Fort Mose was the first officially sanctioned settlement for free Black people in what’s now the United States. It was established as a place where people who escaped enslavement in the U.S. could live in the Spanish territory of Florida. Award-winning author, humanitarian, and Orphans Africa founder M.E. Torrey joins I Am Refocused Radio to share the powerful journey behind her novel Fox Creek—a deeply researched and emotionally transformative work that brings to light the lived experiences of enslaved people in America and the untold intersections of history. What began as a completely different book idea turned into a 30-year calling after visiting plantations in Louisiana and confronting the disconnect between the glorified narratives of the past and the truth that powered them. Through years of primary-source research, M.E. Torrey wrestled with history, identity, faith, and the question of joy—discovering how storytelling can become a tool for healing, unity, and honest cultural reflection.Beyond literature, her mission continues globally through Orphans Africa, a nonprofit that has built multiple schools in Tanzania and empowered children through education, sustainability, and opportunity—creating generational impact.Learn more about M.E. A long, quiet, deeply unsettling journey through Year Walk, a folklore‑rooted mystery that feels part ghost story, part documentary, part “did this really happen?” Blair Witch energy. This playthrough ended up spanning almost four hours because we deep dive into and read everything - including the Journal at the end and all of its entries. I'll be thinking about this game for a long time. The folklore, the symbols, the creatures, the journal entries… everything feels like it's pointing to something older, sadder, and more human than a typical horror story. And when you reach the researcher's notes at the end, the whole narrative reframes itself in a way that's genuinely tragic, shocking, and leads you into a rabbit-hole of wonder. If you like slow, atmospheric mysteries, Scandinavian folklore, or stories that blur the line between myth and memory, I think you'll enjoy settling into this one with me. Have you ever felt discouraged by what you see in fitness posts online? A scroll through your feed can quickly stir up body image issues, especially when before and after photos are used as proof of success. But what these photos often leave out is important context like effort, mindset, and overall well-being. In this episode, we take a closer look at the impact of transformation marketing and how it shapes our ideas about health. You'll hear why these visuals often reflect diet culture and social media influence, instead of reflecting what really matters. They rarely capture non-scale victories or signs of emotional wellness and self-worth that are harder to see, but more meaningful over time. We talk about how constant exposure to “ideal” bodies can trigger weight stigma and lead to harmful patterns like weight cycling. These messages can pull you away from intuitive eating, movement that feels good, and even connection with your body. The pressure to chase visual results can chip away at confidence and joy in the process. Instead of relying on narrow ideas of success, we explore what real progress looks like in everyday life. Think strength gains, reduced pain, improved energy, or simply feeling calm in your body. These shifts reflect true health, even if they never show up in a photo. You'll also learn how to step back from harmful messages by doing a digital detox. Curating your feed can create more space for things that align with health at every size, mental health in fitness, and body neutrality, so you can start defining wellness in your own terms. In this episode, you'll learn: What before and after photos miss about your actual progress Why body image messaging in fitness often leads to emotional stress How intuitive eating and body neutrality shift the focus toward self-worth The connection between transformation marketing and weight stigma Steps to reclaim your feed and prioritize mental health in fitness If this episode helped you see fitness culture in a new light, share it with a friend who's ready to ditch the pressure and define progress on their own terms. Two giants of African American History share a connection few understood … until now. Jackie Robinson, the first Black player to integrate Major League Baseball, and artist and activist Paul Robeson became opposing voices amid the anti-communist fervor of the 20th century. Does podcasting really take too much time and cost too much money to produce? That question came up for me after a series of conversations with experienced podcasters who have stepped away from shows they once loved. In this episode, I explore that question from multiple angles, drawing on my own workflow, my production history, and what I consistently hear from people who feel stuck, burned out, or unsure about what comes next. I walk through very practical ways I personally reduce production time and cost, including how I record, edit, and publish multiple long-form episodes each week with zero monthly production expenses. I share why complexity often sneaks in unintentionally, how production standards evolve, and how simplifying your process can restore momentum without sacrificing quality or integrity. But this conversation goes deeper than tools and workflows. I reflect on why “time and money” are often symptoms rather than root causes, and how lack of return on investment, lost inspiration, or a changing sense of purpose can quietly drain the energy from a podcast. I also respond to a listener question about how to know when a podcast season or chapter is truly complete, and I share the real story behind why I shut down Podcast Answer Man years ago and why I eventually brought it back. If you've ever wondered whether podcasting is still worth it, whether you should simplify, pause, pivot, or restart, this episode is an invitation to look beyond the surface reasons and get honest about what you want to create next. In this episode of Tank Talks, Matt Cohen and John Ruffolo unpack the ripple effects of Y Combinator's decision to exclude Canadian startups from their investment portfolio unless they're incorporated in the U.S. or other tax-friendly jurisdictions. This move has sent shockwaves through the Canadian tech ecosystem, and Matt and John break down exactly why this matters for founders and investors alike. The conversation explores the myth of U.S. incorporation being the golden ticket for capital-raising and the rise of a narrative that Canadian entrepreneurs must leave their home country to achieve success. Matt and John challenge this narrative head-on, providing