Brandon Zylstra knows how tough it is to achieve your dream when there are obstacles in the way. Zylstra went to a Division III college, paid his way through school, went to the Canadian Football League and is now entering his fourth year in the NFL as a wide receiver and special teams player — the third with the Panthers. But he’s the first to admit that he doesn’t know what it’s like to experience racism. That’s part of the reason he had conversations with his friends and teammates who were Black. And it’s why he’s establishing a scholarship to help Black students who aspire to go to college and have faced adversity. “I didn’t know racism was as prevalent as it actually is until social media became more popular and people started sharing videos and documenting everything,” Zylstra said. Zylstra, who is from Spicer, Minnesota — less than two hours from Minneapolis — said he was moved to help after seeing the video of George Floyd’s murder and the reaction across the country. “It just hit close to home,” he said, adding that he started having conversations with his friends. Through those conversations, he learned more about their stories and how they experienced racism. He wanted to help. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This episode of No Brains No Headache Podcast is brought to you by Kong Beer Bong, Make The Good Times Better. Order yours today [ https://kongbeerbong.com?aff=200 ] Episode 44 starts with an interview with Carolina Panthers Wide Receiver, Brandon Zylstra (1:59-34:19). Brandon is a native of Minnesota and started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings so we were both thrilled to have him on the show! We talked about his journey to the pros including the Canadian Football League and some of the different rules they play with. We then get into his time with the Vikings, the professionalism that comes with the job and how he gels with the personnel of the Carolina Panthers. Finish with how enjoyable lake life is and even gave him some touchdown celebration suggestions. Thank you to Brandon and Priority Sports for everything and good luck in the 2021 season. After the interview it's time for Clearys Comments (34:24-57:00) where we banter about random things. Matt takes a moment to comment on his performance in episode 43 then tells a juicy story that includes hot mics and announcers. This prompts Jordan to discuss the movie 'Our Idiot Brother' and the politically volatile language used in the film. Idiocracy remained the theme as there is a struggle to explain a story involving a wild bear and cocaine as well as oversized t-shirts and rip away pants. Read the room. What would you do if you were a cop and how do cold showers equate to success? We don't know either. Finish with the Olympics of Irish Things (57:02-69:05) and we will warn you, it is open for interpretation. It is a fact that Dropkick Murphy's is blaring at every Irish Pub and Matt has a joke for everyone. There are some controversial picks and a Gold medal for the ages. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Good morning Horners! We have the Vikings versus Seahawks game reaction and recap on this episode of “GMG In The Raw.” You can watch and listen to how Ted Glover, Drew Bunting, and Dave Stefano react immediately following the game. Dave even took copious notes blowing Drew's mind away in the process. Kirk Cousins was showing some mobility, a good thing. We like that! We wanted to see a better running game, better run defense and see fewer wide receivers being open against that defense. These things were still there and we wondered could it be because the Minnesota Vikings were running their base, or bland defense, stuck in a simple zone scheme, could it be because Linval Joseph and Shamar Stephen weren’t playing, or just that it's the preseason and head coach Mike Zimmer doesn't want to show anything? Drew noted that when the second team defense comes in, they show more fire and that the level of excitement goes up in the stadium. “Their energy jumps.” Ifeadi Odenigbo did an outstanding job all night. Cameron Smith blitzed but whiffed on the sack. The scariest point of the evening came on the offense when Alexander Mattison had his leg bent in a very awkward position. All of us thought with Vikings fan dread, that he was going to be injured on that play, but he got back up and continue to play just fine. We've noted how he seems to get stronger as the game goes on. Oh, and what a night Boone had! We felt he secured the RB3 spot with that performance, and Zimmer liked his special teams play even more. Kyle Sloter had a very good game. We discussed why he should relieve Kirk Cousins as the QB2 in this week's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Both Dave and Drew were adamant that he earned that look, but Ted wasn't as convinced. He still thinks that Sean Mannion did nothing to lose his QB2 status. Yes, he threw the pick 6, but he drove down the field and scored on the next series. We are all to use to the team laying down after something as adverse as of miss-ran route that results in a pick and causing a huge swing in the scoring. After seeing the game Dave doesn’t think Sloter’s status has to do with the games. It has to do with practices and what support he brings to the rest of the QBs in the support role. He may be too inexperienced to see and help, at least in Zimmer’s mind. You'll have to listen to catch the rest of the GMG impressions on players like Kaare Vedvik, Dan Bailey, Matt Wile, Brandon Zylstra, and Dru Samia. Lastly, the guys think Dave should die his beard purple for week one. Should he? Like, subscribe, and rate us on your favorite podcast aggregator. Then shout SKOL! Viking Standouts - Including Mike Boone with 100 all-purpose yards, Jayron Kearse with several splash plays, Kyle Sloter looking legit, Brandon Zylstra having a bounce back game, Treadwell being showcased (for a trade) and Irv Smith checking the boxes on a solid outing. Kaare attempts all kicks, Holton Hill is ejected, Dalvin still held back. Elflein has a poor outing, while the offense seemed to move the ball decently. Defensive miscues need to be fixed, but still holding well against powerful Seahawks offense. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

While there may be no true off-season in the NFL, there sure is in the land of Roughing The Podcast. Di and Ted return from the off-season hiatus, and jump dive stumble right in to a new season of RTP. And we are back to a weekly show from now until the end of the season. We kick off the show by discussing the offensive line, and how the death of Tony Sparano and the subsequent coaching changes could affect the team moving forward. From there, it’s the offensive line in general, and whether or not it’s time to hit the panice button with injuries. From there, we move to the pitched WR3 battle that looks like it’s becoming Laquon Treadwell’s to lose, and what expectations are for him moving forward. From there, we take listener questions, as a lot of them are training camp oriented. We discuss Richie Incognito, some more o-line talk, a quick take on Urban Meyer and the OSU situation, CB depth chart prediction, some Brandon Zylstra hot takes, and whether or not Kentrell Brothers and Cayleb Jones are still with the team after their suspensions are over. Finally, we wrap it up with a question about which current Vikings player could make the Hall of Fame (don’t laugh at Ted’s answer), and our two most depressing off-season sports headlines.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Brandon Zylstra took some time from offseason workouts to talk to the Eskimo Podcast about the adjustment to the NFL, the CFL, and what he needs to do to crack the Vikings roster.

Welcome to one of the most awesome conversations I’ve had around my dinner table, ever. With newly signed MINNESOTA VIKINGS receiver Brandon Zylstra and his college football coach Aaron Willits. We talked about a ton of stuff including how Brandon worked his way up through the ranks, fighting against circumstances that would discourage most people from even starting. One thing you’ll learn about Brandon from our conversation is his mindset. Obstacles don’t deter him, they motivate him. Setbacks don’t discourage him, they teach him. And opportunity doesn’t scare him, it excites him. Zylstra is the modern day embodiment of Dale Carnegie in that he does not criticize, condemn or complain. It’s like fighting from the bottom brings him vigor and vitality and he is *grateful* for the struggle. Every day is a new chance to prove himself. Find him on Instagram: @brandonzylstra
