Send us Fan MailA weekly weather report filmed in the rain probably should not be a turning point in racing culture, but that is exactly what happens at River Cities Speedway. We talk with Brina Sang, a Grand Forks, North Dakota native who grew up at the track, took over its social media, and found a bold voice that fans now recognize instantly. From marketing and sponsorship support to viral-style videos, she shares what actually works for grassroots racing promotion when budgets are tight and opinions are loud.Brina also walks us through the leap from selling 50-50 tickets to becoming a dirt track announcer, including the shaky first night, the pressure of calling races in front of thousands, and the craft of keeping the crowd engaged during cautions and red flags. We get into what makes a great Friday night program, how driver stories and infield interviews change the feel of the show, and why the best racing experience is built like an amusement park, not a lecture. The conversation goes deeper into women in motorsports and why representation matters at every level of track operations. Brina highlights women in key roles, reflects on a scary crash that reshaped her perspective on safety and family, and explains how theme nights like school bus races, agriculture night, first responders night, and a suicide prevention “Never Alone” night can bring new people into the stands and make them feel welcome. If you care about dirt track racing, motorsports marketing, fan engagement, and the next generation of women leading the sport, this one is for you.Subscribe, share this with a racing friend, and leave a review telling us what part of the track experience keeps you coming back.Support the showFACEBOOK:INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/womensmotorsportsnetwork/LINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melindarussell/TIKTOK: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melindarussell/https://www.patreon.com/posts/womens-network-144773298X: https://x.com/IWMANationFACEBOOK Personal Page: https://www.facebook.com/melinda.ann.russell

In this jam-packed episode of What's On Your Mind, host Scott Hennen navigates a world in transition. From the front lines of the forgotten war in Ukraine to the high-stakes internal politics of the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, we explore the stories that mainstream media ignores. Scott sits down with ag-tech pioneer Howard Dahl for a boots-on-the-ground look at Russia's military failings and the cutting-edge drone technology changing the face of warfare. Closer to home, North Dakota's new Superintendent of Public Instruction, Levi Bachmeier, discusses his 50-school tour and the fight for fact-based, patriotic curriculum. We also hear a heartbreaking and infuriating account of a Grand Forks family's battle for justice against a lenient judge following the death of their six-year-old daughter. Plus, a deep dive into the latest tax refund metrics, a look at Minnesota's "Land of 10,000 Frauds," and a lesson in "pasty butt" from the world of agriculture. Standout Moments & Timestamps [00:01:03] – Russia's Face-Saving Exit? Howard Dahl explains why Vladimir Putin may have realized his mistake within 30 days of invading Ukraine and how 21% interest rates are crippling the Russian economy. [00:05:30] – The $1,000 Drone vs. The $10 Million Plane A fascinating look at how Ukrainian engineers—with help from a brilliant Fargo native—are using fiber optics and direct-wire drones to bypass Russian jamming signals. [00:09:40] – Boots on the Ground in ND Schools Superintendent Levi Bachmeier shares insights from his visits to 50 North Dakota schools, from the four-student district in Marmarth to the 14,000-student system in Bismarck. [00:12:48] – Facts vs. Feelings in the Classroom Bachmeier tackles a listener's question on gender roles and biology, advocating for a curriculum grounded in the Enlightenment and common sense rather than "feelings-based" instruction. [00:15:20] – Justice for Katarina Nicole Luthain and Robert Withers share the gut-wrenching story of their daughter's death at the hands of a drunk driver and their quest to remove a judge they label as "dishonorable." Host Scott Hennen counts down to America's 250th anniversary with a deep dive into North Dakota's crowning contribution: the upcoming Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Scott challenges the "ho-hum" attitude toward the project, explaining why this interactive museum in Medora is set to become a global destination and a powerful symbol of American resilience. The episode moves from historical legacies to modern-day battlegrounds as Scott welcomes a heavy-hitting lineup of guests. Minnesota Senate candidate and battle-tested warrior Adam Swarzi joins the show to discuss the strategic importance of the Iranian blockade and the "trillions in fraud" still lurking beneath the surface of government spending. VA Secretary Doug Collins provides an exclusive "report card" on veterans' care, detailing