Hey, soccer fans! Do you belive in deja vu? The Chicago Fire's latest match - a loss to FC Cincinnati - sure felt like their prior outing against FCC just much worse. The Men in Red blew two one-goal leads, missed a PK in stoppage time, and conceded the game-winning PK just minutes later. Tune in as Nick vents his frustration with the lack of player execution and coaching failures. He focuses on a concerning trend of player rotation and substitutions from Gregg Berhalter and his staff. They appeared to be rotating players around their US Open Cup match vs. St. Louis City and their match against a bad Sporting Kansas City team, but then make no proactive subs to preserve the wins against Cincinnati in both matches. Hey, soccer fans! New month, new opportunities, new shows! The Chicago Fire had their media day last week, and Gregg Berhalter and his players gave us a lot of great quotes to analyze. Nick focused on themes of expectations and new player integration - perenneial playoff appearances is now the floor for the club, and there are players that appear to be eyeing a trophy this season. Tune in to hear the quotes and Nick's reactions. Nick also provides an update on Major League SOccer's newest partner, Polymarket, a predication market company, and technically not sports gambling. Despite being legal in all fifty states and MLS wanting to ensure integrity in the market, this seems like another gambling sponsor. And as gambling has more influence over the league, the game will suffer. Tune in and join the conversation! Make sure you like & subscribe, rate & review, and keep growing the show. Hey, soccer fans! I hope you're keeping warm this January. The Chicago Fire certainly are keeping us engaged with the latest transfer moves - Kellyn Acosta and the club have mutually parted ways. The MLS veteran helped bring the Men in Red into a new era under Gregg Berhalter, setting standards in training, professionalism, and play - and gave us one of the most memorable goals in Chicago Fire history, the Windy City Miracle against Montreal in 2024. Tune in to hear Nick's thoughts on Acosta's impact and how the roster has to evolve without him. The Fire also sign another South African international, Puso Dithejane, a winger from TS Galaxy. Dithejane brings youth, depth, and speed to the Fire wings. Nick discusses where they new player will fit within the Fire's system and how this could be the first domino to fall to shake up the winger position on the roster. Tune in and join the conversation! Soccerwise was lucky to sit-down with Chicago's Director of Football & Head Coach Gregg Berhalter as the offseason begins. He talks with David about his time with the USMNT, the special season his son had, what wins in MLS, the potential of big name additions in Chicago, and much more.
Hey, soccer fans! The post-season is roster build season! Clubs all around Major League Soccer are releasing players, extending contracts, and exercising options on big names and depth pieces. While the Chicago Fire made news signing Andre Franco and Anton Saletros, there are a now a number of available players with MLS experience the Men in Red should consider evaluating. Would you like Giacomo Vrioni backing up Hugo Cuypers? How about Sean Johnson returngin to Chicago to back up Chris Brady? Could Bryce Duke fit in as a start for Gregg Berhalter's style of play? Nick also discussed the terrible allegations against Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. Accused - again and by more sources - of homphobic, misogynistic, and racist comments, MLS has re-opened their investigation into Tanner. Meanwhile, the club has placed him on leave. On the eve of Copa América last summer, former U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Stu Holden came by the show to preview a competition that he would soon crisscross the country covering for FOX Sports. The tournament did not go well for the USA, and then-head coach Gregg Berhalter lost his job on the back of it. But it was also a great opportunity to take stock of the young Americans plying their trade for some of Europe's biggest clubs: Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tim Weah, Gio Reyna, Antonee Robinson, Chris Richards and more.Holden spoke on the biases that American footballers have faced in Europe and his own pride in challenging those perceptions as a Premier League player with Bolton Wanderers a generation ago. But he also threw down a challenge to the high-flyers of the present, and a year later, his takes on many of the Americans abroad look rock-solid.Pulisic continued to thrive at AC Milan last season, Richards and Robinson went from strength to strength in England, and Reyna — among others — never cleared Holden's bar to become a key asset for his employer. (In fact, Reyna's time at Borussia Dortmund appears to be over.) As Holden put it, these guys need to do more than just be at these clubs if the USMNT is to do something major next summer at the 2026 World Cup.Get more Classic moments from The Football Weekend:"Go, Go USA!" At long last! After months of whispers and not so subtle hints, the Chicago Fire on Tuesday morning unveiled their plans for a 22,000 seat, privately funded, soccer-specific stadium in Chicago's South Loop. Construction is expected to begin this fall, with the expectation it will be completed ahead of the 2028 MLS season. What does this mean for the Fire? For Chicago sports? Alex is joined by CHGO Cubs contributor and WGN Radio's Kevin Wells to react to and break down the news.
Good morning, good afternoon, good night and good luck Blue Ballers — following a massive 3-1 victory over Gregg Berhalter's visiting Chicago Fire, your Boys in Blue are starting to feel optimistic about the season again. And with NYCFC sitting at 6th in the east, we've got good reason! We cover a punchy yet pinioned Chicago, goals and goal support from Bakrar, Wolf, and Martinez, the solidity developing in the front AND the back (don't ask about the crack), and the beginning of what might be a run of lineup consistency in Pascal Jansen's NYCFC. PLUS: Gold Cup gripes, hot takes on the halfway point, and best cocktails on mediterranean beaches. Make sure to check the conversion rate: you've got Blue Balls!
Last week started well for the Fire, with a dominant 4-1 win on the road against Charlotte FC powered by two goals and an assist for Brian Gutierrez. It ended Sunday with a 1-0 lead that turned into a 3-1 loss to NYCFC at Yankee Stadium in large part due to Gutierrez elbowing an opponent in the face and being sent off. This will be the second time he's been suspended this season, and by the end of the suspension he will have missed seven matches due to either suspension, injury or national team duty. What do we make of the enigma that is Guti? Also, the Fire advanced in the Open Cup and we now know their path to a potential record breaking fifth title. Can they do it? Should it be prioritized over the league? Alex is joined by Kiril Anastasov of Chicago Sports Nation for all that and more.

The guys also react to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal draw and chat with Chicago Fire keeper Chris Brady about his USMNT ambitions and working with Gregg Berhalter (29:43).
