Christian men are getting involved in politics more than ever before. Whether it was reading Stephen Wolfe's book or watching their mayor approve a pride parade that radicalized them, these men are realizing that pursuit of political office is a high calling. The founding fathers of America spoke highly of political office, considering it not merely a job or hobby, but a weighty responsibility. James Madison said the first aim of every political body should be to find men with the “most wisdom to discern and the most virtue to pursue the common good of the society.”But actually doing politics is not easy. If you've watched House of Cards or All The President's Men you actually have a pretty good idea of how cutthroat and ruthless politics can be. And here joining us today is Luis Canosa — a city council member right here in Irving, Texas. Since being elected a year ago he has been fighting tooth and nail against dark money, paid protestors, and even private investigators that all want to turn his hometown of Irving into the next tax farm for gambling and sports resorts. This episode is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Armored Republic and Reece Fund, as well as our Patreon members and donors. Megyn Kelly begins the show by discussing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard getting good news and most likely being confirmed soon, the absolute meltdown about it from the left, the corporate media, and some on the right, Trump's disruptor cabinet taking shape, and more. Then legal experts Dave Aronberg and Mike Davis join to discuss Trump's executive orders against DEI and whether they'll hold up in court, the difference between private companies and public universities when it comes to DEI enforcement, Trump's legal efforts to stop "gender surgeries" and “gender affirming care” for minors, Democrats in New York pushing back against it, the harmful long-term effects on children, the legality of Trump's push to end birthright citizenship, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy admitting he's harboring an illegal immigrant above his garage, his attempt to walk back the story now, why you shouldn't mess with Tom Homan and his team, and more. Then Sean Stone, director of "All The President's Men," joins to discuss why Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel are disruptors who are shaking up the political landscape, why this scares the establishment, the truth about the conspiracy against Trump during his first term, his life and upbringing as Oliver Stone's son, the JFK files release to come, and more.Aronberg- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZl9z2UMvN9mwpUoU9-E9bADavis- https://article3project.org/Stone- https://www.seanstone.info/Prize Picks: Download the Prize Pick app today and use code MEGYN to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup!Firecracker Farm: Get 10% off with code MK at https://Firecracker.Farm/ Follow The Megyn Kelly Show on all social platforms:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/MegynKellyTwitter: http://Twitter.com/MegynKellyShowInstagram: http://Instagram.com/MegynKellyShowFacebook: http://Facebook.com/MegynKellyShow Find out more information at: https://www.devilmaycaremedia.com/megynkellyshowTax Network USA: https://TNUSA.com/MEGYN
The 145th highest-grossing movie of the year, Dick was released on August 3rd and going on take 12th place at the box office. Through no fault of its own, it was thrown into a death slot, as the films that outgrossed it included juggernauts like The Phantom Menace, American Pie, Runaway Bride, The Blair Witch Project, and a little movie that opened at the same time and took #1, The Sixth Sense, Despite a generally warm and positive critical reception Dick would go on to make just 6.3 million dollars on a 13 million dollar budget. Which is a shame, because as part commentary on the Lewinski scandal and part parody of All The President's Men, Dick has more to say than your typical teen comedy. With two very talented stars at its core - Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams - It's more Election than American Pie, and portraying the Watergate conspirators as an insane, bumbling mess actually feels relevant. You know who loves Dick? Our guest, Alex Steed, who appeared on our episode for the 1999 movie that starred that other girl from Dawson's Creek, Go. Alex is on Bluesky @alexsteed
Feature: 1972 Munich Hostage Crisis broadcast gets revisited in ‘September 5,’ we discuss the film with its director. Movies centered on journalists have been somewhat of a trend over the years, with Spotlight and The Post serving as recent examples, and some older classics like All The President’s Men and The Insider. Writer-director Tim Fehlbaum’s latest project, September 5, looks to add to the tradition with a timely story of broadcast journalists attempting to cover an international incident in real-time. The film follows the 1972 Munich Olympics, with its inciting incident being 11 Israeli hostages held by Palestinian militants. It was coverage that was watched by roughly 900 million viewers, showing just how serious this event was. Hansjörg Weißbrich, the film’s editor, creates tension despite most of the film being set in one building; his work on the film has since been acknowledged by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, which awarded September 5 for its Best Editing category. For this week’s feature, we talk to filmmaker Tim Fehlbaum about the making of September 5 and the work it took to revisit a dark moment in history.