how the administration has slashed the claims backlog from 260,000 to 80,000 in record time. Finally, the show tackles the alarming rise of global Christian persecution and the economic shift of "de-dollarization" with experts Martin Moyer and David Fisher. Standout Moments: [00:01:20] The Jewel of the Badlands: Scott highlights the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, opening July 4th, 2026, featuring AI-interactive versions of TR and artifacts like his deeply personal 1884 diary. [00:06:55] A Tradition of Presidents: A look at why every living U.S. president is traditionally expected to attend the library's opening in Medora. [00:09:40] Energy Independence: Senate candidate Adam Swarzi reflects on the "Abraham Accords" and argues that the current Iran policy is the only way to stop OPEC from holding Americans hostage for energy. [00:14:40] The Navy SEAL Standard: Swarzi discusses his nine deployments and the "no-fail" mindset he plans to bring to the U.S. Senate. [00:20:21] The Man in the Arena: A stirring reading of Teddy Roosevelt's most famous rhetorical triumph on the value of the doer over the critic. [00:22:45] VA Breakthroughs: Secretary Doug Collins details the expansion of "Community Care" and the opening of 34 new clinics, including locations in Williston and Grand Forks. [00:24:50] Moving at "Trump Speed": Collins explains how re-industrializing the VA bureaucracy has cut wait times from over 130 days down to 70. [00:28:45] The Global Silence: Martin Moyer of the Christian Action Network discusses the "Palm Sunday Massacre" in Nigeria and why Christian persecution often fails to make front-page news. [00:32:45] The De-Dollarization Trend: David Fisher of Landmark Gold warns about the shift away from the petrodollar and why France recently moved 129 tons of gold…
Host Scott Hennen dives into a puzzling political shift in the "Red State" of North Dakota, where a citizen-led initiative for universal free school meals is gaining massive traction despite the state's conservative roots. Scott questions why 80% of North Dakotans seem ready to enshrine free lunch into the state constitution and talks to frustrated callers about the potential for long-term fiscal fallout and "fraud funnels." The conversation shifts gears to the "silent war on truckers" with guest Gordon McGill, a third-generation trucker and author of End of the Road. McGill breaks down how bad policy, non-domiciled CDL loopholes, and a "fake" driver shortage narrative are destabilizing American roads. Later, Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak joins from D.C. to discuss the government shutdown, her push to stop pay for members of Congress during such events, and her recent trade delegation to Taiwan. Finally, "The Money Man" Brien Krank stops by to explain why the stock market is shrugging off Iranian blockades and how AI continues to be the primary engine of the current bull market. Standout Moments: [00:01:25] The "Kumbaya" Lunch Initiative: Scott reacts to the 57,000 signatures gathered to put universal free school meals on the North Dakota ballot, questioning why a wealthy state is seeking government-funded lunch for all. [00:08:45] Inside the War on Truckers: Author Gordon McGill explains the "Trucking Action Plan" loopholes and why the industry has a retention problem, not a shortage. [00:16:30] Hobby Lobby & Religious Freedom: Mark Jortsman of the ND Family Alliance previews the upcoming Faith, Family, and Freedom Gala featuring Hobby Lobby President Steve Green. [00:19:50] Hardcore Truth on Iran: A fiery caller from Grand Forks argues for "cutting the head off the snake" in Iran, leading to a discussion on Iran's admitted nuclear ambitions. [00:23:40] The "Stigma" Argument: Scott deconstructs the claim that universal meals are needed to reduce the "stigma" of poverty, arguing that modern technology already makes lunch tickets anonymous. [00:28:45] No Work, No Pay: Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak details a freshman-led bill that would prohibit members of Congress from being paid during a government shutdown. [00:32:10] Chippers in Taiwan: Fedorchak recounts her trade mission to Taiwan, where she used North Dakota's famous "Widman's Chippers" to sweeten semiconductor and beef trade talks. [00:35:15] Shrugging off the Blockade: Brien Krank explains why the stock market is rallying despite the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, citing "mother's milk" corporate earnings. [00:40:30]…
