Ready to up your game in life, love, or business? This episode is your VIP ticket! Episode Highlights: Winners don't sit around complaining. They handle it, find solutions, and move on. Winners know excuses get you nowhere—own up, learn, and do better next time. Life's not happening to you—it's happening because of you. Winners take the reins and steer their own ship. Who cares if people don't validate you? Winners know they're already enough, no outside approval required. Entitlement? Please. Today we are talking about Step 3 to help you manifest your desire to get things done, which is to make it real. After you have begun the visualization process, try to make it so real to yourself that it almost feels like you have ALREADY accomplished it. In your mind, you should already have overcome the obstacles. All that is now required is for you to put in the time. REALLY make it feel like you are already done before you even start. This will prepare your mind and take you to a place of better concentration. Tune in tomorrow for Step 4 to help you manifest your desire to get things done. Today we are talking about Step 2 to help you manifest your desire to get things done, which is to visualize your work completed. Really think about how it will feel to get your work done at the end of each day. Visualize it in your mind. Think about what your to-do list will look like with everything checked off, what your calendar will look like when you have more days open to do what you want, and how it will feel at the end of the day to get so much more accomplished than you have before. Take your time, and spend a few minutes doing this right now. Identify barriers, and break them down one at a time until there is nothing standing between you and complete belief in what you desire. There are plenty of hours, but you probably feel like concentrating long enough to get most of your work done is almost impossible. This might get you down, cause you problems, and end up derailing your attempts to further yourself beyond your current level of success. So, can manifestation help a problem like this? Actually, I believe it can. Manifesting your desire to get more done is actually VERY doable… you just have to go through the process from beginning to end. Over the next 4 days we are going to explore 4 steps to help you manifest your desire to get things done, so tune in tomorrow for Step 1. If you have ever heard of manifesting, then you probably know, at least in part, where this conversation is headed… but for those of you who might not be as familiar with the concept, let me take a moment to explain. Manifestation is basically the belief that if you visualize and believe something enough, it will come to pass. There are a lot of varying beliefs about manifestation, and many people claim that it works in many different ways. Some believe that it is an almost spiritual, mystical phenomenon, while others tend to believe that any basis for it being true lies within the human mind. More people probably believe that if you believe in something enough, you will not be inhibited as you strive to achieve it… which is what actually ends up winning in the end. Let's approach manifestation from a position of pure logic. Logically, you ARE able to manifest things by visualizing and believing in them. This will enable you to break down self-imposed barriers and to give yourself the freedom that you need to pursue your goals without inhibitions. Once you acquire the ability to ‘live' your success before it is physically in place, you will have realized what it truly means to ‘manifest' the next level of success for yourself. Today we are talking about Tip #5 of the 5 tips for helping you have a “winning” attitude, which is to live victoriously. Living life as if you already know that your next endeavor will be a success is EXACTLY what it looks like to embody a ‘winning' attitude. Consider yourself a winner before the project even starts! Never assume that you are going to fail. If failure does come, realize that you have not lost… you have just realized one way that your plan didn't work. It's okay to occasionally have a five minute 'pity party' and then put your big girl/boy pants on and move on. Trial and error is part of winning, so NEVER feel like you do not have what it takes to go to the next level. Live like you are a winner, every single day… and it will definitely show. Having a winning attitude is essential, even though very few people have mastered the art. To do this, you need to have… · Passion for what you are doing· A strong belief in yourself and your abilities· A strategy that you believe in· Values that are clearly defined · A mastery over your outlook Once you have mastered the art of maintaining a ‘winning attitude', day in and day out, you will begin to realize that the only boundaries imposed upon you are those that you impose upon yourself. In a lot of ways, becoming more successful is not about being lucky or fortunate… it is about taking the circumstances that you are in and turning them into opportunities. Today we are talking about Tip #4 for helping you have a “winning” attitude, which is to remind yourself that ANYTHING is possible. It can be easy to feel like you are not capable of accomplishing difficult or mountainous feats… but you will soon realize that the only thing separating you from victory is a winning attitude! Simple logic tells us that if you continue to try without giving up, you truly can accomplish ANYTHING! We sometimes feel like we can only do so much, or that we are only capable of doing certain things. Limiting yourself by not having the drive to continue to try, despite failure, will hold you back more than anyone else possibly could. Today we are talking about Tip #3 for helping you have a “winning” attitude, which is to listen to motivational