In this episode, Andy and Jessica are sharing stories that reflect what to watch out for in a deal — those situations that you wish you are not involved in when closing a deal. Transworld Business advisors have a lot of “war stories” during the 40 years in assisting the sale of thousands of businesses. If mistakes are made when selling a business, its value can drastically be affected and even the ability to sell it at all. Legal agreements and laws protect people during transactions but their reach goes to a certain extent; there are major issues that can't be solved in court and will be addressed in this episode. Listing of the week: Diane Warsoff (Utah County). Turn-Key High-End Catering Business in business for over 30 years. One of the largest on-site kitchens. Price: $1.45 million. Annual receipts: $6.3 million. SDE: $255,000. Contact Diane at 801-753-5655 or email utahcounty@tworld.com. Key takeaways: [2:11] You should not tell your employees before the sale is closed. [4:06] Don't bring the buyer into the business before the deal is closed. [7:44] Sometimes small deals bring more problems. [8:07] Accepting the highest-priced offer is not always the best choice. [8:43] Look at the deal holistically. [12:17] Don't tell your vendors and suppliers upfront before the sale is done. [14:17] Don't kick your advisors and brokers out of the deal. [18:34] Al Fialkovich (Rocky Mountains). [19:14] Al Fialkovich shares a case of a deal that went wrong. [23:26] Deal of the week: Patrick Bombardiere (Rocky Mountains). Diane says hemp oil has been a “game-changer,” as she and her son added this to their daily health regimen. Her son was diagnosed with Aspergers/High Functioning Autism at age 7 but had been dealing with the neurological differences as early as 3 1/2 years old. The behaviors that presented due to being on the spectrum were over stimulation, impulse control, noise sensitivity, light sensitivity, sensitivity to touch, social interaction issues, etc. Prior to hemp oil, everyday activities brought high anxiety for Diane with sometimes feeling that she was not fully present or quick to react when dealing with challenging situations with her son's Aspergers. After starting to use Hemp Oil with CBD she could see her life begin to slow down as she became more in control of her reactions to specific situations.Diane says that her son's relationships with her and others began to grow due to the ability to slow down his reactions and calmly respond to people. His working habits at school were progressing rapidly, his writing became neat, orderly, and more complex. So many aspects of their lives just got better! As Diane explains, “We have just become much better people due to taking Hemp Oil daily.”Listen to their inspiring story. #aspergers #autism #anxiety #hempoil #CBD #CBG #myhealthonhemp #mystory #hempforhealth*MHOH does not express the views of any specific hemp product company and regardless of the health issues we talk about in each episode, and sometimes we talk about disease states, we are not making medical claims regarding curing, diagnosing, or treating diseases. Everyone has encountered the elephant in the room, that obvious problem, or risk, that nobody wants to talk about. It creates awkward situations and sometimes paralysis. Join host Hanna Hasl-Kelchner as she welcomes communications expert Diane A. Ross, who has a solution for how to conquer the beast and restore harmony and productivity to your business. WHAT YOU'LL DISCOVER ABOUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: The most important question you need to ask yourself about the elephant in the room. The message you send when you don't address the elephant in the room. What to do when the elephant in the room is embedded in the business culture. The biggest drawback of waiting too long to address the elephant in the room. Sample conversations for addressing chronic lateness, jokes that aren't funny, and interrupters. 3 essential keys to preparing for a successful conversation. And much MORE. GUEST:Diane A. Ross teaches entrepreneurs and professionals how to tackle difficult conversations fearlessly. After a 14 year career as a litigation lawyer, she learned that the guns-blazing communication style that won cases in the court was damaging the relationships in the rest of her life. That realization led her on a 10 year journey to uncover the secrets of effective communication in times of conflict. She brought her lawyer's zealousness to the process and devoured the research on the topic, trained in Advanced Negotiation and Mediation at Harvard Law School, became a Certified Executive Coach and, in 2012, started http://elephantconversations.com (Elephant Conversations) to bring her system for tackling difficult conversations to the world because she believes that each one of us could be one conversation away from having ANYTHING WE WANT. In this episode Diane Randall talks to Lanada Williams about mental health and lifting the stigma in the workplace. They investigate the feedback cycle between stress