Last week on the Habit Thrive Podcast, we talked about using rituals and routines to create more joy in our holiday season.On Episode #130 today, I'm giving you a short ritual to try that is meant to create calm and open up space for more joy.This grounding practice can be done nearly anywhere at any time, and you can feel free to use whatever parts of it speak to you in the moment.We're going to G.R.O.U.N.D. ourselves:G - GroundR - Raise our ArmsO - Open our ChestU - UnwindN - Notice our SurroundingsD - Deepen our BreathG - GroundFrom a standing position, distribute your weight equally on both legs.Feel yourself connected to the ground through your feet and into your heels and toes.Feel your shoulders relax.You may even try 3 or 4 heel bumps: Lift your heels up off the ground and “bump” them back down to your grounded position.This helps to relax your shoulders and remind your brain that it's time to get out of your own head.R - Raise our ArmsStart with your arms by your side.As you inhale, raise your arms up - arms shoulder distance apart, palms facing in - to shoulder level or higher.On the exhale, lower your arms quickly, bend your knees, and release your breath with a “ha”. O - Open our ChestWhen we open our chest, we open our heart.All you have to do to open your chest is just to lift your chest a little.Tip: Try tapping just below the collarbone. This reminds you to lift your chest and as a bonus helps with posture!On the inhale, open your chest with a little lift.On the exhale, let your shoulders drop.U - UnwindUnwind using a progressive muscle relaxation technique.Bring your shoulders up toward your ears as you inhale, and hold them in place for a couple of seconds.As you exhale, let your shoulders relax.You can try this with any part of your body that feels tension. Try balling up your fists on the inhale and releasing the tension in your hands and fingers on the exhale.N - NoticeNotice your surroundings - What do you see, hear, smell, taste and feel?This places you in the present moment, taking you away from your worries and thoughts. Many of us have suffered through brokenness at different times spiritually, and financially, relationship break ups, job loss, death of a loved one, etc. What we do in our brokenness impacts the timing of our healing process. My divorce broke me into a million little pieces and God healed me even though it didn't happen overnight. In fact, it's been a long and difficult journey. However, I'm finally sensing level ground and readiness to step into a different season of my life. How do we recover from being BROKEN? B – Be still in the Lord.“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) This is the time we need to keep the course by what we know is right—praying, reading our Bible, fellowship with God's people, etc. It's not easy to push past our brokenness, but we will find our peace if we don't give up. R – Reach out for help.“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15) It's not always easy to reach out for assistance to make it through our pain. However, God uses other people to hold us up through the painful times if we are willing to humble ourselves. O – Open up to a change in God's plan and purpose for our lives.“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19) We can get tunnel vision and only see one way for our purpose to be fulfilled. However, God's plan is always much deeper and broader than what we can know in our finite human abilities. K – Keep the faith that this brokenness is working for our good.“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:28-31) We may not have expected this time of brokenness, but God knew it from before we were born. He's predestined us to get through this time and work in us His good pleasure leading to a greater purpose. E – Expect times of difficulty, but recognize that we don't have to stay there.“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:5) We will have times of weeping and sorrow in our brokenness. Our comfort comes from the hope and peace through the Spirit of Christ—He relates to our sorrow just as He wept on the earth.N – Next thing…moment by moment.“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'” (James 4:14-15) Sometimes looking toward the end of the day, week, or month feels like an eternity. We take each moment by moment trusting in the Lord to provide, protect, and meet us right where we are in this season. Prayer Dear Lord, I'm broken in this season and need Your help to lead me. I know that my hope and strength reside in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

