Shine!LDS AND MEDIUM PODCAST BACKGROUND:I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story.Jesus Christ, our older brother, was a healer. He asked us to love one another. So let´s follow in his footsteps. Michelle Stiles discusses her excellent book "One Idea To Rule Them All: Reverse Engineering American Propaganda" where she describes how we are being "idea bullied" and that the elite have a near all-encompassing grip on information at all levels of society and governance. She goes through some of the key history and players which include Gustave Le Bon, Edward Bernays, and Walter Lippmann and discusses "Operation Sheepskin" and "Operation Spider's Web". There are a number of things we need to do to reverse course. She has previously authored two works: Fast Track Your Recovery from a Total Knee Replacement: How to Eliminate Pain and Pain Medicine the Quickest Way Possible and Color and Laugh Your Way to Knee Replacement Recovery. While the writing of One Idea to Rule Them All by a physical therapist may seem like a metaphysical oddity or quirk of the universe, it is simply the product of an active mind in the quest for truth. The barriers to accurate perception today are plentiful and well laid out in this book, which serves as a concise guide to unveiling the machinations of idea bullying so that they are easily recognizable by those of high school age and beyond; to those of both right and left persuasion-in short, to anyone who senses in their bones that something in the world is off-kilter and can't quite put their finger on the source. *Podcast intro music is from the song "The Queens Jig" by "Musicke & Mirth" from their album "Music for Two Lyra Viols": http://musicke-mirth.de/en/recordings.html (available on iTunes or Amazon)

Send us a textThe average four-year old laughs 300 times a day while the average 40-year old laughs only about four times. It is time to change that! While laughing doesn't erase our problems, it can make us more resilient and better deal with the challenges of life. Laughter increases oxygen intake, relaxes muscles and triggers the release of feel-good neurochemicals such as dopamine and serotonin. Studies have shown that it is “mirthful” laughter - not a nervous or polite chuckle - that boosts heart health, supports lymphatic flow, increases natural killer cells, and is a natural mood elevator. Laughter is contagious and strengthens relationships. Remember - life is all about relationships! Find more ways to laugh by seeking out fun people and looking for comedy in life. I love and have embraced the term “intentionally selfish” since I first heard it. To be intentionally selfish is to be unapologetic for raising yourself up. It is to give yourself what you need to heal, and to let go of all the shame from the experiences you went through. This episode is all about being “intentionally selfish.” It's a gift to yourself, an encouragement to move you further in your healing journey, and a discovery of your goals. My guest, Naketa Ren Thigpen, is breaking down the importance of being intentionally selfish. She's a Balance and Relationship advisor, combining the tenants of licensed clinical social work, psychotherapy, trauma work, metaphysics, and coaching. She's the CEO of personal development company, ThigPro Balance and a podcast host. Also the author of Selfish: Permission to Pause, Live, Love and Laugh Your Way to Joy. “I'm rebellious by nature. It's just in my core. You tell me ‘We have to go down this block,' and I'll follow you down the block the first time. But I'm literally doing it so I can see the shortcuts that I can do the second time.” – Naketa Ren ThigpenTopics discussed in this episode: We need to make the decision for ourselves that we've had enough and need to change and heal. We can either “stay in the box” or “break the box”. We need to choose what we would do. Do not minimize the pain and experiences you went through just because it's not worse than what other people have gone through. “The long game is knowing how to play it, but also finding out your unique shortcuts and ways so you can actually win the game you're trying to play.” – Naketa Ren ThigpenNaketa shares her story, how a childhood experience impacted her, needing to learn to let go of a burden that she wasn't supposed to bear, and how to deal with the shame that went with the experience. She also breaks down G.I.F.T. which stands for gratitude, imagine, forgiveness, and take action. She describes this process of healing as a gift we give to ourselves. Naketa guides us through each letter and how we can apply them. If you want to work with Naketa, consider the Intentionally Selfish Suite. When was the last time we allowed ourselves to imagine life bigger, more beautiful? Bigger doesn't mean more material. Bigger doesn't mean more Instagram followers. Bigger means as big, bold, and beautiful as you need to feel peace. Naketa Ren Thigpen is a relationship and balance advisor. This extraordinary woman teaches how to be intentional, pay attention to which emotions are pulling at you, and how you can release and expand. Her clients all honor the need to rest and recharge with room for relationship bliss just as much as the desire to dominate their respective fields. With 12 years of her business to celebrate, she maintains licenses and credentials ranging from social work and sexologist to psychotherapist. Before that, she worked in the emergency room, specifically in trauma, sexual assault response, and bereavement – the list goes on. To say she wears a lot of hats is an understatement. At her core, she really wanted to understand why humans do human things. She needed clarity on why people are so prone to self-sabotage and pass on that sabotage through hurt to others. Now, the people Naketa wants to work with are those who recognize there's a gap between the good and bliss in their lives. Helping people leave imprints on people that come from wholeness, not generational curses, is her goal, as people can impact others with their trauma just as quickly as their love. She asks her clients where they can be lazy or intentionally selfish in their lives. "I mean being with yourself, looking at yourself in the mirror, the quiet that you're talking about, to feel all the mess, all the ugly, the tears, the awkward smiling that we do," says Naketa. "Drama lives in the body, but so does your joy, and if you're willing to get in touch, whatever awkward way that might be for you, for some it's a religion and some it's just a touch of sitting and hearing and feeling your heartbeat." Naketa says it is a gift to understand when and when not to be agile, when and when not to expand your boundary, and to hold more space for people who have earned it versus people who feel entitled to it. Our parents and the people in our lives gave us their expectations; they poured their fears and projected on us. And at some point, all of that became ours. Their dream became either our bondage or it also became our dream. She says a part of you is entirely unkind to yourself because you're not the version you assumed. Learning to pick out what's ours and what is no longer serving you is powerful. Get rid of expired expectations. Divorce yourself from that. You will walk the streets of Carmel, Indiana, a quiet, small town, visit its shops, and meet its neighborly people. Along the way, you will learn what it was like growing up in a large family in a small town during the 1950s and 1960s. Whimsical and, at times, knee-slapping tales guide you through childhood, teen years, early adulthood, and beyond. You get a peek at family dynamics and the struggles of an insecure boy's first encounters with romance. You also learn what it was like to be a journalist, a government economist, a parent, and a golf fanatic. The stories are warm, touching, and always funny. The people you meet, mostly based on the author's siblings, are friendly and fun-loving. The situations, based on real events and family lore, will keep you laughing. I love and have embraced the term “intentionally selfish” since I first heard it. To be intentionally selfish is to be unapologetic for raising yourself up, to give yourself what you need to heal, and to let go of all the shame from the experiences you went through. This episode is all about being “intentionally selfish.” It's a gift to yourself, an encouragement to move you further in your healing journey, and a discovery of your goals.
