What if the air around your home could become a reliable source of clean water? In this eye-opening episode, we sit down with Brian Chang, CEO and founder of Aquaria — the company building atmospheric water generators that turn humidity into clean, drinkable water. We explore:• How Aquaria's systems produce water from air using principles HVAC pros already understand• Why water scarcity is becoming a growing concern in communities across the country• How mechanical contractors could play a key role in installing and supporting this emerging technology• What makes air-to-water systems different from standard dehumidification• Why homeowners are using air water for drinking, cooking and even showering• How this innovation could help in urgent situations like the current water crisis in Corpus ChristiBrian and Clifton break down how a standalone outdoor unit can produce up to 250 gallons of water a day, connect to a home's existing plumbing, and deliver filtered, high-quality water on demand. Whether you're a contractor, engineer or simply an interested student, this conversation offers an eye-popping look at where the trade is heading.Learn more about Aquaria by reaching out to Brian directly on LinkedIn.#HVAC #Innovation #ESCO #ESCOInstitute--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nature: Breaking

Last winter you probably heard about the lack of snow in the western US, and how that might impact everything from ski resorts to farmlands and freshwater supplies. News coverage of this drought most-often invokes impacts on the Colorado River. But there's another system—the Rio Grande—that's facing just as much pressure. Stretching from Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico, the Rio Grande – or the Rio Bravo as it's known in Mexico – supports millions of people, vast acres of farmland, and diverse ecosystems that support an array of wildlife. But the river has lost roughly 85% of its historic flows due to overuse and a years-long megadrought. And this summer could bring the worst conditions yet thanks to the lack of snowpack in the mountains that feed the river. In this episode of Nature Breaking, we explore why the Rio Grande is running dry—and what that means for communities, wildlife, and the future of water in the region. Host Seth Larson is joined by Enrique Prunes, WWF's Rio Grande Manager and Freshwater Lead Specialist, to break down the crisis and explain what needs to change to secure a brighter future for the river. The First Water Sector Unicorn Wants to IPO. But Wall Street kinda forgot how to buy water... Early-stage water tech funding quadrupled in seven years. Private equity's share of water M&A doubled in a decade, with a record 165 PE-led acquisitions in a single year. The bench of PE-owned water platforms grew from 42 companies in 2015 to nearly 600 in 2025. And the sector just minted its first twice-unicorn - Gradiant - with a Series E at a $2 billion valuation on Day 1 of the Global Water Summit 2026! So, will Gradiant IPO?Four all-time highs at once... but the fifth dimension - the public market - went the other way. IPOs in the 2020s are a pale echo of the 2010. So I flew to Madrid to ask the people building the machine (the VCs, the PE platforms, the strategics, the bankers, the entrepreneurs) a single question: is this closed-loop water-capital machine a feature of a mature sector, or a $300 billion pressure cooker about to crack?

Everyone says AI is drinking the planet dry, right? Well, the numbers say your morning coffee uses 29,600× more water than a ChatGPT prompt! In this episode, I sit down with Alex Passini to pressure-test the dominant narrative around AI's water footprint - and what we found completely flips the story the media is telling. Here's what most "AI water crisis" headlines miss: → A single ChatGPT prompt uses roughly 16 milliliters of water. One cup of coffee uses ~140 liters when you count the beans. That's a 29,600× gap. → Of the water a hyperscale data center consumes, ~75% isn't used by AI at all — it's used upstream for the energy that powers it. Blame the grid, not the GPU. → One banana = ~6,250 ChatGPT prompts. One almond = ~12 prompts. The water-per-prompt math is rounding-error territory next to your lunch. → Florida already reuses 800 million gallons/day of treated wastewater. Data centers aren't the threat - they're an accelerant for the water reuse capex the sector has been waiting twenty years for. If you're an investor trying to figure out whether AI's water story is a real thesis or a media artifact, this episode gives you the framework (and the numbers) to decide.

