David joins on the eve of his trip to Marseille to talk about the unrest rocking France and the sky-high ticket prices at the Copa Centenario with George. Then George and Bobby speak with Chris Billig, the man behind @gay4soccer, to talk about how soccer communities can be more inclusive and try, even in small ways, to combat the bigotry that leads to unspeakable crimes like the one that recently took place in Orlando. In Tiki Talka, Bobby suggests a new look at hand balls and George talks about a man who can't seem to keep his hands off his balls even when he knows he on TV. Learn more about your ad choices. …But that doesn't mean U.S. fans should be happy. Note: The new iTunes feed is not ready, so we’re publishing the second episode of the Double Pivot here. The next one should have it’s own feed… Okay, onto the podcast. In this episode, Mike Goodman and Michael Caley discuss the first weekend of the Copa Centenario, but first they preview Euro 16: why France deserves to be the favorite; how Germany weird brand of soccer is even weirder than you thought; and good but boring Spain. Also, El Tri’s oddly struggled with a man advantage against Uruguay plus DON’T WORRY: the USMNT isn’t that bad, and Klinsmann isn't necessarily wrong when he points that out. While the third and fourth rounds of the MLS SuperDraft went down via conference call, ESPN’s Taylor Twellman joined Andrew, David and Matt for a wide-ranging MLS discussion that included the former Revs and USMNT’s striker’s New Year’s resolution, Jordan Morris’ potential MLS future, the Rapids’ pursuit of a certain US national team goalkeeper, the rebuilding project going on in Los Angeles and uncertain MLS fates for Jermaine Jones and Didier Drogba. Of course, there’s plenty going on outside MLS. Notably, the USMNT’s January camp is ongoing, and Matt puts 2016 – Olympic qualifying, Copa Centenario and World Cup qualifying – in context. More importantly, what’s up with Morris’ rumored Sounders signing after leaving Werder Bremen? Where does he fit in and what does it mean for Seattle? Plus, thoughts on what are the Chicago Fire are up to, Yura Movsisyan’s 2016 goal haul and a Costa Rican international linked with New York City FC. In the mailbag, a certain Red Bulls’ player (of the past) created a stir on Craigslist, and MLS’s biggest Hungarian fan chimes in on Sporting KC’s newest signing and Krisztian Nemeth’s MLS future.
verybody loves a little midweek action, and Andrew and David break it all down – from Frank Lampard’s first MLS goal to another missed opportunity for the Quakes – before New England’s Diego Fagundez joins to give MLS fans the lowdown on muddin’ with Lee Nguyen, the Revs late-summer runs and his decision to represent Uruguay. Plus, MLS clubs do the business in the CONCACAF Champions League. In the second segment, the guys take a closer look at what’s turning into a back-and-forth MLS Cup playoff race. Who can clinch this weekend? Whose hopes are slowly dwindling? Can Drogba and Co. knock off the first-place Revs? Can Sporting Kansas City pull out of their recent nosedive? Is the Wiebe curse for real? The mailbag starts with some CONCACAF Cup roster chatter (no Guardado? USMNT fans can hope), then rumors from around the Copa Centenario water cooler. Will it happen? Soccer fans in the US wait with baited breath. Plus, thoughts on LAFC’s name confirmation and Darlington Nagbe’s United States citizenship and what it could mean for the US national team.
Heineken Rivalry Week is upon us, but first the guys break down all the midweek action from the MLS regular season, Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League. First up, an unexpected loss for the Red Bulls that confirmed Simon’s hot take on the Fire from Monday’s show. But what about that corner kick? PRO says no good, but Dave’s not so sure. While that was going down, the Vancouver Whitecaps lifted a cup and sealed their place in the CCL. Speaking of CCL, which MLS teams are positioned best to advance to the knockout stage? The weekend gets started with a classic, a Cali Clasico to be specific. Both teams are hot, but can San Jose really knock off the high-flying Galaxy? Then, on Saturday, Canada gets in on the act, as Toronto host Montreal in a matchup of two playoff hopefuls. The Impact need wins, but will they have Didier Drogba to help them get one? Soccer Sunday is the main course, and the Seattle Times’ Matt Pentz and Fox Sports’ John Strong break down #SEAvPOR and #NYvDC. In the mailbag, the guys give away the Cascadia Crazy 8s from adidas and ponder the future of the Copa Centenario. Plus, which team is being pitched as “Showtime on Grass?”
