On today's show we chat to Erin Deering - ex-co-founder of multi-million dollar swimwear brand Triangl, and recent author of her first book, Hanging By A Thread. The idea for Triangl was simple: The year was 2012 and Erin struggled to find an affordable bikini she liked, so alongside her partner at the time, Craig Ellis, she decided to manufacture them. The idea to do this together, by the way, was decided upon on just their second date - and a day after Erin's 27th birthday. By 2015, the company was selling more than 1000 bikinis a day and Topshop's Philip Green wanted to invest. From the outside, you'd think she had it all: a life in Monaco, flying first class, and their own super yacht. But this was far from reality and Erin was very much struggling. In 2016, Erin left not only her business, Triangl, but also her partner. Today, Erin lives with her four kids and husband Zac Keane in Melbourne. She is a businesswoman and entrepreneur through and through and has honestly been through it all. We're talking pretty much every high and low in business and life that you can imagine. So join us as we unpack the highs and lows Erin experienced with Triangl, the fashion business she is launching a little later in 2024 and all things Hanging By A Thread - her very first book! – Erin has a number of books lined up - the one she wants to read the most is Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss's Glossier. She also has Surrounded By Idiots and Small Giants on her list. She is also an avid listener of the Diary Of A CEO Podcast (I mean, who isn't?!) – Find Erin on Instagram here: @erinkdeering and TikTok here: @erindeering You can also find Erin's book, Hanging By A Thread for a vulnerable deep dive into Erin's success and the challenges she faced in trying to take care of her mental health while in pursuit of her dreams. – Wanting more? Dr. Craig Ellis, Vice President of Services at HighMatch, joins us for episode 258 of Art of Construction.  The construction industry is facing a perfect storm when it comes to employees, with an aging workforce nearing retirement, the great resignation pulling skilled and professional talent into other industries, and the new generation (Gen Z) ignoring careers in construction for other industries. Approaching this crisis using the same historical hiring approach is a recipe for disaster. Instead, contractors and affiliates need to take a different approach.  HighMatch is a modern approach to employment assessments, delivering personalized candidate insights at every stage of the hiring cycle, leading to better matches and happier employees. As the Vice President of Services, Craig leads the consulting arm of the company. They've served many of the top builders in the country as well as small to medium sized construction businesses for the last 15 years. Craig holds a Ph.D. in Industrial & Organizational Psychology and has used his degree to help contractors and affiliates of all size grow their business.  Join Devon and Craig as they discuss modern approaches to hiring, onboarding and workplace culture for construction, why it's vital for builders to rethink who they want to hire and the roles they are hiring for, and why great people will always be the best thing for a company; even better than a great process.

Episode 1 of the Out of Chicago Podcast   Please leave a review of the podcast on iTunes. Thanks! (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/out-chicago-photography-podcast/id881281935?mt=2) 1. An introduction to the Out of Chicago podcast I started the Out of Chicago podcast for the same reason that I started the Out of Chicago site, wrote The Photographer’s Guide to Chicago (http://www.amzn.com/B00F08993Q) eBook, that I’m making the Photographer’s Guide to Chicago App with Craig Ellis, or that I’m running the Out of Chicago Conference (http://outofchicago.com/conference) this summer. I was disappointed that these things did not already exist. Podcasts are one of my favorite ways to keep up with the photography community because I can listen to them in the car when I can’t do much else. Sorry to the Disney Podcast guys! It’s ISO5571 (http://www.iso5571.com/) , not whatever number I said. If you’re a photographer and you’re headed to a Disney park, I highly recommend the podcast. I just don’t really get the name. 2. An interview with Valerie Jardin I am extremely fortunate to have made so many amazing friends in photography, and Valerie Jardin is one of my most recent new friends. Valerie writes for Digital Photography School, is a frequent guest and sometimes even hosts the This Week in Photo Podcast, and runs street photography workshops all over the world. Learn more about her and her upcoming workshops at www.ValerieJardinPhotography.com (http://www.valeriejardinphotography.com) 3. Shooting from Navy Pier There are five places that I recommend and describe in the podcast The Ferris Wheel The Navy Pier Parking Garage Pier Park Olive Park Navy Pier walkways The Pick of the Week: www.CameraSize.com (http://www.camerasize.com) If you’re thinking about buying a mirrorless camera, go to CameraSize.com to see images of your choice of camera and lens combination next to images of any other camera and lens combinations. It’s a great way to see how much bigger your current DSLR is. Here is a comparison of my Canon 6D with 70-300L lens and my new Olympus E-M10 with 40-150mm lens (http://camerasize.com/compact/#380.10,521.95,ha,t) .