Water is something most of us take for granted. We turn on the tap, and it's just there. But behind that tap is an increasingly strained system that is quietly becoming one of the defining infrastructure challenges of our time. Just in the US, McKinsey estimates we are underinvesting in water assets by about $100 billion annually, with the cost only compounding as more investment is delayed.  The effects are already being seen with over 20% of treated water lost through leaks in pipes that are sometimes 70 years old, generating no revenue for cash-strapped utilities. The record data center and industrial development buoying our economy is now facing major opposition, often due to local water demands. In addition, there are growing concerns and regulations regarding the forever chemicals, known as PFAS, which are showing up in more of our water supply. Today, I'm joined by Guillaume Clairet of H20 Innovation, who has helped build the company into a water treatment powerhouse over the past 25 years. From massive municipal reuse projects to distributed systems serving the critical industrial facilities, H2O is leading the water infrastructure buildout and offers a hopeful outlook on how we can start addressing our water needs. Iran is facing what many experts describe as a looming state of “water bankruptcy”— a crisis where demand has so profoundly outstripped supply that the very foundations of economic stability, social cohesion, and national security are under strain. From drying reservoirs in Tehran to collapsing aquifers and land subsistence, water is no longer just an environmental issue — it's a political one. Into Iran's fifth consecutive year of drought, the president has openly warned that we may have no other choice but to move the capital if sufficient rainfall doesn't come. And to unpack this, today we are joined by Milad Jafari. He is an Iranian political scientist, rearcher and policy analyst specialising in water diplomacy and governance with a water science and engineering background, specialising in water governance issues in Tehran and transboundary challenges of the Helmand and Yarmouk rivers. He serves as an editorial board member at World Water Policy, a member of the Iranian Water Diplomacy Associate and a youth associate with the Blue Peace Middle East. The International Risk Podcast brings you conversations with global experts, frontline practitioners, and senior decision-makers who are shaping how we understand and respond to international risk. Humans have a way of abstracting nature so far from its source that we take something as huge and powerful as water and isolate it, viewing it only as a resource for ourselves rather than an integral part of something much, much bigger than our sinks, showers, and dishwashers.‍On this episode, we're going to try to shrink the distance between ourselves and the water that keeps us alive, we're going to hear how you're connecting with water, and we're going to take stock of the ecological and financial impacts of trying to control water. Plus, we're going to talk to journalist Erica Gies about how we need to change our relationship with water for our safety, our health, and the health of the ecosystems we're a part of.

