Traveling without leaving home. A shamanic dreamer and author of over two dozen books, we speak today with Robert Moss in this special replay from April Fool's Day. Robert describes himself as a story teller who helps people find their story. He begins with the tale of what happened when he was pronounced dead at age 3 and about how dreaming is preparation for dying. We speak about the power of imagination and about the practice of living by synchronicity which he calls kairomancy. He urges us to remember to play. We explore a dream from Steve Popp of Santa Cruz in which his dad offers him a horse which ultimately turns into a deer, and a call from Elizabeth from Bellingham who asks about how to stimulate more dreams. She mentions a dream of her own about a blue horse. We also take a call from Beth Ann from the Central Valley who asks about how to find humor and playfulness around dark dreams. Synchronistically, she also mentions dreams about horses. BIO: Robert Moss has been a dream traveler since doctors pronounced him dead in a hospital in Tasmania when he was three years old. Join Andrew and the esteemed dream scholar and prolific author Robert Moss in a vast journey into the underworld of dreams. The conversation begins with a State of the Union address concerning the world of dreams, and a look at how Robert's relationship to dreams has changed over decades of work. “Dreaming is traveling,” he says, and we can bridge inner and outer realities with our journeys, bringing gifts from the dream world back to waking life. What is “Kairomancy,” and how we can we learn to read the sign language of reality by paying attention to synchronicities? Can you navigate through life with this form of divination, and when does the derivation of meaning cross the line into the imputation of meaning, as typified in paranoia? Where do lucid dreams fit in for Robert, and why is “conscious dreaming” a better term? Is it dangerous to try to control our dreams, and what are some of the shadow sides of lucid dreaming? Robert discusses the importance of daimons in our lives, the place of meditation in the world of dreaming, and why shamans are essentially dreamers. What about the place of imagination, the power of the unconscious mind, and the phenomenon of anamnesis? How can we use dreams to awaken to the dreamlike nature of reality? Robert and I share a number of personal reflections about our dream lives, and how our views have evolved over the years. See for yourself why Robert is one of the leading statesmen for dreams in the world today. About Robert Moss: Robert has been a dream traveler since doctors pronounced him clinically dead in a hospital in Hobart, Tasmania, when he was three years old. Robert Moss is a dream teacher and the creator of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of dreamwork and shamanic methods of journeying and healing. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist, and independent scholar. A central premise of Robert's approach is that dreaming isn't just what happens during sleep; dreaming is waking up to sources of guidance, healing and creativity beyond the reach of the everyday mind. We discuss dreaming as a form of travelling, how there are different types of dreams, and his initiation into other realities. We consider dream etiquette, the transformational power of symbolism and imagery, and the potential diagnostic function of dreams. Robert shares the idea of dreams as a form of soul communication, and how we can learn to “talk and walk our dreams”. We consider what aspect of ourselves might survive physical death, the subtle or astral body as the vehicle of dreaming, and the importance of psychic protection. He shares the great importance of dreaming in many cultures, and how in indigenous North America the dominant word for shaman (and also for healer or spiritual elder) means dreamer. Robert has published twelve books on dreaming, shamanism and imagination, including Conscious Dreaming: A Spiritual Path for Everyday Life (Harmony, 1996) - his first and foundational book introducing his marriage of shamanism and dreamwork. Born in Australia, Robert survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He has led seminars at the Esalen Institute, Kripalu, the Omega Institute, the New York Open Center and many others, and offers a three-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming. He has appeared on many TV and radio shows, including the Today Show and Coast to Coast. His books have been published in more than twenty foreign languages.www.mossdreams.comLiked what you heard? David Barr of “IN THE DREAMTIME” We discuss dreams and how to access your dream Information I INVITE YOU ALL TO JOIN ME FOR THIS INTERVIEW WITH Dream specialist, David Barr! I have known David for over 28 years – We met while both working at Ross-Simons, a jewelry company in RI. He was in IT and I worked in the Customer Service dept. I remember David as a quiet, polite young man. I would never have “DREAMED” that either one of us, would be as involved in the spiritual community as we are now and I was thrilled that he agreed to do this interview. I was excited and impressed by this path that David has Ventured down – it is a subject that I am very interested in and I know that many others are as well. Dreams are an important part of our lives and David has studied this field and understands the importance of Dream Interpretation and the importance of empowering others to understand their own dreams. He has created a method(s) to help people understand dreams. It is a very interesting interview/conversation and I can't wait to have David back on to delve deeper into this topic. ABOUT David: David Barr is a Certified Dream Teacher through the Robert Moss School of Active Dreaming. He has a BA in Psychology from Rhode Island College. David's passion is engaging people about dreams. He helps people form deeper connections to their dreams and teaches them to use dreams to enhance their lives. David is also certified in hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming and Reiki and Karuna Reiki. He has also studied with several shaman/shamanic practitioners. Learning to work with dreams has changed my life. Dreams have helped me make major life decisions and guided me towards the right people and paths while steering me away from the wrong ones. By taking action on my dreams, I was able to things like stand-up comedy, stand in the middle of Stonehenge, and teach at various wellness and spiritual centers. As our society began to modernize, our culture stopped valuing our dreams. I'm part of a growing movement to change that. We're told that dreams are a way for our brains to process and organize information and experiences that we've had throughout the day. Dreams are so much more than that… They are sources of inspiration, wisdom, guidance, creativity, healing, and fun. Dreams have led to great works of