In one of his final acts as President, President Biden pardoned his son, Hunter Biden. Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Congressman James Comer discusses his new book, "All The President's Money." The book features an investigation into the Biden family's financial dealings. Chairman Comer also dives into Hunter's nefarious activity, allegedly laundering money from foreign sources and the various government agencies that schemed to cover it up. Two films that deal with dramatic endings to leaderships. One is about the scandal that brought down US president Richard Nixon, the other is about the events that lead to the dismissal of Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. One won four Oscars and the other three Logies. Yes, today we're looking at Alan Pakula's All The President's Men and Kennedy/ Miller's TV Series' The Dismissal.
In this week's episode of Time on Screen, Zach welcomes Danny Milton to the podcast to talk about a true American classic, All the President's Men. Danny is the VP of Content at Teddy Baldassarre, and is a longtime watch industry editor and writer, and a huge movie fan. Danny has written extensively about Robert Redford's personal Submariner worn in All the President's Men, so this was a natural choice for the episode. Danny and Zach dive deep into the movie and the incredible story behind it, and talk about what's so great about this style of 1970s paranoid thriller. Danny also tells us about his new project, Cinescaphe, his new project tying the film and watch worlds together. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. SERIES 3 EPISODE 21: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN ALL-TIME SERIES EPISODE 500 A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: "Follow the money," said Deep Throat about Watergate. Except he didn't.. My friend, the screenwriter of "All The President's Men," Bill Goldman - HE said it. Because they paid him to. The real "Deep Throat," Deputy FBI Director Mark Felt, never said anything like it. Goldman added he threw it in because it sounded more memorable. And it was. Now everybody remembers it as having happened, when it didn't. Which is kind of the point about what Mark Felt's institutional descendants at the Department of Justice did yesterday about Stooge-Gate: In their indictment of two Russian propagandists THEY never say the Tennessee company through which they funneled money into the American right wing echo chamber is called Tenet Media and THEY never say that Tenet Media was founded by Lauren Chen who also happens to work for Glenn Beck and Blaze-TV and THEY never say that Tenet Media's YouTube channel got ten million dollars from Putin's propaganda arm, R-T, to grow and distribute videos about how America started the Russian war in Ukraine, and how it was all Biden's fault, and vote Trump or die, and how America shouldn't get trapped in forever wars and how terrorists were coming into the country across the southern border. And they didn't say that through Tenet the Russians washed large sums of money to scumbags like Tim Pool, Benny Johnson, Dave Rubin, and others to unwittingly do Putin's work for him. Some of those folks say they're unwitting victims. I actually believe it. Because if there was an Unwitting Fantasy League, Jesse Watters would be my first choice but I'd certainly be satisfied if I could get Pool or Johnson or Rubin. My question is: Russia only had a handful of stooges here? I doubt that. TRUMP GOES SILENT ON ARLINGTON: Possibly after reading polling showing that his standing with veterans, active service members, and their families is vanishing - he's in a virtual dead heat with Vice President Harris among the families. AND THE RATS ARE LEAVING THE SINKING SHIP and boasting about it to Politico. Eighteen paragraphs about Republicans who are preparing a bunch of different songs to whistle past a bunch of different graveyards, but the lyrics are identical: we WANT Trump to lose, it's the GOP's only chance! B-Block (25:22) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Mark Robinson allegedly owed the porn guy money, and then his wife owed the Girl Scouts money! The "Tim Walz Family Hates Tim Walz" campaign falls flat when it turns out the terrible story his brother had to tell was about Tim barfing in the car as a kid. And on Joe Scarborough's show, Mike Barnicle asked the fitting question: how did the Republicans get here, nominating a lunatic Trump for a third time? The answer - in part anyway - IS Joe Scarborough. C-Block (42:37) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The NFL season opens tonight. Why not look back at the day I had to call in sick as co-host of NBC's "Football Night In America" because I had unknowingly blown out my appendix! Surprise!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's time for us to enter the breakout year in the career of Roy Scheider! And we kick things off with Scheider's small supporting role in Alan J. Pakula's beloved thriller KLUTE - a film that won Jane Fonda the Oscar for Best Actress and kicked off Pakula's unofficial "paranoia trilogy," alongside THE PARALLAX VIEW and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN.
This week, we revisit an episode that seems more relevant today than back when we released it in 2019. This film about the Watergate investigations has aged finer still over the past 5 years.. All The President's Men (1976), directed by Alan Pakula.
