Ever wonder why certain songs follow you from ballparks to bar bands to late-night TV finales? We take a playful but pointed run at the “most overplayed song” ever with a live listener bracket that pits Free Bird, Don't Stop Believin', Sweet Caroline, Brown Eyed Girl, and more in a ruthless showdown. Along the way, we unpack what repetition really means, how stadium anthems, wedding playlists, and radio gold become rituals that comfort some of us and exhaust the rest. You'll leave with your hill to die on and a few hot takes from fellow fans to test your case. Before the sparks fly, we open with a rapid-fire look at Ella Langley, state champion dancer, voice-shifting surgery, a pellet gun for pests, bangs born from a bad haircut, and a one-pickle pre-show ritual that weirdly works. That personal color tees up a high-energy country news sweep: Lainey Wilson teams with Kevin Costner on The Grey House soundtrack beside titans like Willie Nelson and Shania Twain; Riley Green stretches into acting with a Yellowstone-adjacent series; Rascal Flatts hit RodeoHouston; Meghan Moroney and Ella Langley notch a chart milestone for women in country; Thomas Rhett welcomes baby number five; Luke Combs and Dierks Bentley map new tours; and LeAnn Rimes and Rodney Crowell drop fresh tracks. We also spotlight the Recording Academy's new Best Traditional Country Album category debuting in 2026—an overdue nod to classic songwriting and instrumentation. We round things out with a tight chart countdown spanning radio favorites and indie gems, a March 2016 flashback that tracks how we got here, and a lively mailbag: production vs. songwriting first impressions, dream guests (from Rick Beato to Mutt Lange and Kelly Clarkson), and the gear that changed everything as studios moved from tape to Pro Tools. It's a full-spectrum listen for country fans, music nerds, and anyone who has ever yelled “Free Bird!” at the wrong time.Episode LinksBob Bullock: https://jayfranze.com/episode28/Dave Jackson: https://jayfranze.com/episode53/Dalila Mya: https://jayfranze.com/episode102/Mark Badolato: https://jayfranze.com/episode140/Send a text Support the showLinks Jay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/ JFS Country Countdown: https://jayfranze.com/countdown/ Contact Contact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/ Socials Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranze TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jayfranze X: https://x.com/jayfranze YouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranze Services Services: https://jayfranze.com/services/ Books Books: https://jayfranze.com/books/ Merchandise Merchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/ Support Support: https://jayfranze.com/support/ Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/

Born in Israel and classically trained from an early age, Zur initially built his career in film and television before being persuaded to score his first game... and never looked back. Over the decades that followed, he became the defining voice behind some of the most beloved franchises in gaming, crafting music that consistently prioritizes emotional honesty over spectacle. We explore the remarkable range Zur brings to every project, from intimate character themes and sweeping fantasy epics to militaristic tension and sci-fi wonder. A three-time award winner, a Recording Academy inductee, and a composer whose main theme for a major 2023 release reportedly went through twenty-nine versions before it was right, Zur is an artist who has never stopped pushing. This episode is a proper tribute to a man whose fingerprints are all over the medium we love. In this episode, writer-producer Hilliard Guess and guest co-host actor-writer-prod-dir Dalila Ali Rajah sit down for an educational conversation (we do talk a bit of politics in this one - FYI), with actor/writer/coach and 2026 NAACP Image Award nominee ADAM DAVENPORT, recognized in the Outstanding Literary Work – Journalism category for his essay examining Audra McDonald's 2025 Tony Awards performance of “Rose's Turn.” The piece reframes the performance as a landmark cultural moment - serving as an act of protest, reclamation, and artistic defiance within the lineage of Black women reshaping American performance. The nomination is a full-circle moment for Davenport, as the NAACP was the first organization to recognize his writing when he was in high school. He can speak to the nomination as well as his broader career as a multidisciplinary artist working across acting, writing, directing, producing, casting, and education. A Chicago native and Yale graduate, Davenport is a member of SAG-AFTRA, BAFTA, the European Film Academy, and the Recording Academy. His screen work includes Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix), for which he received a Satellite Award for Best Ensemble alongside multiple critics' group honors. In 2020, he founded The International Acting Studio (TIAS), where he coaches actors working at the highest international level. Two performers he coached are current 2026 Czech Lion Award nominees, and his clients have appeared in projects including The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, The Crown, and numerous network and cable series.Read the Essay here:https://www.bronzecommhub.com/blog/audra-mcdonald-took-the-stage-and-rewrote-the-rules

