Today the boys discuss one of the worst things we've ever had the displeasure of reading. We didin't go in thinking we'd like it. We figured it would be something that just wasn't for us and we could understand (maybe) why others liked it even if it wasn't for us. What we got instead? Awful. Absoilutely positively awful. This is the story of an abused child learning that her abusive mom was a person too and learning to forgive her... no wait, sorry scratch that last part. She learns to apologize to her abusive mom. Her mom is the one who should be apologized to because her mom is luminous while we're a bunch of stupid idiots and her stupid ungrateful daughter needs to learn that her mom did less than the bare minimum necessary to raise those kids and like... some times things were good right? Right? Garbage. This book (and Vivi) was terrible.Support the showBlue Sky - https://bsky.app/profile/wordsaboutbooks.bsky.socialDiscord - https://discord.gg/6BaNRtcP8CThreads - https://www.threads.net/@wordsaboutbookspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wordsaboutbookspodcastBlog - https://blog.wordsaboutbooks.ninja/

On Lou Gehrig Day, we commemorate the great ballplayer who contracted the rare disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS affects nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain causing loss of muscle control. When Rachel Kerr Schneider's husband was diagnosed with ALS, they were raising young children, running the home, planning for an uncertain financial future, managing medical treatments, welcoming hospice, and accepting the help of supportive friends and relatives. It is challenging to remain Christ-like while living in a cloud of chaos. Rachel chronicled the family's journey in her book, The Widow Chose Red.There's never enough time to breathe, to sleep, to eat, to relax, to pray, or to take a bath. However, there's plenty of time to suffer. When her husband died, Rachel chose to wear red to honor her him at his service, choosing to celebrate his life amid her and her children's grieving. Red conveyed an important symbol for her and to those who have been there to support her, John and the family throughout.Rachel tells her story on Book Spectrum with host Chris Cordani. About Rachel KerrSchneiderSince her husband died in 2011, Rachel's faith continues to be challenged by widowhood, single parenting, a son with an addiction, relocation, relationships—a new husband, after ten years of long-distance dating, bonus mom to four girls who lost their mom to breast cancer, and becoming a Yaya, unexpectedly. Through it all, her reliance on and relationship with Jesus has given her the resilience that only the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit can provide. Her mission is to remind women that they do, in fact, possess a super-power of their own in the form of the Holy Spirit which lives and breathes in each one of us.Rachel is a member of the National Association for Christian Women Entrepreneurs and BRI Talks. She enjoys travel, which is good, since her parents live in Melbourne, Australia. She is a graduate of Cottey College and holds a B.B.A. from Southern Methodist University. A southern gal at heart, she currently calls the Dallas area home.On a professional level, Rachel created Spirited Prosperity to provide support, encouragement, and inspiration for women seeking to grow their faith, with a special emphasis on their relationship with the Holy Spirit. Her work has included personal training with Patty Aubery, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Christian Woman's Soul, and Jack Canfield, co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Ignite with Lisa Nichols, John Tesh's All Access Coaching, and Platform with Michael Hyatt. As a Senior Regional Vice President for PartyLite, she was a contributing author to the bestseller Build It Big and has trained and spoken with hundreds of women. A new reading and coloring book about New Orleans' relationship with water will entertain and educate! Katy recently interviewed hrilina ♡, a rising leader among young New Orleanians, who is proud to announce the release of a unique educational coloring book titled “Water Wonderful World.” Published by Trinity City Comics, the book explores the relationship we in South Louisiana have with water, particularly in and around New Orleans. hrilina ♡'s vision for this book was to create an engaging and fun experience for kids (and grownups) that teaches about the role of water in New Orleans—from providing livelihoods to being an essential part of our recreation. The book also faces the challenges of coastal erosion and rising waters. In fact, it was funded through Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund and supported by Mayor Latoya Cantrell's office and the City of New Orleans. “One of my favorite New Orleans Easter eggs in the book is on page six, where everything in the garden bed is a Louisiana export,” says hrilina ♡. “It's Water Wonderful World, and it's about the unique relationship that we New Orleanians have with water. But it's also about how our waters matter to the world, and why people should care about our waters and issues relating to our waters.” “Water Wonderful World” stands out not only for its content but also for its collaborative creation process. The artwork in “Water Wonderful World” was created by three talented teenaged illustrators from New Orleans: Lauren Landers, Zion Mercadel, and London Salvant. Each brings their distinct style to the pages. (They represent local arts programs such as New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), YAYA, and Morris Jeff.) “Water Wonderful World” is now available for download as a PDF from the Trinity City Comics website. Printed copies are also available for sale. Dive into the wonder of water and explore New Orleans through this coloring adventure! Thank you, hrilina ♡, for sharing your talent with Confetti Park in so many ways! (hrilina ♡ is a veteran member of the Confetti Park Players and has long contributed her thoughtful creativity to this radio show and podcast. Here she is sharing a poem called “Teacher's Prayer.”)