speakers. Believe it or not, there are some very powerful motivational speakers out there who can really help you to see the good in things going on around you. Two of my favorite speakers is Zig Ziglar and Jim Rohn, but there are a lot of others that can be very helpful to listen to. Listening to a good motivational speaker can help to fill your mind with positive thoughts, and can help you to see reasons for believing in yourself that you might not notice on your own. Today we are talking about Tip #2 for helping you have a “winning” attitude, which is to give yourself daily pep talks. Sometimes, the strongest positive voice is your own! Take some time each day to look into the mirror and to give yourself a pep talk. Tell yourself that you can do anything that you set your mind to, and remind yourself not to give up. Some people have affirmations they say out loud every day and that makes a big difference for how they start and finish their day. It might sound a bit cheesy, but building confidence and a winning attitude is going to require you to BELIEVE in yourself… and one of the best ways to accomplish this is to speak it out loud! Having a winning attitude is essential to being successful. Theodore Roosevelt once said ‘Believe YOU CAN and you are half way there'. A lot of times, we end up defeating ourselves before we begin by having a negative outlook on what is going on. We sometimes tend to look at opportunities and only see roadblocks, or see only a glass that is ‘half empty' as opposed to ‘half full'. Having a ‘winning attitude' is all about how we view the world around us. It can be very easy to only see problems when we face hard times and new challenges, and yet the most successful people in the world have always shown that outlook plays a huge part in how successful you are. So how can you have a winning attitude, even in the face of adversity? Well, over the next 5 days we will be exploring 5 tips that might help point you in the right direction. Following 5 these tips will get you well on your way to defeating that negative frame of mind that threatens to dampen your spirits and discourage you when times get tough. Today we are talking about idea #7 of the 7 ideas for how to engage and motivate your staff, which is to Create a Stimulating Environment. It's okay to have a little fun once in a while. You will find that 30 minutes once a week engaged in some sort of competitive game, competition or quiz will repay itself 10-fold in productivity by increasing employees' self-worth and therefore their motivation. Schedule games for the end of the day, so your staff can leave the office with a renewed sense of well-being. Another alternative could be “casual dress Fridays” or the opportunity to leave work 15 minutes early thrown in from time to time. Add any or all of these 7 ideas that we have explored over the past 7 days into your business to help you increase the motivation of your staff, so you can experience even better results from each one of them. They will appreciate you thinking enough of them and their abilities to implement these in your organization. Today we are talking about idea #5 for how to engage and motivate your staff, which is to Communicate Openly and Honestly. Staff who are kept “in the loop” are more likely to remain motivated than those who have no idea what is going on. A great leader and manager always maintains open channels of communication, so his or her staff feels comfortable about discussing any relevant issues. Inappropriate behavioral practices as well as the need for conflict resolution can be kept to a minimum if managers maintain an open-door policy. Your business is scaling, which is fantastic! It means that your business is successful and growing, as is your team. And it's more important now than ever to preserve your company's culture, or what made it so great in the first place. A symptom of rapid expansion can be feeling like the spirit of the company is not the same as it once was. With more people joining your team, they can have an impact on the overall culture of the company. More individual personalities means more voices, and the core set of values that you once established may be lost among the noise. Scaling your business doesn't mean you need to choose between success and a strong company culture—in fact, if your culture is well-defined, many of your new hires will echo those values and uphold them as they help you grow your business. Let's explore four ways to preserve your company culture as your team continues to grow and you scale your business. How much of your company culture you preserve as you scale depends on how much you care about it. Preserve your company culture as you scale by being an example of your company values, hiring to fit company culture, and adapting as the company grows while maintaining the core of who your business is. Today we are talking about idea #2 for how to engage and motivate your staff, which is to Share the Vision you have for your firm's growth. Employees are seen to be more motivated when they believe their contribution is making an impact on the overall success of the organization. Today we are talking about idea #1 for how to engage and motivate your staff, which is to Reward Immediately and Frequently. In a study, one of the primary influences that affected the motivation of employees was recognition and reward. It was shown that small rewards offered frequently and as soon as possible after the performance had the most impact. So, the gift of two tickets to the cinema was more rewarding than the promise of a promotion at some indeterminate time in the future. Conversely, inappropriate or incorrect behavior must be noted as soon as it becomes evident. While it was noted, rewards are seen as more motivational when given in the presence of other