literature, art, music, movies, inventions, and scientific advancements. When we tap into our dreams and take action on the messages coming through, anything is possible. She shares how she's developed a relationship with the land she lives on and how she very much sees being in relationship with the land like being in a romantic relationship. We talk about the cyclical wheel of the year to foster reconnection to nature and how linear time is a tool that can facilitate a certain way of being, but that doesn't necessarily need to be adhered to. Howdy! Welcome to everyone's least favorite part of manifesting their highest good, the details. If you're a dreamer like me, you probably have high aims for how you'd like to see yourself in the future. That's great, however, (as seen from the inside) you may or may not find a whole lot of meaning in practical tasks that present themselves before you now. You don't enjoy the details. You may even feel the urge to skimp out, half ass, or even neglect practicality altogether. Do so at your peril. Because if there's one thing that holds the loftiest dreamer back, it's a lack of participation in the now. Come along for a chat with me and see if we cant dissect the nature of what it means to be an active dreamer.

He has lived in upstate New York since he received a message from a red-tailed hawk under an old white oak.    The conversation we had is incredibly pertinent to today's very turbulent times. Robert calls it a 'dream drought', where we now need to tap into resources and sources beyond the obvious. Dreams are the language of the soul. This is where dreams come in, and not just the dreams you have at night. He explains the different kinds of dreams you can have, the magic of how they work in helping you to manifest your heart's desires and how to start now. Here are some wonderful tips to help you start to reopen your relationship with your dreams, of all kinds:   Start with your night time dreams and begin to journal about them each morning. Journaling tells the Universe production team, so to speak, that you're ready to record and to listen. Try and remember your first and the last dream you had and write about it (this opens you up to being a vessel for connecting more to your dreams) Get in touch with your magical child self --- whatever it was that you enjoyed doing, start doing more of that NOW. Meditate and grow a vision in your mind of where you want to go directed from your heart center. Find an object that represents this image so you can better touch, taste and feel it. This level of consciousness is known as the 'privileged zone of consciousness'. Give yourself permission and time for day dreaming and to lay around horizontally before you sleep or right when you wake up to connect at a deeper level. This will help you to access the I-land (get it, instead of Island?!) of your heart's deepest desires.   One of my favorite quotes (and chapter titles) from Robert is that 'You don't have to drive used Karma' and 'The stronger the imagination, the less imaginary the results'.    His website is www.mossdreams.com   Enjoying the show? So much of our success depends on what's going on inside and how we react to the challenges along the way. If you don't work on your mindset, you'll end up giving up when facing adversity. You might even be too afraid to start. Unless you spend time figuring out your ultimate goal, visualize that goal, and take action to accomplish it, you'll find yourself spinning your wheels. Your path to your goals likely won't be a straight line. For example, I wrote my book Lingo for creative entrepreneurs, and now I'm being hired by companies to work with their HR departments. I would have never thought I'd end up working in these areas, but if I had never started I would have never found this new path. I had to have the confidence to begin writing my book and the belief that I could follow through. To dive deeper into the idea of changing the inside to affect the outside result, I've brought on author and venture capitalist, Kenneth Aldrich. He is the cofounder of the International Stem Cell Corporation, a publicly-traded regenerative medicine company and is an active member of the Tech Coast Angels, the largest angel investment organization in the United States. He's a graduate of Harvard Law and has founded over eleven companies. Kenneth describes the methods of creating an entrepreneurial mind as a “Dream Toolbox.” To learn how to utilize your Dream Toolbox, download this episode now. THE CAPTAIN WARRIOR   “The shortest route is rarely the fastest” - Kenneth Aldrich Highlights - An entrepreneurial mind sees every obstacle as a puzzle, not as a barrier.  Active Dreaming is when you take a look at your vision and revisit it daily in the mirror. A dream is nothing but a wish if you don't take action. You control your reaction to what happens. Write down the three most pressing problems you're facing and write down three solutions. The shortest route is rarely the fastest- this is true in sailing and business. Plot out the targets you need to hit on the way to your ultimate goal. Success is not a Zero-Sum Game. There is no winner and loser. He identifies the great watershed in his adult life as a sequence of visionary events that unfolded in 1987-1988, after he decided to leave the world of big cities and the fast-track life of a popular novelist (already the author of four New York Times bestsellers, including Moscow Rules) and put down roots on a farm in the upper Hudson Valley of New York. Moss started dreaming in a language he did not know that proved to be an archaic form of the Mohawk language. Helped by native speakers to interpret his dreams, Moss came to believe that they had put him in touch with an ancient healer - a woman of power - and that they were calling him to a different life. His latest book is called, "Mysterious Realities: A Dream Traveler's Tales from the Imaginal Realm "

We talk a lot on my show about the importance of connecting with the limitless part of ourselves, the part that is our spiritual self and what many of us call our Higher Self. We also emphasize the importance of creating choices and seeing the truth of our lives so we can make healthier choices. We grow up with beliefs from our families, religion, schooling and society that entrap and limit us. They teach us that we don't have choices when in fact we do. As we begin to silence the loud voices that tell us no, we can begin to hear the still small voice within that holds the Truth, our Truth, and tells us that we do have choices. We have choices about relationships, sexual preferences, gender identity, careers, where we live, who we spend time with, how we spend our time, what clothes make us feel good, which health practitioners we trust, what belief systems feed us and which ones hurt us. Join us Thursday to learn how to be limitless, create choices and dream your life into reality.

