We had nearly three weeks off. Dude, we're are all melting internally like a little. I don't need HOTD... you need HOTD... I am not crying, you're crying. Shut up! Lani went on a homecoming, Rebecca had an emotional meltdown and one of those... like, epic movie moments... like screenwriters stuck in high school philosophy write about... you know! Sarah is Drinking: Troublesome Jellyfish, Fifth Hammer Brewing A hazy double IPA double-dry hopped with Mosaic and Motueka. Rebecca is Drinking: Happy Hermit, Green Bench Brewing Co. Silas Dent lived a simple and happy life on Cabbage Key in a hut made of palm fronds, surrounded by mangroves and wildlife with no running water and no electricity. In 1948 Dent was featured in LIFE magazine, who named him “The Happy Hermit of Cabbage Key.” It was said that Dent could forecast the weather, calculate the temperature, and commune with Poseidon himself. Before his death at the age of 76 in 1952, Dent claimed that “civilization is too dangerous.” Our Happy Hermit Pale Ale is a sessionable, hop forward approach to the style that is a perfect match for a breezy St. Petersburg afternoon, and like Silas, is one of a kind. Citra Ass Down, Against the Grain This is a very hop forward American style IPA. Brewed with Pale, Vienna, Munich and wheat malt for a solid base for all American hops, focusing mainly on the variety “Citra.” Citra hops are a relatively new variety introduced in 2008. It was bred as a hybrid of a number of different hops, including Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, U.S. Tettnanger, East Kent Golding, Bavarian, Brewers Gold, and other unknown hops. The resulting hop, Citra, has a distinct citrusy and tropical fruit flavor and aroma. In Citra ass down we used American Columbus for bittering and 11# of Citra at the end of the boil for late kettle addition flavor and aroma. Then we added 6 more pounds Citra and 5# Centennial post fermention for aroma. Rebrewed for your tasting pleasure!
We're back, with a new two-part episode! Part One features the irreverently delicious Against the Grain Brewery, and for Part Two we recorded segments live from Beerology in Buffalo. The brews we tasted from ATG were The Brown Note, 35K, All Funked Up, Pile of Face, and Citra Ass Down, and they were all fantastic. The 35K even earned the distinction of being the milkiest milk stout we've ever tasted. For the Beerology recordings, after a brief intro, we speak to Tessa about 12 Gates, John from Buffalo Brewing Company, Devin of Big Ditch Brewing, Derek for Gordon Biersch, and Shawn representing Long Trail Brewing. It was a pretty lively, fun, and hectic event, so we'd like to thank everyone who took the time to record a bit with us. Cheers!
Apologies in advance if this bonus-length episode overstays its welcome. Weighing in at one hour and thirty-three minutes, Jeff and Gabe take a deep dive headlong into how they manage money while drinking a ridiculously good Citra Ass Down by Against the Grain Brewing and a Hop Ranch by Victory Brewing Company.
