The average Australian wedding now costs a whopping $36,000, and while for many people that amount of money is simply unobtainable, it seems more and more couples are finding new ways of raising extra cash to have the the big day of their dreams. One of those methods is an increasing trend for brides and grooms to ask friends and family to chip in for the event, to cover everything from the meal, to extravagant extras like fireworks and luxury honeymoons, but is that ok? The Quicky speaks to a wedding expert, and a couple of married women to find out whether this is fair game, or if it's a very rude way of getting other people to fund a ridiculously over the top wedding that you really can't afford. There have been a lot of popular Aussie dads on TV over the years, all of them very similar - white, grumpy and not really that involved with their kids, but now we have some more modern role models like Bandit from Bluey, and Hamish Blake. So why have they come under fire recently for perhaps not being quite as good as we like to think? And why do Aussie dads in popular culture still fit the traditional "Larrikin" stereotype? The Quicky speaks to an expert in creative arts who isn't convinced about these so-called "perfect" TV dads, to consider whether our expectations of men continue to be so much lower than that of women, that it actually makes us think they are a lot better than they really are. Earlier this week, actor Rebel Wilson found herself being forced into making a choice: come out to the world and publicly state that she is in a relationship with fashion designer Ramona Agruma, or face being "outed" by a gossip columnist. Rebel's choice to announce her relationship on her own terms was widely applauded, as many felt it was unfair that she'd been forced to disclose who she was dating to begin with, and wondered why is a woman dating another woman considered headline news in 2022? Last month, one of the music industry's biggest artists, Halsey posted a video on her social media that was viewed by 8 million people in just 24 hours, but not for the reasons her record label was hoping. After she spoke out about not being allowed to release her new song unless they could 'fake' a viral moment on TikTok, numerous other artists came forward to say they too were being pressured to create content instead of focusing on their music. The Quicky speaks to two entertainment and music experts to find out whether the music industry has now become so commercialised that it's actually no longer about the songs, and all about the likes and social media following, and what musicians can do to push back. It's been nine months since the Taliban regained full control of Afghanistan, and despite their assurances to the international community that this time around they would be more respectful of women and girls, they are once again repressing half of the population. New laws and regulations restricting the freedoms, rights and movement of all women and girls continue to be introduced, including most recently a ban on all women from showing their faces in public, including on TV. The Quicky speaks to a woman who fled Afghanistan with her family about how the country is being gradually destroyed by the Taliban, as we look into how restricted daily life has become for millions of people, and what if anything is being done to stop it.
