Feels like a Father's Day episode what with weaponry gone awry, novelty shirts made from petroleum products, and Caddyshack references. PCA hits them high and low, and Woody hits them where they don't usually go. Cutch passes Clemente, Manny sneaks up on 2000, and we've got more bfs on the IL than the bench. The Contreras brothers (Contrarians?) do something rare. Kiké speaks out even though the LAD do not, and we note how women's leagues do not hesitate to take a stand. And we crosstrain by buying Immigrant City FC shirts. MLB players speak out about how sports betting has changed fan interactions for the worse. Those nice BOS newlyweds give the Pope a CWS cap and now you know what the regulation Pope headgear is called and why there's a sunroof in the Popemobile. The Pirates fall 2-1 to the Cubs and the offense once again looks lost. DiNardo and Doug break it all down — from the lineup's lifeless approach to how it feels like watching the same bad movie over and over. Is there any end in sight to the Pirates' offensive struggles? We highlight the few bright spots, including another impressive start for Michael Burrows, and try to make sense of a team stuck in neutral. Tune in as we relive this familiar script… again. Andrew McCutchen turns back the clock with another clutch homer as the Pirates take down the Marlins — but is anyone going to help Mitch Keller win a game? We break down the latest bullpen shuffle with Carmen Mlodzinski returning and Kyle Nicolas optioned, while questioning why the "starter-only" plan for Mlodzinski already feels like a lie. Plus, Don Kelly's presence is being felt, we preview some college bats to watch in the College World Series that the Pirates could draft, and look ahead to the upcoming series against the Cubs. The NS9 Postgame Show Powered By Primanti Bros. Afternoons with Ryan and Cody saw a Pirates 5-2 victory to take the series over the Marlins. They discuss Andrew McCutchen's 3-run bomb that not only was the difference in the game, but also was Cutch's 241st home run in a Pirates uniform passing Roberto Clemente on the franchise's all-time HR list. Ryan and Cody also break down Bailey Falter's performance and Donnie Ball working his magic again with the bullpen management and manufacturing a run early in the game. Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg spoke his mind about the bad call in San Diego the other night in the Henry Davis at bat, which was the Pirates last real shot to win the game. Brownie said it's a forgone conclusion that the technology will be changed by Opening Day 2026. Greg talked about the leadership in the clubhouse and why Andrew McCutchen speaking up the other night really meant something. Chris asked Greg about Cutch tying Roberto Clemente for third all-time on the Pirates HR list and what #22 means to the city. Greg thinks McCutchen is Hall of Fame worthy in terms of consideration and says he is continuing to build a strong case. What type of crowd is expected tonight with Paul Skenes on the mound?

Andrew McCutchen ties Roberto Clemente on the all-time Pirates hits list—but the celebration doesn't last long as the bullpen coughs up a late lead in a frustrating 6-4 loss to the Padres. We break down the highs (Cutch's milestone, solid starts from Cruz and Heaney) and the lows (Rainey's implosion, more questionable managing), plus how this bullpen could actually be better today. Watch the full breakdown and let us know what you would've done differently in the 8th inning.
The Pirates lost 2 of 3 in San Diego this weekend. But is this team looking better? It feels as if they are playing more entertaining baseball under Don Kelly. Will it be good enough to save the job of Ben Cherington? That wouldn't really be a good thing. The Pirates are 10-12 under Kelly, but it was brutally bad before he took over. If the Buccos do play .500 baseball under Kelly, is that a good thing? What do fans want to see out of the Buccos the rest of the way? What is best for their future? Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan joked about the time he was offered an overnight shift in the early days of The Fan. We then got into the Pirates under Don Kelly and how the vibe is up, at least a little bit, with the guys in that clubhouse. Dan said he's not sure if you can simply look at what the MLB club is doing before you decide about your GM. Andrew McCutchen made some history over the weekend and Dan called him the best Pirates player of our generation. He said Cutch is a fringe HOF player, but he isn't sure he'd get quite enough to get in. Dan labeled McCutchen as the most important Pirate of nearly the last 50 years.
A claim made earlier by Dan Zangrilli that Andrew McCutchen was the ‘best Pirates player of the generation.' Is it something we agree with? We think it really depends on where you split the lines of a generation. Barry Bonds would have a pretty healthy claim. Will Andrew McCutchen get his number retired by the Pirates? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff witnessed Scottie Scheffler win the Memorial Tournament in Ohio this weekend – his third victory in the month. Is anybody close to his level right now? Chris asked Jeff if this is the most dominant run we've seen since Tiger Woods. Jeff isn't sure if he will pick Scheffler to win the US Open due to some other talented names in the field. Who would be Scheffler's biggest threat later this month?

