The question of what has become of the crypto community has our minds boggling when we consider the in-fighting, attacks and division of camps. This week we discuss the mental health effects of day trading and being emotionally invested in cryptocurrency with Dr Prash of Caleb and Brown. On a more serious note (after the intro discussing the pole incident lol) we head straight into the topic of trading cryptocurrency and how it can be a stressful activity. This relatively new market goes through highs and lows on a regular basis. Often, there’s a great deal with risk associated with any investment but even more risk associated with trading cryptocurrencies. For this reason, it’s often reported that those who trade cryptocurrencies experience emotions of stress and sadness on a regular basis. In poker playing and gambling there are emotions of anger or sadness and is known as being on “tilt”, as you’re tilted from playing optimally. The same thing applies to trading cryptocurrencies. Someone who trades regularly can feel compounding negative effects on their mental health as one loss leads to a series of losses made from poor judgement decisions based on emotions instead of reason. In our discussion with Dr Prash we look at the various reasons why trading can be inherently stressful and potentially negatively impact on family, finances and health. We managed to find a tiny corner equipped with plush leather couches, a coffee table and windows opening to views to the Brisbane CBD. This little alcove, walled with banners and 'On Air' signs turned out to be the hangout for dozens of crypto and blockchain presenters at the conference who came to hang out on the couches (some who stole a midday siester on the 3 seater between presentations and panels). Dr Scott Stornetta: Co-Inventor of Blockchain on Crypto ClotheslineSpeaking with the original co-inventor of Bitcoin was such a warm and friendly experience... Nothing like you would imagine Satoshi Nakamoto would sound - If you believed the rumors that Dr Scott Stornetta is in fact Satoshi. It is safe to say we absolutely do not believe these rumors however there is still space for us to be wrong. Blockchain was not born together with Satoshi’s Bitcoin white paper, it had been mooching around for almost 20 years before Satoshi started creating new layers on top of the original protocol, thereby creating Bitcoin…Scott went on to tell us that although their processes were on track, technology was just not there yet as the biggest storage drive was just 10mb compared to our terabyte hard drives we have now. Chris Dorian of BuildSort asked the inevitable question of whether Scott Stornetta was in fact, the Satoshi Nakamoto? The response was interesting “I'm a fan of what he's done, but I do want to say that when Stuart and I first talked about the Bitcoin paper, we felt like some of it was just a great idea, out-of-the-box thinking... And then other parts of it we looked at and said: Why did he make that mistake? Why did he do that?” But as our audience, have a listen and see what you think..... Is Dr Stornetta the real Satoshi?

Today was a little nerve wrecking being the ones in the hotseat in an interview with ABC Radio Perth on the current status of women in cryptocurrency. With many thanks to ABC host Christine Layton and friend Molly Schmidt for the interview where we chat about our time/children juggling skills, the roles of women in tech and crypto, what women bring to the table and the importance of being involved in a tech revolution. A little about our history came in to play, a question we are not often asked being the ones in the interviewers seat. There was a lovely reminiscence about our friendship that blossomed through our children and Abheeti’s family daycare. Neither of us expected to be this far into crypto with our own podcast 7 years after meeting in 2012.It was an interesting point explained in the interview by Abheeti that although women have over 80% control of the finances in the family we tend to steer clear of financial matters which is why we believe there is not as many women in crypto as there could be. It was great to chat about the value of both sexes in any industry and the benefits of balance but as Amy-Rose mentioned the main barrier to women is their own fear and/or thoughts about their capacity to succeed in tech and finance. Amy-Rose went on to say that her main piece of advice to women is to break down their own barriers and just jump in.

