The Bucs Dugout Podcast is back. David and I discuss Larry Broadway and Kyle stark; the Jeff Karstens and Charlie Morton decisions; the signings of Russell Martin and Jason Grilli; whether the Pirates should trade Joel Hanrahan; and much more.
In the latest edition of the Bucs Dugout Podcast, David and I review our preseason projections, which, as it turns out, were a little too pessimistic. We discuss the futures of Clint Barmes, Joel Hanrahan and Jason Grilli, wonder about the impact of Andrew McCutchen's August swoon on the Pirates' fortunes, and ask how the Pirates ought to evaluate Clint Hurdle after what turned out to be a rough season for him.
David, Wilbur Miller and I talk about the futures of Neal Huntington and Greg Smith, and we review the seasons the Pirates' top minor-leaguers have had. Thanks to Wilbur for joining us, thanks to David and Wilbur for working through a ton of technical issues with me, and thanks to me for spending like three hours editing this stupid thing. You are welcome.
David and I discuss the way we think about the remainder of the season. We also discuss the Astros series, the upcoming Cubs series, what's going on with the Pirates' injuries, and a few topics from around baseball.
David and I are in fine ranting form as we discuss the release of Erik Bedard, the promotion of Chase d'Arnaud and Major League Baseball's TV deal with ESPN. We also examine the Pirates' recent struggles (taking on the Pirates' decisions to favor veterans over youngsters) and ask how much the Bucs' upcoming opponents matter.
David and I discuss the Padres series; the Pirates' awful bullpen and roster management; the departure of Juan Cruz; the reasons for the Pirates' recent slide; and Melky Cabrera, Andrew McCutchen and the batting title.
David and I discuss the Pirates' draining 19-inning win, roster moves the Pirates might make in its aftermath, and the Pirates' chances of holding off the Cardinals and either the Dodgers or Giants down the stretch as they continue to battle for a playoff spot.
David and I discuss A.J. Burnett's one-hitter, as well as the Pirates' trades for Travis Snider, Gaby Sanchez and Chad Qualls and the impact of those moves on the Pirates' roster. After the flip, I talk about Snider with Tom Dakers of Bluebird Banter, who isn't a fan of the deal from the Blue Jays' perspective.
David and I discuss James McDonald's struggles, Kevin Correia's trade request, the debuts of Wandy Rodriguez and Starling Marte, the possibility of dealing Joel Hanrahan, what we expect the Pirates to do at the trading deadline, and whether the Bucs are well-positioned for a playoff run.
Finally, an actual trade to discuss! David and I discuss the Wandy Rodriguez trade -- what the Pirates are getting, what they gave up (in Robbie Grossman, Rudy Owens and Colton Cain), and what the addition of Rodriguez means for their rotation beyond 2012. We also discuss the possibility of adding an outfielder, specifically focusing on Shane Victorino and Alfonso Soriano. We talk about the ongoing Jose Tabata saga and briefly reexamine Neal Huntington's job performance.
In this All-Star break edition, David and I give out mid-year grades to the Pirates' players.
David and I discuss the Pirates' recent play against the Astros, their status in the NL Central, Joel Hanrahan's recent pitching, the Pirates' outfield situation, and what the team might do at the trading deadline.
David and I talk Cardinals with Dan Moore of Viva El Birdos and SB Nation St. Louis. Also, we discuss last night's game, the Pirates' approach to the trade deadline, and recent roster moves.
David and I discuss the Pirates' recent roster moves, Brad Lincoln and Kevin Correia, the upcoming series against the Phillies, the Kevin Youkilis trade and more.
David and I discuss Pedro Alvarez and upcoming changes to the pitching staff. After the flip, I talk to Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com and HardballTalk about the upcoming series against the Twins.
It's just me and David in the latest edition of the Bucs Dugout Podcast. We discuss Charlie Morton's injury, the 2013 rotation, Jameson Taillon's struggles, and the rumors that the Pirates are interested in Chase Headley.
David, WTM and I talk about the first two days of the Pirates' draft. We started recording this at about 5:00 p.m., in about the ninth round. We discuss all the picks made up to that point, and also briefly discuss Stetson Allie and Alex Presley.
In this edition of the podcast, David and I discuss the upcoming MLB Draft with Baseball America's Jim Callis in the first half, and then Bucs Dugout's Vlad in the second. Topics: Will Albert Almora, Mike Zunino or another top talent fall to the Bucs at No. 8? Is Lucas Giolito worth taking? Why is everybody sleeping on Marcus Stroman? Are the Bucs still considering Deven Marrero? And might they end up with Max Fried when all is said and done?
In this edition of the podcast, David and I talk to Kyle Lobner of Brew Crew Ball (@BrewCrewBall) about the Brewers' struggles this season. We also discuss the recent performances of Charlie Morton, Jose Tabata, Neil Walker and (on a more positive note) James McDonald. We also address the promotion of Jordy Mercer.
Featuring: Vlad from Bucs Dugout, Tim Williams from Pirates Prospects, Cocktailsfor2, & Producer Adam PeindlCLICK HERE TO LISTEN
We talk about the Mets with Eno Sarris of Amazin' Avenue, Fangraphs, and Rotoworld and catch up on the careers of Jason Bay, Ronny Cedeno and Ike Davis in the process. David and I also discuss potential moves the Bucs could make to address their offense.
In this episode: an interview with Sam Dingman of Baltimorons about the beauty and pain of following a losing baseball team. (I also recently did an interview for Sam's podcast, and as I mention, his podcast is very funny, and I recommend you check it out.) Also, David and I discuss the demotion of Alex Presley, the return of Evan Meek and other recent events surrounding the Pirates.
This week features David and I chatting with Wilbur Miller in an extra-long episode about the Pirates' minor leagues, beginning with the Bucs' 40-man roster, then heading to West Virginia and moving up through the system from there.
A smorgasbord this time: Updates on Jeff Karstens and Chris Leroux; a look ahead at Adam LaRoche, the Bryce Harper / Cole Hamels story, and the Washington Nationals in general; Charlie Morton's mechanics; the Pirates' lack of walks; and Jose Tabata and Pirates basestealing.
Episode No. 10 of the Bucs Dugout Podcast features an interview with Baseball Nation's Rob Neyer about the current state of the Pirates and about goings-on around baseball. David and I also discuss last night's game, the demotion of Evan Meek, and the state of the Pirates' farm system.
