This week we're doubling up the drama (and the sugar) as we dive into Dessert Week and Pâtisserie Week from Series 16 of The Great British Bake Off! From burnt Basque cheesecakes and wobbly free-standing trifles to towering macaron sculptures, it's been a wild ride on the road to the final. Mirandia and Ben break down who rose to the occasion, who melted under pressure, and which moments had us shouting at the screen. It's two weeks' worth of pastry, panic, and pure Bake Off chaos—served with a side of laughter and a dash of judgment. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and let's talk all things sweet, stressful, and semi-final-worthy! PS. Ben says "IT IS NOT A QUARTER FINAL!!".

Ravneet Gill joins The Go-To Food Podcast with an episode full of chaos, charm, and honesty. She tells the hilarious story of how she met her now-husband Matty while developing menus at Llewellyn's—he didn't like her at first, unfollowed her on Instagram, and fell for her only after a passive-aggressive argument about blue roll on the hob. She relives his rainy proposal at Frieze Art Fair, the parking ticket that came with it, and their wedding filled with food from Lily Vanilli, Happy Endings, and half the London pastry scene. And of course, she shares the madness of opening Gina, their new restaurant in Chingford—five-star reviews from Faye Maschler, half a million pounds spent before serving a single plate, and one unforgettable Sunday when bad potatoes caused a local uproar.Rav opens up about life behind the pass—what happens when trolls flood your Google reviews, when diners complain the “fish has bones,” and when a burger brings in the wrong crowd. She talks about juggling motherhood, TV, and restaurant life, plus the unexpected secret to keeping her marriage strong: living apart during opening month. There's also the surreal story of being scouted for Junior Bake Off through a random DM she nearly ignored while private cheffing in Greece, only to sneak home in the night after her furious client found out she'd landed the gig.She also rewinds to her sweet-toothed childhood above her dad's corner shop, where Crunchies and chocolate-covered raisins ruled, and the fateful moment at 14 when she stopped being a fussy eater. From her first days at St. John (where Fergus Henderson once handed her a doodle of a pair of breasts that inspired a Paris-Brest dessert) to surviving bullying kitchens that pushed her to create Countertalk, Rav tells it all with warmth, humour, and absolute candour. --------Sponsor: This episode is brought to you by Blinq—POS made simple: £69/month, unlimited devices, 24/7 UK support, no contracts or hidden fees. The Baking Scraps crew is back "in the tent" (or rather, peeking through the door) for Carnival Week, and it's a wild ride of deep-fried dough, bold flavors, and big laughs! After taking a short break to reflect on listener feedback, Lisa, Cristina, and Steven return with gratitude, energy, and a fresh appreciation for the bakers of Season 9.The team dives into the Great Canadian Baking Show episode, celebrating standout moments like Dominic's peach-themed pies, Jennifer's Korean hot dog mochi rings (complete with instant noodle powder!), and Jo's beautifully simple apple hand pies. We admire how the bakers' confidence has grown, leading to more authentic, creative bakes full of color and personality. From Margaret's sesame mochi donuts and Ryan's churro cones to Tamara's Newfoundland toutons with rum glaze, we can't help but be impressed by the imagination and heart in every bake. Along the way, there's plenty of laughter, including a detour into Newfoundland traditions; a memorable “deep-frying cat turds” moment; and a chat about pop culture crossovers (hello, K-Pop Demon Hunters meets Bake Off?).We also share our own kitchen adventures recreating the week's bakes, including Lisa's scrambling for a Prinjolata Technical Bake recipe (since CBC didn't share it this week) and Cristina and Steven's thoughts on mastering Italian meringue. The recap wraps up with praise for the Cookie Mask Showstopper Challenge, featuring jaw-dropping designs, and a sad farewell to the latest baker to leave, who will be missed. We now look ahead to next week: Maple Week (and Steven teases his secret for silky maple buttercream!). Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On The Great British Bake Off, Paul Hollywood is known for his tough but fair judgments, his piercing blue eyes, and his handshake, which he offers to a contestant only when they really impress him. But before he was ever a TV judge, he was a baker. When he first started doing TV appearances, it was nothing more than “icing on the cake” of his baking career. But all that changed when he got the call from Bake Off. Paul tells Dan about apprenticing in his father's bakery, how his famous handshake has evolved over the seasons, and why he has an uncomfortable relationship with fame. Paul Hollywood's latest cookbook is Celebrate: Joyful Baking All Year Round. Sign up for our newsletter by November 3 for a chance to win a copy of the book! Open to U.S. and Canada entrants only. The classroom is open and the girls are back in session! With Allison out for the week, Lisa welcomes special guest and honorary Soggy Bottom Girl, Emma—a British baker living in Pittsburgh who's here to decode the mystery of Back to School Week on The Great British Bake Off.From flapjacks that aren't pancakes to school fêtes (yes, that's pronounced “fate”) that involve coconuts and queens, this episode is a deep dive into British school traditions that had Lisa more confused than a Bake Off contestant without a proving drawer. Emma breaks down the brilliance of golden syrup, the chewy magic of a classic traybake, and why British school cake comes slathered in custard—not frosting. The two swap stories about school snacks, fundraiser fatigue, homemade sprinkles (yep, we've made them!), and the cultural differences that had Americans asking: “What even is a flapjack?!”Spoiler alert: it's not what you eat at IHOP.Connect with us:https://soggybottomgirls.com Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soggybottomgirlsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/soggybottomgirls/