Broadcasting live from "The Hive" tech accelerator in Grand Forks, host Scott Hennen dives deep into the rapidly shifting landscape of national defense and cultural identity. This "America 250 Countdown" edition tackles the sobering reality of modern warfare—where $1,000 drones can take out million-dollar military assets—and explores the "Point Defense Battle Lab" newly unveiled at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. The conversation shifts from the "tip of the spear" in North Dakota to the spiritual revival happening among Gen Z with guest Nick Hall. Later, Scott unpacks the psychological roots of "woke" ideology with Dr. John Mills, discussing how social justice has transformed from a push for fairness into a tool for identity politics. From impeachment talks in Minnesota to "fancy like" date nights at Applebee's, this episode covers the heavy, the holy, and the hopeful. Standout Moments [00:01] The Death of Big Military Scott discusses his visit to the Grand Forks Air Force Base, explaining how the era of "big, heavy things" like massive planes is being replaced by the nanosecond precision of drone warfare. [00:08] The Modern Billy Graham Evangelist Nick Hall joins the show to discuss the "Pack the Shack" event in Fargo, noting a historic shift where young men are now outpacing young women in religious passion. [00:16] Radio Graffiti: The Gas Tax Holiday The phones open for "Radio Graffiti," where a listener proposes that North Dakota follow Indiana's lead by suspending the gas tax to provide relief for those living paycheck to paycheck. [00:19] Impeaching the "St. Paul Cabal" A breakdown of the newly introduced impeachment articles against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison over allegations of corrupt conduct. [00:32] Inside the Battle Lab Grand Sky founder Tom Sawyer explains how North Dakota was chosen to manage the world's drone defense procedures, moving at the "speed of necessity" to counter threats seen in Ukraine and Iran. [00:36] Unpacking the Woke Ideology Dr. John Mills provides a scholarly critique of social justice, defining "woke" as a "binary logic" that splits society into oppressors and victims based on identity. [00:41] Hypocrisy or Integrity? Scott responds to a listener's jab about Donald Trump using mail-in ballots while simultaneously criticizing the system's integrity.

It is a packed Tuesday edition of What's On Your Mind. Host Scott Hennen is fresh off a trip to Grand Forks for the "State of the Base" address, where he's joined by Senator Kevin Cramer to discuss a massive win for North Dakota military history: securing a Minuteman III missile for the state's military museum. The duo also dives deep into the "Schumer Shutdown" and the frustrating legislative battle over funding ICE and Border Patrol. Later, we meet the newly selected 16th President of NDSU, Dr. Marshall Stewart. We hear his bold vision for "learners for life" and his goal to supercharge student retention. The episode wraps with a vital "Trooper Talk" segment featuring Captain Brian Niewin of the North Dakota Highway Patrol, discussing the real-world impact of the state's primary seatbelt law and tips for de-winterizing your trailers as spring approaches. Standout Moments & Timestamps [00:01:45] A 60-Foot Legacy Senator Kevin Cramer explains the persistence required to secure a retired Minuteman III missile for the North Dakota Military Museum before the building's walls were finished, highlighting the state's massive role in the U.S. nuclear triad. [00:05:50] The Middle East & Gas Price Fatigue Cramer addresses the "war fatigue" regarding Iran, arguing that while short-term pain at the pump is real, "cutting the head off the snake" now is a necessary bargain for long-term global liberty. [00:15:30] Introducing President Marshall Stewart Listen to the first official comments from NDSU's 16th President. Dr. Stewart discusses his "perfect effort" philosophy and why he views students as customers who deserve an elite experience. [00:19:30] Moving the Needle on Enrollment Dr. Stewart sets a bold target to increase NDSU's retention rate from 70% to 90%, emphasizing internships, global mindsets, and lifelong learning credentials. [00:21:45] Grand Forks: The Tip of the Spear Senator Scott Meyer and Mayor Brandon Bochenski discuss the "State of the Base," the new Point Defense Battle Lab, and why Grand Forks is the leading ecosystem for counter-unmanned aviation. [00:30:15] D.C. Update with Julie Fedorchak Congresswoman Fedorchak joins from Devil's Lake to blast House and Senate gridlock, explaining why the House rejected a Senate bill that "completely zeroed out" funding for ICE and Border Patrol. [00:35:40] Vision Zero & Driver Behavior Captain Brian Niewin breaks down why 96% of crashes are preventable and how the drive to reach zero fatalities depends entirely on changing driver behavior, not just engineering better roads.…