Marking his first Grammys performance since 2020, Tyler delivered a standout set blending tracks from CHROMAKOPIA (2024) and DON'T TAP THE GLASS (2025): “Thought I Was Dead,” “Like Him,” and “Sugar On My Tongue.”The performance opened with “Thought I Was Dead” in a bright green exaggerated soldier uniform, featuring confrontational delivery, reworked lyrics, and militaristic staging as Tyler moved through the audience. A transitional gas station set piece included a full vehicle prop, dancers, faux gasoline effects, and a surprise cameo by Regina King as a service-station worker bridging the segments. The closing “Sugar On My Tongue” brought an all-red wardrobe shift, exuberant and suggestive choreography atop a red Ferrari, culminating in simulated explosion effects and Tyler's dramatic post-blast sprawl.Widely praised as energetic, artistic, and unforgettable—often ranked #1 performance of the night—this medley synthesized his back-to-back album eras through cinematic stagecraft, narrative symbolism, costumes, and practical effects. Tyler earned six nominations, including Album of the Year for CHROMAKOPIA, and won the inaugural Best Album Cover Grammy.Official uploads include Tyler's channel edit (“Thought I Was Dead / Sugar On My Tongue (Live at the 2026 GRAMMYs)”) and the full medley on Recording Academy channels, racking up massive views. Show NotesAt NAMM 2026, Sean Martin sits down with Chuck Tennin, the President and CEO of Big Fish Music and Big Fish Music Publishing Group, for a candid conversation about the role of AI in the music industry and why the human element remains irreplaceable. Known as "The Big Fish" and "The Alligator," Chuck has spent more than five decades working as an engineer, record producer, music publisher, and consultant, and he pulls no punches when it comes to the limits of technology in creative work.Chuck draws a sharp line between AI as a tool and AI as a replacement for human creativity. He points to organizations like ASCAP, BMI, and the Recording Academy as allies in the fight to protect the creative process, arguing that AI cannot replicate the feel, the instinct, and the emotional investment that go into producing a record. For Chuck, the difference between producing music and producing a record is everything: a record has to connect with an audience on a level that no algorithm can manufacture. The conversation takes listeners through Chuck's journey from two-track analog recording to the digital era of Pro Tools, exploring how each technological leap brought efficiency but never fully captured the warmth and authenticity of tape. He reflects on the critical distinction between an MP3 and a WAV file, between convenience and quality, and between what sounds good enough and what sounds like a record.Chuck also shares hard-earned wisdom about the business side of music: the perseverance required, the reality that 90% of aspiring artists fail, and the belief in oneself that separates survivors from those who walk away. Drawing on stories from legendary artists he has worked with over the decades, he reminds listeners that every big name started in the same place and climbed out of the same struggle. This is a conversation about what technology can assist with and what it can never touch: the soul of music and the humans who create it.HostSean Martin, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine, Studio C60, and Host of Redefining CyberSecurity Podcast & Music Evolves Podcast | Website: https://www.seanmartin.com/GuestChuck Tennin, President and CEO of Big Fish Music and Big Fish Music Publishing Group | On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chuck-tennin-3468b6105/ResourcesThe NAMM Show 2026 is taking place from January 20-24, 2026 | Anaheim Convention Center, Southern California — Follow our coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/the-namm-show-2026-namm-music-conference-music-technology-event-coverage-anaheim-californiaMusic Evolves: Sonic Frontiers Newsletter | https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/7290890771828719616/Keywordschuck tennin, big fish music, sean martin, AI in music, analog vs digital recording, record producer, music publishing, Pro Tools, ASCAP, BMI, Recording Academy, NAMM 2026, music industry, human creativity, songwriting, music, creativity, art, artist, musician, music evolves, music podcast, music and technology podcastMore From Sean MartinMore from Music Evolves: https://www.seanmartin.com/music-evolves-podcastMusic Evolves on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnYu0psdcllTRJ5du7hFDXjiugu-uNPtWMusic Evolves: Sonic Frontiers Newsletter | https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/7290890771828719616/On Location with Sean and Marco: https://www.itspmagazine.com/on-locationITSPmagazine YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@itspmagazineBe sure to share and subscribe! Iovine is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the modern music industry. Growing up in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Iovine was raised in an Italian working-class family.  