Ospite del 153° episodio di Illuminismo Psichedelico è il mara'akame Mario Bautista Bautista, in lingua wixarica (huichol) Etsiekame, ovvero seminatore del fuoco o seminatore di Tatei Niwetsika (la Madre Mais), uno "sciamano" o meglio un sacerdote del peyote della cultura Wixarica, in Messico. Con Mario abbiamo parlato di come si diventa mara'akame, di cosa significa il peyote per lui e per la sua cultura, del significato dei pellegrinaggi annuali nel deserto sacro di Wirikuta, dove i Wixarica hanno incontrato il cervo azzurro e dove da sempre raccolgono il peyote. Mario ci ha illustrato l'origine mitica del cervo azzurro, che si è sacrificato donando ai Wixarica il peyote, una cosmogonia fondativa che è all'origine della loro cultura e della loro visione del mondo. Abbiamo discusso anche dell'accesso, possibile da non più di un quarto di secolo, di persone non appartenenti alla loro cultura al pellegrinaggio e ad alcuni riti della cultura Wixarica, così come del senso che possono avere le cerimonie col peyote condotte in altre parti del mondo, dal suo punto di vista. Insieme a noi in questa puntata era presente l'antropologo Alfonso Romaniello – il nostro inviato nelle Americhe –, che oltre a tradurre le parole del mara'akame ha contributo in modo decisivo alla realizzazione dell'episodio.

Ospite del 150° episodio di Illuminismo Psichedelico (!) è il sacerdote andino e guardiano del San Pedro Marco Mosquera Huatay, un curandero di Cajamarca, in Perù. Marco è del lignaggio di curanderos dei “Colorados” e lavora con il San Pedro, un cactus il cui principio attivo è la Mescalina, come nel caso del Peyote. Il San Pedro è anche conosciuto tra le popolazioni andine come Huachuma, ed è ovviamente sacro, nonché parte della loro cosmovisione. Con Marco Mosquera Huatay abbiamo parlato proprio di questo, di come viene consumato il San Pedro – considerato una vera e propria medicina – di come si articoli la loro cosmovisione e di cosa abbia comportato il riconoscimento dei riti legati alla pianta tra i patrimoni immateriali dell'Unesco. E ancora, del significato che ha per popolazioni così fortemente legate al territorio la devastazione derivante dalla deforestazione o dallo scavo di miniere, e di molto altro. A fare da interprete, in alcuni casi fornendo utili dati di contesto, è stato l'antropologo Alfonso Romaniello, inviato speciale di Illuminismo Psichedelico nell'America Latina, che ovviamente ringraziamo.

Ospite del 149° episodio di Illuminismo Psichedelico - andato in scena nello Spazio Più di Pescara, il 28 febbraio 2025 - è Raffaello Caiano, uno psicoterapeuta, formatore e presidente dell'Aspic Pescara (un'associazione per la formazione dei counselor), che ha scelto questa occasione per confessare un suo antico e duraturo interesse, quello per la psichedelia, ripercorrendo le fasi della sua vita in cui questo si è sviluppato, tra liceo e università, per poi tornare al centro dei suoi pensieri in età più matura, in seguito a una diagnosi tumorale che lo ha colpito, spingendolo a concentrarsi sulle questioni che riteneva più rilevanti. Oltre al coraggio, nella testimonianza di Raffaello è interessante osservare come questa in più punti si intrecci col suo lavoro e il suo sguardo di psicoterapeuta.

Sono passati quattro anni da quando Willie Peyote ha fatto il suo debutto al Festival ottenendo il Premio della Critica Mia Martini. Quest'anno, per la 75esima edizione del Festival di Sanremo porta il brano Grazie ma no grazie, un titolo che è anche «Una risposta utile in tutte le occasioni», specialmente in quelle dove vuoi proprio respingere qualcosa ma con educazione. Nel brano cita anche i Jalisse. Ecco quello che Willie Peyote ci ha raccontato sul truck di Radio Number One insieme ai nostri Stefano Fisico e Andrea Ferrari. «Mi fa molto piacere quando la gente commenta la linea di basso e il groove di Grazie ma no grazie. È la mia parte preferita, che non ho fatto io. Le parti che che scrivo io non sono mai le mie preferite». Willie Peyote condivide l'hotel con Brunori Sas. «Mi succede spesso che mi scambino per Brunori. Io sono onoratissimo perché Dario è un grande, quindi lo prendo come un grande complimento»