and depression and how to break free and find help. 1 in 5 Americans will experience mental health problems at some point in their lives and depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide so Lanada details some of the ways you can talk about mental illness without stigmatizing language to open up the discussion. Lanada is a National Certified Counselor and explains some of the coping tools she employs to protect your boundaries and check in with how you're feeling. Diane shares a personal story about being physically affected by anxiety and Lanada explains that mental health symptoms can often affect your physical body so you should always listen to your gut and trust your intuition. Lanada Williams is a Licensed Psychotherapist, Entrepreneur and Author and host of The Lanada Williams Show. She has been featured in the Huffington Post, Forbes and on the Dr Oz show, she is a solution based therapist who aims to help her patients realize that mental health isn't a lifelong problem and can be treated like any other condition. What you will learn: A disease is a separation from the normal with physical symptoms, but a condition is an internal feeling, for example feeling weak, discomfort or fatigue. People are not their illness; it’s just something they have at that time. Anxiety is a mental health illness that's severely under diagnosed. Stress is a normal part of life; it becomes a problem when you can't move forward from your stressors. It’s hard to pinpoint a single cause of depression; it can be a combination of genes, stress or your surroundings. Medication isn't the first step in treatment for depression. 1 in 3 women experience heart disease due to stress. There are several different types of depression including; major and chronic. Trust your body, if it physically stops this is an indicator of what your mind has told you repeatedly. If you ignore what your gut is telling you, you will lose that intuition. You're not alone; there is support to be found online, in groups or on podcasts. If you're in a hostile non-supportive workplace talk to HR about an in-work counseling service. Honor what's valuable to you, for example make YOU and your family a priority and schedule them in. Contact Lanada: http://blis.fm/lanadawilliams/ http://www.lanadawilliams.com/ Quotes: Burnout is the number 1 indicator that depressions is on it's way Your job will still be there and life will go on You are un-replaceable Contact Diane: feedback@dianerandallconsults.com Website: http://www.dianerandallconsults.com Let us know what you think about this episode by leaving a voice mail or comment: http://www.balanced-living-for-busy-professionals.com
Today Diane interviews Susie Miller to discuss improving relationships from “boardroom to bedroom” and how to make time in your day for the people you love. Susie explains her PROFIT method for helping busy professionals work on their relationships while still striving in their career. Susie draws on personal experience to give her advice and Diane discusses her own particular interest in this topic relating to her past. Diane and Susie also examine ways you can ask the people around you for help by highlighting the time when they value your company the most. The advice in this episode is particularly for Type A personalities who might need to be reminded that the most important relationship is the one with themselves; looking after yourself helps to sustain your other relationships. Susie is a professional counselor who moved into life coaching after a sudden illness made her re-evaluate the levels of stress in her career. She has clients all over the world and published her first book in 2015, the second book is expected in early-2016. What you will learn: Susie Miller has a Masters degree in counseling and now works as a Life and Relationship Coach. To maximize your relationships you need to recognize the value they have in every area of life. You need to work on relationships now, and not “when I get to X” in your career. The PROFIT method is an acronym covering ways to work on your relationships while still striving in your career; P – Priorities, invest your time intentionally R – Reconnect, rekindle your relationships O – Open-up, don’t bottle those feelings F – Focus, there’s no such thing as multitasking in your relationships I – Intentional Interactions, set your alarm to not miss important events T – Tenacity, you can’t fix everything immediately It’s not about the amount of time you spend with someone, but the amount of presence you bring. Treat your relationships like a garden; without nurturing they will wither. Build margins into your day so you’re ready to engage when you get home. Take one step at a time, huge change through small steps. You need to look after yourself to sustain relationships. Quotes: Sometimes relationships take the backseat to the busyness of life It’s not about the same amount of time, but the same amount of presence. These relationships are the “why” behind what we’re doing. You need nose-to-nose time.