Pirates legend Jim Leyland joined the show. Jim said it is always a sad day when a manager gets let go and feels for Derek Shelton being the man out of a job. That being said, he's thrilled for Don Kelly, one of his pupils, getting a big opportunity. Jim's advice to Kelly was to be himself and let the players do their jobs too. Jim hopes that Don can ease some tension in the clubhouse and said you always have to earn it at this level. Jim said you have to do everything you can for the players and if they don't perform, it's time to take them to task. Jim wants to see the Pirates get a little bit creative offensively to cause a spark. The guys asked Jim about consistency in the lineup and how it can impact the usual players. Jim talked about Don's playing experience and how playing every single position will help him with the team. Jim said you can plan for a lot of things in a game, but you can't script it. Jim doesn't believe in the analytics department much and said a lot of his success came more from instinct, watching the game, and working with is assistant coaches. Jim expressed the importance of not overloading the players with too much information and just letting them play the game. Other advice from Jim to Don was to hire an experienced bench coach. The Jim Leyland chat got us talking about cigs. We also heard the words of Andrew McCutchen following the firing of Derek Shelton. Donny Football Debrief – Poni has Steelers fans up in arms yet again about a young QB.

The Pirates were just swept again… and now even Andrew McCutchen is acknowledging the fans' frustration. In this episode of Bucco Brew, we break down Kevin Gorman's column and Cutch's honest comments on the “Sell the Team” chants — and what it says about the state of the franchise. We then dive into the growing tension between Pirates fans and Bob Nutting, and ask the hard questions:
The Pirates handled business in a 6–1 win over the Nationals, powered by a dominant 7-inning outing from Bailey Falter and a game-breaking grand slam from Oneil Cruz. Henry Davis chipped in with his first homer of the year, and the offense finally woke up after a slow start. Things got heated in the 7th when Jorge López was ejected for throwing up and in on Andrew McCutchen — just months after giving up homers to both Cutch and Reynolds. -The guys discuss the Pirates' lineup and it's a very interesting one! Ke'Bryan Hayes is the leadoff hitter, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa is hitting 9th. Maybe the biggest thing is that Andrew McCutchen is in right field, likely due to Bryan Reynolds remaining the DH while he nurses an arm issue that's held him from throwing the ball. Do you think there'll be a mix of cheers and boos for when Derek Shelton is introduced during the lineups today? -Austin Bechtold joins Joe and Donny! Will Andrew McCutchen or Paul Skenes receive the louder recognition? Are Skenes and Livvy Dunne the next Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift?
Noah Hiles of the Post-Gazette posted a video of Andrew McCutchen taking ground balls at first base. Dan suggested this last year but he doesn't think they will throw McCutchen into this unless he is VERY comfortable. David Bednar has to figure out his splitter and this is not a "quick fix."
Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Andrew McCutchen is trying a new position? David Bednar has to figure out his splitter and this is not a "quick fix." Dan thinks the Pirates will re-tool a lot of Bednar's repertoire. Dan would use Dennis Santana or Ryan Borucki in the closer role, at the moment. IKF has been one of the Pirates best hitters.
