As today's guest will tell us, breakfasts have recently overtaken Friday dinners as the number one dining out experience of choice. So in the always-competitive hospitality industry, restaurants that do those meals particularly well are in a fantastic position. Chris Tomasso definitely understands how to excel in this space. Chris is the CEO of First Watch Restaurants, which trades under the symbol FWRG. Prior to taking the helm in 2018, Chris served as President for three years and as Chief Marketing Officer from 2006 to 2015. Before joining First Watch, Chris led strategic branding and marketing for renowned national and international brands such as Cracker Barrel and Hard Rock Cafe International. In 2021, Chris was named one of the restaurant industry's most admired C-suite leaders by FSR Magazine. In this episode, I have a conversation with Chris Tomasso, a gamification consultant, and podcast host. We talk about creativity, personal development, self-awareness, and the path to awakening. This was one of those conversations where we could have kept talking because as you will hear we are both passionate about the topic of awakening. A few highlights from our conversation: Use data cautiously. Use multiple data points to begin to identify trends in what you create to see how audiences are connecting with your message. We talked about the qualities of good and bad gamification and how gamification is now part of the fabric of our reality. Learn how self-awareness can bring more freedom and joy into our lives. There are no boundaries in our life and work so unblocking ourselves in one area in our lives will help all parts equally. Learn why the parts we hide about ourselves are the parts that are essential to who we are. If you're stuck then moving your body, whether it is through dance, running, or biking can help release the negative energy stuck within you. Enjoy! Episode show notes and transcript
This week, the NRN editors discussed the latest collaboration between McDonald’s and a celebrity: Mariah Carey. The Queen of Christmas partnered with the quick-service giant for a set of deals leading up to Christmas. This collaboration differs from most of the brand’s celebrity collaborations as there is no special meal or merchandise, just discounts on items already on the menu. Also, the editors discussed whether In-N-Out will go to Florida. The editors came to an early consensus, but the deeper issue is what this call between Gov. DeSantis and Lysni Synder will do for the brand’s reputation. What does it mean that In-N-Out appears to be more public than ever about this controversial issue? The editors discuss it all. Finally, the team talks about the big news this week which was that Danny Meyer’s SPAC is investing in Panera Brands and helping it go public. For the guest this week, Ron Ruggless spoke with the CEO of First Watch Chris Tomasso about the brand’s first public earnings.

This week we resume my discussion with Molly Mandelberg and Chris Tomasso, co-host savants of hot new podcast Reveal The Game of Life. Last episode explored the relationship between creating and receiving and what it would take to invite 100 million dollars into your bank account. We are just wrapping up that discussion and are getting ready to talk about the seeming paradox of the power of intention vs surrendering to the will of the universal mind. https://wildheartsriseup.mykajabi.com/reveal-the-game-of-life
Molly Mandelberg and Chris Tomasso are the co-hosts of the hot new podcast, Reveal The Game Of Life. I asked them to be on the show because one of the things we talk about ad nauseum on The Evolutionary is that we all have a highly unique evolutionary path and that finding/defining it and getting into motion along it will open up your life is so many ways, while also helping to heal the world. This is because your evolution is the evolution of the species. But moving along our path is sometimes easier said than done. Every step of the journey has it gifts and challenges. And each must be received and addressed for each was sent as a guide (to quote Rumi)...So it is vital that we find the information or inspiration we need in those moments to continue on our journey. Almost everyone is stuck on something in their life, and many are getting pulled under in some way. Reveal the Game of Life, in my view, is a resource for people to a) get a hit of some good stuff in their day, and b) maybe get some wisdom that will get them through something that has been impeding their flow. Chris Tomasso excelled from a young age. It wasn't until adulthood that he realized the game of life was a little different than the academic world he had quickly mastered as a child. After searching and trying all kinds of tools, Chris found his way to a healing/awakening experience that changed everything. Life became a pleasure cruise in a way he had only dreamed about before. He lives in Hawaiian paradise and does gamification and transformational narrative consulting for businesses that do good in the world. After having his own direct experiences, (and 'getting' some powerful truths about the game of life) he loves to talk about what he's learned and the roundabout way he discovered his new reality. Molly Mandleberg is Not your average digital marketer, content creator, or business strategist, Molly runs her 6-figure business from her self-converted sprinter van, while traveling the world full-time. (i.e. living her dream) She has been in the conversation of consciousness for a lifetime, (maybe more than one) as she was brought up believing in the Law of Attraction. Molly's awareness of the magic available to her has continued to expand and evolve. She's built her career on synthesizing that magic, with the practical tools of running a business, to support coaches and healers to go big. When she's not gallivanting and being a boss, she makes art, writes books, and snuggles her chiweenie, Atreyu. https://wildheartsriseup.mykajabi.com/reveal-the-game-of-life

Chris Tomasso is a Transformational Narrative Designer and Consultant. His expertise includes gamification, storytelling, and embedding consciousness expansion in systems. He has facilitated experiential workshops with Google, Intuit and Facebook, he has consulted on holistic health and personal development apps, and he has coached via multiple energy work modalities. He graduated high school at age 12 and he has only had a 9-5 for about 3 months in his entire life. When he's not waxing about how reality is a hologram and or spreading the message about humanity experiencing unprecedented awakening, he's playing ultimate frisbee or body surfing waves in Hawaii. If you resonate with his message you can contact him at chris_tomasso on Twitter or via email at chris@octalysisgroup.com Today's episode is a little bit unique. You see, the way these episodes normally come about is that I end up getting connected with someone who I might like to have on the show, and then i have an introductory call with them to get acquainted and see if we both would like to do the actual interview. Then we schedule it and proceed with all the normal preparatory stuff. At some point pretty early on I learned that it was a good idea to record those initial meetings on zoom so that I could go back and listen to them again while preparing for the interviews. This allows me to be more present in those conversations because I don't have to take notes. So I got on this initial call with Chris and at some point I realized that if we were to have an interview I would just want him to say all of the stuff that he just said, so by the end of our chat we both decided that, since I was recording, that the interview was already done...it just happened. So this not only a recording of our introductory chat, it's also a really fun interview and a 2 parter at that! However, one consequence of doing it this way is that, since neither of us were thinking this would be an episode, it's a little more gritty than the normal episode, with a more casual tone and a lot more explicatives. So hopefully it is not too spicy for you!

There have been many stories about the breakfast segment's decline during COVID-19. Traditional breakfast-segment leaders from Starbucks to Dunkin' to McDonald's have seen downturns in sales, but family-dining chain First Watch wants the industry to know there's more to the story. “There are two narratives here and I wish people would show our side,” said Chris Tomasso, CEO of First Watch. The University Park, Fla.-based chain is suburban-heavy in its franchise locations, giving it an advantage over quick-service chains that customers normally frequent on their morning commute or in major cities with public transportation, reasoned Tomasso. Plus, Tomasso stressed that First Watch is an all-day restaurant chain, and one of the fastest growing, according to Nation's Restaurant News' Top 200 data. The brand has seen steady sales, and 18 new units open, since the pandemic hit the U.S. in March of this year. That can be attributed to loyal customers and an investment in technology said Tomasso. Before the pandemic, customers had to order for curbside pickup via the restaurant phone. The brand was in the process of rolling out the mobile app for months, but it just so happened to coincide with a virus that forced everyone to rely on technology which was already a leg up over prior business at First Watch. First Watch grew its off-premise sales by 500%, but the main source of revenue was and still is dine-in. Around 70% of First Watch's business remains dine-in revenue to this day. Listen to our conversation and learn why Tomasso thinks First Watch will survive and continue to grow.