Con Emilio, trasferitosi in Italia da poco, abbiamo parlato dei risultati uno studio clinico di fase 2b con GH001, un prototipo di prodotto a base di 5-MeO-DMT inalabile, pensato per pazienti con depressione resistente al trattamento e i cui primi risultati sono stati annunciati la settimana scorsa dall'azienda biofarmaceutica GH Research.I risultati rivelano dei tassi di remissione più elevati e duraturi e con meno effetti avversi rispetto ad altri farmaci, probabilmente a causa di un dosaggio più adattato alle necessità dei pazienti e a una durata più breve dell'esperienza psichedelica acuta, circostanze riguardo alle quali Emilio ipotizza dipenda un minor rischio di vivere un'esperienza traumatica durante l'effetto del farmaco.Data la sua decennale esperienza nell'ambito dell'industria farmaceutica, Arbe si mostra a tratti critico rispetto ad alcuni aspetti della strategia di sviluppo clinico di questo tipo di imprese, nonché all'approccio che vogliono imporre per lo studio e l'approvazione di farmaci psichedelici. Oltre a questo studio sul 5-Meo-DMT, con Emilio abbiamo anche infatti parlato dei trial che la Compass sta portando avanti su un altro farmaco a base di psilocibina.

Ospite del 143° episodio di Illuminismo Psichedelico – in scena dal vivo a Roma, a Campo Magnetico – è stata la medica e specializzanda in psichiatria Georgia Wilson Jones, grazie a cui abbiamo fatto un viaggio nell'ebrezza mescalinica, partendo – come si conviene a un medico – dalla descrizione di struttura molecolare, profilo recettoriale ed effetti fisiologici, fino a risalire alla scoperta occidentale di quello che non solo è uno degli psichedelici maggiori ma anche uno dei più usati nel corso dei millenni, e che oggi al contrario è un po' dimenticato. Il fatto paradossale è che la mescalina è stato il primo degli psichedelici ad arrivare in occidente e il primo con cui, per decenni, si è applicata la psichiatria, partendo dagli studi dello psicologo Kurt Beringer, fino ad arrivare alle ipotesi psicotomimetiche, con decenni di anticipo rispetto a teorizzazioni analoghe rispetto all'azione di altri psichedelici. Infine in questa puntata è presente una interessante proposta di Georgia, quella di rimettere la fenomenologia al centro degli studi psichiatrici per quanto riguarda le sostanze psichedeliche, chissà se ci riuscirà...

Carlos was an anthropology student who allegedly became a sorcerer's apprentice in search of enlightenment and transcendence. He broke the golden rule of his discipline by becoming a participant and not an observer. As time went on various scholars and writers would find flaws in his narrative. Even though he is no longer considered a shaman but a charlatan, he is still seen as the founding father of the New Age Movement.

Psychedelicare è una ICE, ovvero un'iniziativa dei cittadini europei, con cui – raccogliendo un milione di firme in tutta Europa – si potrà imporre alla commissione europe la discussione dei temi oggetto della raccolta firme. Nel caso di Psychedelicare – ovvero l'iniziativa ideata da Théo Giubilei, portata in Italia dall'Associazione Luca Coscioni, e che ha già trovato il consenso di altre realtà come Simepsi e, ovviamente, lo stesso Illuminismo Psichedelico – sono tre le richieste che intendiamo portare alla commissione europea: 1) supportare la creazione di linee guida standard per le terapie psichedeliche in europa, 2) potenziare i fondi per la ricerca scientifica sui composti psichedelici, 3) riclassificare le molecole psichedeliche nelle tabellazioni internazionali. Per ottenere che questi tre punti siano discussi dalla commissione europea, come accennato serve raccogliere un milione di firme a partire da oggi, ossia dal 14 gennaio 2025. His new book, co-edited with neuroscientst and Harvard researcher, Natalie Dyer PhD, titled  “Infinite Perception: The Power of Psychedelics for Global Transformation” is an anthology of voices from the front line of the Psychedelic Renaissance.er, PhD. Dr. Natalie Dyer, PhD, is a Research Scientist with Connor Whole Health at University Hospitals, President of the Center for Reiki Research, and serves on the Scientific and Medical Network board. Natalie completed her doctorate in neuroscience at Queen's University and postdoctoral fellowships in psychology at Harvard University and Harvard Medical School. She has published many scientific papers and book chapters on postmaterialist science, psychedelics, and the therapeutic effects of integrative medicine practices, including yoga, acupuncture, mindfulness, and energy medicine, and is co-editor of the book Expanding Science: Visions of a Postmaterialist Paradigm. Natalie is also an energy medicine practitioner and teacher with clients around the world. Her passion is in understanding and addressing mental and physical health from a psychospiritual perspective. She lives in the woods on the east coast of Canada with her husband, artist Louis Dyer, and their daughter. We discuss the history of psychedelics along with current research and the future of their use in enhancing a wide variety of health and wellness challenges. Ocean brings a great deal of personal experience with shaman ritual as well as scientific research to  the table  in a frank discussion about human potential in body, mind and spirit.
