Damien Linnane was serving a prison sentence when he took up art as mental health therapy, going on to edit the magazines for prisoners Paper Chained and working on a PhD. Damien is the curator of a new art exhibition at Boom Gate Gallery at Sydney's Long Bay gaol, showing art from people incarcerated around the world.My Thing...is using art to talk about gambling harm. All his life, Nelson Nghe has seen up close the harm caused by gambling on poker machines, or 'tiger machine' in Chinese language. It's cost members of his family and his wider community a lot -- even homes. Nelson explores this in his powerful installation artwork I Bet You, on display at The Institute for Australian and Chinese Arts and Culture (IAC).Triple J's Stacy Gougoulis visits an exhibition of the late Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Barkindji artist Josh Muir, who died at age 33 in 2022. In his neon street art-style prints and projections, Muir spoke a visual language that shone bright and bold. Stacy speaks with Josh's partner Shanaya Sheriden and Koorie Heritage Trust curator Tom Mosby.

Today, Wade is speaking with David Wei of Wudang West Cultural Heritage Center, a non-profit wellness ministry based in Oakland, California. David Wei has a unique story. He started off as your average kid in the Bay Area but become so inspired by a certain western movie (can you guess?) that he went to the Wudang Mountains in China to study martial arts. After 20 years of studying, he returned to the Bay Area and was tasked by his master to start a Chinese cultural center — which is now the Wudang West Cultural Heritage Center. The center provides education in subjects like Chinese medicine, calligraphy, and of course: martial arts. In this episode, David talks about the elements of Wudang West beyond the martial arts, how the cultural center has morphed and changed over the years David has been running it, how he was originally introduced to the martial arts and how sees it progressing in the future, and how training has impacted his life (especially in regard to his time spent in Wudang, China). In 2011, the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture (AICCC) conducted a survey of international views toward Chinese cinema. The AICCC concluded that foreign audiences simply don't understand Chinese films and culture. To discuss this, AICCC selected five films that provided popular in China. At USC five AICCC scholars will discuss these films and other issues with American specialists. About AICCC Jointly established by Beijing Normal University and International Data Group (IDG) , the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture aims to introduce and disseminate Chinese culture worldwide more effectively and contribute to a harmonious world culture through solid, in-depth research and art works with Chinese characteristics by effectively integrating resources from Beijing Normal University, IDG, relevant government departments, enterprises, non-profit organizations and communities. Tongdao Zhang is a professor at School of Arts and Media, Beijing Normal University.