A fase principal do torneio de Roland-Garros começa neste domingo (26) com a participação de seis tenistas brasileiros na disputa de simples, a maior do país em 36 anos, segundo a Confederação Brasileira de Tênis (CBT). Além dos já previamente classificados Thiago Wild (58° do ranking mundial) e Bia Haddad (14ª), outros quatro atletas conseguiram vaga na fase classificatória, encerrada na sexta-feira (24).     Maria Paula Carvalho, de Roland-GarrosO advogado André Froes é um dos muitos torcedores brasileiros que viajaram a Paris para acompanhar o campeonato de Roland-Garros, o segundo Grand Slam de tênis da temporada 2024, depois do Open da Austrália. "É sensacional, a minha primeira vez aqui em Roland-Garros. Eu vim direto de Belo Horizonte. É demais", disse ele em entrevista à RFI Brasil em uma das quadras do lendário complexo esportivo parisiense.  E a torcida tem motivos para estar animada. Estreando no tradicional aberto da França, Gustavo Heide já conseguiu vaga na chave principal. Além dele, o cearense Thiago Monteiro, número 2 do Brasil e 84° do mundo, também é uma das promessas do Brasil na competição. Ele chega a Paris com grandes expectativas e busca manter a boa forma dos últimos torneios. No Masters 1000 de Madri, na Espanha, Thiago foi até a terceira rodada, batendo o sétimo do mundo, Stefanos Tsitsipas. No Masters de Roma, na Itália, ele parou somente nas oitavas de final. O paulista Felipe Meligeni (136° do ranking da ATP - Associação de Tenistas Profissionais) é outro que garantiu sua vaga no quali de Roland-Garros, após vencer com facilidade o português Jaime Faria (183° do ranking mundial), na sexta-feira, por 2 a 0, com parciais de 6-4 e 6-2."Foi mais ou menos parecido quando eu passei no qualifying do US Open", disse em entrevista à RFI sobre participar do segundo Grand Slam de sua carreira. "É bom já ter passado por isso uma vez, é um feito importante para mim com certeza, mas não acabou nada, foi só o quali e agora chega a 'pedrada' também e tenho que estar preparado, descansado e seguir fazendo as coisas do jeito que estou fazendo com o time e a gente tem muita chance de fazer um estrago na chave principal", promete.   Felipe Meligeni também falou sobre o bom momento do tênis nacional. "A gente está tendo um investimento melhor, a CBT  vem ajudando muito o tênis brasileiro. Então, eu acho que isso enche os olhos e a gente jogando aqui dá exemplo para a galera que está vindo. Os resultados não vêm por acaso, todo mundo está jogando muito bem, os jogadores estão muito empenhados. Não somos muitos, mas se todo mundo torcer um pelo outro, tem tudo para ir para frente e acho que é um momento muito legal que a gente está vivendo", celebra.  Esta poderá ser uma das edições mais disputadas dos últimos tempos, especialmente no torneio masculino. A principal razão é que muitos dos grandes nomes do circuito ATP têm enfrentado problemas físicos, como o espanhol Rafael Nadal, 14 vezes campeão de Roland-Garros, longe de sua melhor forma.  Mais uma vez este ano, a competição vai oferecer partidas noturnas para proporcionar aos espectadores uma experiência ainda mais envolvente.  Desde 2021, o torneio organizado pela Federação Francesa de Tênis é presidido pela ex-atleta Amélie Mauresmo, que anunciou algumas novidades: a quadra Suzanne-Lenglen agora dispõe de uma cobertura semelhante à da arena principal, Philippe-Chatrier, para que os jogos não sejam paralisados em caso de chuva. Outra inovação é a criação de um museu e de um auditório.  Laura e Bia, duas brasileiras na disputa de simplesDisputar Roland-Garros é um sonho também para Laura Pigossi (119ª do ranking mundial). A tenista de São Paulo garantiu vaga na competição na sexta-feira, após vencer a romena Cristina Dinu (229ª) por 2 a 0, com parciais de 6-2 e 6-2, em 1h14 min. "Eu gosto bastante de estudar as minhas adversárias, ser fiel a uma tática, ser fiel a ser agressiva e venho fazendo isso em 2024. Desde o Pan-Americano, eu venho tentando mudar o meu jogo e ser mais agressiva, melhorar coisas que eu não fazia tão bem e acho que está dando resultado, eu acho que tem que continuar", acrescenta. A tenista pediu o apoio da torcida. "Eu realmente peço para o pessoal vir torcer porque muda o ambiente da quadra, muda a atmosfera e para nós faz muita diferença", explica. "Estou muito feliz de poder ter duas brasileiras na chave principal de Roland-Garros de simples, na dupla tem mais. E acho que é isso, seguir fazendo o meu trabalho, seguir confiando e passar essa mensagem para as tenistas mais jovens de que tudo é possível, contanto que você acredite nos seus sonhos, coloque muita energia neles e trabalhe duro que as coisas acontecem", conclui.Rumo a Paris 2024Nas duplas, outros cinco brasileiros estão na competição. Entre eles, o gaúcho Rafael Matos, campeão de duplas mistas no Australian Open de 2023. "É o meu terceiro ano, nos outros dois eu joguei muito bem, fiz bons resultados. Então, a expectativa está bem alta, eu adoro este torneio e estou bem feliz de estar aqui mais um ano", disse ele à RFI Brasil.O Open da França