of compassion and grace. Each time you notice, pause and choose to not harm yourself through judgment that creates separation from others and ourselves, you move closer towards your True Self. Listen HERE to the full episode EP 189. Thanks for sharing it with friends who could use a little soul nourishment too. Sending you all the good vibes and virtual hugs, Audrey
Hey there, I have a vulnerable share. I've struggled with perfectionism these past few years, and it's been so paralyzing that it's silenced my voice and my gifts as a teacher and coach. In the online coaching world, the pressure to be flawless, to have all the answers and to be the expert has been overwhelming. Perfectionism has caused to show up inauthentically (hello imposter syndrome!) …or show up as a flat version of my personality… or worse - not show up at all!... only to be met with shame for not doing and being more. Perfectionism is like a sneaky thief, robbing us of our joy and confidence. But over these years of doing the self-love work on myself, I can tell you this: imperfection is where the magic happens. It's the portal to our True Self. In Japanese culture, there's a concept called "wabi-sabi" – it's all about embracing imperfection as the essence of beauty in life. Think of it like the cracks in a piece of pottery making it even more beautiful and unique. For me, my sensitivity has always been a flaw and weakness, but not I can see that my sensitivity IS my gift – it's literally how I connect with my community and how I heal others. So when that Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee starts to rear its head, remember this: Notice, Pause, Choose: Notice: Recognize that criticizing voice. Pause: Take a deep breath and come back to the present moment. Choose: opt for a thought that lifts you up and reminds you of your worth. And remember, your imperfections are your superpowers. Also, I've been using this mantra for myself and I've felt it's power. I hope it helps you return to yours too! "I embrace all of me and I am needed in this world." I hope today's soul note helps you break free from trying to please others or feel like an imposter and remember your gifts that only you have and gives you the courage to step into them and share them with the world! Much love, Audrey p.s. if you need personalize coaching, I'm here to help you deepen your self-love and connect to your intuition to create the life you love.
Today Debbie talks to Patty Ivey about life changes and opportunities opening up for her after being diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer last year. Inspiring doesn't really cover it as a way to describe Patty. Neither does [b]old, as in [B]OLD AGE. Patty and Debbie go back at least 15 years, when Debbie was a regular at Patty's Down Dog yoga studio in DC. It was always special when Patty, the owner, taught a class. Her classes were different. They offered all the benefits that practicing yoga offers beyond what happens on the mat; with Patty teaching, the class was mind-expanding. She made yoga open up new possibilities for how to live. So when Debbie saw Patty posting beautiful, bald photos of herself on her LinkedIn page, she immediately got in touch to find out how she was doing. As Patty explains it, she is using life principles from yoga, which include leaving room for what we don't know and focusing on something bigger than ourselves, as she looks ahead. She acknowledges an identity shift that has come with cancer. Some older version of herself is no longer there, but she's okay with that. Like most women, Debbie is terrified of getting breast cancer, but with Patty as a guide (she's also a mentor and a life coach as well as being a serial entrepreneur), it seems there could be an upside. We hope you are as inspired by this conversation as Debbie was. //////////Don't miss the Behind The Scenes for every podcast episode in Debbie's [B]OLD AGE newsletter on Substack.////////// Mentioned in this episode or useful:Patty's website: https://thepattyivey.com/Patty on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pattyiveyHer studio in DC: https://www.downdogyoga.com/Her yoga teacher Baron Baptiste: https://www.baptisteyoga.com/Connect with Debbie:debbieweil.com[B]OLD AGE podcast[B]OLD AGE newsletter on SubstackEmail: thebolderpodcast@gmail.comDebbie and Sam's blog: Gap Year After SixtyFacebook: @debbieweilInstagram: @debbieweilLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/debbieweil Our Media Partners:CoGenerate (formerly Encore.org)MEA and with thanks to Chip ConleyNext For Me (former media partner and in memory of Jeff Tidwell) How to Support this podcast:Leave a review on Apple PodcastsSubscribe via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher or Spotify Credits:Host: Debbie WeilProducer: Far Out MediaMusic: Lakeside Path by Duck Lake
Do you ever have those days where self-doubt just seems to sneak in and rain on your parade? Yup, me too. In my book on how to quiet our Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee, I share about The Four Horsemen: Comparison, Self-Doubt, Perfectionism, and Judgment that slays our self-worth. Personally, I've gone through a lot of transition over the past 3 years and have struggled a lot with the Four Horsemen that slays our self-worth. Each week this month, I share how we can befriend each of these horsemen and ways to choose to align with our True abundant Self. After having my second child during the pandemic, plus moving an hour away from the city and giving up my thriving Seattle yoga classes, not getting to travel for my yoga retreats, and also shifting my career and launching my Soul School coaching program, I was in a big liminal season of letting go of who I once knew to move into the unknown of who I yearned to be. But those 3 years rocked my identity and confidence in myself. The world seemed so fast and overwhelming. Because I had taken a hiatus from coaching and teaching for a few years, I lost my sense of who I was and trust in myself, and I constantly doubted myself and my gifts. But slowly, I'm coming home to myself and to my inner knowing…it's through the practice of slowing down, meditating to practice being present and using these little mindfulness tools that I teach each week. If you too struggle with self-doubt, here are 3 easy ways to help silence the itty-bitty-shitty-committee and reclaim your confidence: Negative