This interview with Amanda Alexiuc from Living Room of Satoshi (LROS) was long anticipated and still gives us warm fuzzies. Not just because Amanda is our friend but because the Living Room of Satoshi was our first paid sponsor when we were so small, even our family had to be reminded about that podcast thing we were doing. The Living Room of Satoshi took a leap and trusted we knew a little bit about what we were doing and jumped in with us. For this we are forever grateful. Amanda reminded us that the first moment we dip our toes into crypto waters can be daunting, overwhelming and can often lead to a lifetime of learning: such a raw and volatile new space. “I'm still a newbie,” she said. “I've only been doing this for 12 months, so there is so much to learn, but I think it's an evolving space. So it was kind of in a continual learning environment at the same time.”Something most of us can agree on is the sheer awesomeness of LROS and what it has done for crypto in Australia. With a brand new app enabling payments on the Lightning Network this once tiny start-up is still accepting input from the community with the intention to make crypto payments in Australia as easy as opening an app. “We’re always taking recommendations, it's about the community and about what everybody else would like. So if anybody else wants to let us know what they like, just email us and then the more people that let us know then the more we can do.”One thing many of us in the cryptosphere know is that when you are in a crypto start-up or newish business, it's hard yards. Especially in a bull run. Amanda shares that being a mum and finding that balance between work and family is hard but worth it. “Everyone that I know who has a project is pretty much doing all-nighters and up until the early hours. We do have children but we’re having so much fun. I'm loving it, and was talking to a girlfriend the other day about it. We were both working mums and we were like, okay, well…. All we have to do is find the balance between work and family. And then we both just laughed because I just don't know that there is one.”LROS is inspired by Nakamoto’s vision: the intention of making crypto payments an everyday occurrence. We thoroughly enjoyed having our friends from LROS on the show with us finally and encourage all our listeners to check out their new app and website. It’s the discovery at this grass-roots level of the day-to-day challenges, which then effectively dictates further studies of what’s needed on the ground and how best to develop the tech to meet those needs. While being far from optimal, with only 5-6% of people in the blockchain industry being women currently, Navroop is optimistic about encouraging more to join in. Roman Light Visionary of the French Yellow Vest Movement on the Crypto ClotheslineThis first week of season two is a showstopper comprising of two episodes interviewing the trailblazers behind the Yellow Vest Movements (YVM) in both France and Australia. Roman Light, the visionary behind the French YVM reports on the motives behind the movement and the current volatile situation in France. The peaceful French YVM protestors began their campaign in just weeks ago in November 2018. The mainstream media was quick to sensor and distort the demonstrations to the rest of the world making it difficult for many of us on the outside to hear the reality of what was happening on the ground….. Until now.Roman describes the injuries and deaths as a result of force from the government with nine deaths to date and hundreds wounded. “French people, citizens have decided to go against the government and the government is killing them. Literally the world doesn't talk about it.” He said. With the YVM heating up Roman remains separated from his family for their own protection and to continue his work spreading the message of the movement. When asked how the movement was going to make the change resulting in their political freedoms Roman explained “We have a constitutional right to trigger a national referendum from our own initiatives. This is a revolution. It's a true revolution. And the people in place, the power in place will never let this happen.” The Citizens Initiated Referendums (CIR) are a constitutional right according to Roman and will allow the French population an opportunity to suggest their own laws that could vote on, theoretically bypassing the French parliament. In a further twist, the CIR (OR RIC in France) would have a multitude of other functions including the ability to repeal existing laws and amendments to the constitution. Cryptocurrency and Blockchain were key topics in the interview with blockchain technology being the vital component in the intended decentralised, encrypted and secure voting application. Roman explains that “You have a political party in Australia that is called the flux movement. The flux movement allows you to vote on your own laws directly on your phone through an app. “and according to Roman Flux is based on the technology called the secure votes blockchain application “Basically every time people vote, the information is on the blockchain so no one can deny the existence of that vote, which will remove the corruption aspect of the political way.” He said. Roman is spearheading this movement that has launched in over 25 countries in just 6 weeks (Australia being one of them) however all the communication, news and media are conducted n Facebook. When asked about how he will secure the communication within the group Roman explained that due to the majority of communication being on Facebook, the risk is great. As such he revealed his relationship with some blockchain developers and fellow international YVM leaders who are working together to find or build a Facebook alternative. Some of these include Ivan Jasenovic from the dHealth Network a blockchain based platform for health records and Mike Holt from the Australian YVM.As a supporting and bonus episode we include the complete conversation with Australian YVM leader Mike Holt who sheds light