vai até o dia 9 de maio e é uma oportunidade para ver os melhores atletas do mundo em quadra, poucos meses antes dos Jogos Olímpicos Paris 2024, cujas partidas de tênis acontecerão no estádio da Porte d' Auteuil, no 16º distrito da capital francesa. "É o último torneio que soma pontos para classificar para a olimpíada. Jogar aqui em Roland-Garros, em Paris, com toda a história que o tênis brasileiro tem neste torneio, vai ser um sonho", diz Matos. "É em Paris, cidade que as pessoas já gostam de vir, é Roland-Garros, que tem toda a história do Guga (Gustavo Kuerten) por trás, um torneio incrível, um Grand Slam, então, soma tudo isso e as pessoas gostam bastante de vir", afirma o atleta. É o caso da dona de casa Erica Tardin, de Campinas, que aproveitou o fim de semana na capital francesa para conferir os jogos de Roland-Garros. "Eu sou muito fã de tênis, apareceu a oportunidade eu tinha que vir", disse. "A torcida vem em peso, brasileiro não decepciona", conclui.

When the Israelites were coming to the Promised Land, God gave them clear and distinct instructions to follow. He didn't give a series of rules and regulations because He wanted to control them. Rather, He wanted them to live a good life filled with joy, peace, and the security of His presence. By choosing to obey God's commands, they were choosing life. By choosing to disobey God's commands, they were choosing death. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we also can choose between life and death by how we live. When we choose God's ways over our own desires, we choose to bring life to our dreams and destiny. In the same way, choosing to disobey or ignore key truths of God's word will most certainly bring death to the purposes and plans of our lives. How can we daily choose life over death? C – Converse with God in prayer every single day. (Ephesians 6:18) H – Honestly evaluate our heart motives for why we do what we do. (2 Corinthians 13:5) O – Open our hearts and minds to know and live God's word. (James 1:22) O – Order our priorities based on an eternal point of view. (Colossians 3:2) S – Seek opportunities to speak life into the lives of others. (Ephesians 4:15) E – Engage in activities that build the kingdom of God. (Acts 28:31) Our daily choices will result in the fruit of spiritual life or death. Our Lord gives us the freedom to choose so that we will follow Him with all of our hearts. Because of the spirit of hatred, self-loathing, and rebellion—many people are taking their pain and spreading to innocent bystanders. In addition, we have new level of negativity and pessimism infiltrated in the hearts of men, women, and children like never before. If we aren't careful, we can allow ourselves to get caught up in the storms of this world and forget to lay our anchor on the true foundation, who is our Rock—the Lord Jesus Christ. How can we A.N.C.H.O.R. ourselves in times of uncertainty? A – Adjust our expectations.“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2) N – Nail our fear, anxieties, and worries to the cross.“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7) C – Control what we can control.“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or questioning.” (Philippians 2:13-14) H – Have faith in God's plan and purpose for our lives.“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. The way we see the world around us is shaped by our experiences, beliefs, and values, and sometimes these factors can create a disconnect with our mindset. But how do we navigate this conflict? In this episode, we will explore the importance of understanding the difference between our point of view and mindset and provide you with five ways to enhance your point of view with a little BACON! To begin, let's explore the difference between our POINT OF VIEW and mindset. Our point of view is the way we perceive an event, idea, or situation. It's shaped by our experiences, social conditioning, and beliefs. Our MINDSET is the lens through which we see the world. It's the mental filter that informs our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. When our mindset and point of view are not aligned, we can experience confusion, uncertainty, and a sense of being stuck. Therefore, it's important to understand and work on both. Mindset describes a person's overall approach to life, while POV is more about the way they see a specific situation. So, how do we improve our point of view? B - Be Curious: This means being inquisitive and willing to learn more about a subject or situation. Don't be afraid to ask questions and challenge assumptions. A - Acknowledge your biases: We all have biases - unconscious beliefs that affect the way we see things. Becoming aware of our biases helps us to be more objective and consider different perspectives. C - Challenge your assumptions: Don't