Episode 549 This week's episode of Nick the Rat Radio opens heavy — a rough week of sickness, a dead microphone, and the loss of podcasting legend John C. Dvorak. Nick shares tributes from Adam Curry and Chris Wilson, takes emotional calls from longtime listeners, and reflects on 20+ years of No Agenda before eventually finding his way back to the chaos: Nvidia's origin story with Sega, NASA's canceled moon lander, and a very deep dive into eggs, Monte Cristos, and Lightning Network nodes with a caller. Then the sewer really opens up — the cyclospora "shittening" tearing through Taco Bell and Taylor Farms, a fresh Dark Sewer Network News dispatch from Jane Hanoi (demonic sewer alligators, plumbing poltergeists, and the Rat King's rat uprising), reckless geoengineering experiments dumping chemicals into the ocean and sky, a bison-tossing grandpa, the JD Vance corn dog discourse, and the ongoing Charlie Kirk statue drama in Times Square. A wild, emotional, all-over-the-place episode — as always, straight from the sewer. #NickTheRatRadio #DarkSewerNetwork #JohnCDvorak #NoAgenda #Podcast #ValueForValue #Paranormal #ConspiracyTheory #SewerRats #TalkRadio #Underground #Brooklyn #WeirdNews #TacoBell #Geoengineering #sewerchat A paranoid rat discusses conspiracies, secret agendas, and things they don't want you to know — while playing hand-picked underground music. Why trust a custodian with your sats? Edgar Borja (@k1elsalvador) breaks down K1's self-custody Bitcoin ATM, on-chain and Lightning buying, and Bitcoin in Bolivia. Edgar walks through K1's new update, buying Bitcoin on the Lightning Network and on-chain, what's happening with Bitcoin adoption in Bolivia, and what it's like pitching investors 5,000 times. K1's machines now support on-chain and Lightning purchases with full self-custody, cutting out Strike, Blink, and OpenNode entirely. Edgar demos a live on-chain purchase and explains why every K1 transaction is RBF disabled, so once it's broadcast, it's final.K1 machines now run in 28 countries. That growth reflects real tech innovation in Bitcoin hardware, built for the global market from day one. The team solved for different bill sizes, currencies, and KYC rules in every country they shipped to. Edgar covers how KYC gets configured machine by machine, why K1 stays buy-only for now, and a cash-dispensing module already demoed at the Adopting Bitcoin conference.Small business owners get a direct pitch here. Edgar walks through the three K1 tiers, Mini, Mini Plus, and Mini Global, plus pricing and why the bill acceptor is the hardest part to build. If you're exploring digital asset management or a new source of business growth, a Bitcoin ATM in a coffee shop or corner store is a low-friction way to start. Then there's Bolivia. Edgar saw a fiat currency failing in real time, banks offering 6 Bolivianos to the dollar while the street rate hit 10. The government built its own workaround digital payments network just to keep money moving. This is what pulls people toward hard money. Watching their savings shrink every week, people in Cochabamba are turning to Bitcoin.Edgar also shares K1's education tools: a crayon-and-paper workshop that teaches private keys, and a board game called MerkColor that teaches Merkle trees in under a minute. He talks about pitching investors an estimated 5,000 times on a Bitcoin startup accelerator and reality show, plus his advice for founders: fall in love with the problem you're solving. I just got back into the Land of the Free, and I have to tell you: it's a prison with a flag on it. Flock cameras on every corner. AI streetlights fitted with tech that can aim at your vehicle and listen to the conversation inside it. I went to the World Cup (no robot dogs yet, thankfully) but the cameras were everywhere, and nobody around me seemed to care. That's the part that should terrify you. Not the technology. The mindset. You just celebrated 250 years of “freedom” inside a surveillance grid your own culture built, because you dislike your neighbor more than you love your liberty. And understand what this machinery is for. The surveillance state is the ultimate weapon against competition, the lockdown mechanism of a rigged game. Politics is rigged. Finance is rigged. And the people who were going to protest it already did; with AI tracking, the rest are too scared to ever try again. They're building machines to follow the orders no human being would. So why don't I just despair? Because we already built the way out. That's why Crypto Vigilante exists… Watch on: Odysee | YouTube | X | Rumble | Bitchute | Vigilante.tv Blockchain is fairness as technology. We stopped trusting corruptible humans and started trusting mathematics. And