The Christmas season can be a bit messy. It's always been a bit messy, because we're all a bit messy. In this new series, we'll discover our messiness is the reason there's a Christmas in the first place.
The Christmas Story ends with a downer. Dead babies. Few of us know the story, and fewer of us talk about Herod's killing of the innocents. The message is clear, though: Jesus is on a mission in a world that really knows how to hurt each other. There's no candy-coated church person experience; we face all the same rotten stuff along with the world. Anyone who tells you differently hasn't read their Bible. But there is hope. This Baby has something up his sleeve.
This is December 24th's exhortation by Matt Carpenter on conquering temptations and disappointment and pursuing joy and gratitude. Matt Carpenter taught history for fifteen years and has served in pastoral ministry for ten years. He is married to Amanda and they have four children: Phoebe, Simeon, Emmaline, and Olivia. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and fishing. Trinity Reformed Church is a CREC church in Huntsville, AL. seeking to extend and unite the Kingdom in the Huntsville area. The story of Christmas is a beautiful one full of adventure, surprise, miracles and joy... right? Well yes, but it's easy to reflect on the Christmas story and miss the craziness of it. It's a beautiful, powerful story, but also a messy story. In this week's message, Ps Matt takes time to focus on how God brings beauty out of mess.

The Change of Christmas Matt 2:1-12
From before humans were made, God had a plan to send His Son into the world to save the world and restore relationship with Himself. Jesus was the plan from before time and He humbled Himself as a seed to be implanted into the womb of a woman, to be born as an under-cover King and restore all that was lost back to it's original intention.
This was Joseph's first Christmas! We explore why the Angel told Joseph to name Mary's son, Jesus. There is much meaning behind the name and many other names that Jesus had such as Emanuel, Christ, Jehovah, and Jesus Christ that we will explore. We discover that Joseph was a "good man", and had 4 foundational reasons to believe that the Angel of the Lord visited him in a dream. Who needs Christmas? We all do (especially this year!), but maybe not for the reason you think! And you may be surprised to discover God needed Christmas, too.

Lead pastor Phil Ayers continues LifePoint Christian Church's teaching series "Christmas Remix" focusing on the song "Blue Christmas". He explores many issues that cause Christmas to be very challenging and depressing for many, giving ways to cope.
This week’s episode starts with two stooges talking about the THREE stooges. GGRACE ain’t no good as a potential third stooge. 12 is a very applicable number to the people. Bill tells us all about the pain and perfection of “Paint Your Wagon.” Bill lives an an abundance of bubble wrap. Turns out Bill did say apples. 12 labors seem doable. Ethelred the Unready swings around to talk about how many jurors there should be. Matt exclusively loves the things he can put his whole mouth on. Bill doesn’t feel great about things that have been exposed to air. Matt lets us in on the secret to court-side interviews. Bill is on Matt’s last cranial nerve. The stooges come back to measure the duodenum. Bill loves 12 angry men. The fellas celebrate and then cast Lee Marvin. Matt gets very excited to cast a Mary McDonnell and to break down more gender barriers. Bill clownishly confuses his sir named celebs named “Michaels” and leads us to a very, very dark place. “Guy doesn’t know fun.” Matt is anti-cable news sources. On the 12th day of Christmas Matt officially hates the song. Troy, of “Troy ounce” fame, swings around. There's a new number one in the clubhouse and its #12! Blake is just being Blake. Matt notices the stark similarities between Williamson’s early remarks and Blake’s current verbiage. Williamson, like Bill, is deluded into thinking that people like him. Waving the leads under noses seems suddenly like more of a dictate. Matt finds it odd that Blake offers to clean out Williamson’s desk. One man’s derivative is another man’s “classic.”Music credits Cool Vibes by Kevin MacLeod https://incompetech.com/ Promoted by MrSnooze https://youtu.be/iYOvAO1rAM0 License: CC BY 3.0 https://goo.gl/Yibru5Find out more at https://gggrinfinite.pinecast.co

This year, we precede Christmas with a world of bad news, great sorrow, and violence. A stark contrast to the typical story of glad tidings of great joy and peace on earth. Refugees seek home. Terrorism senselessly murders. Is the Christmas story mere wishful thinking? How does its message harmonize with the reality of the world?

Recorded just prior to Christmas Matt is back from a cross country drive with his girlfriend the proud owner of a Lexus LS400 nearing 900,000 miles. Zack in the mean-time has taken up quad-copter camera duty while Thad has resorted to filling his Fiesta with race gas to make obscene power and I didn't do a damned thing other than work and make cookies. This week we had a Mustang Ecoboost in and we discuss that along with our usual mix of barely socially responsible nonsense.