Comments/ideas: ACFpod@outlook.comHow is AI turning climate reporting from a tick‑box task into something useful? Greg Elders from Canbury Insights explains why financial materiality sits back at the heart of climate strategy. He shows how this shift affects investors, regulators and companies. We examine Europe pushing for real sustainable impact under CSRD, the US facing ESG uncertainty and mixed signals from regulators, and Asian firms juggling ISSB and TCFD standards while dealing with regional economic pressures.Greg sets out how large language models read annual reports, proxy statements and local media. They link business growth to physical climate risks such as water scarcity. The result is faster insight and sharper scrutiny. We discuss targeted stewardship, greenwashing risks and the future of global reporting frameworks. Greg also explains why a single global standard remains a “crazy dream”. Automated scrutiny is already changing corporate behaviour, and the pace is only accelerating.ABOUT GREG: Gregory Elders is Director, North America, at Canbury Insights. Augustus Doricko is Founder and CEO at Rainmaker, a company using cloud seeding, drones, and radar to increase rain and snow as water scarcity and drought intensify across the West. In this episode of Inevitable, the conversation focuses on why cloud seeding—often misunderstood as science fiction or geoengineering—has existed for decades and why it has only recently become possible to prove it actually works. The discussion centers on the industry's core constraint: attribution. For years, operators couldn't measure whether precipitation would have occurred anyway. Doricko explains how advances in dual-polarization radar and targeted flight paths now make it possible to identify human-caused snowfall, unlocking a path to scale.Doricko also walks through Rainmaker's vertically integrated approach, from weather-resistant drones and proprietary radar to software and validation systems, and why the company focuses on snowpack as a bankable water source. The episode also addresses public scrutiny, regulatory bans, and what it takes to build water infrastructure in a category that's easy to misunderstand but increasingly necessary.Episode recorded on Dec 16, 2025 (Published on Jan 20, 2026)In this episode, we cover: [1:53] Cloud seeding vs geoengineering [3:27] How cloud seeding works and its history[9:14] When and how it became commercially deployable [15:28] Advantages of using drones vs manned aircraft [18:34] The limits of today's validation methods [24:54] Why Rainmaker focuses on snowpack first [27:34] Rainmaker's go to market[29:34] Acquiring legacy operators to scale faster[32:40] Why Rainmaker sells services, not water[38:25] State bans, politics, and public backlash[40:39] Chemtrails and Texas flood controversies[47:15] The future of cloud seeding in the US and abroad Enjoyed this episode? In this conversation, Dr. Stanton Hom sits down with Mark Burr of Primary Water Technologies, a global operator helping landowners and communities tap into deep, earth-generated water sources. Mark shares his incredible journey from international business and Wall Street fundraising into the hidden world of "primary water" — water created within the earth and rising from deep rock, not just recycled rain. They unpack the history of primary water pioneers like Stephen Reese and Paul Power, how political and corporate interests shaped the "water scarcity" narrative, and why so much of our water law is built to control, not liberate, this resource. The episode weaves together geology, health, sovereignty, and an abundance mindset that challenges everything you've been told about drought and "running out" of water.   Highlights: "The Earth creates water. It's there in abundance. If that's true, it has enormous implications."   "You and I can't wake up and say, 'I don't like my water, I'll go to the Verizon of water.' You have your monopoly, and they'll charge you 12% more every year."    "Scarcity is one of the most viral belief systems destroying humanity and nature. Primary water is a literal wellspring of abundance under our feet."    "Ninety percent of the time we're getting water out of the ground, and 80% of that you can drink without filtration."    Timestamps: 00:00 – Introduction 03:20 – "The Earth Creates Water" 05:56 – Who Was Stephen Reese? 09:15 – California Water Wars & Control 13:57 – Lahaina, Fires, and Water Politics 17:06 – How They Actually Find Primary Water 24:12 – Drilling Stanton's Well 31:38 – Contaminated Layers vs. Deep Sources 38:22 – Structured Water, Charge & Health 50:28 – From Scarcity Psy‑Op to Abundance   Resources:   Remember to Rate, Review, and Subscribe on iTunes and Follow us on Spotify!   Learn more about Dr. Stanton Hom on:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drstantonhom  Website: https://futuregenerationssd.com/    Podcast Website: https://thefuturegen.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/drstantonhom  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stanhomdc      Stay Connected with the Future Generations Podcast:   Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/futuregenpodcast      Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/futuregenpodcast/    Links:    https://www.thehivemethod.co/ https://www.instagram.com/thehivemethod.co   About Mark Burr Mark Burr is an international development and water exploration leader with a global career spanning diplomacy, business, and applied science. Iran's Multi-Faceted Crises: Water Scarcity, Pollution, and Transnational Repression Guest: Jonathan Sayah Jonathan Sayah discussed the multi-faceted crises plaguing Iran, reflecting poor management and ecological decline, with Tehran overwhelmed by severe water scarcity as dams dry up and crippling air pollution with CO2 levels 10 times the WHO standard, while the water crisis is worsened by the regime, especially IRGC-affiliated contractors, who prioritize their support base through unregulated mega-projects, leading to rivers and lakes drying up, a deliberate deprivation of clean water that constitutes a human rights violation, as environmental disasters have driven widespread internal migration into Tehran, taxing infrastructure and leading to issues like land subsidence, with the population considered "prime for unrest," while separately, Iran continues its policy of transnational repression, highlighted by the recent foiled plot to assassinate Israel's ambassador in Mexico, as Iran targets both Israeli/American officials and relies on criminal networks to repress Iranian dissidents abroad, while consistently holding American dual citizens hostage as political leverage. 1896 TEHRAN

Three river catchments in the East of Scotland are now in a state of significant scarcity - that's the most extreme level of water shortage issued by SEPA, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. It says the river Deveron in Aberdeenshire is at its lowest level since the 1970s and that unless there's significant rainfall, other rivers including the Lower Tweed and the Don could also fall into that highest drought-alert category. Farmers in Scotland have been harvesting cereals earlier than usual, and agronomists are warning that shifting weather patterns mean growers will need to change their farming practices to help deal with the impacts of climate change.Butterflies are an important pollinator across farmland, orchards and gardens. However, their numbers have fallen dramatically over the last fifty years. According to the charity, Butterfly Conservation, they've dropped by 80% since 1970, due to habitat loss and changes in land management.
