Episode 543 - Todd Bearden, Green Turtle Brewery Happy Monday, Thieves! Back at the Hotel Karol lobby bar this week - although it feels more like a business center. Amid all the insurance brokers in town for a conference Augie and John sit down with Todd Bearden, the owner of Green Turtle. It recently opened, having taken over the former Cycle Brewing Spot in St. Pete. Todd Bearden earned his BFA in Lighting Design and began his career bringing stories to life on and off Broadway before transitioning into the world of film and television. About 15 years ago, while living in Florida, he discovered a new creative outlet—homebrewing. Over the years, he honed his craft, winning awards in competitions, serving as a judge at numerous homebrew events, and absorbing wisdom from The Brewing Network, where mentors Jamil Zainasheff and the late Mike “Tasty” McDole helped shape his brewing philosophy. After years in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Todd decided it was time to return to Florida and pursue a long-held dream. Two years of planning and passion culminated in the opening of Green Turtle Brewery & Public House in downtown St. Petersburg. Opened just a month ago, the brewery specializes in traditional cask ales served on beer engines alongside a range of classic beer styles—bringing together Todd's dedication to craft, tradition, and community in a warm, English pub-inspired setting. Thanks to Visit St. Pete-Clearwater for hosting us in the area and the Hotel Karol for lodging and excellent breakfast potatoes. ***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com. It's the summer of supporting local and the CoLab Public House in Vista has been one of the ILB regular haunts since it first opened. The team sits down with Joe Deutsch to hear about the recent changes to the CoLab lineup as well as upcoming events. Steve Michaliszyn of Propaganda Wines pops in to talk about the next beers he's planning on brewing. Apparently the old saying, "it takes a lot of good beer to make wine" is true. The CoLab offers great beer, wine, spirits, food and 'adult' bingo. Take a listen to find out more!

How can the arts help us to encounter others? In December 2024, we were part of a fantastic live discussion at the RSA (Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) discussing how the arts can unlock unheard voices. This podcast brings you some highlights from the event with some extra insights and updates from our Dash Arts Artistic Director Josephine Burton. Hosted by Tom Stratton (Chief of Staff at RSA), our Artistic Director and Chief Executive Josephine Burton was joined on stage by Alan Finlayson (Professor of Political & Social Theory, University of East Anglia), Alecky Blythe (Playwright), and Dawid Konotey-Ahulu (co-founder of Redington, Mallowstreet, and 10,000 Interns). Sue Agyakwa whom we met in a speech-making workshop in Newham earlier in 2024, also, kindly, shared her speech live. Josephine and Alan shared what they've learnt from their 18 month long speech making workshop programme across the country that will culminate in Dash Arts' 'state of the nation' theatre production, Our Public House, in 2026. Our Public House is funded by Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Arts Council England, The Thistle Trust, Three Monkies Trust, and individual giving. You can watch the full event by visiting the RSA's website or their YouTube Channel.
