In this heartfelt episode of Baking Scraps, Lisa and Cristina sit down with The Great Australian Baking Show finalist Vanessa Furci for a conversation that is so much more than Bake Off.Vanessa shares how her Italian heritage shaped her love of food, growing up cooking alongside her nonna in a garage kitchen filled with big tables, loud laughter, and even bigger flavours. Now a nurse working in oncology and a mom of two little ones, she opens up about how food connects generations, carries memory, and becomes a love language during both joyful and deeply difficult seasons of life.We talk about the emotional story behind the Bake Off cookbook her nonna gifted her before she passed away, the surreal moment she received the acceptance call while at a Wiggles concert, and what it was like to film the series while raising babies at home. Vanessa opens up about juggling motherhood, auditions, hospital visits, intense technical challenges, and the unforgettable moment her family surprised her in the Grand Final. This episode is about legacy, Italian traditions, blind dates that last seven hours, and marrying the guy you swore you never would.Bring tissues. And maybe a biscuit. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week, the boys step into their most steamy era as they attempt their very best impressions of Nigella Lawson, now that she's officially the new Bake Off judge. With Valentine's Day creeping up, a listener asks the all important question: are Valentine's cards romantic keepsakes or just aggressively soppy bits of folded paper? The boys weigh in with their honest opinions. And finally, we address a more serious topic. Following messages about Pete's audiobook, the boys take a moment to respond and clear a few things up.—
Big news for one of television's most popular reality TV shows! Dame Prue Leith is leaving The Great British Bake Off and will be replaced by celebrity cooking icon, Nigella Lawson. Nigella will almost certainly attract her legion of followers to the Bake Off audience, on account of her warm likeability and earnest passion for eating good food. I had the very good fortune of interviewing Nigella in 2015, and we quickly recognized each other as kindred souls, or "kitchen cousins." She was an absolute delight! You can listen to my chat with Nigella here: https://www.marionkane.com/podcast/chat-nigella-kitchen-cousin/ If you're on Instagram, here's a link to a clip of Nigella talking about how she feels excited and "a teeny bit frightened" about joining The Great British Bake Off. https://www.instagram.com/p/DUGOC40FK4g/?hl=en #thegreatbritishbakeoff #realitytelevision #nigellalawson #britishtv #marionkane #foodsleuth
In this heartfelt special edition episode, Lisa and Allison raise a (theoretical) glass to Prue as they reflect on her legacy, charm, and deliciously sharp judging eye. Equal parts celebration and gentle send-off, the Girls revisit what made Prue such a beloved presence in the Bake Off universe — her warmth, her wisdom, and her unapologetic love of good food. With their signature mix of humor and affection, Lisa and Allison reminisce about standout Prue moments, memorable bakes, and the way she shaped the tent's tone over the years. There are laughs, a few sentimental beats, and plenty of playful “armchair judging” along the way.Cozy, conversational, and just a little bittersweet, this episode feels like a proper farewell tea: sweet, thoughtful, and sprinkled with gratitude — plus a generous dollop of butter for good measure.

Have you been sold a lie? What if doing more is actually a fast track to achieving less? You know how it goes, you find more time in your schedule, you've become competent at a certain amount of work and so your instinct is to fill the time gap, add more to your workload and generally max yourself out. I'm not wrong, am I? Women especially have been targeted by a culture of success meaning a side-hustle, having some sort of brilliant entrepreneurial idea that'll make millions and being able to do everything perfectly in all corners of our lives. Yep, we're all expected to be able to do our own accounts, bake a Bake-Off quality birthday cake with no notice and maintain a fitness regime that requires hours in the gym. It's. All. Too. Much. So, in this episode I look at the ways in which you can still get everything done but without the accompanying panic, stress, cortisol spike and general urgency that we've been conditioned to lock into in order to appear, and feel, like we're doing things properly.Contact me: office@emmaguns.comSubscribe to my Substack Follow me on InstagramHey! Dame Mary Berry has been teaching Brits to cook for more than half a decade. Aged 90, she remains a staple on our screens at Christmas. Born in Bath in 1935, Berry was the middle child of two brothers. She struggled in school and studied Home Economics class instead of Maths.Berry left school with no qualifications but continued to pursue her love of cooking, training at the famous Le Cordon Bleu school in France. In 1971, she began her TV career with slots on shows like Collector's World and Good Afternoon with Judith Chalmers, where she'd teach viewers how use newfangled items like freezers and tinfoil.Over the next four decades, Berry would go on to write dozens of cookbooks, feature in and present her own cooking programmes, and teach thousands to cook in her Aga lessons, which she hosted in her own home. But it was her role as a judge on Bake Off that introduced her to a new generation of viewers, and cemented her as one of the nations best-loved cooks. Pull on your coziest jumper and head north to the Bake Off tent as Lisa and Allison celebrate a holiday special with a distinctly Scottish twist. With a lineup of Scottish contestants bringing their own flavors, traditions, and baking bravado to the table, this episode feels festive in a way that's both heartwarming and delightfully specific.Lisa and Allison dig into the bakes, the vibes, and the moments that made this episode stand out — from comforting classics to proudly Scottish touches woven into the challenges. There's admiration for bold choices, gentle ribbing when things wobble, and plenty of appreciation for bakers who bring a sense of place and personality to their holiday creations. As the signatures sparkle, the technical raises eyebrows, and the showstoppers aim high, the Soggy Bottom Girls toast an episode that blends holiday cheer with Scottish charm, proving once again that the best bakes tell a story — even if that story includes a crack, a lean, or a soggy bottom.Pour yourself something warming, grab a mince pie (or a biscuit worthy of a handshake), and join Lisa and Allison for a holiday episode that's cozy, festive, and full of heart — with a wee bit of Bake Off magic.

It's the grand finale of The Great British Bake Off Series 16, and Mirandia and Ben are back in the tent one last time to see who claims the coveted cake stand crown. The finalists. Join us as we break down every moment from the finale. The triumphs, the tension, the tears, and, of course, the final handshake. We'll celebrate the winner, say farewell to this year's bakers, and chat about what might be next for the tent (and Bake Off Banter) as we wrap up Series 16 in style.

‘Desperate Housewives' star Teri Hatcher joins the show. Over crispy trout and ribeye tibs, we talk about her new ‘Desperate Housewives' rewatch podcast, Desperately Devoted, which she co-hosts with her on-screen and real-life daughters. Teri opens up about revisiting Wisteria Lane with fresh eyes and how her 27-year-old daughter's modern perspective reshapes her understanding of the series. We also dive into her lifelong love of food — from culinary school to winning ‘Chopped' and baking in ‘The Great British Bake Off' tent — and how cooking has always been her love language. Teri talks candidly about aging in Hollywood, and about discovering new creative energy through a new hobby: stand-up comedy. This episode was recorded at Aunt Yvette's Kitchen in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
On The Great British Bake Off, Paul Hollywood is known for his tough but fair judgments, his piercing blue eyes, and his handshake, which he offers to a contestant only when they really impress him. But before he was ever a TV judge, he was a baker. When he first started doing TV appearances, it was nothing more than “icing on the cake” of his baking career. But all that changed when he got the call from Bake Off. Paul tells Dan about apprenticing in his father's bakery, how his famous handshake has evolved over the seasons, and why he has an uncomfortable relationship with fame. Paul Hollywood's latest cookbook is Celebrate: Joyful Baking All Year Round. Sign up for our newsletter by November 3 for a chance to win a copy of the book! Open to U.S. and Canada entrants only.