For nearly two decades, HRT carried a shadow. After the early interpretation of the Women's Health Initiative study in the 1990s, the message across medicine was clear: hormones were dangerous.Millions of women were left in a “hormone desert,” navigating menopause with little more than advice to just grin and bear it.But recently, the initiative was reassessed, and the data tells a far more nuanced story. HRT may play an important role in improving symptoms and supporting cognitive and mental health during midlife. The problem is: the mindset around HRT may now be swinging just as dramatically in the opposite direction.Scroll through social media, and you might believe every woman should be on HRT. Brain fog, mood swings, poor sleep, weight changes, and hormones are increasingly framed as the universal solution. But menopause isn't a single experience, and hormone therapy isn't a single intervention. Some women benefit enormously from it, while others may not need it at all.So how should women and their physicians approach hormone therapy? What do we know about HRT and its effects on mental health? In this episode, I'm joined by the physician president of Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates and menopause-society certified practitioner, Dr. Krista Olsen. We explore how the medical understanding of HRT has evolved and what the evidence actually says about mood, cognition, and mental health during menopause.Things You'll Learn In This Episode From common treatment to medical tabooThe Women's Health Initiative reshaped women's medicine almost overnight. How did its interpretation leave an entire generation of women navigating menopause without support?HRT isn't a one-size-fits-all solutionHormone therapy is increasingly being framed as a universal solution for midlife women. When everyone is told they should be on HRT, what important clinical questions risk getting overlooked?Hormone depletion vs. hormone fluctuationMany of the most disruptive symptoms of perimenopause come from dramatic hormonal swings, not simply low estrogen. How does that distinction change how clinicians approach treatment?Symptom-based care matters more than hormone levelsIn an era of hormone testing kits and online wellness protocols, many women are being told to “optimize” their hormones. But what happens when treatment focuses on numbers instead of lived experience?About the GuestDr. Krista Olsen is the Physician President for Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates and a Board Member of i-Health. According to an AI analysis touted by thrice-failed statewide candidate Rick Becker, who is currently seeking a seat in the state Legislature in District 7, I'm a narcissist with obsessive compulsive disorder because I write too many articles about him. Is that an accurate diagnosis, or is this a case of yet another whiny politician trying to throw dirt on apt criticisms? We discussed it on this episode of Plain Talk, and whille me and co-host Chad Oban didn't agree with the criticism, we did find Becker's method to be a creative one, if perhaps more reflective of his mental state than mine. Also, Sen. Kevin Cramer recently wrote a letter to the editor criticizing me for suggesting that former Sec. of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (who is now apparently one of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or something?) was scapegoated for the Trump administration's disastrous application of immigration policies in Minnesota and beyond. Oban argues that the rampant fraud in Minnesota's safety net programs which ended Gov. Tim Walz's political career ended up being overshadowed by the too-aggressive tactics engaged in by ICE. "I think the fraud thing would have also killed Penny Flanigan's, his lieutenant governor, race for US Senate if it hadn't been for the ICE thing," Oban said. "And now she's back up in the polls against Angie Craig for that Senate primary, because there's less focus on the fraud and more focus on the ICE piece." "I think it was just a weird pitch for Cramer to swing at here," he continued. Also on this episode, we discuss the war in Iran, and the potential blowback we may face in economic challenges and terrorism, as well as Sec. of Defense Pete Hegseth's status as a callow, fragile poseur who has no business in his current job. Plus, North Dakotans are still paying a local price for federal dysfunction as a local domestic violence nonprofit in Grand Forks faces hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue shortfalls due to delays in federal funding. If you want to participate in Plain Talk, just give us a call or text at 701-587-3141. In this explosive Tuesday edition of What's On Your Mind, host Scott Hennen takes listeners inside the Oval Office and the front lines of a rapidly shifting global landscape. As Operation Epic Fury enters its fourth day, President Donald Trump delivers a fireside briefing alongside the German Chancellor, detailing the decimation of Iran's military infrastructure and the "colossal threat" that was narrowly averted. The episode pulls back the curtain on the "4-D chess" being played—from choking off oil supplies to China and Russia to the high-tech logistics of drone warfare being developed right in North Dakota. With expert analysis from Grand Sky's Tom Sawyer on the future of air defense and Senator John Hoeven on the legislative battle for the SAVE Act, this show breaks down why the "yapping chihuahuas" in the mainstream media are missing the forest for the trees. Standout Moments & Timestamps [00:01:28] – Fireside in the Oval Office President Trump addresses the media, explaining that Israel didn't