He began working as a recording engineer in the early 1970s, and went on to engineer landmark albums including Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run and John Lennon's Rock 'n' Roll and Walls and Bridges, before transitioning into production with Patti Smith's Easter, Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedoes, Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna, and U2's Rattle and Hum. In 1990, Iovine co-founded Interscope Records with Ted Field. Under his leadership, the label became one of the most dominant forces in popular music, launching or elevating the careers of Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. He rose to become chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. In 2006, he and Dr. Dre co-founded Beats by Dre, which Apple acquired in 2014 for $3 billion — the largest acquisition in Apple's history at the time. Iovine subsequently helped launch Apple Music in 2015 before departing Apple in 2018. His accomplishments include being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, being honored by the Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing during Grammy Week 2012, co-founding the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy in 2013 with a $70 million donation alongside Dr. Dre, launching the Iovine and Young Center high school program in Los Angeles in 2022 with additional locations in Atlanta and Inglewood, and donating to the city of Compton during the COVID-19 pandemic to fund medical supplies, testing, and meals for residents. https://davidsenra.com/episode/jimmy-iovine Made possible by Ramp: https://ramp.com Eight Sleep: https://eightsleep.com/senra Function: https://functionhealth.com/senra Chapters (00:00:00) Introduction: The Corny World of Fame (00:00:54) The Impact of Social Media on Fame (00:01:27) Chasing Greatness: Personal Reflections (00:02:10) Technological Shifts in the Music Industry (00:03:24) The Streaming Service Dilemma (00:05:34) The Artist's Perspective on Streaming (00:06:39) Early Career and Influences (00:09:40) The Importance of Humility (00:11:19) Working with the Best: A Career Retrospective (00:13:07) The Role of Brutal Honesty (00:15:00) Navigating the Music Industry (00:33:50) The Birth of Beats by Dre (00:46:14) The Music Industry's Customer Problem (00:46:44) Vertically Integrating Culture and Fashion (00:47:13) Building Beats: From Music Videos to Headphones (00:48:03) Marketing is Empathy (00:50:28) The Journey of Beats Music (00:59:09) The Future of the Music Industry with AI (01:14:40) The Bend in the Pipe: Harnessing Fear and Obsession (01:29:12) Comparing Work Approaches with Dr. Dre (01:30:50) The Tortured Path to Success (01:32:41) Balancing Happiness and Ambition (01:35:22) The Importance of Peace and Therapy (01:49:30) Learning from Legends (01:55:57) The Influence of Bono and Dre (02:00:15) California Dreams and Career Milestones (02:07:20) Final Thoughts and Reflections Learn more about your ad choices. And more! PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Taj MahalABOUT TAJ MAHALSinger, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Taj Mahal has mastered the blues form and has further built upon it by incorporating world music influences and expanding the boundaries of the genre. Growing up in Massachusetts, he made his way to Southern California in the mid-1960s where he formed the Group Rising Sons with Ry Cooder, Jessie Lee Kincaid, and Kevin Kelley. They signed with Columbia Records but, upon disbanding, Taj joined forces with guitarist Jesse Ed Davis and remained on the label as a solo artist. After a dozen albums with Columbia, he moved to Warner Bros. Records in the mid-1970s. Following a period spent living in Hawaii and largely out of the limelight in the 1980s, he ultimately reemerged for a new era of commercial success. Taj has been nominated for 18 Grammy Awards, winning five, including Best Contemporary Blues Album in 1997, 2000, 2008, and 2018, and best Traditional Blues Album in 2022 and 2025. He has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from both the Americana Music Association and the Recording Academy. His most recent album, a duet project with Keb' Mo' called Room on the Porch, is nominated for the Best Traditional Blues Album Grammy at the upcoming Awards on February 1st.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