that is exactly why Bitcoin was hijacked. The powers that be couldn't kill it, so they did something smarter: they convinced you it's a lottery ticket. A number-go-up token you buy on their exchanges and never use. The entire propaganda project has one goal: to keep you dumb, because Satoshi didn't give us a casino chip. He gave us a new internet: digital cash, a world computer, a place where you own your data and AI grows by market demand instead of by central planning. The antithesis of Palantir. And here's the black pill the maxis can't swallow: Bitcoin already scales on chain. Love him or hate him, Craig Wright's camp proved the thesis. BSV is pushing a million transactions per second and computing script on both sides of the UTXO model. They're training AI on chain. Meanwhile the Lightning Network, the thing you were told would save BTC, is dead. Its own whitepaper admitted it needed bigger blocks, and its senior devs keep walking out the door. Which brings us to August, when BTC's stalemate finally cracks in two: In early August, the Knots crew forks off with BIP 110: filter everything, change nothing, ten transactions per second forever. It's the end of the small-blocker experiment, going out with a whimper. August 21st brings the fork I'm actually cheering for: eCash (ECX), from Paul Sztorc and Layer 2 Labs. It uses Drivechains — BIP 300 and 301 — the sidechain technology Blockstream pitched to investors a decade ago and never delivered. Same 21 million coins, but now every philosophy gets its own room in the house. Want a big-blocker chain? Spin it up. Want optional privacy, with Zcash tech on ZSide? Move your coins there. Want scarcity harder than BTC? That exists too. Nobody forces one way of doing things, and no new shitcoins get minted along the way. It's the shitcoin killer, and it's the only lifeboat the BTC Titanic has. And while the forks race to scale Satoshi's vision, there's already a fair game running today: Monero. Private by default, immune to the surveillance grid, no permission needed. Most of our team became privacy enthusiasts the day the Bitcoin civil war started, and they've done just fine. Here's the real point, though. These networks are nothing without you. You are the most important node. The smarter you get, the smarter the network gets. So if I'm wrong, prove it, upgrade the software in your mind, and bring real arguments when you do. Because the psychologists are right: people under surveillance stop being themselves. The first act of resistance is to say it out loud. You live in the land of the surveilled. The second is to stop transacting like a prisoner. Peace, love, anarchy. Stay vigilant. Bitcoin takes 10 minutes to confirm a transaction on the main blockchain. Visa processes 24,000 transactions per second. Bitcoin manages 7. That gap is real and for years it was Bitcoin's biggest weakness. The Lightning Network is the layer built on top of Bitcoin that most people, including a lot of Bitcoin holders, have never heard of. It makes Bitcoin transactions instant. It makes them essentially free. And in February 2026 it processed over a billion dollars in payments in a single month for the first time.In this episode:What the Lightning Network actually is, explained through a pub tab analogy that makes the whole thing click immediately, including how payment channels work and how your payment routes through the network without you needing a direct connection to every person you payWhy this is a genuine threat to Visa and Mastercard, the two most profitable toll booth businesses ever created, and how Lightning removes the middleman from every transaction they currently take a cut fromWhere Lightning actually sits in 2026, including Coinbase's integration, the February 2026 billion dollar monthly payment milestone, and what the consolidation of the node network actually meansWhy this changes how you should think about what Bitcoin is, including Satoshi's original vision for peer to peer electronic cash and what growing real world utility means for Bitcoin's value over timeIf you know someone who thinks Bitcoin is too slow to be a real currency, this episode is the answer to that argument.I built a free calculator that shows exactly what consistent monthly Bitcoin investing could do to your wealth over 5, 10 or 20 years. ***"We're entering the Bitcoin golden era with all the new technologies we're discovering because for the first decade Bitcoin was still very, at least for the first five, six years, there was so little capital in the industry that not a lot was getting built. Plus Bitcoin still had all these early on issues. Now we're getting to the moment where Bitcoin is extremely solid. It's a trillion