Welcome to In the Word with Malcolm Webber! In John 4, Jesus tells the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” This Gift is the core of the Christian life, our purpose, our everything, our meaning. We all face moments when discouragement creeps in — when our hearts feel heavy and hope seems distant. Whether it’s physical pain, emotional weariness, or the quiet ache of unmet expectations, we all need encouragement. In this heartfelt reflection, Keri Eichberger shares how, in the middle of her own discouragement, God sent comfort in an unexpected way — through a conversation with a friend who needed encouragement herself. Proverbs 12:25 reminds us that “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” A single word of kindness has the power to lift not just another person’s spirit, but our own. God designed encouragement to work both ways — when we bless others, we, too, are blessed. When we cheer someone else up, we often find our own hearts restored in the process. If you’re in need of encouragement today, start by turning to the ultimate Encourager — the Lord, who sees you, loves you, and hears your cries. Then, look for opportunities to lift someone else. A kind word, a thoughtful text, or a prayer for another can become the very means through which God refreshes your spirit. Encouragement flows both ways: we receive it when we give it. That’s the beautiful cycle of God’s grace at work through His people. Today's Bible Reading:“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” – Proverbs 12:25

We want to hear from you! Submit your Thanksgiving Prayer or a short note of thanks! Your submissions could be featured on Your Daily Prayer as we lead up to Thanksgiving Day. Thank you again for your continued support—we can’t wait to hear from you! https://tinyurl.com/322k4xau There are times in our walk with God when His presence feels near — when prayer flows easily, Scripture feels alive, and worship fills our hearts with joy. But, as our daily prayer and devotional remind us, then come the harder seasons — the dry, weary days when God seems silent, and our hearts ache with loneliness. In today’s reflection, Sophia Bricker reminds us that even when God feels far away, His presence has never left us. Scripture gives voice to this struggle through the psalmists, Job, Jeremiah, and even Jesus Himself, who cried out, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1; Matthew 27:46). These moments of spiritual dryness are not signs of abandonment — they are invitations to deeper faith. When we face sorrow, sin, or suffering, we may feel distant from God, but faith reminds us that He remains close — “a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). The Lord has promised to be with us always, even to the end of the age. His love does not depend on our emotions; it is steadfast, eternal, and unchanging. When God feels far, hold fast to what is true: He is near, and He will never leave you. Bible Reading:“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20, NIV Takeaway Truths: Feeling distant from God doesn’t mean He has left us — His presence is constant. Spiritual dryness is often an invitation to grow deeper in faith. God’s promises are greater than our emotions; His love never changes.

Fear is one of the most powerful emotions we face—especially when it comes to death and loss. In this honest daily prayer and devotional, Vivian Bricker shares her journey of learning to trust God after losing her mother and struggling with the deep, ongoing fear of death. Her words remind us that while death is an unavoidable part of life, we don’t face it alone. Through the promise of Isaiah 41:10, God calls us to release our fear and hold fast to His strength. He promises His presence, His help, and His upholding hand. When grief grips our hearts or anxiety clouds our thoughts, we can find comfort knowing that Jesus is with us—in life, in death, and forevermore. This episode encourages us to surrender our fears to the One who conquered death and to rest in the hope of eternal reunion with those we love. Today's Bible Reading:“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
A listener had a question... and it isn't the first time I've heard it. How DO you save your marriage when you feel hate for your spouse? That does seem impossible to get beyond, doesn't it? I have some news for you: many people (if not MOST) who are working on saving their marriage are NOT having warm and fuzzy feelings for their spouse. In fact, they are likely to be just as hurt, just as frustrated, and just as unsure as their spouse. But there is a difference: They think that working on their marriage... even when feeling upset and hurt, is important. Important enough to choose to act in spite of those feelings. You may be thinking, "Wait, I can't act differently than I am feeling!" But with just a little reflection, most people realize they do it every single day. "Not feeling it," but still going to work. Upset about your finances, but still paying the bills. Angry about something, but not taking it out on someone. See what I mean? We all do that all the time. Why? Because something is important enough to not just react to our emotions. I discuss it in this week's Save The Marriage Podcast. Listen below. For many, autumn