A cantora e compositora Gau Pass, lançou a nova versão da canção “Lean On Me” (1972), de Bill Withers. As a native of Louisville, Kentucky, Marcus grew up with aspirations of becoming a pro football player, but his goals changed after having committed over 13 years of his young life to the U.S. Navy honorably. During this time, his love for jazz grew by listening and learning from the late Grover Washington, Jr., David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum, Najee, Dave Koz, the late saxophonists, Art Porter and George Howard. Marcus says on one account,” I became truly inspired by a phone call from the late George Howard, a conversation and experience I'll never forget.” Marcus would find his way before Rebbie Jackson (a Sister of Jackson 5 & Janet Jackson) and her family during a weekend show in Las Vegas. He knew his life was being routed towards a musical journey. Since then, Marcus has performed locally in Jacksonville, Florida and continued to travel abroad. To name a few notable events, Marcus performed for the Convoy of Hope (Super Bowl XXXIX) NFL Sponsored Event. Marcus won the Artist Music Guild's (AMG) 2019 Instrumentalist of the Year Award. He was the headliner for the 2020 Orange County Mayor's Jazz in the Park (Orlando FL). Other recent notable performances consisted of kicking off the 2019 Summer Jazz Series on Jacksonville Beach, FL before Jessy J. (saxophonist) and Canadian Jazz Band, Four80East. Most recently, Marcus set the tone by opening up the Main Stage at the 2021 Jacksonville Jazz Festival before the Legendary R&B Singer, Jeffrey Osborne and Legendary, Chart-topping & Famed Jazz Saxophonist, NAJEE. During Marcus's musical journey, he also received encouragement from famed percussionist, Sheila E., and saxophonists, Nelson Rangell, Najee, Mike Phillips, his sax mentors: Joe Yorio (Toured with Peabo Bryson) & Mel Holder (Billboard Saxophonist & Stellar Award Finalist), and the late great saxman, George Howard. Not too far in the recent past, Marcus released the single “Brand New Day” (2018), globally and to 200+ radio stations globally. The song was composed/produced by jazz sensation, International Recording Artist/keyboardist, Jonathan Fritzen, whom also performs on the single. It even received airplay in the UK and charted 7 consecutive weeks on The Smooth Jazz Network Top 100, along with peaking at #1, #5, #30 on other jazz charts. SCFB 323: Joey DeFrancesco Full Interview "MORE MUSIC" 10/15/2021. Fan for over 30 years, "thank you for the music"!

"SOMETHING...came from Baltimore"

Oct 15, 2021 In this episode of SOMETHING came from Baltimore, I chat with Joey D about his new recording, "More Music".    There is a Youtube exclusive interview also on this site where he chats about Questlove and Christian McBride...and we go down memory lane and chat about Philly's Orlieb's Jazzhauz.   Bio On Joey D.! Raised in Philadelphia, this is where the foundation of his musical roots in Jazz, Blues and other musical art forms were born. To hear Joey DeFrancesco today, his music embodies the traditional art form infused with a distinct modern approach, just part of what makes his music unmistakably his own.  " He has dominated the instrument and the field as no one of his generation has.” – Chicago Tribune  “Mr. DeFrancesco is a deeply authoritative musician, a master of rhythmic pocket, and of the custom of stomping bass lines beneath chords and riffs.” - New York Times   Joey DeFrancesco's emergence in the 1980s marked the onset of a musical renaissance. Organ jazz had all but gone into hibernation from the mid-'70s to the mid-'80s until DeFrancesco reignited the flame with his vintage Hammond organ and Leslie speaker cabinet. The son of "Papa" John DeFrancesco, an organist himself, the younger DeFrancesco remembers playing as early as four-years-old. Soon after, his father began bringing him to gigs in Philadelphia, sitting in with legendary players like Hank Mobley and Philly Joe Jones, who quickly recognized his talent and enthusiasm. With a natural gift for music, DeFrancesco also swiftly picked up on the trumpet after a touring stint with Miles Davis as one of the two youngest players ever recruited for any of Davis' ensembles.  DeFrancesco has recorded and/or toured with his own groups as well as numerous renowned artists that include Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Diana Krall, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, James Moody, John Scofield, Bobby Hutcherson, Jimmy Cobb, John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, David Sanborn and many more. The four time Grammy® Award-nominee, with more than 30 recordings as a leader under his belt, has received countless Jazz Journalist Association awards and other accolades worldwide, including being inducted into the inaugural Hammond Organ Hall of Fame in 2014, the Philadelphia Music Walk of Fame in 2016 as well as topping the Critics Polls in DownBeat Magazine eleven times over the past fifteen years and the Readers Polls every year since 2005. DeFrancesco also hosts a weekly program on SiriusXM Radio's Real Jazz channel titled "Organized."    More Music, due out September 24, via Mack Avenue Records, is “more” in every conceivable way. It offers up ten new DeFrancesco originals, brought to life by a scintillating new trio. And the master organist, who has long supplemented his keyboard virtuoso with his skilled trumpet playing, here brings out his full arsenal: organ, keyboard, piano, trumpet, and, for the first time on record, tenor saxophone. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/somethingcame-from-baltim/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/somethingcame-from-baltim/support