Taiwan's government recently deported Liu Zhenya, a Chinese national who goes by “Yaya in Taiwan” on social media. It's after Liu posted comments on Douyin — the Chinese version of TikTok — that Taiwan's government described as threats to national security. Since then Taiwan has deported two other “mainland wives” (Chinese citizens with Taiwanese husbands) over similar concerns about their social media posts. It's also investigating several others. Benny Lu from BBC Chinese explains why Taiwan's government is concerned about what it calls “Chinese propaganda.” He also discusses how people in China and Taiwan have reacted to the deportations.Instagram: @bbcwhatintheworld Email: whatintheworld@bbc.co.uk WhatsApp: +44 0330 12 33 22 6 Presenter: Hannah Gelbart Producers: William Lee Adams and Josh Jenkins Editor: Verity Wilde

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 85-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 22,204 on turnover of 4.8-billion N-T. The market closed higher on Monday led by artificial intelligence related stocks ahead off the start of Nvidia's annual G-P-U technology conference - at which its hoped the company will be showcasing positive leads. Chinese 'military unification' influencer 'in theory' must go by 24th Interior Minister Liu Shi-fang says a Chinese national who advocated for China's annexation of Taiwan through military force should, "in theory," leave the country within 10 days of receiving her deportation order. According to Liu, the woman received that deportation order on Saturday. Speaking during a legislative hearing, the interior minister said the deportation order is "somewhat similar (相似的)" to registered mail - where the time starts from the day after the recipient receives the letter. .. and if "it was delivered to your house but you didn't receive it until the next day, then counting would start from the third day, which means there is some wiggle room." The statement comes after the National Immigration Agency this past weekend announced that a deportation order had been sent to a woman identified by a public social media account known as "Yaya in Taiwan." St. Kitts and Nevis foreign minister visits Taiwan The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Saint Kitts and Nevis' foreign minister is visiting Taiwan this week. According to the ministry, it's the third time that Denzil Douglas has visited Taiwan is his capacity (職位) as foreign minister and he will be meeting with senior government officials during his five-day stay. Douglas and his delegation were welcomed on arriving at Taoyuan International Airport by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi. Douglas is scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung this week. The delegation will also visit the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Israel Launches New Strikes Against Hamas Israel launched new strikes against Hamas and promised ‘increasing military force' after talks on on further hostage releases stalled. Early Friday morning, Israel's Prime Minister's office said it instructed the army to strike Hamas across Gaza. The statement said it was because of Hamas' repeated refusals to release its hostages and its rejection (拒絕) of all offers it received from the U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and mediators. The strikes come after nearly two months of a ceasefire to pause the 17-month long war where dozens of hostages were released for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Hamas is believed to have 24 living hostages and the bodies of 35 others. Sweden Gives Uganda Funds for Ebola Sweden has announced new funding of $2 million to support Uganda's response to the ongoing Sudan Ebola Virus Outbreak. The funding will strengthen efforts in the affected districts of Kampala, Mbale, and Jinja – focusing on risk communication, infection prevention (預防), and critical health services. Michael Baleke reports. Pope Shows Slight Improvement Pope Francis is registering new slight improvements in his monthlong treatment for double pneumonia. The 88-year-old pope is now able to spend some time during the day off high flows of oxygen and use just ordinary supplemental oxygen delivered by a nasal tube. Doctors are also trying to cut back on the amount of time he uses a noninvasive (非侵入性的) mechanical ventilation mask at night, to force his lungs to work more. The Vatican press office also provided some details Monday on the first photo of the pope released since his hospitalization. That was the I.C.R.T. The episode of Beastars that we recapped this week isn’t quite as unsettling as last week’s episode. That civet cat is still off-putting and weird, but my goodness do the animators do an excellent job with Yaya’s animation. The team that animated that zebra in the noodle shop, however, can go sit in a corner... The post Binary System Podcast #448 – Beastars and Star Trek: Lower Decks first appeared on Pixelated Geek.

