Jay Heaps is an American former professional soccer player who is currently the President and General Manager of Alabama-based USL Championship team Birmingham Legion FC. Following four years as a double-athlete at Duke University - he competed with both the Men's soccer team and Men's basketball team (under Coach K) and won the Hermann Trophy (best college soccer player) - Jay made the transition to professional soccer in the MLS beginning at Miami Fusion. After two seasons there, where he won MLS Rookie of the year, Jay moved to New England Revolution, where he spent the rest of his playing career making a total of 243 appearances. In addition, Jay earned 4 US men's national team caps, all coming in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Since retiring from soccer in 2009, Jay wasted no time in pursuing careers off the field. He spent two years at Morgan Stanley as a private wealth manager before heading back to soccer as manager of the New England Revolution, where he remained until 2017. Jay Heaps (@JayHeaps722) talks to Markus Fjørtoft (@markusfjortoft) and Ciaran McKenna (@ciaranmckenna8) about an extraordinary career molded by both natural and applied excellence. Jay's innate talent coupled with an extreme competitiveness has allowed him to succeed as both a player, coach, wall street wealth manager, and now in the dual role as President and General Manager at newly-started USL Championship team Birmingham Legion. Impressive is an understatement, and we're thrilled to share this episode with you!Follow BroPod on Twitter @BroPod1 and Facebook. Lets talk about it. -So we talked about the USWNT struggling vs Sweden early last week. We said have no fear the ladies will bounce back vs New Zealand…and they did! Much more like the USWNT we are used to seeing. That left them with just having to draw vs Australia this morning….and they did! Wasn't pretty but the USWNT gets into the knockout stage with a 0-0 draw. The ladies have a date with the Netherlands on Friday morning -Finally, we discuss any new summer transfer signings that happened in the past week or so! Orlando City is on a losing streak. This awful feeling that you have is something that you thought went away after Oscar Pareja's arrival, but here we are after multiple losses for the Lions and a date with a rejuvenated Toronto FC looming on Saturday. Orlando went to Chicago and failed miserably to take its chances, allowing the hosts to hang around and ultimately win the game going away, 3-1. We break it down and give our Man of the Match picks. We also discuss the potential signing of a new left back that wasn't officially announced but was reported with such details so as to be basically unofficially announced while we were recording the podcast. (Welcome, Emmanuel Mas!) And nobody wants to think about a sale of Chris Mueller but he's being sought by some Belgian clubs. We get into the tricky nature of Mueller's contract situation and what Orlando can do to maximize the situation. The Orlando Pride played their worst match of the season on the heels of consecutive losses but somehow didn't lose. Sydney Leroux's goal at the death lifted Orlando to a home draw against Racing Louisville over the weekend and Marc Skinner's club has a difficult July to navigate if the Pride are going to not only stay in the hunt for a regular-season title, but also just to remain in the playoff race. A new signing since our last show might help with that. International soccer continues to be a big topic this summer and the Concacaf Gold Cup is in full swing. Not only are the U.S. men in action but there are other international matches being played right here in Orlando. We talk about what's happened so far and why you should go see some Group C games at Exploria Stadium even if you don't have any skin in the game. This week's mailbag wants to know about Derek Dodson's loan and whether Yoshimar Yotun could return. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 254 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City struggles to find the net and we've got some transfer talk (and only some of it was outdated by the time we finished recording). 28:00 - The Pride find a way to avoid a home defeat against Louisville and add an attacking player. 55:26 - It's mailbag time and we give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City against Toronto FC...wherever they're playing. Orlando City jumped back into action with two matches since our last show and won them both. The Lions are scoring goals and getting dubs and that brings a smile to our faces, even if you can't see them while listening to the PawedCast. Perhaps you can hear them? We break down the Lions' wins over Toronto FC and the San Jose Earthquakes and select our Man of the Match picks from both games. There were a lot of good candidates to choose from in both games and yet we were unanimous with both selections. There's news on the call-up front as four Lions made preliminary rosters for the Concacaf Gold Cup, but we'll have to wait to see who makes the final cut. We have a feeling Daryl Dike will be one of those who will go represent his country — especially after his brace against the Quakes. We've also got two more results for the Orlando Pride to discuss, including a dramatic last-minute draw at home against Gotham FC and a big road win in Kansas City with huge contributions from Sydney Leroux and a wondergoal from Marta. Hopefully the Pride can keep it going on the road at Houston this weekend. At least three members of the Pride are headed to the Olympics officially, and we know of another one who will be headed to Tokyo as well. We'll tell you who. There's news on the OCB front as MLS announced a new league in which the Young Lions can develop their game against 19 other sides from Major League Soccer and perhaps some independent clubs as well. And the Orlando City Development Academy teams are doing great. This week's mailbag had some questions about what Ted Lasso gear to buy and whether Willian will end up in purple. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how show No. 251 went down: 0:15 - Two more wins for Orlando City and...wait, that's a lot of goals in two games. Offense is fun! And some Lions might be headed to the Gold Cup. 33:44 - Four more points for the Pride, who extended their season-opening unbeaten streak to seven matches. Plus, Olympic call-ups and OCB and academy updates. 1:00:29 - It's mailbag time and we give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Inter Miami.