team members, bringing a staff member to account for an oversight or error is best performed in private. As a leader it is important to check for improvement in a timely manner and compliment employees if a positive change is evident. Otherwise, staff may be left wondering why they should bother if changes are not acknowledged. Tune in tomorrow for Idea #2 for how to engage and motivate your staff. Sarah gets to work at the same time every day. She sits down at her desk and starts doodling on her desk pad, playing computer games, surfing the internet, or texting friends. Unless she is interrupted by a phone call or correspondence that requires her urgent attention, you know she will spend the bulk of her day doodling on her note pad, playing computer games, surfing the internet, or texting friends. So why is it that the only thing that appears to motivate Sarah is the clock ticking over during the last 15 minutes of her office day? Sarah is not unlike hundreds of thousands of other employees. She is, or has become, one of the “unmotivated masses”. Luckily, the success of your organization isn't dependent on the singular input of employees like Sarah, but what needs to happen to generate a positive and motivational environment for all your employees (virtual or in house), Sarah included? As a business leader, the most important lesson you can learn about motivating staff is that what motivates you may not necessarily motivate Sarah or any of the other employees you are responsible for. Motivation means different things to different people. As a leader and manager, it is an integral part of your role to observe and learn what inspires and motivates each and every member of your team. Today we are talking about change number 5 that you can do to increase your success, which is to Set and Update Your Goals. Since you have already achieved success in your own right, you doubtlessly know the importance of effective goal setting. You also need to remember that it can be easy to grow lax in this area after you have made your first $100,000 or even 500,000. You are no longer fighting to pay your rent or to put food on the table, which can cause you to forget to update your goals and create a game plan to achieve them. Make sure that your goals are current, and that you are actively pursuing them. Realizing that you want to go to your next level is one thing… making the necessary changes and setting believable stretch goals is another. By doing this, you will start your success process all over again. Once you achieve THESE stretch goals, you will be at a place that is even better than where you are now. How great will that be? --Michael Korda, British novelist said: “One way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals." Today we are talking about change number 3 that you can do to increase your success, which is to Have a Positive Outlook. Speaking of encouragement and positivity, having a positive outlook on your situation can be a great way to invite further success for you and your business. Being negative and looking down on yourself or on how things are going can drastically affect your performance, which is why making a conscious choice to be more positive is essential to getting to your next level of success. If you ever want to move forward and realize your true, fullest potential, you are going to have to find a way within yourself to become a truly positive individual. I believe you can still have your occasional five-minute 'pity party' and then move onward and upward. – Larry Hargraves said: "You can't always change your situation, but you can always change your attitude." Today we are talking about change number 2 that you can do to increase your success, which is to Spend More Time with People Who Are More Successful Than Yourself. This is a great habit for anyone looking to get to their next level. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘birds of a feather flock together'? Well, as it turns out, this phrase is not only true of birds, but also of successful people! You will almost never see super-successful people hanging out with negative, unsuccessful people… which is exactly why this is a habit that you should adopt. Spending more time with people who are more successful than you, will help you to see the bigger picture, and will help you to realize that you CAN accomplish anything you put your mind to, as long as you surround yourself with encouragement and positivity. Today we are talking about change number 1 that you can do to increase your success, which is to Cut Out Distractions. Distractions come in many sizes, shapes, and forms… but all of them have one thing in common. In short, they waste the most valuable commodity that you will ever possess: time. Your time is everything. You only have so much of it every day, and what you do with it directly impacts how successful you become… which is exactly why cutting out distractions is going to make a HUGE difference for you down the road. Isolating your distractions might seem challenging, but you can usually find them by asking yourself this question… What are the biggest wastes of time in my life? By answering this question truthfully, you will usually arrive at the biggest distractions that you face on a day to day basis. Figuring out what distracts you the most can help you to avoid it during the day, which can add up to more hours for you at the end of the week! This is time that you can spend directly investing yourself into greater future success! – Mark Victor Hansen said: "Focused mind power is one of the strongest forces on earth." Today we are going to talk about step #5 of the 5 steps you can take right away to get you closer to achieving your goals, which is to Track Your Progress. It's easier to be persistent when you can see how far you've come. Track