on the movement in Australia and the principals, goals and reasons behind the Australian YVM. This episode is a bonus episode in support of our interview with Roman Light the visionary behind the French YVM (Episode with Roman Light can be found here). The YVM began in France just 6 weeks ago and has spread to over 25 countries with thousands of protestors flocking to the streets and to the Facebook Pages. Mike Holt, a long term believer in the Citizens Initiated Referendum (CIR) chats with us about the purpose of the YVM in Australia and the founding principles behind the movement. Mike shares with us the incredibly significant impact that a CIR could have on Australia with respect to voting for the laws we want and voting out those laws we don’t want. Mike points out that the YVM in Australia along with Blockchain technology could set the country up for a decentralised and fair voting system whereby the public can come together using a phone app and have their say. Some controversial points that we cover are illegal taxation including rates, abolishing fines where there was no harm (speeding) and restructuring the Australian Government altogether. As the founder of one of the Australian Yellow Vest Movements, Mike has aligned directly with the French YVM, an action to ensure that the worldwide Yellow Vest Movements are all on the same page. It is with regularity that many groups around the world bearing the yellow vest are not associated with the original movement. Mike explains that some groups we are seeing are popping up and have agendas not relating to CIR or the movement in France, instead are fighting for individual goals such as immigration, cost of living, self-defence laws and the date of Australia Day.Mike has begun releasing live videos alongside Roman Light via the Australian YVM Facebook Page to cover the CIR and the YVM. This week we interview Lucas Cullen, often referred to as ‘Brisbane’s Bitcoin Grandpa’. We could write a whole blog just on his achievements alone but it is safe to say that this would not tie in well with his humble and grounded approach to life. But to summarise, Lucas is a dad, a blockchain developer, a contributor to the Standards Australia blockchain standardisation project and a founding Board Member of Blockchain Australia. One journey however, (and one that the Brisbane crypto community are glad Lucas embarked on) was the founding of the Brisbane Bitcoin and Blockchain meetup which is now home to over 1700 members including the Crypto Clothesline Podcast. It did take us three attempts to tie this man down but it was a pleasure to finally chat with him about his life, observations, thoughts and predictions on the future of crypto and blockchain. Anyone with skin in the crypto game can tell you that the infancy of the space fosters collaboration and innovation but we have also seen the emergence of contention and separation. Lucas shares his experiences in the first five minutes of his interview stating that “Everyone comes from a different angle, but it's finding a common thread and I hope that people can come to the meetups and these groups and be respectful of each other's opinions.” And on reflection of the darker side of the crypto space he went on to say that “We’ve finally found a technology that can bring so much. But then we've got this ugly side, whether it's a power struggle or whatever, or it might just be technical opinions, but just feels like the community often gets split in fighting and it’s disheartening.”Often we see burnout as a consequence of years devoted to a cause or project so we were genuinely curious as to how Lucas was able to manage his ever increasing responsibilities over so many years (and we were slightly worried this highly sought after developer doesn’t do anything other than work). To our surprise there was a method and its simplicity was comforting “I guess the key is just try and be a little bit more efficient so I practice the agile methodology and the philosophy of last responsible moment of making a decision.” To explain the agile method, let’s head to the coding horror blog which is always a humorous place to find answers. They say that “Decisions made too early in a project are hugely risky. Early decisions often result in work that has to be thrown away. Even worse, those early decisions can have crippling and unavoidable consequences for the entire future of the project.” A little confusing to the organisational demons rummaging away in the human psyche convincing us to ‘be prepared’ for everything. Perhaps the boy scouts and their mantra of being prepared are outdated and the future is living in the now. You can always catch Lucas at the Brisbane Bitcoin and Blockchain meetups where you will find him engaging with and welcoming everyone. This week, in our interview with the dynamic and ground-breaking Nataliya Hearn of Cryptochicks, we learn about the myriad of ways that Nataliya and her committed female (and male) crew, are bringing blockchain technology and related technologies to the front for women all over the world from the US and Canada, where Cryptochicks first started, to Hackathons for women from Asia, Africa and beyond.Nataliya truly resonates with us being a mother of three boys, an engineer, a dancer and sometimes a painter. She was born in the former USSR and came to Canada at the age of 11. What we love about Natalyia is that she is always exploring technologies and opportunities that can have multi-level impact on individuals and society as a whole. CryptoChicks organization was initially formed by a group of friends (men and women) to help women understand the impact of blockchain and crypto. CryptoChicks has made the friendship stronger and more focused, as we are all working, laughing and growing together towards providing women technological tools to economic independence.WE spoke about the importance of feeling confident to ask questions, something many women don’t feel at ease doing in a male-dominated scene, since they can easily (and are often) perceived as stupid, unimportant and/or irrelevant. Both a mamma and an engineer, Nataliya realised from teaching at university, the importance of distilling information so that it’s made available to students in a form that they can understand. Many people who have become deeply involved in technology of the crypto-space today, forget that they were once beginners, and the only way they were able to learn was also through simpler terms. There's nothing truer than that by teaching something you confirm and learn the actual content yourself. It’s important to have that sideways movement from technical language into laypersons’ terms so that while not compromising the information, you are making it digestible for everyone. You can find more on Crypto Chicks below:TwitterCrypto Chicks WebsiteFacebook