is a season of beauty—colorful leaves, crisp air, and cozy traditions. But as our daily prayer and devotional remind us, for others, the season can reopen deep wounds of grief. Losing a loved one during this time can make every falling leaf feel like a reminder of what has been lost. Grief is not something to hide or feel ashamed of—it is the natural expression of love for someone who is no longer here. Jesus’ words in the Beatitudes assure us that those who mourn are not abandoned in their pain. Instead, God promises His presence and comfort in the midst of sorrow. The Lord draws near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3) and faithfully carries us when grief feels unbearable. Over time, He not only comforts us but also equips us to comfort others in their mourning (2 Corinthians 1:3-5). In this way, even our deepest pain can become a vessel of compassion and encouragement. If autumn carries grief for you, know that you are not alone. God’s light still shines through the darkness, and His presence offers hope and healing—even in the hardest seasons. Today's Bible Verse: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4 (NIV) Key Takeaways Grief is a natural and holy expression of love—it is nothing to be ashamed of. God promises to comfort those who mourn (Matthew 5:4). The Lord draws close to the brokenhearted and heals our wounds (Psalm 147:3). Our own grief can equip us to extend comfort and empathy to others in pain. Let’s Pray Together Dear Jesus, autumn feels full of grief this year. Please help me to accept my sorrow as a reflection of love and not push it away. Surround me with Your comfort, fill my heart with Your hope, and help me to see glimpses of beauty even in my pain. Use my story to encourage others walking through grief, and remind me that You are always near. Amen. Decision-making can feel overwhelming. In our daily prayer and devotional, we remember that we often turn to friends, family, or even the internet for guidance—only to end up with conflicting opinions that leave us even more uncertain. While seeking advice can be valuable, Scripture reminds us that we already have access to the best Counselor of all—the Holy Spirit. When Jesus promised the gift of the Spirit, He assured us that believers would never walk alone. The Spirit of truth lives within us, guiding, comforting, and directing our steps. This doesn’t mean every decision will suddenly feel easy, but it does mean we can trust that God will faithfully lead us in the way we should go. As children of God, we don’t have to rely solely on human wisdom. We can lean on the Spirit’s promptings, rest in His peace, and trust that He will never steer us wrong. When we feel paralyzed by uncertainty, let us pause, pray, and remember that the Spirit of God lives in us—ready to counsel us at every crossroads. Today's Bible Reading: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you." – John 14:16-17 (NIV) Key Takeaways God has given us the Holy Spirit as our eternal counselor and guide. Seeking human advice can be helpful, but Spirit-led wisdom is always best. Peace in decision-making comes when we surrender to God’s truth and leading. We can face uncertainty with confidence, knowing God’s Spirit is always with us. Let’s Pray Together Lord God, You are my Wonderful Counselor. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit who guides me in truth and helps me make wise decisions. When I feel uncertain or overwhelmed, remind me to seek Your Spirit first. Lead me in Your will, and give me peace as I trust You to direct my steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Creatine is best known as a sports supplement for enhancing muscle strength and high-intensity performance. But could it also improve brain health and cognitive function? Or are such claims overhyped? If creatine can support brain health, it could have implications for aging, neurodegenerative diseases, concussion recovery, and mental fatigue. In this podcast episode, Professor Eric Rawson discusses what current science says about creatine's effects on the brain, including memory, executive function, and protection against neurological stress. Professor Rawson provides context on how creatine works in the body, why the brain might benefit, and what evidence exists so far. Eric Rawson, PhD is Professor and Chair in the Department of Health, Nutrition & Exercise Science at Messiah University. For over twenty years, his research has centered on the interplay between nutrition and skeletal muscle, notably investigating how creatine supplementation affects both muscle and brain function. Work doesn’t always look or feel the way we imagined. Sometimes, the job we prayed for ends up feeling draining, and we struggle to find joy in our daily tasks. Yet, as our daily prayer and devotional on Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, our work is not about our comfort—it’s about trusting God with the assignment He’s given us. When we shift our focus from ourselves to God’s purpose, even the most ordinary or frustrating responsibilities can become opportunities to glorify Him. Our workplace becomes a mission field, where conversations, attitudes, and actions can shine Christ’s light into the lives of coworkers and clients. The key is to acknowledge God