dollar industry, right, or a trillion dollar asset. So I think we're just entering the golden era." ~ Gustavo Flores*** I sat down with Gustavo Flores, the CEO of Aureo, Mexico's Bitcoin platform, and this conversation went far beyond just building software. Gustavo actually left Canada for Mexico because of the intense COVID mandates. He recognized the red flags of government overreach early on and refused to stick around. But what he found in Mexico was a completely different beast. We talked about the harsh realities of building a Bitcoin company in a low-trust society where people are conditioned to expect scams. And yet, Gustavo and his team are building some of the most impressive tools I have seen. They figured out a way to route local fiat directly to a self-custodial Lightning address, without even the need of a middleman to hold your keys. It just works. We also talked about the heavy lifting required to run La Casa de Satoshi, a physical Bitcoin hub in Mexico City. It takes a severe amount of irrational optimism to be a founder in this space, but the effort is paying off. Plus, we got into the weeds on why Lightning development is actually moving faster than people think. If you assume the best era of Bitcoin development is already behind us, you need to hear this conversation. Can Bitcoin save traditional farming from total collapse? El Salvador's Cherito (@CheritoCafe) de-financialized his supply chain, uses a Bitcoin circular economy to bypass banks, and runs nodes inside his coffee lab! In this episode, we sit down with Jorge, globally recognized in the community as Cherito, to dissect how legacy financial institutions manipulate commodity pricing to trap agricultural families in a perpetual cycle of poverty after leaving a lucrative technology and finance career in Seattle to return home to El Salvador. We took a look at how he is merging specialty coffee, agroecology, and a peer-to-peer Bitcoin standard to build an automated, zero-fiat circular economy from the ground up. Faced with total ruin from systemic economic decay and a devastating agricultural plague, Jorge realized that the only path to survival was to completely opt out of the generic commodity market by fundamentally restructuring how high-end specialty coffee is valued. Through the launch of the Bio Crop Project, he pioneered a localized framework that prioritizes biological resilience and ancestral agroecology over industrial chemicals and corporate-controlled seed monopolies, proving that wealth creation requires physical sacrifice, strategic crop diversification, and an unyielding commitment to local food independence. To fully protect this model from predatory global inflation, Jorge took absolute control of his supply chain by vertically integrating everything from the volcanic soil to direct international exporting. He breaks down how shielding delicate bean profiles from corporate exploitation relies entirely on understanding how to leverage the distinct microclimate and high-altitude terroir of El Salvador's mountains. By taking his message directly to global academic panels and roaster guilds, he transformed a vulnerable, localized crop into a premium global asset capable of dictating its own fair valuation on international markets. The structural revolution took place when this physical infrastructure collided with a digital, sound money standard right here in El Zonte. Jorge explains how finding the Bitcoin whitepaper provided the missing link for his business, allowing him to establish a completely self-sustaining circular economy that operates entirely outside the legacy banking grid. By anchoring his operations to a peer-to-peer electronic cash network, he successfully eliminated credit card processing traps, currency devaluation risks, and international wire delays, allowing his business to reallocate bank fees directly into the pockets of his local workers. We wrap up the conversation inside his newly launched flagship facility, where the boundaries of a traditional business are being completely redrawn through onsite coffee roasting, active ASIC miners, and a live blockchain node visualizer. We also dive into the fascinating history of his beautifully restored 1974 GM Cherito truck, which is a rare piece of Salvadorean automotive engineering that embodies absolute scarcity. Finally, Jorge reveals the genius behind upcycling discarded fruit skins into a refreshing, antioxidant-rich beverage the community now proudly calls "Bitcoin Libre", proving that under a true proof-of-work standard, absolutely nothing goes to waste.