POPULARITY
In this ep, I'll not be reviewing but rather plugging the show on CBS called 'After Midnight' that I watch on YouTube, obviously. It is the only night time talk show hosted by a woman on the American late-night scene and that woman is Taylor Tomlinson. This show is executive-produced by Stephen Colbert. Groucho's back with another half-hour of his unscripted program... You Bet Your Life.... Secret word is "Air" but don't tell anyone... it's a secret! More Groucho in the Playlist "Game Shows"
Don't tell anyone, but the secret word on this show is "Window"... Once again the amazing wit and sense of timing that Groucho Marx possessed is highlighted in this comedy game show. It is still seen on many cable tv stations that feature vintage tv shows.. This show lives in the "Game Show" Playlist.
Courtesy of the Armed Forces Radio Service... an episode of that daffy board of in-experts - Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell, and George Shelton (Photo front left to right). Their equally bright quizmaster was Tom Howard (Photo - standing). All of these veteran performers originally made their living in vaudeville... and brought their same jokes to radio and managed to conjure up some solid belly laughs during every show. CBS Friday night at 10 PM). The show ran for 9 years.. 1942 - 1951 and bounced from the Mutual to CBS, and finally to NBC typically as a summer replacement show. Sponsors were Phillip Morris Cigarettes, Chrysler and DeSoto Automobiles. This series lives in the "Game Shows" Playlist
Grouch has brought his comedy wit to another episode of "You Bet Your Life"... now you cannot tell anyone, but the secret word is "Ink"... Shhhhh! Analytics say that this is one of the most listened to show on this podcast... and you can still see re-runs of these show on cable TV... that is proof that good humor never gets old. More Groucho in the "Game Show" Playlist.
Shhhhhh... Secret word is "Spoon" Groucho Marx is back and he brought his amazing wit and sense of humor with him as he interviews the contestants without any script. The producers allowed him to go wherever the conversation would take him (within legal FCC bounds, of course!) The humor in these programs is as funny today as it was 73 years ago! Enjoy another episode of "You Bet Your Life" which is stored in the "Game Show" Playlist on this Podcast originating at Soundcloud.com
Groucho Marx is always fun to listen to because the producers of this show gave him the freedom on "NO SCRIPT" except for the questions he asks the contestants. Everything else was impromptu and no one could do it better than Groucho. His wit was unbelievable. Interviewing the guests was the starting point and their answers to his interview questions were the jumping off point for Groucho's remarks... who knew where it was going? Audiences loved the fact that the producers allowed Groucho to be Groucho and do what he did best... Oh... now don't tell anyone, but the secret word is "Smile" By the way, that will be very easy to do during this show. This and more like it are found in the "Game Shows" Playlist.
A Christmas time show from 1949 ... Shhhhh... The secret word is "Name"... Always fun to listen to because of the incredible wit and intelligence of Groucho Marx. Everything he does in this show, except reading the questions to the guests... is adlibbed. Groucho went with the flow of the interview... impromptu and witty comments had the audience in stitches. This show is still seen today on some of the cable TV networks... a tribute to Groucho Marx. This track stored in the "Game Show" Playlist.
It wasn't the questions that made this one of the most popular game shows on radio and television (still seen today)... it was the wit and humor of Groucho Marx. The show was not scripted... when it came to the interview portion of the contestants, Groucho was impromptu. His mind was incredible. He could take any topic and run with it, making the audience and the contestants laugh.... always fun to listen to...
According to statistics, many of you like Groucho Marx and "You Bet Your Life!"... so do I, so here is another episode and don't tell anyone, but the secret word is "Dress"... George Fenneman is the announcer. This track will be in the "Game Show" Playlist!
Critics have said that Groucho Marx was the wittiest comedian in the history of radio... he had to be in order to do a show like this. Unscripted except for the commercials, everything was adlibbed...impromptu and no one did it better than Groucho. The secret word is "Ink" ... but don't tell anyone because then it won't be a secret. Disregard the fact that announcer and straight man, George Fenneman spills the beans to the audience before the show starts. This track lives with all the other "You Bet Your Life" tracks in the Playlist "Game Shows" on this Soundcloud.com originating podcast.
A Comedy Game Show that almost did not get produced because of the title of the show... "It Pays To Be Ignorant"... it was thought to be insulting. Well it "insulted" listeners for 9 years! Not a bad run. Now Heirloom Radio is rebroadcasting a few of the episodes, so the "Insulting" continues....:) Cast: Lulu McConnell, George Shelton, Tom Howard (host) and Harry McNaughton. Show begins with the first question.. "What is a Bigamist?" This track will be in the "Game Show" Playlist on this Soundcloud.com podcast.
Another "You Bet Your Life" show with Groucho Marx and George Fenneman. This one is from Nov. 23, 1949 and .... shhhhhh the secret word is Sky! Sponsor is Elgin America... not DeSoto. This track will be in the "Game Show" Playlist... there are many more shows from this series in that list.
Don't tell anyone, but the secret word is "Book"... another episode of "You Bet Your Life" starring Groucho Marx and George Fenneman. This track will be stored in the playlist "Game Shows" on this Soundcloud.com podcast. Thank you for listening, It is much appreciated.
