"It could pose real dangers for our country as well.""Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit." he said, appearing to refer to Meta's ending its fact-checking program.without safeguards, AI could "spawn new threats to our rights, our way of life, to our privacy, how we work and how we protect our nation."161 years ago, a New Zealand sheep farmer predicted AI doomOn June 13, 1863, a letter titled "Darwin among the Machines" written by Samuel Butler (under the pseudonym Cellarius) published in The Press newspaper of Christchurch warned about the potential dangers of mechanical evolution and called for the destruction of machines, foreshadowing the development of what we now call artificial intelligence—and the backlash against it from people who fear it may threaten humanity with extinction. It presented what may be the first published argument for stopping technological progress to prevent machines from dominating humanity. The letter drew direct parallels between Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and the rapid development of machinery, suggesting that machines could evolve consciousness and eventually supplant humans as Earth's dominant species."We are ourselves creating our own successors." he wrote. "We are daily adding to the beauty and delicacy of their physical organisation; we are daily giving them greater power and supplying by all sorts of ingenious contrivances that self-regulating, self-acting power which will be to them what intellect has been to the human race. In the course of ages we shall find ourselves the inferior race."In the letter, he also portrayed humans becoming subservient to machines, but first serving as caretakers who would maintain and help reproduce mechanical life—a relationship Butler compared to that between humans and their domestic animals, before it later inverts and machines take over.Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon says AI can write 95% of an IPO prospectusThe initial registration prospectus for an IPO, called S1, usually took a six-person team two weeks to complete. However, now 95 per cent of the work can be completed by AI in minutes, he said. Goldman Sachs chief David Solomon questions start-ups' need to listHe also asked private companies to take ‘great caution' before deciding to go public, adding that the depth of capital in private markets has made the need to go public redundant for many. On Thursday August 18th, 2016 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will review new issues of old Hermetic Magick books. Starting with Zoroaster's Telescope (1796-2013) and on to Urania's Mirror (1822-2004) and finally The Harmonia Macrocosmica of Cellarius (1660 - 2013). The first item on our list is more of a board-game than a book; a very elaborate and frankly confusing French divinatory system that uses hexagonal "tiles" with magical and astrological data drawn from an urn or box and applied to a board called a mirror. which has hexagonal compartments. Divination follows from the numbers in the mirror's cells and the pattern various tiles make on the mirror. Urania's Mirror is a small book describing the astrological constellations and their mythology accompanied by a set of thirty-two cards on which the mythical figures of the zodiac are depicted in very romantic style. This style is influenced by our last selection: The Harmonia Macrocosmica of Andreus Cellarius, a magnificently illustrated atlas of the heavens. So if you'd like to explore some recent revivals of ancient wisdom tune in and we'll have a look.

In the last episode, we left a doomed Sarah, David and Dr. Cellarius as they plunged helplessly into the sun. But their inevitable deaths will not be in vain. We'll still have some time on this episode to learn about the structure of our main star before they reach the core and get burned to crispy cinders. This is part two of our guest-written episode by William J. Meyer. And you can check out William's own work at FireOnTheMound.com and StrangeLovePodcast.com And a big thanks to guest cast member Tanja Milojevic for her excellent performance as Dr. Cellarius. You can find Tanja's own work at http://www.lightningbolt.podbean.com/ (LightningBolt Theater of the Mind). This also brings down the curtain on season one of Hostile Worlds. However, as we gear up to plan season two, we'd love to get your feedback, opinions, and suggestions. You can do that by filling out this very brief survey – we really would appreciate your input Things to Learn What's so interesting about the sun's corona? How deep are the layers of the sun, and how do they compare to distances on earth? Where does the sun's light actually come from? How many years does it take for the sun's energy to pass through the radiation zone? What is the Black Dwarf phase, and has it ever happened before? What's in the cold storage container?

"We propose that blockchain technologies can become a new framework not only for the production (distribution and financing) of stories but also their creation.” Kelso covered the humongous ComicCon conference a few weeks back. In between meeting celebrities from top comic-book movies like AquaMan, he had the chance to interview a ConsenSys startup, Cellarius. Dear community, with pleasure we announce a delicious new addition to our cocktail menu: Isabeau Fort mixed an exclusive Daiquiri for Schirmchendrink! She is one of the founders behind the Cloudcokoouland collective, member at Cellarius as well as one half of the Berlin-based DJ duo Brothers. Winning her spurs in the university town of Marburg, Isy today is a welcome guest in venues all over Germany. Unsure if it’s the fact that Isi is just back from a stay in Thailand or the South American origins of the Daiquiri cocktail – but these warm and uplifting beats definitely drive off the the cold March winds over here... we say thank you and joyfully have another sip!