deep insights into why Canadian tech companies can still thrive domestically and refuting the data that YC used to justify their decision.Y Combinator Shakes Up Canadian Startups (01:09)YC has revised its investment criteria to exclude Canadian companies unless they're incorporated in the U.S. or certain tax havens. What if the architect of America's public school system was literally taking orders from demons through Ouija boards? Join host Robert Bortins as he talks with co-author Alex Newman to discuss their new book "Woke and Weaponized: How Karl Marx Won the Battle for American Education and How We Can Win It Back." This isn't hyperbole—it's documented history every Christian parent needs to know. Alex reveals shocking truth about Robert Owen, the intellectual godfather of public education, who openly admitted communicating with spiritual entities through séances to receive his vision for reshaping society. Owen's explicit goal: raise a generation freed from "the trinity of most monstrous evils"—private property, Christianity, and marriage. When his Indiana commune failed, he realized children needed government conditioning first, creating the public school blueprint we have today. The conversation exposes how robber barons like Rockefeller funded this system to create "complacent worker drones," not critical thinkers. Alex shares bombshell findings from the suppressed 1950s Reece Committee Report, which concluded a revolution had already occurred in America through education, funded by foundations working to merge the U.S. with the Soviet Union. Most urgently, Alex warns the same billionaires pushing globalism—Gates, Soros, Bloomberg, Zuckerberg—are the biggest school choice funders today. He traces the playbook from Sweden, where "free" government money trapped private schools under state control and destroyed homeschooling. The UN openly admits their strategy: use public funding to capture all "non-state education actors." Before government education, America was the best-educated society in history—your great-grandma's eighth-grade education was harder than today's master's degree. The solution requires complete rejection of government funding and recognizing God made parents—not the state—duty bearers for their children's education. Resources: https://face.net/ This episode of Refining Rhetoric is sponsored by: "Woke and Weaponized: How Karl Marx Won the Battle for American Education—And How We Can Win It Back" – A new book written by Robert Bortins and Alex Newman. Discover the shocking truth about how current education reform efforts may actually accelerate the destruction of educational freedom. Today, we're talking about fat. Since founding ZOE, I've actually started eating more fat. That might surprise you. Because for decades, we've been told to fear it. “Fatty foods will clog your arteries and send your cholesterol through the roof.” Right? Well, it's not that simple. How ‘fat' affects your health depends on a number of factors, including the type of fat, the food matrix and even how it's produced. One thing is for sure, that single number on the front of a food packet, isn't going to give you the full story. I'm joined by Professor Sarah Berry to dig deeper into fat. Uncovering which will harm us and which can help us heal.

The devastating cruelty endured by four-year-old Mason O'Connell-Conway, who was murdered at his home in Limerick in 2021, was laid bare during the trial of his father's girlfriend, Tegan McGhee (32).Doctors reported that the child's injuries were similar to those suffered by car crash victims.McGhee and the child's father, John Paul O'Connell, had told paramedics that the little boy had fallen from a bunk bed in their Limerick home. For some years there have been suggestions that in the 1860s Tom Wills, Australia's first sports hero and a founder of Australian rules football, may have taken part in the massacres of Gayiri people in central Queensland. Now, in a Guardian Australia investigation, Indigenous affairs reporter Ella Archibald-Binge travels in search of the truth behind the allegations. In this two-part special Full Story, she and Lorena Allam from the University of Technology Sydney's Jumbunna Institute discuss how families on both sides of the conflict are reckoning with the truth of their ancestors' colonial past
Colonial pastoralist Major Logue is a figure of note in the city of Geraldton, Western Australia. But his diaries, written partly in code, reveal a dark and confronting chapter of Australia's past – a history that Yamatji people already know all too well. Descendants of some perpetrator families are now challenging what they call “colonial silence”. For them, truth-telling is real, personal and local. There are no guidelines or rulebooks, and it can lead to denial and indifference – but it can also be a liberation. In this two-part special Full Story, Guardian Australia's Indigenous affairs reporter Sarah Collard and Lorena Allam from UTS's Jumbunna Institute discuss decoding the truth behind Logue's diaries, and how descendants of colonial violence are coming together to heal from the horrors of the past Warning: This episode contains historical records that use racist and offensive language, and descriptions of events that will be distressing to some

In this episode, Chris sits down with Mark Stanifer for one of the most important conversations in SightShift's history. What started years ago as a leadership framework has slowly revealed something deeper, a conviction that couldn't stay implicit anymore. This is a conversation about identity before platform. About ancient wisdom before modern strategy. And about what it costs, and frees, a leader to finally tell the full truth. This episode explores: Why hiding feels safer than clarity How leaders drift when identity stays implicit The difference between strategy and conviction What changes when you stop managing perception and start telling the truth
This week, we break down Matt's buck harvest from this fall on a 7.5 year old buck. This deer never was top of the chain and seemed to evade us when it came to encounters over the past few years. But, he was not shy on trail camera. A few years ago, a late season scouting mission connected some vital dots to the lease property. A small overlooked island in a river bed turned out to be a huge corridor and funnel. For years now, it has become one of the hotspots for monitoring bucks working scrapes as they transition from cover to cover or from bedding to cover. During a hot November morning, Matt headed to the island and had a close quarters encounter with House-8 . A stare down ensued, but the buck ultimately didn't bolt away and offered a great broadside shot at just 20 yards.