Mantra Breakthrough: When self-doubt creeps in, try this negative mantra: "I don't do self-sabotage." It halts the negative spiraling and is like a gentle reminder to yourself that you're stronger than those doubts. Appreciation: Take a moment to reflect on your past achievements. Go back 1 year, then 5 years and 10 years. Let those memories of your unique gifts wrap around you like a warm hug, reminding you of your worth and strength. Positive Affirmation Boost: Each time you feel unsure, repeat the mantra: "When I align with my true nature, I am infinite possibilities." Let this mantra remind you that you are enough and guide you towards embracing your inner power and potential. If you're curious to learn more, check out my latest podcast episode: "Slaying Self-Doubt." Have you listened to my podcast yet? It's like a cozy chat with a soulful friend, packed with mindfulness tips and affirmations to help us both find some inner calm and joy. Remember, you're stronger than you think, and you're never alone on this path to self-discovery. I'm right there with you holding your hand and heart for deeper Self-love. And if you want to dive in deeper, I'm here to personally help you with my Self-love coaching. In gratitude, Audrey

In the Intro to this episode, you'll hear Steven Petrow talking about his sister Julie Petrow's death last June 2023. After years of battling ovarian cancer, Julie, Steven's five-years-younger little sister, chose to die in her New Jersey home by drinking a lethal cocktail. She was surrounded by her family. And it was legal. She used a procedure called MAID or medical aid in dying, which is now legal in 10 states in the U.S. plus the district of Columbia. But before she died, she made Steven, who is a bestselling author and a contributing columnist for The Washington Post, promise to write about how she chose to die, in order to raise awareness around MAID, a practice that many people don't know about, or don't understand, even though it was first legalized in Oregon, almost 30 years ago. So Steven did, publishing an essay about Julie and her decision in The New York Times a few months ago. It got a huge reception with over 600 comments on the NYT's site. In this episode, Steven explains more: What the term medical aid in dying means and what it is exactly (it used to be called physician assisted suicide, but a physician is NOT present)Why he thinks only 9,000 people have availed themselves of the procedure since it first became legalizedWhy it's mostly used by educated whites (for one thing, the cocktail of lethal drugs cost $700 to $900 and is NOT reimbursable)This is simply a fascinating episode and Steven is a lovely guest, eloquent, respectful, and informed. It was such a pleasure to have him back on the show. As always, see below for links to his articles and books, including the NYT article, and a link to the first time he was on the show almost three years ago. //////////Don't miss Debbie's Behind The Scenes essay on Substack accompanying every episode of the podcast. ////////// Mentioned in this episode or useful:Steven Petrow's websiteI Promised My Sister I Would Write About How She Chose to Die by Steven Petrow (New York Times, Dec. 28, 2024)A cancer patient had decided how to die. Today, Debbie talks with Kirsten Powers, a New York Times bestselling author, a liberal columnist and, most recently, an on-air political analyst with CNN. In 2023, after almost two decades, she left what she calls the “media circus” to pursue a different life as a writer and a life coach. Kirsten, who is 56, is [b]old by any definition.Prior to CNN she was at Fox (as a liberal voice) and before that she was a columnist for USA Today, The Daily Beast, American Prospect Online, and the New York Post. Her recent bestselling book is Saving Grace: Speak Your Truth, Stay Centered, and Learn to Coexist with People Who Drive You Nuts.Currently Kirsten writes a very popular newsletter on Substack, called, appropriately, "Changing the Channel." It's about living authentically, unlearning societal conditioning, and how to actually change your life. She published an essay recently about her plan to move to Italy with her husband because, as she put it, the U.S. is unlivable, with school shootings, the frenetic pace of life and because it's too expensive. Somehow we are societally conditioned to accept this, as if it's normal. But it's not, Kirsten emphasizes. The post went viral, hitting a nerve with her many readers. Now she's working on a book proposal. Since leaving her on-air job, Kirsten has been deliberately pursuing what she calls a "more easeful life" that is less striving and less accomplishment-oriented. It includes writing on Substack, which she loves. In this episode she also talks about her transition from evangelical christian to atheist. Kirsten is fast thinking and provocative and Debbie loved this conversation with her. //////////Don't miss the Behind The Scenes for every episode in Debbie's [B]OLD AGE newsletter.////////// Mentioned in this episode or useful:Kirsten Powers - Wikipediakirstenpowers.comChanging the Channel : Kirsten's Substack newsletterThe way we live in the United States is not normal: Kirsten's viral Substack post about moving to Italy (Nov. 29, 2023)Saving Grace: Speak Your Truth, Stay Centered, and Learn to Coexist with People Who Drive You Nuts by Kirsten Powers (Convergent Books; Nov. 2021)Kirsten Powers: A liberal working for Fox News (Washington Post, June 17, 2015)What are the Nine Enneagram Types?CP Enneagram where Kirsten is studying for an Enneagram certificate.Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®)Jonathan Merritt on Personal Transformation and the Complicated Intersection of Faith and Culture: Season 5, Episode 19 of the podcast.Behind the Scenes with Jonathan Merritt by Debbie Weil (Substack, July 7, 2023)My Complicated Feelings About Tim Keller by Kirsten Powers (Substack, May 24, 2023)MEA: the midlife wisdom school in Baja, MX and Sante Fe, NM where Debbie and Kirsten met. Mindfulness is a critical part of DBT. There are three core skills which include Wise Mind, "what" skills (what you do when practicing mindfulness - observing, describing, and participating) and "how" skills (how you practice when practicing mindfulness - nonjudgmentally, one-mindfully, effectively). Listen to this week's podcast for explanations and examples on how to practice your "what" skills.