Tone Vays is a well versed crypto trader and influencer with nearly 80,000 YouTube subscribers and is a former Wall Street trader and vice president of JP Morgan Chase. We are absolutely honoured to have Tone on the show to chat with us about the skills everyone needs in crypto trading to minimise risk and to grasp the fundamentals to stay safe in the space. We try not to stop at the basics of crypto trading as the pressing question on the lips of many women in crypto lingers – What happened on the Crypto Cruise? Tone explains his observations as to why the women were hired to be on the ship and goes on to say that “There was a lot more men than women on the last cruise and because on this cruise, the entire boat was being rented out and the entire boat was charted, I guess the organizers felt that there would be a huge disparity between the number of men and the number of women. So the women that were hired to kind of help on the cruise and provide some kind of balance between the male female ratios.”What we love about Tone is his frankness and integrity, so it came as no surprise that when we asked him about invites to pump and dump schemes, he answered honestly “Ninety five percent of the people I meet are just scammers who want to print their own money. It's so much worse by percentage in this space. So I'm not surprised at all. Most of the people are trying to run some kind of a pump and dump so they can just make a scammy coin. I get asked all the time, if I’d be an advisor and promote these scammy projects. And the only thing that comes to my mind is, wow, the person asking me has absolutely no idea who I am, because if that person knew who I was, I'm the last person they would email or contact. So I was getting so many of those emails and texts that I just walked away from it.”The interview covered so many facets of the life of Tone and we are incredibly appreciative to Tone for sharing his time and knowledge with us. Roger Ver of Bitcoin.com discusses the Free Ross Campaign on the Crypto Clothesline Podcast - Part 3

In the third installment of our three part series on the Free Ross Campaign (www.freeross.org) we chat with Roger Ver about Ross Ulbricht. This 3 part series is dedicated to Ross Ulbricht, the man behind the Silk Road eCommerce website who is serving a double life sentence plus 40 years for victimless crimes. Roger Ver is the founder of Bitcoin.com, he is a libertarian and a loyal supporter of the Free Ross campaign. The interview with Roger revealed that the fundamental reasons behind his support of Ross stems from their shared beliefs. “The vast majority of us are philosophically aligned with the idea that we own ourselves and we own our own bodies and we don't need a bunch of people bossing us around in regards to what we can or can't put in our own bodies. And I think Ross is of a similar mindset there. As someone who's been in federal prison myself, I saw exactly how these people get treated but somewhere between 70 and 80 percent of the people were there for victimless crimes, which for the most part meant buying, selling or using drugs.”Roger Ver is a libertarian and voluntaryist which means he seeks to maximize political freedom and autonomy, emphasizing freedom of choice and voluntary association. Roger explains that the incarceration of Ross has done nothing to lessen the sale of drugs and crime instead we are in fact seeing more of these things. “There's more dark net markets than ever before. Selling more things than ever before. But if you look at the ones that are out there now, they're much less philosophically pure. The Silk Road specifically forbade anything being allowed to be sold whose sole purpose was to harm others. Whereas now a lot of these dark net markets just allow anything. And that's really disappointing for somebody who wants everybody to deal with everybody on a voluntary basis.”Roger goes on to share his concerns around the heartbreaking number of victims of extreme sentencing. “My heart goes out to all these people. It's not just Ross, he's one of literally millions of people who's in prison for having committed no crime against any victim whatsoever. His only crime was disobedience against the state. If anything, I think disobedience against the state does a virtue, not a crime. I just want to let my voice be heard in regards to that. If nobody speaks out who else? So the more of us that speak out, the better. I'm lucky enough at this point in my life to have a bit of a platform. So I want to use that platform to spread the ideas that are important to me.”Ross Ulbricht is just one of millions who have been imprisoned for victimless crimes and the Ross Ulbricht campaign primary focus is on striking the root of this problem. Roger explains that the whole idea of locking people up for crimes with no victim needs to come to an end. He goes on to say that “If there's no victim, there's no crime and anybody that's trying to prosecute somebody for a victimless crime that prosecutor is the real criminal that needs to be stopped. And so that's true of Ross's case and it's true of all these other cases out there with, for victimless crime.”We at the Crypto Clothesline Urge you to head to freeross.org and sign the petition to free Ross Ulbricht.