For Life on Purpose Episode #37, my guest is bestselling author and world-renowned "dream explorer" Robert Moss. Robert joins me for a fascinating and lively conversation in which we discuss fun ways to bring more magic and play to your life; his new book Sidewalk Oracles: Playing with Signs, Symbols, and Synchronicity in Everyday Life; living with a sense of a larger purpose and story; becoming a kairomancer, and much more! About: Robert Moss is the author of Sidewalk Oracles and numerous other books about dreaming, shamanism, and imagination. He is a novelist, poet, and independent scholar, and the creator of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of dreamwork and shamanism. He leads creative and shamanic adventures all over the world. About Sidewalk Oracles: Playing with Signs, Symbols, and Synchronicity in Everyday Life: Synchronicity is when the universe gets personal. Through this book of games and enchanting stories, you’ll learn how to monitor the play of coincidence and the symbolic resonance of incidents in daily life in order to tap into the deeper logic of events, receive extraordinary counsel, and have wonderful fun. You will be invited to become a kairomancer: someone who is poised to catch the messages in special moments when synchronicity is in play — and to take action to seize the opportunities those moments present. To be a kairomancer, you need to trust your feelings as you walk the roads of this world, to develop your personal science of shivers, and to recognize in your gut and your skin that you know far more than you hold on the surface of consciousness. This is a way of real magic, which is the art of bringing gifts from a deeper world into this one. Follow it, and you will put a champagne fizz of enchantment into your everyday life. Have you ever had a dream so real that it didn't feel like a dream at all? Ever stranger still, did anything in that dream later come true? Or have you ever had a coincidence or multiple coincidences occur to you, maybe back to back, that left you with goosebumps, thinking to yourself how in the world is that possible? If so, do we have a show for you! Today we'll be speaking with Robert Moss, a world-renowned expert in the field of Active Dreaming. He's a former professor, a shaman, and an expert when it comes to signs and symbols, or the study of the “coincidences” we see in the world around us. And he's the best-selling author of well over a dozen books including the recently released Sidewalk Oracles. Today I want to dive into the “magic” and understand what dreams really have to offer, what active dreaming, and in a sense, how our awake world, is still a world of dreams. I think we've all experienced strange coincidences, and certainly deja-vu moments, I want to find out what they really mean, if they're just coincidences, or if there's a lot more here than meets the eye…and if so, how we can use these synchronicities to live a more magical and meaningful existence. Topics Include: How to know you live in a magical world If you have magic inside of you then you live in a magical world If we're open then things we speak to us We live in a speaking land - Aborigines Take 10-15 minutes every day and be available For 15 minutes receive what the world around you is trying to tell you Listen to what people are seeing Look at what a child is drawing How do we live by synchronicity? Look at them and make a story of them Develop a certain sense of poetic consciousness and poetic health. About the author: Robert Moss is the pioneer of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of shamanism and modern dreamwork. Born in Australia, he survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He leads popular seminars all over the world, including a three-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming and a lively online dream school. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist and independent scholar. His nine books on dreaming, shamanism and imagination include Conscious Dreaming, Dreamways of the Iroquois, The Three “Only” Things: Tapping the Power of Dreams, Coincidence and Imagination, The Secret History of Dreaming, Dreamgates, Active Dreaming and Dreaming the Soul Back Home. “The Boy Who Died and Came Back: Adventures of a Dream Archaeologist in the Multiverse,” Moss’ personal narrative of his experiences of dying and coming back and seeking to live consciously in the multidimensional universe, will be published in March 2014. Moss is also the author of Here, Everything Is Dreaming: Poems and Stories (Excelsion Editions, 2013). Moss describes himself as “a dream teacher, on a path for which there has been no career track in our culture.” He identifies the great watershed in his adult life as a sequence of visionary events that unfolded in 1987-1988, after he decided to leave the world of big cities and the fast-track life of a popular novelist (already the author of four New York Times bestsellers, including Moscow Rules) and put down roots on a farm in the upper Hudson Valley of New York. Moss started dreaming in a language he did not know that proved to be