It has been 22 years since Fargo North football played for a title. Spartans coach Adam Roland told his team they are in this game by choice, not by chance. "Coach Roland said this is a team of destiny," said senior lineman Adam Jarski. Fargo North football is on a mission this year. "Growing up as a kid and coming to the games and watching the team not really succeed and finally getting the success and being on the team just feels great," said junior running back Peder Haugo.
The football rivalry between Fargo North and Fargo South has a long and storied history, but it's been more than two decades since they took that rivalry to the postseason. North and South last faced off in the playoffs in 2000. This year it's a bit of deja vu. “I mean it's been going on for a long time. Last game my uncle played when they beat South in the semifinals in 2000," said North junior running back Jim Miller. "It's the first thing he told me when I woke up when we found out we were playing South."

Fargo North football is 4-0 and the Spartans are getting ready for a rivalry game against South. Yeah, Dana and Kerstin. There was some uncertainty at North after graduating two all-state receivers, but they've turned to an unexpected to fill those shoes. “(Jeremiah Sem) is a quality young man with a lot of natural, special gifted athletic qualities," said North basketball coach Jeremiah Sem is known for his eye-catching basketball skills, but this fall he's turning heads on the football field and it's just his second year of playing.
There's a different energy to summer practices at Fargo North. “Every team has their eyes set on a state championship, or making it to that game," said North head coach Adam Roland. "I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a goal of ours.” For the first time in 21 years, the Spartans are coming off a state semi-finals appearance. The goal now is to keep that momentum rolling into the new season.
