Bryce Doty, Senior Portfolio Manager at Sit Investment Associates, says that current market conditions have changed the opportunity set for investors, who now want to be trading up by unloading closed-end funds that have hardly moved in favor of issues that have swung more wildly, even if that means "holding your nose" on the quality of the funds you're buying. He says that he is playing NAV movement in muni funds but discount movement in categories like high yield. And for all of the turmoil, Doty says his prediction for fixed-income closed-end fund returns this year "is still double digits, it's just going to be different."

“We create safety by numbers. The more of us there are, the safer we make everyone.” - Laura DotyI met Laura Doty in 2017 after catastrophic fires leveled much of the county where we both live. We'd shown up to assist the survivors of the fire, people who were now living at the local fairgrounds, uncertain if their house would still be standing when the flames were finally extinguished. For far too many, the answer was no. Over the years we've become friends who share a passion for engagement, for showing up to do what we can, when we could, to make a difference. Laura, or Dr. Doty as she is known by many, has spent the better part of her life as a therapist and forensic psychologist.Laura is also one of a group of local women who call themselves the Benton Street Improvement Association. Inspired by a yard sign project she saw in Washington DC when she attended the Climate March, Laura wanted to bring the idea back to her local community. The collection of yard signs created by the The Benton Street group is what Laura calls, “small potato activisim,” to create a community that is safe and welcoming for everyone. This is a conversation between friends, about the importance of engaging in local activism in a time of great peril. About what it means to show up and bring our authentic selves to the conversation. About speaking the truth because mall potato activism is about planting seeds and watching them grow.As you listen to this episode, consider:We create safety in numbers. What is one thing you can do to lend your voice to a cause that matters to you?Laura talks about the small things we can do, even in our neighborhood. Bringing soup to a sick neighbor. Stopping to talk to someone as you walk the dog. Look for ways to help build community, one person at a time. Summon up your courage to join a community clean up, pot luck or local gathering. Bring your authentic self. Watch what happens next.Learn more about the Benton Street Improvement Association here.Benton Street Improvement Association Facebook page.Do you know someone who has a story to tell? We dive into the story of Richard Doty—a former U.S. Air Force counterintelligence officer infamous in UFO circles. Doty played a key role in a psychological operation against Paul Bennewitz, a businessman and UFO researcher. In the 1980s, Bennewitz believed he had uncovered evidence of extraterrestrial activity near Kirtland Air Force Base. Instead of correcting him, Doty and others, acting under orders from multiple U.S. agencies, including the NSA, CIA, and DIA, fed him disinformation, leading to Bennewitz's mental and emotional unraveling. In our interview, Richard Doty reflects on his past involvement with Paul Bennewitz. We discuss whether reparations should be paid to Paul's family and Linda Moulton Howe and his thoughts on the current UAP landscape and recent whistleblower claims. Bryce Doty, senior portfolio manager at Sit Investment Associates says that "the elephant in the room" for the economy is the growing federal debt, now up to $36 trillion, which puts the Federal Reserve "in a pickle," because the debt will continue exploding if interest rates don't fall, but inflation could get out of control if the central bank cuts rates too fast. Doty sees an economy that will struggle to overcome that pressure, consumers that are reaching the limits on their spending and more, yet he doesn't foresee a recession this year just a slowdown that likely won't last long because he foresees the economy reaccelerating before year's end. David Trainer, founder and president at New Constructs celebrates Monday's holiday — which delayed his weekly appearance on the show — by discussing an undervalued, dividend-paying steel company stock as he turns his weekly Danger Zone into "The Attractive Zone," and financial psychotherapist Vicky Reynal discusses her new book, “Money on Your Mind” The Unconscious Beliefs That Sabotage Your Financial Well-Being – and How to Break Free.”

