When three-year-old Brittany Eichelberger slipped out of her family's trailer in Elkins, West Virginia on Christmas Eve 1990, no one knew she was gone. She was found hours later, clinically dead in the snow — frozen stiff, her heart stopped, her body nearly 25 degrees below normal temperature. A neighbor, a determined paramedic, and a rural hospital team that refused to quit launched one of the most extraordinary resuscitation efforts ever documented in emergency medicine. The cold that stopped her heart may also be the reason her brain survived. This is a story about what happens when everyone around you decides it isn't over yet. Nat and Kristen wrote their own obituaries - one involves a yacht, gin martinis, Michelle Obama, and a request for dramatic sobbing (guess who). The other is a manifesto. Both are surprisingly useful. This episode is about using your obituary as a filter: for your values, your career, and whether you're actually living the life you want or just a very organised version of the default one. Plus: living funerals, why the robot (AI) makes a terrible life coach, and what happens when you're too content to think big.Loved it? Share it and leave us a 5-star review! Got a topic for us? Drop Dead Fred has an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics absolutely hated it. But it's really good! Seriously. Let Matt and Laci tell you all about it... ...for the second time. That's right, it's time to return to a movie we've covered already. The first time was nearly a decade ago, on the tenth episode of this podcast. Back then, the show was called Load Bearing Beams and it came out every 73 days. We've gotten more consistent since then. Back then we were stunned at how sweet, funny, and insightful Drop Dead Fred is... and it still is! It's nice when that happens. Before diving into an in-depth discussion of the movie, we go through its production history, and then look at the careers of stars Rik Mayall and Phoebe Cates. The Rik Mayall portion shows us how badly we need a Britain Correspondent (email us!) to understand television over there. Then, while going through Phoebe Cates's career, we saw some, uh, interesting stuff that may have informed her performance as a woman who's spent her life being handed from controlling adult to controlling adult. Remember, this show contains irresponsible psychoanalysis for which we are wildly unqualified. Watch the history segment in full: https://youtu.be/V855FOu-u1A  Next week (May 29, 2026): In our last episode before we begin our summer miniseries, we're treating ourselves to David Fincher's Gone Girl (2014).   Time stamps: 00:06:35 — History segment: Critical reception of Drop Dead Fred; development of the movie; career overview of Rik Mayall; career overview of Phoebe Cates; legacy of Drop Dead Fred   00:39:10 — Movie discussion 01:54:25 — Final thoughts & star ratings   Drop Dead Fred (1991) was directed by Ate de Jong. Paul Murdaugh kept Mallory Beach's obituary tucked into the door frame of his truck. Every time he climbed in, it was right there. Blanca Simpson saw it because she'd been inside the Murdaugh home for fifteen years and knew things about that family the cameras and courtrooms never captured. In this interview with Tony Brueski, Blanca tells the story of who the Murdaughs actually were behind the front door — and why the public version doesn't match what she witnessed. She goes back to the beginning — meeting Alex in the late '90s, translating for his cases, and eventually becoming the family's housekeeper after the real estate crash left her between jobs. Over the years, the relationship deepened from cleaning to running the household, cashing checks, and becoming someone Maggie trusted enough to confide in when Alex wouldn't give her the full truth about a $30 million lawsuit bearing down on the family.Blanca challenges the public image of both Maggie and Paul. She describes Maggie as the opposite of the cold socialite in a fur coat — loud, funny, generous, and always shopping local to support the community. She remembers Paul's humor and his arrogance in equal measure, but insists the version the media handed the public after the boating incident erased the person he actually was.She reveals the private fractures: Maggie wanting to sell everything to make things right while Alex wouldn't sit down long enough to explain the situation. The joke about Maggie divorcing Alex for Tom Brady that got twisted into a serious rumor. And the two months before the murders when Alex started retreating — staying in bed, showing up late, carrying something nobody around him could fully see.LINKS & LEGALJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? You ever sell something online and think, “Cool, smooth transaction, nothing weird will happen here”? Yeah… that's not this episode. On today's funny podcast, Moon casually mentions he sold a signed snowboard to a local guy—no big deal—until the buyer says he's sick… and then completely disappears. Like, ghosted. Gone. Off the grid. And now Moon's stuck in the moral dilemma of the century: How long before you start Googling someone's obituary without looking like a psychopath?Naturally, the show handles this situation with the grace and professionalism you'd expect… which is to say, absolutely none. Within minutes, it turns into a full group debate about social boundaries, internet stalking, and whether checking Facebook for a memorial page is “too far” or just “good customer service.”And because emotional stability isn't really our brand, we pivot straight into Match Up With The Morons, where confidence is high and accuracy is… optional. We're talking wildly incorrect movie trivia, Area 51 confusion that hurts to listen to, and one question that somehow launches a passionate, borderline unnecessary debate about the origins of the Dustbuster.Yes. A vacuum. That's where we're at.Somewhere along the way, we also argue about paper airplane world records, completely butcher basic human biology (breathing is harder than you think, apparently), and prove once again that this funny podcast thrives on chaos, bad guesses, and just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you enjoy a funny podcast where the conversations spiral, the trivia gets questionable, and nobody leaves smarter—but everyone leaves entertained—this one's for you.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