take things at face value. Look deeper and question the assumptions that reinforce your point of view. This will help you to see things in a new light. O - Open your mind: Be open to change and new experiences. Our point of view can become rigid and inflexible, which limits our ability to see things in a new way. Embrace new ideas and experiences. N - Navigate discomfort: Sometimes shifting our point of view can be uncomfortable and challenging. Recognize that this discomfort is a natural part of the process of expanding your understanding. Be patient with yourself and take small steps. Working on both our point of view and mindset is essential for personal growth, self-awareness, and better outcomes. By understanding the difference between our point of view and mindset, we can navigate conflicting thoughts and beliefs more effectively. How often do we stifle our own happiness due to guilt and resentment? These are two of the most common emotions that can keep us from reaching for the joys in life. Guilt keeps us focused on what "should be" instead of celebrating what is, while resentment leaves us blaming ourselves or others for how things have turned out. Allowing these two states of mind to cloud our judgement only serves to rob us of any chance at true contentment and peace-of-mind. It is so important to break free from guilt and resentments as well as how you can work towards a more positive mental state, so you can start living happier every day! Let's start by defining what guilt and resentment are. Guilt is the feeling of remorse or responsibility that arises from doing something wrong or failing to do something right. Resentment, on the other hand, is the feeling of anger or bitterness towards someone or something that has done us wrong. Now, both guilt and resentment are normal human emotions. But when we hold on to them for too long, they can start to weigh us down and affect our overall happiness. That's where the B.A.C.O.N. plan comes in, and I'll explain what that means. B- Believe in yourself. The first step to overcoming guilt and resentment is to believe that you can do it. You deserve happiness, and it's within your power to achieve it. A- Accept the Past. We need to accept that we can't change the past, and that holding on to guilt or resentment won't make it go away. We need to let go of the past and move forward. C- Compassion. We need to practice self-compassion, which means being kind and forgiving towards ourselves. We all make mistakes, and it's important to treat ourselves with kindness and understanding. O- Open communication. If there's someone we need to forgive or apologize to, we need to have open and honest communication with them. It's important to express our feelings in a calm and respectful way. N- New perspective. Finally, we need to shift our perspective and focus on the present and the future. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it and use it as a stepping stone towards a better future. So, to sum up, guilt and resentment can get in the way of our happiness, but with the B.A.C.O.N. plan, we can overcome them. Believe in yourself, accept the past, practice self-compassion, communicate openly, and shift your perspective towards the future. It won't happen overnight, but with time, patience, and effort, we can all achieve greater happiness and peace of mind. "Moving on doesn't mean you forget about things. It just means you have to accept what happened and continue living." Adaptability is your Happiness Superpower! At its core, adaptability is about figuring out how to make the best of a situation, even when circumstances change unexpectedly. It can help you navigate any challenge that comes your way. When you're adaptable, you're not tied to a specific outcome, and that means you're less likely to be disappointed or frustrated when things don't go your way. Instead, you'll be able to shift your focus and energy towards finding a new solution or opportunity, and that can lead to greater happiness and fulfillment. ON THE JOB: One of the most significant benefits of being adaptable is that it can help you thrive in the workplace. At work, things move fast, they change in an instant, and those who are adaptable are often the ones who succeed. Being adaptable means that you're open to new ideas and ways of doing things, which is essential in industries that are constantly evolving (and which industries aren't?) It also means that you're better equipped to handle unexpected challenges or setbacks, which is an invaluable trait in any job. IN OUR RELATIONSHIPS: So, why is adaptability so important? A Jack of all Trades and a Master of None is often better than a Master of One! The meaning of this phrase switches back and forth between compliment and diss. And “diss” is what we want to get to the bottom of. The