an archaic form of the Mohawk language. Helped by native speakers to interpret his dreams, Moss came to believe that they had put him in touch with an ancient healer – a woman of power – and that they were calling him to a different life. Out of these experiences he wrote a series of historical novels (The Firekeeper, Fire Along the Sky, The Interpreter) and developed the practice he calls Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of contemporary dreamwork and shamanic methods of journeying and healing. A central premise of Moss’s approach is that dreaming isn’t just what happens during sleep; dreaming is waking up to sources of guidance, healing and creativity beyond the reach of the everyday mind.He introduced his method to an international audience as an invited presenter at the conference of the Association for the Study of Dreams at the University of Leiden in 1994. Core techniques of Active Dreaming include: The “lightning dreamwork” process, designed to facilitate quick dream-sharing that results in helpful action; the use of the “if it were my dream” protocol encourages the understanding that the dreamer is always the final authority on his or her dream. Dream reentry: the practice of making a conscious journey back inside a dream in order to clarify information, dialogue with a dream character, or move beyond nightmare terrors into healing and resolution. Tracking and group dreaming: conscious dream travel on an agreed itinerary by two or more partners, often supported by shamanic drumming. Navigating by synchronicity: reading coincidence and “symbolic pop-ups” in ordinary life as “everyday oracles”. Dream archaeology: melding the arts of shamanic dreaming with scholarship and detective work to access other times and cultures and bring back fresh and authentic knowledge that can be tested and verified. Exploring the multiverse and the multidimensional self.

ROBERT MOSS: “This episode with Robert Moss on dreams and the afterlife is an unforgettable adventure. Just like his book, The Boy Who Died And Came Back, this interview is filled with captivating stories, which begin with his mind-blowing near-death experience as a 9-year-old boy. Robert then teaches us about the multidimensional universe in which we live, why our loved ones in spirit choose to connect with us in our dreams, how to heal our relationships with people in spirit, and how to utilize dreams to help loved ones who are dying. He even explains how sharing our dreams with others can be helpful using a technique he calls “Vision Transfer.” As if all that weren’t enough, we talk about the power of imagination and coincidences to top it off. You’re going to love this one.” ~ Bob Olson, Afterlife TV SHOW NOTES: Robert Moss’ Website: http://www.MossDreams.com Robert Moss' Book, The Boy Who Died And Came Back: CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE (paperback). Moss had 3 near death experiences, beginning at the age of 3.  After his first of three near-death experiences, when he was three years old, Robert Moss’s parents were told, “Your boy died and came back.” Moss finds “died and came back” more accurate than “near-death” — and proof that “soul or consciousness is not dependent on the physical body.” Moss’s death experiences revealed reality to be layered and time fluid. Past and present, other worlds, and brilliant sources of wisdom were all accessible. As the creator of Active Dreaming, Moss has taught thousands to use their night dreams to improve their waking lives. Now Moss teaches readers to be archaeologists, excavating and exploring experiences such as temporary death, dreams, and synchronicity. He describes how to seek wisdom and guidance from great minds and seekers, both past and present, and use the multiverse to pursue and live our “big stories.” Through stories and shamanic dreamwork, readers discover truths that illuminate not just the nature of life but also the paths they walk here and now.

“Active Dreaming is a way of being fully of this world while maintaining constant contact with another world, the world-behind-the-world, where the deeper logic and purpose of our lives are to be found,” explains our guest Robert Moss. Join Mr. Moss and host, Christina Pratt, as they explore a vision of what the coming dreaming society could be like. Active Dreaming is for individuals and communities. For individuals active dreaming is a way to live consciously, to move beyond scripts into the fullness of our story, and to step up to the challenge to create something new in the world. For communities active dreaming offers a new mode for leadership that fosters truth and a model for intentional community that extends to include the Earth and the next seven generations. Robert is our next guest for the Society of Shamanic Practitioners sponsored interview series. In this series we explore how contemporary shamans are meeting the challenge of their world where the relations of things are profoundly out of balance. It is the ancient role of the shaman in all cultures to tend the balance of things. How are these shamans meeting this extraordinary need today?