Hyperliquid's USDH ticker set off the most dramatic “RFP” in recent memory. The crew breaks down why Native Markets ran away with validator support, whether the process was theater or strategy, and how the Bake-off became a marketing masterstroke—and potential leverage on Circle. We dig into Polymarket odds, the last‑minute Paxos bribery allegation (denied), and what this means for future “native” stables on Solana, app chains, and beyond. Welcome to The Chopping Block – where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week, we're joined by Guy founder of Ethena as a special guest, as a single ticker (USDH) sparked a weeklong spectacle: Hyperliquid's “Bake-off” to award the USDH stablecoin brand. Native Markets surged ahead as validators signaled support, Paxos rallied late with partners and incentives, and Ethena ultimately withdrew. Was this always a vibes‑based beauty contest, or a deliberate move to pressure Circle and re‑route bridge yield? We parse the incentives, the governance, and the market microstructure — and peek at what happens if every big chain/app tries the “native stablecoin” playbook. Show highlights

In this episode of Wrecked by Art, I share how chef Tristen Epps' win on Top Chef Canada became a powerful metaphor for the creative process. We talk about what it means to create from authenticity, how to keep going when you don't know what you're making yet, and why knowing yourself is the foundation of creative expression. Whether you're blocked, burnt out, or just craving more depth in your art, this episode is for you. What I Talk About in This Episode:Why I love competition shows where people create with passion (Top Chef, Bake Off, Pottery Throw Down, etc.)* A Top Chef moment that cracked me open* What Tristan's win taught me about trusting the creative process* Why the best work often starts without a clear idea* The myth of inspiration vs. the truth of presence* Art as lineage, memory, and cultural storytelling* How authenticity requires deep self-knowledge and healing* The difference between broad and deep impact in creative work* Why your truth—not your polish—is what makes your art matter* A gentle invitation to “go to the grocery store” and meet your art where it livesLinks & Resources:Join the Becoming Art waitlist: cindyingram.com/becomingBook a 1:1 curiosity call: cindyingram.com/coachingFollow me on TikTok and ThreadsMentioned in This Episode:Top Chef Canada Season 22 (featuring winner Tristen Epps)Great Pottery Throw Down, Bake Off, Blown AwayMy book: Art Is About Being Whole: A Memoir Get full access to Wrecked by Art with Cindy Ingram at cindyingram.substack.com/subscribe