—Bitcoin Beach TeamLearn more about Cherito:X: https://x.com/CheritoCafeWeb: https://www.cheritocafe.com/IG: https://www.instagram.com/cheritocafe.svSupport and follow Bitcoin Beach:X: https://www.twitter.com/BitcoinBeachIG: https://www.instagram.com/bitcoinbeach_sv TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@livefrombitcoinbeach Web: https://www.bitcoinbeach.com Browse through this quick guide to learn more about the episode:00:00 Intro01:25 Why do tech professionals quit fiat careers for El Salvador?05:09 How does legacy financial structure impact farming stability?09:01 How do you bypass banking intermediaries via a circular economy?10:52 Why does physical proof of work require long-term capital?17:09 How does El Salvador protect commodities from global inflation?25:31 Why is specialty coffee cultivation analog proof of work?32:00 What does the bitcoin supply cap teach us about scarcity?45:24 How do you run a routing node and ASIC miners inside a business?49:24 Why is Bitcoin Libre a direct challenge to central planning?Live From Bitcoin Beach

From there the conversation widens into surveillance, Flock cameras showing up in neighborhoods without public votes, and why the data being collected today may be the most dangerous in 2035 when AI is powerful enough to mine it retroactively. The heart of the episode is Bitcoin — Chris's origin story through the 2008 financial crisis, losing what would now be generational wealth in the Mt. Gox hack, and why he stayed convicted anyway. He breaks down why Bitcoin is a money protocol the same way HTTP is a web protocol, explains the Lightning Network in plain language, and makes the case that the generational divide between boomers and millennials is really an asset-ownership divide: inflation has been great if you owned a house, catastrophic if you didn't. He also walks through his value-for-value podcast model — no advertisers, audience as the customer, splits paid automatically over Lightning — and why transparency about how much each episode earns keeps him honest and keeps the show free from capture. The episode closes on the Clarity Act, Jamie Dimon's very loud objections to Coinbase, AI IPO mania as the biggest financial gamble of the decade, and what question to actually ask a Bitcoiner instead of "what's the price going to be?"Articulate.Ventures/IBCLegacyInterviews.com

Most Bitcoin scaling projects pick a lane. Arkade refuses to. In this conversation, Ark Labs' Andrew "Kukks" Camilleri explains why Arkade is a general-purpose off-chain environment where you can express your own unlocking scripts — multisig, hash-lock contracts, and more — without opinionated rails like built-in Lightning. He and Shinobi unpack the cosigner trust model, trusted execution environments, and how users can self-deploy signers to remove the possibility of incorrect execution.Grab your copy THE 2036 ISSUE

Is the Wall Street ETF narrative killing peer-to-peer Bitcoin adoption? Is Bitcoin failing if it only becomes a corporate store of value hoarded on Wall Street? Institutional demand and exchange-traded funds are not the end game for hyperbitcoinization. True freedom requires building an alternative economic system entirely outside legacy banking, proving that Bitcoin must function as everyday money to succeed.Uncle Rockstar Dev (@r0ckstardev) unpacks how open source software protects financial sovereignty. The cypherpunk history of BTCPay Server demonstrates how a non-custodial payment gateway allows anyone to host a node without asking permission. Relying on a centralized crypto payment processor intermediates your wealth, meaning you must self-host your infrastructure to enforce individual sovereignty.A thriving circular economy operates directly on the ground. From kids using the Lightning Network to buy choco bananas in El Zonte to alternative networks expanding across Africa and Indonesia, communities are establishing localized ecosystems. These regions completely bypass legacy structures, choosing instead to settle daily medium of exchange transactions directly in Satoshis.Documenting this global shift requires a dedicated grassroots movement of creators who reject mainstream financial media. Independent documentarians Zack Dorsey (@zackdorseyx) and Brandon Martin (@elbrandonmartin) share their proof of work traveling from Central America to Mauritius to capture peer to peer adoption. Capturing these alternative networks on camera is vital to countering corporate narratives and demonstrating how local financial inclusion scales from the bottom up.This decentralized evolution dismantles the broken, top-down corporate NGO model. Instead of creating loops of financial dependency, the leaders meeting at the Zonte Economic Forum are connecting their localized circles to build global network synergy. BTC é o produto e a recompensa.