force his hand—he may have forced theirs. He details the "stunning level of evil" that led Iran to strike neutral countries and civilian hotels before their air protections were obliterated. [00:08:16] – The $4 Million Missile Problem Tom Sawyer, CEO of Grand Sky, joins the show to discuss the logistical nightmare of "asymmetric warfare." He explains the unsustainable cost of using $4 million missiles to shoot down $25,000 mass-produced Iranian drones and how Grand Forks is becoming the epicenter for a solution. [00:14:58] – Choking the Octopus Global security expert Michael Letts breaks down the strategic "checkmate" against China. By liberating Venezuela and striking Iran, the U.S. has effectively choked off China's primary oil reserves, forcing a global economic realignment. [00:20:29] – The 118-Year Game A deep-dive analysis into the "British financial architecture" in the Middle East. Scott explores how the current strikes are not just about nukes, but about dismantling a century-old system of managed regional chaos profitable to the City of London. [00:25:25] – The Masterclass in Resentment Robert F. Kennedy Jr. provides a surprising "masterclass" on dealing with critics, recounting a gym confrontation where he viewed a screaming protester as a "gift" from God to keep him humble. [00:31:11] – Kristi Noem's DHS Bombshell Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testifies before the Senate, revealing that the government under the previous administration was paying sponsors who were knowingly trafficking and abusing migrant…

The episode covers exercises, vendor collaboration, and the evolving threats posed by small unmanned aerial systems. Also included: local political updates on school lunch funding and budgets, community development at Grand Sky, and lighter moments about family, sports, and everyday life in North Dakota.

In this high-energy President's Day broadcast, Scott Hennen takes the show on the road to "The Hive" in Grand Forks, North Dakota—a burgeoning tech accelerator at the heart of America's UAS and space revolution. The episode explores how North Dakota is transforming into a national security powerhouse, featuring deep dives into counter-drone technology, quantum computing, and the state's growing "Space Valley" ecosystem. Beyond the tech, Scott honors the holiday by reflecting on the leadership of George Washington and modern-day impacts of the presidency. The program also features a final, staggering tally from Giving Hearts Day and an inspiring "Salute to Service" highlighting how local Lions Clubs are saving the vision of North Dakota's children. It's an episode that bridges the gap between the founding of a nation and its high-tech future. Standout Moments & Timestamps [00:05:15] Countering the Bad Actors Tom Sawyer, president of Grand Sky, breaks down the massive shift in military focus toward "Counter UAS." He explains how North Dakota is leading the charge in detecting and tracking the "bad drones" that threaten domestic infrastructure and high-profile events like the Super Bowl. [00:09:11] What is Quantum, Anyway? Tony Belzano of Q-Station attempts to explain quantum computing to the non-technologist. The discussion covers how "extreme computing" will allow drones to prioritize 40 simultaneous threats in a nanosecond—a capability that is both exciting and terrifying. [00:15:30] The Modern vs. Founding President Scott Hennen shares his personal reflections on President's Day, naming Donald Trump the most impactful president of his lifetime while offering a moving tribute to George Washington's decision to "stop serving" and return to his vine and fig tree. [00:26:25] Radios Where Verizon Won't Go Cody Larson of Persistent Systems, a Park River native, showcases the MPU-5 radio technology. He explains how these "mobile ad hoc networks" provide life-saving communication redundancy for nuclear deterrence missions and hurricane rescue efforts. [00:30:15] Following the Dark Money A startling segment featuring congressional testimony from Josh Hawley's hearing reveals that over $60 million in "shadow money" from NGO networks has been funneled into coordinated protest and riot activity in Minnesota. [00:31:45] $31 Million for Giving Hearts Pat Traynor of the Dakota Medical Foundation joins for the final Giving Hearts Day recap. He reveals that 40,000 donors generated over 70,000 donations, hitting a massive milestone of $228 million raised since the event's inception in 2008. [00:35:10] The First Family's Passion Governor Kelly Armstrong and…

From the Army redesignating a unit to lead jungle warfare training in Panama, 101st Airborne air assaults with Marine Ospreys, and a stolen shaped charge at Fort Leonard Wood, to ISR business jets, the USS John F. Peaches also breaks down foreign pilot training inside the U.S., a new counter-drone battle lab, NSA leadership nominations, JAGs acting as federal prosecutors, Iran's laughable propaganda, China's national “total war” strategy, and why the UK trusting Beijing defies logic.
