Katrina Donaghy, co-founder of Civic Ledger, joins Dexter Cousins for ep151 of Fintech Chatter. Katrina shares the journey of her company and the role of blockchain technology in solving efficiency problems in government. Katrina emphasises the importance of focusing on the "why" rather than the "what" of blockchain and highlights the potential of tokenisation as the killer app for this technology. Katrina also shares her insights on the challenges and opportunities in the fintech industry and the need for a contextual relationship between technology and society.OverviewIn this episode the conversation centers around the need for trust and governance in water distribution. Civic Ledger help citizens, industries and governments bring transparency, accountability and auditability to transactions and data in real time enabled by blockchain technology. The conversation also touches on the challenges and opportunities of bringing blockchain to the attention of the government, the importance of having a coordinated voice, and the need to focus on solutions rather than problems.Key Takeaways:Blockchain technology can improve transparency and accountability in government by providing a trustless method of transaction verification.Tokenization is the killer app for blockchain technology, as it allows for the digital representation of valuable assets. The adoption of blockchain technology requires a contextual relationship with governance and principles such as access, equity, and democracy.Australia can learn from countries like Vietnam, India, and China, which are embracing blockchain technology and investing in its development.Quotes:"We have to reinvent ourselves all the time, stay on our mission, but really keep on questioning what's our purpose." - Katrina Donaghy"We knew way back then that highly regulated asset classes would be really useful with this tokenisation technology." - Katrina Donaghy"We haven't asked for permission to do this. It's 15 years since Satoshi's White paper. And in 15 years, we've built this entire global economy." - Katrina DonaghyAbout KatrinaThrough Katrina's early years as a sociologist through to her interest in entrepreneurialism, she has extensive experience in public policy and early stage commercialisation. For more than 20 years, Katrina has worked in both public and not for profit sectors with a specific focus on business development, project delivery and revenue diversification with the view to building resilient and sustainable organisations. In Australia, she organises Women in Blockchain events and regularly speaks on the topic of why cities and governments should be exploring blockchain technologies. Katrina's interest in blockchain technologies is driven by her curiousity of its potential for governments to create and facilitate new citizen-at-the-centre markets, organisations and economies of the future.Connect with Katrina - https://www.linkedin.com/in/katrina-donaghy/https://www.civicledger.com/Follow us:Apple: https://apple.co/3D7NsPtSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3IzSViQSubscribe and like on Youtube: https://bit.ly/3tBlRmEConnect on Linkedin: https://bit.ly/3DsCJBpFollow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DexterCousins

In the final instalment of this two part series on the Great Crypto Divide we chat again with Lien Truong of Huobi Australia, and Lucas Cullen: blockchain developer and CTO of Civic Ledger, about the Great Crypto Divide between Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Lightning Network, BSV, Bitcoin ABC and the wars within the crypto community. Lien explains the history of Bitcoin Cash and the subsequent forks leading to SV and ABC while Lucas explains the necessary need for adoption and the fact that the banks are likely laughing at the squabbling crypto community. Both Lien and Lucas agree that whoever will win the great scaling race will need to take a crack at some pretty good marketing if they want to succeed. We also chat with our first-ever guest on the Clothesline, JP Parker, about how to solve the issues within the community. JP discusses with Abheeti the messages from Joshua Vial, founder of Enspiral who talks about 'Escalating the Bandwidth' in order to solve conflict. We also hear from Hayden Otto, voice of Bitcoin Cash in Australia and Executive Editor of CoinSpice, where he emphasises the importance not wasting time on changing people's minds but rather focusing on crypto adoption. This episode is an attempt to shed some light on the ever increasing divide within the crypto community and to perhaps offer some tips on how to resolve the drama. In the first instalment of this two part series on the Great Crypto Divide we chat with Lien Truong of Huobi Australia, and Lucas Cullen: blockchain developer and CTO of Civic Ledger. The question of what has become of the crypto community has our minds boggling when we consider the in-fighting, attacks and division of camps. We have found ourselves in a position where, particularly in Telegram chat groups, there is constant wrangling between the Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Bitcoin ABC and Lightning Network supporters. Even then the bickering doesn’t stop! Lien explains the history of Bitcoin Cash and the subsequent forks leading to SV and ABC while Lucas explains that we are actually talking about a protocol here, and while everyone is trying to scale, there is always an engineering trade-off. Special guest comments from Brendan Lee: the face of Bitcoin SV (Bitcoin Satoshi’s Vision), and Herman Schoenfeld: an early blockchain developer and the CEO of PascalCoin Foundation. Brendan Lee, the face of Bitcoin SV explains the history of SV from the very beginning of Bitcoin and why SV was born while Herman discusses why there is a war between Lightning Network supporters and those who oppose the scaling solution. The camps have spoken and in this first episode of the two part series we shed light on the facts behind the opposing crews and why they are backing their ‘winning horse’.Check out all our interviews on the Crypto Clothesline Podcast HERE.

The internet of things has made data an important commodity, but there is increasing distrust in how our data is used and managed. Blockchain, a practice of decentralising data, and creating rules around how we access, record, and use data underpins a monumental shift in the use of technology, and the trust we put in the keepers who hold our private information. Katrina Donaghy is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Civic Ledger, a technology startup that provides Blockchain solutions for the public sector. Having spent several years learning the technology, and being involved in multiple successful startups, Katrin is considered an industry expert in blockchain by the likes of RMIT University. In today's episode of Be The Drop, I speak to Katrina about how this technology could revolutionise services in government, how we use banking, and our interactions with artificial intelligence. Katrina's background in sociology provides a human perspective for our conversation instead of purely focusing on the technology because at the end of the day, it's how humans engage with and govern blockchains that will have the greatest impact. --- Would you like to join me on a creative podcasting journey?
