Yaya Erin Rivera Merriman is a Plant Spirit Medicine Practitioner specializing in sacred plant medicines for communication and relationship. Believing strongly in the necessity of hybrid medicine to meet the unique challenges of modern life, Yaya is engaged in the continued study of Plant Medicine, Active Dreaming, and Goddess Traditions from around the world as gateways into the richness of direct personal experience of uncurated reality. A Devotee, Artist, and Mother of primarily Taino and Irish descent, Yaya offers multi-dimensional, plant medicine assisted, sex-positive prayer spaces, and healing experiences designed to help you integrate all that you have encountered on your soul's journey and come to live from a place of deep understanding of the way that each of your life experiences has contributed to the uniqueness and potency of your personal spirit medicine. In this episode, Yaya shares her experience of being of mixed descent and the braided blood of the Taino indigenous people. She shares how she's developed a relationship with the land she lives on and how she very much sees being in relationship with the land like being in a romantic relationship. We talk about the cyclical wheel of the year to foster reconnection to nature and how linear time is a tool that can facilitate a certain way of being, but that doesn't necessarily need to be adhered to. And finally, we talk about plant allies for a time of racial uprising and healing from white supremacy and how Yaya has found the medicine of kava to enable her to feel herself in a time when we lose ourselves. She graciously offers profound green witchy wisdom and insight into to the poorly understood complexities of natural family planning and the nature of birth. Drawing from a multidimensional array of information sources, she helps us to navigate the mystery school that is the sacred womb and yoni temple. We also discuss the often misunderstood iconography of Goddess Kali, and Erin offers a very well ordered interpretation of the fierce, loving, compassionate, and untamed wildness that is symbolized in her more gruesome depictions. A tragic and disturbing incident was also mentioned in the conversation, our prayers go out to the victim of baby monitor hacking. Become a Patron Today. One of the things I loved most about sitting down to talk with Erin was when we touched on the topic of comparing ourselves to other women. I think one of the deepest wounds that can really be a challenge when stepping into true sisterhood and community is when we get stuck comparing ourselves to other people. It brings us right into the question of wondering, is there really enough for everyone? How can we be so similar to each other, carry a similar mission and still be special and unique? These are just some of the questions we explored in this week's episode. We also discussed our shared journeys of navigating chronic pain and how that relates to being an empath, Erin's definitions of a "starseed" and "priestess" and which plant spirits will guide you into a deeper embodied experience of abundance. "Are people healed? Are people hearing the cosmic song? Are people vibrant and thriving in their bodies? Are people moving joyfully, dancing through their day to the grocery store? No! The job is not done and we need more people on the team!" The universe would not give so many people the same mission unless it was a mission that was so big it couldn't be done by just one person... In this episode we discussed: Erin's journey with fibromyalgia and isolation to finding her place in connection with the land, plant spirits and community When surrender is the most powerful tool Ancestral ties & cycles of the inner Feminine and Masculine The medicine of connecting with sacred land Healing in community Comparison & the limiting unspoken agreements between women Plants as Spirit Guides and which plants will support you to have an embodied experience of abundance The gifts of Kava Erin's definition of "Starseed" & "Priestess" How to have spiritual devotion AND a family Stay in touch with Erin: http://www.activeculturefamily.com Starseed Survival Guide Podcast Follow on instagram @activeculturefamily Yaya Erin Rivera Merriman is a Plant Spirit Medicine Practitioner, Ritualist, Goddess Scholar, Mother and Artist.