In the second installment of our three part series on the Free Ross Campaign (www.freeross.org) we share the second half of our interview with Lyn Ulbricht and we rally further momentum with the support of Roger Ver revealing the physical effects the campaign is having on Lyn and her family. Our conversation deepens almost immediately when we ask about the emotional, financial, psychological and mental impact on her life.“Mental. Yes, absolutely. You're right. I mean literally I almost died, my heart just gave out because I was so stressed. Well they said it was this thing called broken heart syndrome, which affects the left ventricle of your heart. It was after the trial and the sentencing and I mean, my heart gave out. I'm okay now, but yeah, it's, you know, it's like seeing your child killed in front of you, murdered in front of you.”Ver speaks not only on the thoughts behind the extreme sentencing but also his thoughts on the hypocrisy of the state:“And from my point of view, if there's no victim, there's no crime - other than maybe the only crime that's been committed is the people that's imprisoning those people that haven't committed a crime. It's the police, the judges, the lawyers and prosecutors that are prosecuting those people and locking them in, in prison. Those are the bad people. Those are the ones that are committing a crime. And so my heart goes out to all these people. It's not just Ross, he's one of literally millions of people who's in prison for having committed no crime against any victim whatsoever.”Lyn’s son, Ross Ulbricht was arrested in October, 2013 on allegations centred on the presumption that he created and operated the anonymous e-commerce website Silk Road under the pseudonym Dread Pirate Roberts (DPR). It was this website that many believe was the fundamental piece in the success of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. The Silk Road was an open marketplace with minimal control that allowed vendors to sell both legal goods (books and clothing) and illegal goods including drugs. Silk Road prohibited any items and activity that victimised anyone including anything that was stolen, child pornography and murder. Hosted on TOR, the Silk Road site was a well-known e-commerce website that only used Bitcoin and thus one theory behind Ross Ulbricht’s extreme sentencing is that those handing down the ruling wanted to cast an even darker shadow over cryptocurrency by making Ross an example. On this point Ver points out that perhaps Bitcoin wasn’t the reason behind Ross’ extreme sentencing instead pointing out that disobedience and treason result in the harshest penalties. “This is a global revolt and I feel that bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and the Internet really is, it's a global revolt, not in any sort of violent way and it's just a global revolt in the sense that now we're building the tools in which individuals have the ability to tell the state, no, you don't own me, you don't own my life.”It is vital to this interview to point out that the case against Ulbricht cited no victims for any of the charges. The case was laden with inconsistencies, corrupted evidence and the fact that the Dreaded Pirate Roberts logged back into the Silk Road when Ross Ulbricht was in solitary confinement. “It was discovered after trial that some evidence had been tampered with and deleted, and it was also discovered that dread pirate Roberts logged in to the Silk Road forum after Ross was already in solitary. So if it wasn't Ross. Who was it?”Ross Ulbricht, a victim of extreme sentencing, is a vital member of the cryptocurrency space. He is sitting in a maximum security prison until he dies for victimless crimes on an e-commerce website. Please sign and share the petition at

In the first instalment of our three part series on the Free Ross Campaign (www.freeross.org) we introduce Lyn Ulbricht, the dedicated mother of Ross Ulbricht. Lyn’s heartbreaking and tragic journey with her son began when Ross was convicted of seven charges and a double life sentence plus 40 years condemning Ross to die behind bars. We chat to Lyn about the site created by her son – ‘Silk Road’ once found on the dark web (and which is no longer online). We discuss the extreme sentencing Ross has been subjected to for creating the site and the harsh reality that Ross never committed any violent crimes, never harmed another person and simply created an ecommerce site. Lyn also explains the many irregularities in the case as well as the impact on her health, her family and most of all, her son.“So he turned to the Internet and created this website and the purpose of it was not to sell drugs, which is what you will read in much of the media. It was to provide an open market that protected the privacy of its users and the only means of exchange on it was bitcoin.”We also chat to family friend of the Ulbricht’s Michelle Ray, a mother and founder of ‘Clearvoter’ who tirelessly advocates for privacy. Michelle chats with us about how Ross’ sentence was created as an example and a persuasive way to make people believe that anyone who participates in cryptocurrency or privacy centric platforms have ill intent. It is easy to see where Ross inherits his strength from as we follow Lyn through the story behind her son’s convictions and her endless pursuit to free her only son from his cage. “He's 34 now, he's not the same person, but this judge has condemned him to die in prison for something he did on a computer when he was 26 and they were all non-violent.” Lyn UlbrichtFrom a man who advocated for free speech, privacy and human rights it is easy to understand the movement behind the Free Ross Campaign. The case behind Ross’ sentencing calls for questioning particularly with respect to the fact his guilt has never been proven as well as the evidence tampering and corruption within the investigation. We strongly urge you to head to FreeRoss.Org and sign the petition.