On this episode of Recommend or Refute, Dixon brings up All The President's Men (1976) and we lament the devolution of journalistic integrity. John talks pseudo-70s aesthetic with the David Dastmalchian led horror movie Late Night With The Devil (2023). And Ryan talks about his time sitting in a Sunday School of alternative biblical perspective with Satan's Guide to The Bible (2023). Could this episode have the controversial makings of an Afterthought-gate scandal?!
Activist and writer Nick Bryant is Greg Kelly's guest today. Bryant published Jeffrey Epstein's notorious "Black book" in 2015 and has dedicated much of his career to investigating human trafficking. In his latest effort, Bryant focuses his investigative journalism lens on the Watergate scandal. "You can't read other books on Watergate, you have to study them," Bryant tells Kelly. He endeavored to change that with his book, which distills the events down into a consumable and understandable narrative. Kelly calls it the "most readable" version of events ever published. That book, The Truth About Watergate: A Tale of Extraordinary Lies & Liars, is out now. This feature-length conversation covers everything from Bryant's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein to the truth about All The President's Men authors Woodward and Bernstein. The latter was uncovered during Bryant's 18 years of research for his 2024 book. Plus, Kelly gets his guest to define human trafficking, and discuss other instances of it in American politics, including the little-discussed case of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Fifty years ago saw the release of what ended up being one of the more iconic conspiracy thrillers of the 1970's even though it wasn't really a commercial hit upon initial release. Directed by Alan J. Pakula who would go on to direct the even more iconic All The President's Men a couple of years later, it stars Oscar-winning legend Warren Beatty as a journalist working for a small publication in the Pacific Northwest who inadvertently stumbles on a mysterious organization which might have been involved with the recent murder of a U.S. Senator. Once he finds his own life in danger as a result, he decides to attempt to infiltrate this organization and possibly even moonlight as a potential assassin himself to try to expose them and bring them down. And what results is a series of hair-raising situations which will test him in every conceivable way. ;o Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Over the past five decades, there have been several docudramas devoted to stories from The Nixon Era including films focusing on his presidency (Nixon), the investigation of the Watergate break-in (All The President's Men, Dick), and even smaller episodes WITHIN his presidency such as Elvis & Nixon which came out just a few years ago starring Michael Shannon as Elvis and Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon. But about 15 years ago, Ron Howard directed a somewhat unique POV of President Nixon.....the story of an independently filmed interview between Tricky Dick himself (Frank Langella) and a then somewhat well-known media personality David Frost who was played by Michael Sheen. This movie was also adapted by an acclaimed stage play written by Peter Morgan (The Crown) who would himself adapt his play for the big screen. And not only did it receive some awards attention (nominated for Best Picture) but considering its subject matter, it turned out to be quite entertaining! So it's time to revisit this often funny docudrama also co-starring Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, Matthew Macfayden, and Rebecca Hall and remember.....if the President does it, it's NOT ILLEGAL! ;) Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Newspapers and intrepid reporters are at the heart of hundreds of movies - think Citizen Kane, All The President's Men -and have always been a big part of American culture. But in recent decades, the rise of digital news has led to the steady decline of print. And while big papers like The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post still distribute print editions – small, local papers have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Add to that the consolidation of news outlets by big companies like Gannett and Alden Global Capital. Both companies have been buying regional newspapers, only to reduce the reporting staff, or completely dismantle an operation, focusing on turning a profit.Research has shown that when local newspapers are lost affected communities experience lower voter turnout, decreased civic engagement, and increased polarization.Host Adrian Florido speaks with Joshua Benton of the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University on the increasing number of news deserts. And we hear from journalist Ashley White about the difficulties of providing a Louisiana community with news and information at a newspaper undergoing drastic reductions.
On Today's Show "I go to the locations in the books when I can, and I go there and I scout them the same way I scouted them when I was shooting documentaries. I'll just kind of walk around the same way I did for years producing television to really figure out the best way to take advantage of a location." - James Ponti As a child, James Ponti was not a reader. Instead, he discovered an interest in storytelling through film. James' mother's own love for movies, coupled with her artistic career piqued his curiosity about the life of a creative. Throughout his 25 years of experience in visual media, James continued to master his understanding of storytelling techniques, characters, and worldbuilding. Additionally, location scouting for the screen would go on to inspire some of the backdrops for his most famous works.James' unique perspective from his start in visual storytelling allowed him to become the immersive, illustrative author that he is today. In this episode, James shares about movies that influenced him, how locations inspire his work, and his transition from movies and television to kidlit. As with all episodes, our author guest creates a unique reading challenge that is available on Beanstack and also at thereadingculturepod.com/james-ponti.