Caroline talks to Christian Sands, a friend, and Multi-Grammy Nominated Pianist. This episode is filled with amazing, moving glimpses into his working process, and life as an artist, musician, and human. We discuss managing life's pressures, connecting with yourself, understanding that it's okay to not be okay sometimes, and making adjustments when necessary. Sands also shares a personal experience he had with Warren Buffett and the life lesson that he learned and carries with him to this day. Christian Sands Bio Often, the term prodigy is applied with minimal context. In the case of jazz pianist Christian Sands, it is appropriate. He has studied piano since the age of 3 and began composing at five years old. By ten, he was performing across the United States.  After years of formal music education, he became a protege of the great pianist and educator, Dr. Billy Taylor. Like his mentor, Sands is devoted to performance, community involvement and music education. His initial break came when he was asked to be a member of world renowned bassist', Christian McBride's quintet (Inside Straight) at the Jazz Standard in New York City. After, he collaborated with McBride in a celebrated trio and which gained a Grammy-nomination in 2013 with their release, “Out Here.”  Over the years, Sands has performed, collaborated and written with artists like Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, David Sanborn, Cécile Mclorin Salvant, Coolio, A Tribe Called Quest, Robin Thicke and Taylor Dayne to name a few as well as scoring music for television and film. With multiple successful albums under his belt, his latest project, “Be Water” was nominated in 2021 for Best Jazz album in the 52nd NAACP Image Awards and Best Instrumental Composition in the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. #musicians #listen #playing #kid #kids #podcast #type Resources: Christian Sands: iTunes - Album - Be Water https://music.apple.com/us/album/be-water/1500308161 Christian Sands: iTunes - Artist Link - https://music.apple.com/us/artist/christian-sands/272387208 Ryan Sands: iTunes - Album - Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow https://music.apple.com/us/album/standing-on-the-edge-of-tomorrow/1621900581 Podcast Jingle by Real Topeka People Real Topeka People: Spotify - https://spoti.fi/3Np78CY Real Topeka People: TikTok - https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMLHgoYuc/

Welcome back to Hard Labor and Money Splashes! We return to our discussion of The Rolling Stones 1983 album Undercover with a look at the songs "Pretty Beat Up" and "Too Tough". "Pretty Beat Up" is a Ronnie creation, a groove tune maybe best described by Jon as "The Stones playing the Black Lodge" (a reference for any "Twin Peaks" fans who may be listening). David Sanborn guests on sax, and Bill jumps over to electric piano (can you spot him in the mix?) "Too Tough" takes the patented "Jumpin' Jack Flash" riff out for a new spin. Charlie and Bill are on full attack here, the solo almost skirts with a heavy metal sound, and is Mick referencing Bill a bit in the lyrics? Give these songs a listen and let us know your thoughts! Welcome back, everyone! This is part two of my investigation into music of the popular cop/action film series, LETHAL WEAPON, composed by Michael Kamen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn, and its fusion of rock, blues and orchestral stylings. In part one, I focused on the original, released in 1987, and the first sequel, along with presenting contextual examples from scores for police and detective movies which preceded this series. Here, I continue on into LETHAL WEAPON 3 (1992) and LETHAL WEAPON 4 (1998) while for context I touch upon other scores by Michael Kamen from around the same time period. In the late 1980's and throughout much of the 90's, Kamen's stirring approach of orchestral acrobatics defined the sound of cinematic action, including genre highlights such as DIE HARD, HUDSON HAWK and ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES.    Stay safe out there, take care of yourself and each other!    Connect with the podcast on Facebook and Twitter: www.facebook.com/ascoretosettle https://twitter.com/score2settlepod   Email the show at ascoretosettlepodcast@gmail.com

Welcome to the next new episode! In another of my "Listening To" series, I am exploring the music of the popular cop/action film series, LETHAL WEAPON, which appeared onscreen in 1987 in its initial installment and then wrapped up in 1998 with LETHAL WEAPON 4. The core cast and crew remained mostly the same throughout the entire production, with Richard Donner as director, superstars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover headlining and music composed by Michael Kamen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn. Specifically, Clapton and Sanborn provided wonderful tonal color via their respective solo instruments, guitar (acoustic, blues, electric) and saxophone.    I open by spotlighting some examples of music for cop & detective movies that preceded LETHAL WEAPON, noting how the styles moved from dissonant, dark orchestral turmoil to downtrodden, lonely sounds that often incorporated popular trends of the time, such as blues, jazz, funk and synth elements. I aim to provide some context for where the LETHAL WEAPON scores both follow this model and chart a new path, the latter through recurring character themes and motifs.    Everyone stay safe out there, take care of yourself and each other!    Connect with the podcast on Facebook and Twitter: www.facebook.com/ascoretosettle https://twitter.com/score2settlepod   Email the show at ascoretosettlepodcast@gmail.com