In addition, there's a token element: a bit like a frequent flyer point system. You can now raise funds for social justice cases through smart contracts, where you've got complete transparency. No-one can run off with the money! You can see from the donor to the recipient: following the dollar all the way to the client. “We call it a proof of impact ecosystem - you can see the impact of every stake holder. You can see the company transparently, their expenses, you can see legally how it's operated. You can see the lawyers’ impact: it's all documented on the Blockchain.” Legal inclusion or access to legal services, is a huge problem. Currently there are over 4 billion people who don’t have access to justice, which is over half of the world's population. Social humanitarian issues are really at the core of what a lawyer and the legal system can provide, to give protection to citizens - the basis of the project that Stevie Ghiassi, based in Sydney, Australia, is involved in.

The main purpose of the event being education and networking. While we questioned Deryck about the obvious lack of women in the speakers’ line up, he assured us that Fremantle’s very own Dr Jemma Green was unable to join the event that evening and that visiting Simonne Hurse of Techfest-club.com and Satis group would be among panellists on the night. We're always looking for excellent speakers + companies to sponsor the group, please get in touch if you'd like to get involved. (http://www.techfest-club.com/) From Simonne’s profile on LinkedIn. Dr Scott Stornetta struck our imagination and Amy-Rose is musing over whether he’s actually Satoshi, or better, Scottoshi… Currently a high-school maths teacher, he started working on the blockchain idea back in 1991 while working as a researcher at Bell Labs, before even the unfolding of the internet. The research involved whether he and a colleague, could make a digital file unbreakable and indelible, according to Deryck. They were unable to prove their hypothesis, but then 3 months later, they couldn’t prove that it COULDN’T be done either… Some time later while queuing at a busy restaurant one Sunday lunch, he had an ‘ahah’ moment when he observed all the people lined up in front and behind him, with the other diners watching them in line… “Hashtags in a chain were the people in the queue, and the distributed ledger were the people watching us in the crowd…” Dr Scott Stornetta’s work is mentioned 3 times in the Bitcoin whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto. Deryck has been involved in a number of community charity events, one that saw Perth Porsche drivers take children out for a convoy ride through the streets and city of Perth in conjunction with Make-a-Wish Australia (transforming the lives of children battling life-threatening medical conditions through the healing power of a wish), raising in the meantime hundreds of thousands of dollars. He currently runs Classic Cars & Coffees one Sunday a month at the University of WA, where between 350 to 550 cars are showcased by members who raise funds for charities. What a breath of fresh air speaking to Australian Bitcoin comedian Michael Connell. Michael first heard about cryptocurrencies and digital alternatives to Fiat cash money when he worked as a copywriter in an investment firm back in 2015/16. Lucky Michael! He learnt then, with some surprise and possibly a little dismay, that the current monetary paper cash-based system was backed up by…absolutely nothing! He learnt that the digital money he saw on the screen when ‘banking’ or withdrawing cash from the machine in the wall, was actually nothing other than a series of numbers on a screen and that the actual cash was just a bunch of paper. And… he was clever enough to get in on the Bitcoin action early in the piece… a self0declared HODLER, Michael can happily make people laugh ‘cos he’s laughing too – all the way (from) the bank… He decided back then to bring Bitcoin to the people through stand-up comedy. The difficulty (and the fun) in writing his routine though, was that the audience were largely uninformed about the emerging world of cryptocurrencies. His take on this crypto-world is very cool: “I love Bitcoin, right? And… the problem with a new technology is that… there are always people who are not ready… Like when the internet came out, there were people who were like: ‘Nah, I don’t think this is going to be popular… And then email came out and people were like: ‘Nah, this isn’t going to catch on…’ And then Bitcoin comes out and people are like, ‘ Nah…’ And I’m like: ‘Aren’t you sick of being WRONG?!’ Excerpted from his YouTube recording Why you need to start using Bitcoin (see link in notes below) Find out more: Website: http://www.michaelconnell.com.au/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/michael.connell YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/MCHotline Why you need to start using Bitcoin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKQKEi2-0Ws Money vs. Currency https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60Fead0hihM#action=share

