In 2017, Everybody's Talking About Jamie premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield before transferring to the West End later that year at the Apollo Theatre. Having recorded this interview with Dan in the Spring of 2019, we thought it'd be a good idea to have a quick catch up in 2020 and see what he's up to. As soon as Pasek and Paul's hit musical Dear Evan Hansen announced its West End transfer, speculation was rife about who would take on the eponymous role. That responsibility fell to graduate Sam Tutty, an avid fan of the show from its early days. Rebecca McKinnis plays Evan's mum Heidi, and joined the show from playing another West End mother in Everybody's Talking About Jamie. The pair both sit down with us for this two-hander interview back stage at the Noel Coward Theatre in London. The music used in this podcast is Acid Trumpet by Kevin McLeod, used under Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).

Backstage Brew is presented by Mark Jarvis and it's backstage chatting to various creatives over a brew at Theatres, Gigs, TV sets and Festivals. In this episode we meet Sabrina Sandhu at The Apollo Theatre where she plays Pritti Pasha in Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
Layton Williams is currently playing the title role in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in the West End. At the age of 24 he has been working in showbusiness for more than half his life. After going to an open audition in Manchester for Billy Elliot at 12 years old he was swept away to ‘Billy School’ before playing the role in the West End. That lead to a part in the BBC series Beautiful People, alongside Olivia Colman. Layton trained at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and has since worked with Sir Matthew Bourne and appeared in productions of Rent, Hairspray and Kiss Me Kate. He can also be seen in the three series of Bad Education which was also made into a film. As well as performing eight shows a week, Layton has his own dance academy and works with the charity Stonewall on LGBTQ education and inclusion. We recorded this episode in Layton’s dressing room a few days after the Olivier Awards. We talked about taking over the role from his best friend John McCrea, how he had to go back into the closet after going back to school in Greater Manchester after Billy Elliot, and being taught to knit by Olivia Colman. John McCrea is the breakout West End star of the last year. He’s currently strutting in heels as Jamie New in one of the most recent new British musicals to hit the West End, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. John created the role of Jamie in the first workshop of the show in 2014. It transferred to London at the end of last year after its world premiere in Sheffield. I went to meet John at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. We talked about how the show was developed, how he found ‘his Jamie’ and how he feels about bidding farewell to his on-stage mother, Josie Walker who left the show at the weekend.
We went to the West End Bake Off and had a brilliant time! So many shows making fabulous bakes (no soggy bottoms in sight) and £9500 raised for Acting For Others.