in all our ways—to invite Him into our tasks, our meetings, and even our frustrations. As we lean on Him instead of our own understanding, He gives us peace, perspective, and joy to serve faithfully each day. Today's Bible Reading: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." – Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) Key Takeaways God places us in our workplaces for a greater purpose. Our jobs become a mission field when we focus on serving Him first. Choosing joy and gratitude can transform frustration into fruitful ministry. Trusting God with our workday aligns us with His greater plan. Let’s Pray Together Lord, thank You for my job and the opportunities it provides. Help me see my workplace as a mission field and my tasks as ways to glorify You. Guard me from complaining or discouragement, and instead fill me with Your peace, focus, and joy. Use me today to shine Your light to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen. It’s natural to feel proud when we accomplish something—whether at work, school, or in our relationships. But Paul’s reminder to the church in Corinth, and in today's devotional and prayer, shifts our perspective: our successes are not our own, but the work of God through us. The Corinthians struggled with division and pride, boasting about their leaders and achievements. Paul called them back to the heart of the gospel—Christ alone. Our gifts, victories, and opportunities are not for our own glory but for God’s. When we boast in the Lord, we redirect praise where it belongs. This doesn’t mean ignoring our blessings, but rather using them as opportunities to magnify the grace, mercy, and love of God. True joy comes when we celebrate His work in us and through us. Your Daily Bible Reading: "Therefore, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.'” – 1 Corinthians 1:31 (NIV) Key Takeaways Everything good in us comes from God; our boasting should point to Him. Pride divides, but humility unites us as one body in Christ. Celebrating victories is good, but let’s shine the spotlight on God’s faithfulness. Boasting in the Lord helps us resist self-promotion and practice gratitude. Let’s Pray Together Heavenly Father, thank You for every blessing and gift You’ve given me. Forgive me when I let pride take the place of gratitude. Teach me to boast only in You, pointing others to Your goodness and mercy. May all I do bring glory and honor to Your name alone. Have you ever faced a decision that left you feeling uncertain about which way to go? In today's prayer and devotional, Scripture reminds us that our steps are directed by the Lord, even when we can’t fully see or understand His plan. Christine Perry shares a personal story of feeling the Lord’s nudge to step away from her current path without knowing what would come next. What began as confusion and hesitation became a testimony of God’s perfect provision. Where Christine only saw uncertainty, God had already prepared opportunities for work, housing, and growth that she never could have orchestrated on her own. The truth is, our perspective is limited—we see only what’s right in front of us. God, however, sees the full picture. Trusting Him with our decisions means surrendering our desire for total control and stepping forward in faith, even when the path feels unclear. His direction may not always align with our original plans, but His way is always better. Today's Bible Reading "A man's steps are of the Lord; How then can a man understand his own way?" – Proverbs 20:24 (NKJV) Key Takeaways God often asks us to take the first step before revealing the next. Our plans may fall through, but God’s purposes never fail. Trusting His direction requires faith beyond what we can see. God’s provision and timing are always perfect, even when the process feels uncertain. Let’s Pray Together Lord, thank You for directing my steps, even when I don’t understand the way forward. Help me to trust Your wisdom and surrender my plans to You. Thank You for being my Shepherd, Provider, and Guide. Teach me to walk in faith, believing that Your direction is always good. Sometimes the right choice is also the hardest one. In our daily prayer and devotional, we are reminded that as parents, spouses, friends, or leaders, God often calls us to take steps of faith that don’t align with the world’s expectations. Saying “no” to conformity and “yes” to God’s way can feel uncomfortable in the moment, but His Word reminds us that His will is always good, pleasing, and perfect. Conviction is often the Spirit’s way of guiding us into what is best. Romans 12:2 reminds us that transformation happens as we renew our minds in God’s truth. When we consistently lean into Scripture, pray for discernment, and trust His leading, He equips us with courage to walk forward—even when the path feels uncertain. Faith-filled steps may not always be easy, but they are always worth it. When we choose obedience, we not only honor God but also position ourselves and those we love to receive His best. Today's Bible Reading: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." – Romans 12:2 Key Takeaways Conviction is an invitation to step away from conformity and into God’s will. Renewing our minds with Scripture helps us discern His direction clearly. Faith often