Twenty years ago, I launched my very first podcast with no idea where it would lead. What began as a hobby eventually changed the trajectory of my life, my work, and my family. It also led to the creation of Podcast Answer Man and Podcasting A to Z, two things that played a massive role in the early podcasting industry. If you've followed my journey for any length of time, you know that I eventually stepped away from that brand and that work. And for years, many people assumed it was gone for good. In this episode, I share the full story of why Podcast Answer Man is back, why Podcasting A to Z is returning, and why this moment feels so aligned in a way it never could have before. This is the honest narrative of how this decision came to be. What led to this return I walk you through a recent Hot Seat conversation inside the Green Room Mastermind that sparked a major realization. I talk about burnout, identity, seasons of growth, and why the version of me who stopped Podcast Answer Man could not have sustained it long term. More importantly, I explain why the version of me today can. With tools like Notion and AI, questions that once required hours of effort can now be answered efficiently and accurately. Combined with clearer boundaries, daily meditation, nervous system regulation, and a very different life stage, the conditions are no longer the same. This return is about integrating everything I've learned since leaving. A conversation with Stephanie Stephanie joins me in this episode to reflect on what she noticed during this season of change. she brings up burnout, parenting load, business funnels, and the reality of what it takes to sustain meaningful work over decades. Her perspective adds grounding and clarity to why this return feels different, healthier, and more sustainable. Why this matters now Podcast Answer Man is once again the easiest entry point for people who don't yet know me. It's the front door into my world. From there, there are many ways I serve today. Podcasting A to Z. Business strategy and mindset coaching. Mastermind groups. Long-term client relationships. This return reconnects all of it. Podcast Answer Man will now be my primary weekly podcast, focused on podcasting, gear, tools, industry insights, and listener questions. The Cliff Ravenscraft Show will continue as a behind-the-scenes space for mindset, personal growth, and deeper reflections, released as inspiration strikes. What to do next If you want to hear from me every single week, make sure you are subscribed to Podcast Answer Man. You can find it at PodcastAnswerMan.com, where you'll find links to the main podcast apps and a place to submit your own podcasting questions. If you want to work with me personally and be guided step by step through launching your podcast, my next live session of Podcasting A to Z begins in January. You can learn more at PodcastingAtoZ.com. This episode marks a line in the sand. I'm moving forward as the Podcast Answer Man with the wisdom, tools, and clarity I didn't have before. Thanks for being here.
The 18-page probable cause affidavit in the Rebecca Park murder case has been released, revealing disturbing new details about the 22-year-old pregnant woman's final moments. According to court documents, Cortney Bartholomew allegedly admitted to investigators that she cut her own daughter's baby out while Rebecca was still conscious, while her husband Bradly held a knife to Rebecca's throat. Both defendants are now pointing fingers at each other while simultaneously admitting they were present during the killing. The affidavit details 13 stab wounds, shifting stories, deleted phone data, and allegations that the baby's body was placed in a lunch cooler and thrown in a residential trash bin. Court documents also reveal that Cortney allegedly told investigators Bradly — her husband and Rebecca's stepfather — was the biological father of the unborn child. Bradly Bartholomew is a registered sex offender with multiple convictions. Rebecca leaves behind two sons, ages 2 and 3, now in the care of her adoptive mother. Probable cause hearings have been postponed until January. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #RebeccaPark #TrueCrime #Michigan #WexfordCounty #CriminalJustice #MurderCase #CourtDocuments #BreakingNews #JusticeForRebecca #CrimeNews Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