original phrase “a Jack of all trades” was used to describe Willian Shakespeare, actor turned playwright. But this same phrase could have as easily been coined for the likes of Aristotle, Leonardo Di Vinci, or Benjamin Franklin. These were some of the many historic figures who knew that the greater their scope of knowledge, the easier it would be to solve problems and create. The second part was added “Master of None” to belittle those that didn't or don't specialize. And that is how we usually remember this quote. Finally, the rhyme was finished to even out the playing field and to remind us that there is room and need for Generalists and Specialists in this world and where you work. Today we are talking about Making Decisions: Are You A Satisficer or a Maximizer? Some deep things we cover:What kind of decision makers are Phyllis and Julie?How does people pleasing factor into decision making?Decision Fatigue: This occurs when there are too many options and your brain can't quite process it all.Hard Choices vs. Big Choices: Not all big decisions are hard and not all small decisions are easy.  “On Par” Decisions:  Sometimes decisions are hard to make because what you're choosing between have equal pros and cons.  When Pros and Cons Fail to Help You Make a Decision…Try Ruth Chang's “A.U.T.H.O.R.” Hack:A - Ascertain what matters in the choiceU - Understand the pros and cons of the alternatives T - Tally up the pros and cons (these 3 steps lead you to agony so now you need more steps.)H - Home.  Settle into the fact that this is a hard choice.O - Open yourself up to the possibility of making a commitment to this choice. R - Remake or Realize yourself as someone who has committed. Make yourself into someone who has the most reason to make this choice.7. The worry of “Am I Making a Mistake?” can prevent us from making a decision: Getting in the “right” or “wrong” mindset can keep us stuck. 8. Who Can You Commit to Being? Might be a better question when making big life choices.9. Are You a Maximizer or a Satisficer? Do you evaluate and stress over every single detail of a decision or are you usually okay with a “good enough” decision?     Take-aways:Roasted Brussel Sprouts or Carrot Sticks: Sometimes decisions don't need to be that hard.  You don't have to roast brussel sprouts when a bag of carrot sticks will suffice. It's human nature to get angry. It is a sign that something is wrong. It is often a reaction to fear, being hurt, or feeling threatened. When we feel like things are out of our control and are not going the way that we want or have anticipated, we become annoyed. If this feeling is not addresses in some manner, it can build into frustration. Left unchecked, hostility and rage may be the next emotions that we feel. In that state it is too easy to take out that rage on the wrong people. Let's talk about why we get to that point, how we can prevent it, and what to do when we are around it. When feeling enraged B – Breathing adds a pause that allows us to calm down. A – Analyze the root of our feelings to clarify and further understand. C – Consider other options. O – Open up. Don't hold it inside. N – Navigate towards a solution and normalize that option. When faced with Rage (Be sure that you are safe. Walk away if you have to.) B – Break the momentum. Don't let it grow. A – Ask about the Why. What is causing these feelings. C – Calm over Confrontation. Never fight fire with fire. O – Offer Empathy or Solutions. What do they need? N – Nurture and Grow. Help them identify the signs and create new plans. Learn how we display and act out our anger. Are we passive aggressive, opening aggressive, or assertive? She accepted that she is perfectly imperfect, just like everyone else. – “We fall but we pick ourselves back up and doors open. It's beautiful.”[10:42] Who are the people most helped by Kate's coaching? Her ideal clients are those who are feeling afraid, sitting on the edge but wanting to take a plunge despite the unknown. Whether male or female, Kate's practice is about holding sacred space in which people can play big and step into their greatness. Your body is aching to release the disorder in your mind if you allow it to open and clear those beliefs that do not serve.o G: Give yourself the honoring, love, self-compassion, and gratitude that resonate deeply as worthiness emanating from within.o I: Intuition is your truest compass, allowing you to be what you need to be in any given moment.o V: Value yourself enough to prioritize things that are worthy of your intention, including setting boundaries (which is critical to entrepreneurial vision).o E: Empathize with yourself so that you can hold empathy for others. E Emotional acceptance Allow emotions to be fully experienced without self-judgement or suppression. Suppressed emotions sabotage love.