requires uncomfortable but courageous steps of obedience. God’s plans are always for our good, even when they feel hard in the moment. Let’s Pray Together Lord God, You are the way, and Your way is perfect. Help me not to conform to the world but to be renewed daily in Your Word. Give me courage to follow through when I feel convicted, trusting that Your plan is good, pleasing, and perfect. Thank You for guiding me and walking with me as I take steps of faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Depression and seasons of deep sadness can make life feel like it’s swallowed up in darkness. In our daily prayer and devotion, we remember that whether triggered by circumstances or unexplainable inner struggles, those moments can feel isolating and overwhelming. Yet Scripture reminds us that the light of Christ shines brighter than any darkness we face. Jesus is not only the Light of the World (John 8:12), but He also promises that the darkness cannot overcome Him. Even when our hearts feel heavy and hopeless, His presence brings warmth, direction, and peace. Turning to Him in prayer, leaning on His Word, and allowing His people to surround us with encouragement can help us see His light even in the darkest valleys. Depression may not vanish overnight, but the promise of John 1:5 assures us that the darkness will never win. Christ’s light prevails—and we can cling to Him for the strength to keep moving forward. Today's Bible Reading "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:4-5 Key Takeaways Depression and sadness may linger, but they are not stronger than Christ’s light. Isolation makes darkness heavier; community and God’s Word bring renewal. Jesus, the Light of the World, promises that the darkness cannot overcome Him. Turning to Him in prayer helps us shift our focus from despair to His radiant hope. Let’s Pray Together Dear Jesus, please help me find light when I feel surrounded by darkness. You are the world’s light, and Your love pierces through despair. Surround me with Your brilliance and guide me to trust You even in the hardest moments. My heart praises You, Lord. Amen. Calls to Action Reach out to a trusted friend or counselor if you are struggling with depression. Write down verses about God’s light (like John 1:5 or Psalm 27:1) and keep them nearby. Our words have power—to either build up or break down. In today's prayer, Vivian Bricker reflects on how the wisdom passed down from her mother shaped her own understanding of the importance of speech, and how Scripture calls us to use our tongues as trees of life. Whether we’ve been wounded by words or regret the ones we’ve spoken, there is hope and healing through Christ. By surrendering our speech to Him, we allow God to shape our words into sources of encouragement, compassion, and truth. Today's Prayer Leans on This Bible Verse:

Welcome back to In the Word with Malcolm Webber! In some circles, Colossians 2:15 is interpreted to mean that Jesus went to hell after His crucifixion and beat up the devil to recover mankind's lost authority over creation. But the Bible doesn't support this interpretation at all! Instead, it says that we have been delivered from Satan's power by nothing more or less than the blood of Jesus Christ! Daily Meditation As the sun rises on the first day of summer, our hearts turn toward a season rich with beauty, warmth, and growth—both in nature and in spirit. In today’s prayerful reflection, Lynette Kittle invites us to pause with gratitude and recognize God’s faithful hand in the changing of the seasons. From plowed fields and grazing livestock to sun-drenched days and fresh green growth, summer is more than a change in weather—it’s a spiritual reminder that God keeps His promises, just as surely as He brings the warmth of summer after a long winter. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 3:1 and the promise of enduring seasons in Genesis 8:22, we are reminded that each summer day is a gift and a chance to draw nearer to God, to grow deeper roots in faith, and to praise Him for His steadfast love. ✨ Key Takeaways God is the Author of the Seasons: We can trust in His timing and purposes (Ecclesiastes 3:1, Genesis 8:22). Summer is a Spiritual Gift: A season of abundance, growth, and visible fruit in both nature and our spiritual lives. God’s Faithfulness Never Fails: Just as the sun rises, His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). We are called to celebrate, worship, and notice God's handiwork in every bloom, breeze, and sunbeam.

There are lots of mistakes people make in their efforts to save their marriage. This particular mistake is what I consider to be the 3rd biggest. I hear it in the questions people send me every single week. In fact, I hear this mistake probably 3 or more times each day. And here is the sad thing: the mistake is made with all the best of intentions. . . and all the worst of results. Like all mistakes, it is avoidable. (If something is unavoidable, it can't be a mistake; a mistake always has an alternative that could avoid the mistake.) I am betting you have made this mistake. (I have.) My hope is that, once I point it out, it will be so obvious that you will not repeat it. RELATED RESOURCES: 3 Problems With Marital Therapy Avoid The 3 A's Separation: Will It Help?