Is Bukele a dictator, or is he simply executing the mandate of a population that was previously held hostage by gang violence and state corruption?Joe Nakamoto joins me to separate the propaganda from the facts surrounding the first nation to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. We examine the on-the-ground truth of what happens when a nation opts out of the broken fiat system and bets on a sovereign future.Moving beyond the headlines, we break down what a functional circular economy looks like. From El Zonte to Livingstone, Zambia, the goal is radical independence, building economic growth from the bottom up. We explore how merchants, farmers, and tourists are keeping value within their own communities instead of leaking it to centralized intermediaries, creating tangible wealth where credit cards and banks were never an option. The conversation inevitably turns to President Bukele and the tension between safety and state power. It is a complex situation that forces us to reconcile our comfortable Western ideals of governance with the raw, utilitarian needs of a developing nation that is finally feeling secure for the first time in generations. We also pull no punches on the surveillance state. With the rise of strict KYC requirements, the core promise of decentralization is under constant threat. Joe and I discuss why Bitcoin companies have a moral obligation to push back against regulatory capture. Relying on peer-to-peer solutions is the only way to avoid the trap of a segmented, compliant financial system that destroys the privacy that makes Bitcoin valuable in the first place. Finally, we talk about the mental leap required to fully embrace this change. The lightning network has made fast and cheap transactions possible, but the transformation happens in the mind. We discuss the difficult process of unlearning fiat habits and training ourselves to price our labor, our time, and our future in satoshis. If you are ready to stop watching the tickers and start participating in the revolution, this conversation is for you. Building an alternative system will.John Bush joins me for a conversation that traces an unexpected journey, from political activism and grassroots organizing to a very different question: what if real freedom isn't something that can be achieved through politics at all?His early path took him deep into the world of libertarian organizing during the Ron Paul era, where he helped launch local political efforts and worked closely with activists pushing for liberty-focused legislation in Texas. But years inside that system eventually led to a realization that forced him to rethink the strategy entirely. That shift opened the door to a very different approach, one centered on building alternatives rather than trying to reform existing institutions. From alternative currencies to local food networks and decentralized communities, the conversation explores what it might look like to create systems that operate outside traditional power structures. We begin unpacking Bitcoin and cryptocurrency through simple analogies that reveal why many people see decentralized money as part of a much larger shift. If you've ever wondered whether real freedom can be built rather than granted, this episode will challenge the way you think about the path forward. You'll Learn:[00:00] Introduction[07:38] The Karpman Drama Triangle and why the freedom movement keeps losing[18:09] How Epstein redirected the most rebellious money ever invented[25:55] Why John doesn't think the CIA created Bitcoin, and what the evidence actually shows[49:49] What the central banks saw in Bitcoin that most people missed[57:05] Why Trump winning may have been worse for freedom than Trump losing[01:10:30] Getting banned from PayPal, Stripe, and his own bank, and what it revealed[01:17:07] Is Bitcoin for wealth or for war?[01:24:14] The red flags John saw in TexCoin before it collapsed, and how to spot the next one[01:30:34] The privacy coins the government actually can't track, and why that matters now[01:39:26] What freedom tech actually works when they cut your internet access[01:53:35] The Lightning Network's custodial problem[01:59:52] From intentional community to a backyard with containersRelated The Way Forward Episodes: How to Get Out of the "Technocratic Tyranny" & Achieve Real Freedom | Derrick Broze | YouTubeBlockchain/Web3 Scam? Is the Be Your Own Bank dream a nightmare for most people? While the Bitcoin community has preached self custody as the only path to freedom, many are terrified of losing savings to a single technical error. Obi Nwosu (@obi) argues we have hit a wall with traditional sovereignty. Unless we make Bitcoin as easy as a group chat, we will never see the mass adoption required to topple the legacy financial system. We are entering a dark economic era where holding Bitcoin is a physical risk. Obi breaks down why privacy is the ultimate superpower to protect families from a wrench attack. When wealth is transparent on a public ledger, you become a target. By utilizing e-cash protocols, users regain the anonymity of physical cash while maintaining digital hardness. It is the shift from public target to private sovereign. The true innovation is happening within the circular economies of the Global South. From Bitcoin Beach to Nigeria, people use the lightning network to bypass failing banks. Obi explains these communities lack financial privilege. They need tools that work today, even with intermittent internet, proving utility is highest where the old world is broken.Fedimint miniaturizes exchange security for local communities. This model uses e-cash so guardians cannot see your balance or spending. It bridges the gap between the friction of self custody and the danger of centralized exchanges.Fedi integrates money and identity through open standards like NOSTR. This removes technical barriers, allowing the lightning network to act as global glue.