your progress and achievements, so you can see how much closer you're getting with every step forward. The road to success isn't always easy - but it isn't always hard either. There may be times when you have to talk yourself through periods of self-doubt, and there will definitely be times when you defy the odds. Never, never give up because there is always a way to achieve your goals and experience the life and business you truly desire. Every action of every day between now and your goal achievement counts. Take action, bring your best, find solutions to your obstacles, and say “Next!” to your rejections. Feel good about how far you've come and be persistent until you achieve your goals! – Daniel Webster said: "There is always room at the top." Implement all or some of the 5 steps we have discussed over the past 5 days, so that you accelerate the achievement of your goals – personal and professional. In my opinion, Persistence Does Pay Off! Let me know how else I can help you on your goal achievement journey, so you can enjoy your ideal business and ideal life. Don't take rejections personally; they are nothing more than the natural process of weeding out the sub-prime opportunities. You're on the road to success and want to put your energies toward something that will be ideal for all parties involved - including you. The right opportunity will be met with an enthusiastic “Yes"! Today we are talking about step #3 that you can take right away to get you closer to achieving your goals, which is to Remain Objective About Your Obstacles. Don't get emotional about the obstacles in front of you. Remember, there is always a way, and your success is inevitable. You just have to figure out how to move over, around, or under your challenges. At one point, JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series was on welfare and so broke that she wrote her story on pub napkins. She could have easily given up on writing, but she was persistent in her passion. She finished the first Harry Potter novel, found a literary agent and went to work marketing her book. Today, she is one of the wealthiest women in the world, with a net worth of about $1 billion dollars. Tune in tomorrow for Step #4 to help you get closer to achieving your goals. Persistence is sort of like a ‘magic word' when it comes to success. Persistence is basically the repetition or continuation of behavior, and it is an absolutely essential part of business. As a successful business owner, you no doubt have at least a pretty good idea of what it takes to be persistent, though it never hurts to revisit a subject that is very important. The whole idea of persistence revolves around the fact that motivation has a tendency to wax and wane a bit as time goes by. Persistence is a behavior that can be learned, and it is also a behavior which will render this troublesome waxing and waning of your motivation harmless in the long run, which is why it is so instrumental to expanding your current level of success. However, since persistence is an attribute of longevity, it can take some strength of mind and some psychological fortitude to really believe in it enough to make a commitment to practice it day after day. Now, we are going to discuss 4 steps to building persistent behavior. Following these steps will help you with the process of more consistently being a persistent person so you can experience even better results. Every day, remind yourself that persistence is an absolute necessity. Without it, any business will flounder and possibly even fail. If you find yourself lacking persistence, then keep taking each of these four steps, one at a time. Taking a proactive approach to solving this problem is by far the best way to deal with it, and these steps forward are a perfect way to get started! I'm the author of many books, including, Excuses Don't Count; Results Rule, Live Life with No Regrets, No Excuses, The Guide to Stopping Procrastination, The Power of Visualization, My Gratitude Journal, the Work Life Balance Emergency Kit, and The Roadmap To Success with Stephen Covey and Ken Blanchard, and more. Today we are talking about step #2 that you can take right away to get you closer to achieving your goals, which is to Keep Showing Up. If you believe in what you're doing, just keep showing up. You never know when your breakthrough opportunity will appear, so bring your best to every situation. When the right opportunity appears, you'll be ready! Did you know that Allyson Felix made it to the Olympics in just over one year. With an intense training schedule of five to six hours per day, her persistence paid off. By the end of her training season in 2003, she had broken many records, including one set by Olympic Gold Medalist, Marion Jones. At the 2004 Olympics, she won the Silver Medal by running a 22.18 in the 200-meter race. Amazingly, she did all of this while being a high-school senior and a freshman college student. She is a great example of someone who kept showing up every day, so she could realize her dreams. Tune in tomorrow for Step #3 to help you get closer to achieving your goals. Today we are talking about step #1 that you can take right away to get you closer to achieving your goals, which is to Take Measurable Actions - Every Day! Persistence takes action. Take at least 3 actions every day that support your goal achievement. If you need funding for your venture, then get on the phone and find an investor. If you want to lose weight, then eat well and exercise. If you want a new job, then take steps to make yourself a prime job candidate for the right company. Consistent action and persistence pays off. Tune in tomorrow for Step #2 to help you get closer to achieving your goals. Persistence is to success as excuses are to failure. Never, never give up - there is always a way. If you want more, you WILL find a way, because there always IS a way. With persistence and consistent action you WILL make it happen. If you don't believe me, here are some examples. Did you know that Thomas Edison had over 10,000 failed attempts to create the light bulb before he was successful? His persistence was as valuable as his invention. 