Dr James Doty says Balance Your Nervous System To Manifest Your Desired Goals The word manifest may put you off, but I like James Doty (MD)'s definition of manifesting. He says “once the body and the mind are in a state of balance, we have the power of manifestation, we can start thinking clearly about what we want to manifest.” Renown Stanford neurosurgeon and neuroscientist Dr James Doty says we all have goals and intentions. When your nervous system is balanced you can begin to manifest.Studies show that as little as 5 minutes outside in nature or even looking at an image of nature balances your nervous system. When you are outside in nature your autonomic nervous system shifts to the parasympathetic (PNS) and you become less self focused, calm, and more connected to others and your world around you. You experience joy and awe. The relaxed PNS state (that can also be achieved by breathing and just thinking about the joy and awe in the world) is what Dr James Doty's recent book “Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything” (link: https://www.amazon.ca/Mind-Magic-Neuroscience-Manifestation-Everything/dp/1399710966/ref=monarch_sidesheet_title) teaches. The book is well worth the read and fits beautifully with your practice of spending time in nature or green spaces. The ability to manifest is based in NeuroscienceDoty's idea of manifestation is not the self-serving get rich quick scheme, tarot cards, crystals, or pseudoscience. Doty's view is based in “significant developments in brain imaging that allows us to watch the brain transform on a cellular, genetic, and even molecular level. We can now speak about manifestation in terms of cognitive neuroscience……and the brain's extraordinary ability to change, heal, and remake itself, known as neuroplasticity.” Manifesting according to Dr. Doty is the process of intentionally embedding thoughts and desires into your subconscious. For this he suggests visualization and picturing powerful positive emotions of your desired goal. Why? Because your brain will not know the difference between the real and the imagined. Dr Doty says this is manifestation is not magic – it is neuroscience. For peer reviewed research on how your time spent in green space can change your mindset, balance your nervous system and your heart rate please go to my website https://treesmendus.com and check out my books Take Back Your Outside Mindset: Live Longer, Stress Less, and Control Your Chronic Illness and Optimize Your Heart Rate: Balance Your Mind and Body With Green Space

A nejsme my všichni vlastně happychondři, jak o naladění moderních lidí píše filosofka Tereza Matějčková? No, ale tak intelektuální ten speciál zase nebude, protože Vondráček i Pečinka se místy ukazují jako opravdoví prdlouši.

I will never forget the first time I read Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart by Dr. James Doty. It completely shifted my approach to parenting, decision-making, relationships, and business growth. As this week's guest on the Cracking Open podcast, Dr. Doty shares his journey, from growing up in a tumultuous home to discovering the power of self-agency and the science of manifestation. He opens up about his successes and failures, his struggles with the choice to live life from his ego or his heart, and how much he appreciates being called out on his shortcomings. Ultimately, he has discovered that "possessions, position, and power have nothing to do with wisdom, insight, or self-awareness".In this episode, we dive into the science of manifestation and explore actionable steps you can take to manifest the life of your dreams. We explore how therapy can yield incredible results when the client is willing to confront life's challenges and the shadow side of their personality. When we can illuminate the darker, often hidden, parts of ourselves, we can then become more integrated and whole as individuals.More about Dr. James Doty:Neurosurgeon, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and leading researcher in the science of compassionSenior editor of the Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science and developed Happi AI (an app that treats stress, anxiety, and depression) As the former CEO of Accuray (NASDAQ: ARAY), he helped develop CyberKnife technology, saving countless lives worldwideFounder of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University School of Medicine, where His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactorNY Times and international bestselling author of Into the Magic Shop and his most recent book, Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation, which became a top-selling book on Amazon in multiple categoriesDr. James Doty's insights on manifestation teach how to make your brains work FOR us and help us create the life we desire. Send us a textIn picking her favorite album, author K.L. Doty let us know up front that she couldn't settle on just one -- something which we're all familiar with as music fans, right? So we talk about a lot of different music. But in regards to Disintegration by the Cure, specifically, she shared a thought that will land with many of us who have grown up (I guess that's all of us) and made our way out into the real world, which can maybe be the first real moment where you learn about things like compromise. Prior to the interview, K.L. told us the reason for her love of Disintegration comes back to this: "It reminds me of dreams and all the things I wanted as a child that I ultimately left to go chase."Her story is an interesting one, because she's been chasing a lot of different things for a good amount of time. There's been both happiness and heartbreak -- that's life in a nutshell on some days -- but also, redemption and discovery. Her newest project found her spending the past few years helping former Great White vocalist Jack Russell put his memories on paper and her book was the result of the hours of conversations they had. The True Tale of Mista Bone: A Rock + Roll Narrative was released this summer and is an unvarnished look at Russell's life and career. Through Doty, Russell puts it all out on the table. We enjoyed talking with K.L. to learn about how the book came together, but also, we spoke about her general life journey that has brought her to this point and what's ahead. We hope you enjoy this conversation!Support the show

What if there was a scientific approach to manifesting your biggest dreams?Manifesting can be seen as wishful thinking. Even people who believe in it tend to think of it as the law of attraction rather than the brain playing an active role. But it's possible to make your goals a reality by harnessing the power of your brain, your mind, and your body.To dive into this topic, I'm excited to welcome Dr. James Doty to the show today. Dr. Doty is a neurosurgeon and faculty member of Stanford's School of Medicine since 1997. Among his many achievements, he's dedicated part of his career exploring the mysteries of the brain.