In the realm of creativity, the bonds we forge with others can be as significant as the artistic expressions we create. The recent episode of the More Than Graphics podcast, hosted by Danielle, Priscilla, and their guest Francesca, delved into the theme of sisterhood—a topic that resonates deeply within the tech and creative industries, particularly for women and minorities. Through their discussion, it became evident that sisterhood not only fosters a sense of belonging but also serves as a catalyst for creativity and meaningful connections.Sisterhood, as articulated by the hosts, is more than just a supportive network; it is a powerful force that nurtures individual and collective creativity. The hosts shared their personal reflections on sisterhood, drawing inspiration from cultural references such as the "Yaya Sisterhood." This connection to shared experiences and cultural narratives underscores the importance of community in the creative process. When women come together, they create a safe space where ideas can flourish, and vulnerabilities can be shared without fear of judgment. This environment encourages experimentation and innovation, essential components of creativity.[00:01:03] Sisterhood in the Yaya Sisterhood.[00:07:21] Female support systems in life.[00:09:08] Healing relationships with women.[00:14:30] Dominican-American sisterhood and identity.[00:20:22] Female relationships and their challenges.[00:22:31] Exploring femininity and connection.[00:28:16] Sisterhood and female friendships.[00:31:14] Exploring non-binary identities.[00:39:04] Balance between home and work.[00:43:42] Healthy masculinity and femininity.[00:44:24] Healthy masculinity and femininity.[00:52:06] Creating beyond traditional boundaries.Follow Francesca:http://www.escoto.arthttp://www.instagram.com/escoto.arthttp://www.linkedin.com/in/francescaescotoFOLLOW MTG:mtgthepodcast.comfacebook.com/mtgthepodcastinstagram.com/mtgthepodcastCO-HOSTS IG: @octanedesigns / @bougienursebabe / @themeetcuteco

This week's Real Talk question asks: how important are names? YaYa and TRUTH switch gears for a bit of celebrity chit-chat, diving into the drama surrounding country artist Collin Obina Chibueze, better known by his stage name, “Shaboozey.” The Nigerian-American performer's stage name is essentially a mispronunciation of his family's native Igbo surname, which means “God is ruler, God is king.” After his name was used as a running gag at the 2024 Country Music Awards, the interwebz was in an uproar! With many different opinions about the implications of pronouncing and mispronouncing of ethnic names—- the real talk question of this week asks.. just how important are names? Religious texts across beliefs have a thing with names, with The Bible mentioning over a dozen names of God, lists names in genealogies, and has characters that meaningfully change names in both the old and New Testament— they gotta count for something. Then for the Moon reading, YaYa is starting a series preparing for the winter solstice ways we can fortify our body, minds and sprit for the darker days ahead.