10,000 failed attempts and look what he created! Even if you're not out to change the world, what could you create with an unresolved persistence? You've probably heard of Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, and their best-selling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul. Did you know they marketed the original books to over 130 publishers, over a two-year period before a struggling publisher agreed to publish it. That's two years of phone calls, foot-peddling and persistence that started a best-selling book series. The authors knew the value of the book, it came down to making it known to the right publisher. Once the publisher saw the value, they knew what the benefits would be. Their first book went on to sell 8 million copies in 39 languages. And to date, the series has sold more than 100 million copies in over 45 languages. There are thousands of examples of ordinary people achieving extraordinary goals; these are just a few examples of how persistence paid off. Achieving your goals requires you to take consistent action, be persistent, and maintain a resolve to simply not give up. Over the next 5 days we will explore 5 steps you can take right away to get you closer to achieving your goals, so tune in tomorrow for Step #1. What got you to where you are today probably isn't going to be what takes you where you ultimately want to go. Your thoughts, actions, and activities have to change to move you closer to your goals. You might be surprised to discover that getting where you want to be might not require as much change as you fear. Remember: all results come from having the discipline to follow through and not procrastinate. Just because you are willing to do something doesn't mean you will. Do you want to achieve your goals and dreams badly enough to do what is required to reach them? If so, what will you do differently, better, or not do in order to reshape your thoughts, activities, and actions to move you closer to the achievement of your goals and within the timeframe you set? Progress requires change, so we must develop change strategies that reduce our resistance and allow us to view change with a positive and constructive attitude. Although the majority of us initially react to change with feelings of anxiety and disorientation, most of us are able, over time, to respond with a more favorable and positive mindset. After all, 9 times out of 10, change brings about new opportunities to improve your position, your wellbeing, your environment, and your circumstances. Occasionally change is precipitated by destructive, stressful circumstances like divorce, death, or natural disasters. When a catastrophic change occurs, most people require time and support to enable them to deal with the grieving process before they can adapt to the new changes that have been thrust upon them. But like our response to grief, our response to change varies, depending on our inherent qualities and attitudes. So, what coping mechanisms can we put in place to ensure we embrace change with a positive attitude and a sense of excitement in the possibilities? Over the next 5 days we will review 5 Strategies for Managing Personal Change, so, tune in tomorrow for Strategy #1. Today we are talking about a checklist of five items to consider when you want to be an even more effective communicator.1. Are you giving the listener what he or she wants and needs? If someone asks you a question, do you give a full and complete answer or is the asker left with more questions? 2. Are you a problem solver for the person you're talking with? If someone comes to you for an answer to a problem, be the problem-solver, or point that person in the direction of the person who is better-suited to answer their question. 3. Be mindful of the way in which you're speaking to others. Don't holler. Don't stand too close. Don't berate the speaker for his or her views if they differ from your own.4. Be emotionally intelligent. Emotional intelligence is the way in which you “read the vibe of the room.” Be aware of how others are feeling and reacting to what you and others are saying. If you feel emotions rising, do what you can to defuse the situation and more effectively communicate. 5. Listening is key to be an effective communicator. Don't let your thoughts wander when you're speaking with someone. Be in the moment and give that person your undivided attention. Are you a good listener? Are you an effective communicator? Do you believe your communication skills are furthering, or hurting your business endeavors? What will you integrate into your communication to enhance it, from this day forward? Now implement! Today we are talking about tip #6 on how to improve your communication skills which is to Look at every business communication as a way to build relationships. Every interaction in the business world is an opportunity to strengthen relationships, whether it's with colleagues, clients, or stakeholders. By approaching communication with the intent to connect and add value, you create a foundation of trust and mutual respect that can lead to long-term partnerships and even greater success. This mindset transforms routine exchanges into meaningful interactions, fostering a network of supportive and collaborative relationships. Off-color jokes and misinformation will not build relationships, and it might even cause the listener to put up mental barriers that will prevent him or her from truly listening to the rest of your conversation.