Nesh Sooriyan of Bamboo Blockchain on Crypto Clothesline

From start-ups in San Francisco to cafes in LA to offices in Switzerland to television in Korea to reviving villages in Sri Lanka: Bamboo is an international organisation, with an Australian influence, taking care of people on the ground floor level of crypto-acquisition, all over the world… Bamboo’s system is based on how to make it easy for everyday people. Firstly you download an app on your smart phone, which connects to your bank account and credit card. Within 46 seconds you could have used $1 from rounding up your purchase of a coffee for example, towards a high-performance cryptocurrency. You get to choose which cryptocurrency you prefer to acquire – from a menu that includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero and more. You end up with a collection of micropayments, like spare change you get to save in the form of crypto. These mini-spends hardly break budget as you’re not having to acquire thousands or even hundreds of dollars in contributions towards crypto, you’re just literally getting some crypto, albeit small amounts, every time you make a purchase with your card. You choose how much you want to round the amount up to. For example, say you buy a coffee for $4.50. You decide how much extra from that purchase you want to allocate – like 50c, in which case the transaction would result in you spending a total of $5.00, or more if you wish. You can switch currency so instead of buying Ether you can buy Bitcoin, you can sell your crypto back into cash and see that reflected back into your bank account, and you can even switch your Ether into Bitcoin for example, if you wished. So in that sense Nesh says the Bamboo app reflects some functions of an exchange. This system makes it easy for everyday people to ‘get in’ to crypto, without having to learn all the information you need to know in order to understand what’s going on and how to stay safe in the hacker-rich crypto online environment. There appears to be a strong humanitarian drive to empower people on the street to be part of this massive wealth exchange, based on an individual’s appetite for risk while at the same time ensuring that your purchases are kept safe.

Mayor of the City of Fremantle, Brad Pettitt, has an interesting take on Blockchain technology and its potential role helping create a more sustainable urban environment. In addition, he talks about the potential decentralisation of some aspects of government bodies by employing Blockchain technology - providing transparency and efficiency. With an academic background in sustainability as former Dean of the School of Sustainability at Murdoch University, Brad and the City of Fremantle are perfectly placed to work alongside Dr Jemma Green of Power Ledger, as a natural development to what started as a local infill project in the city suburb of White Gum Valley. In this second stage of the project working in conjunction with Power Ledger, users may be able to trade solar power using this Blockchain technology software by trading peer-to-peer, yet still being connected to the grid. With Blockchain effectively creating a verification process, there is a means to see exactly how much a particular household is consuming, thereby making it easier to fairly trade resources. In terms of other ways that Blockchain tech may end up decentralising some aspects of local government, Brad talks briefly about the potential effect on voting. Instead of going to the polls every 4 years, people can influence their communities more effectively by ‘…having more say more often’ and therefore being more involved because there is a sense that your words matter and cannot be glossed over – literally putting ‘power back into the hands of the people’. Matt Morrison from BlockBoxx on Crypto Clothesline: commenting in regards to our interview with CryptoGat, on market manipulation in the cryptocurrency market. Matt explains that due to the lack of regulation, whales (people or a group of people working together to hold a large percentage of a coin: their advantage is to manipulate its price), exchanges and certain groups are involved in market manipulation. They buy their cryptocurrency ‘over the counter’ (OTC) while it’s at a low, so it doesn’t affect the market price. They then go ahead and drive the price up and start selling as they go. Matt goes on to give the advice to young people: “…don’t chase the pumps, you’ll see it on the exchanges and think you’re missing out, try and jump on it and take a ride. By the end it’s too late, you’ve bought at an all-time high and get left holding a coin that’s worth less than when you bought in.” Due to the risky nature and volatile market, young people who are more inclined to take risks, should be more careful. Matt: “When people consider coins they need to consider people’s motivation for getting in.” Due diligence is required rather than following blindly.
