La paroisse de la Sainte-Famille à Gaza était « un dernier refuge pour environ un demi-millier de Gazaouis », elle a été bombardée jeudi vers 10 heures du matin, « lors d'un raid de l'armée israélienne », écrit La Croix. Selon le Patriarcat latin de Jérusalem, l'attaque a fait « trois morts et dix blessés, dont le curé de la paroisse, le père Gabriel Romanelli ». « Un obus d'artillerie tiré par un char israélien a touché le toit, provoquant l'effondrement d'une partie de la façade », rapporte La Repubblica. Au sommet de l'édifice, la croix, elle est restée « incroyablement intacte » mais dans la cour, « sous les décombres gisent les corps de Saad, 60 ans, le portier de la paroisse et de deux fidèles, Foumia, 82 ans et Najwa 69 ans ». Le curé de la paroisse, le père Gabriel, décrit la journée de jeudi comme « l'un des jours les plus difficiles d'une période déjà très difficile. Nous sommes sous le choc. Nous sommes terrifiés. Nous sommes inquiets. Mais c'est notre foyer et nous ne partirons pas », voilà le message qu'il a fait passer à ceux qui ont réussi à lui parler, rapporte toujours La Repubblica qui retrace le parcours de ce prêtre argentin, « bloqué à Jérusalem après le 7 octobre et qui a tout fait pour retourner auprès de sa communauté dévastée par la guerre ». Jeudi soir, il était « de retour à l'église, célébrant la messe », poursuit le quotidien italien. L'armée israélienne, elle, affirme avoir touché par erreur le bâtiment « Sous la pression de Donald Trump, Benyamin Netanyahu dit qu'il regrette le bombardement par erreur d'une église à Gaza », titre le Times of Israël. Un peu plus tôt, « la porte-parole de la Maison Blanche avait déclaré aux journalistes lors d'un point presse que le président américain avait téléphoné au Premier ministre israélien après avoir été informé de la frappe ». Selon l'armée israélienne, des éclats d'obus auraient touché « par erreur » le bâtiment, affirme le quotidien israélien Haaretz. « Le ministère israélien des Affaires étrangères a déclaré que les résultats de l'enquête militaire seraient publiés de manière transparente », précise le Washington Post. Le pape Léon XIV a réitéré son appel à un cessez-le-feu immédiat à Gaza. « L'attaque contre l'église de la Sainte-Famille a également été vivement condamnée par les responsables politiques italiens, poursuit le quotidien américain. La Première ministre italienne, Giorgia Meloni, a été l'une des premières à confirmer l'attaque contre l'église » et a déclaré que « les attaques contre la population civile menées par Israël depuis des mois sont inacceptables. Aucune action militaire ne peut justifier un tel comportement ». En Syrie, le réveil des traumatismes communautaires Après les frappes israéliennes, « dans les rues de la capitale, le sentiment d'un divorce entre les communautés se fait de plus en plus prégnant », écrit le quotidien libanais L'Orient-Le Jour. Les reporters décrivent une ville où il n'y a pas grand monde dans les rues. « À travers la capitale syrienne, deux sentiments s'entrechoquent. Celui d'avoir subi un "rappel à l'ordre israélien" à travers ces frappes alors que des négociations pour un accord de sécurité (a minima) avec le pays voisin s'accélèrent depuis ces dernières semaines. Mais aussi celui d'un divorce entre les communautés se faisant de plus en plus prégnant, malgré les tentatives de stabilisation ». Dans les rues de Jaramana, en périphérie de Damas, où réside une forte majorité druze, Mahaa estime que « la société syrienne ne se remettra pas de toutes ses fractures ». Un peu plus loin, Firas, raconte qu'un « ami de vingt ans, un sunnite d'Alep, l'a supprimé de ses contacts depuis mercredi. (…) Il n'y a plus d'avenir entre nos deux communautés », conclut-il. Mohammad, un habitant sunnite, a envoyé sa femme se réfugier « chez des voisins chrétiens » lors des affrontements en avril, parce qu'il ne « fait plus confiance aux druzes ». Champion du « ne rien faire » Denis Kwan Hong-Wang est le champion du monde du « ne rien faire ». Il a remporté à Hong Kong, la compétition Space Out qui consiste à rester assis sans bouger pendant 90 minutes, « sans sommeil, sans faire de bruit, sans vérifier son téléphone », précise le Guardian. There have been Christians in the Holy Land for two thousand years; “we are the first church,” says Father Firas Abedrabbo who is from Bethlehem and works in Ramallah. He studied law in France and speaks excellent English and spoke with me about his experience as a priest in Palestine (the West Bank) during the Gaza War. We talk politics and history, but we also talk about how people in the middle of a war can see God's love and His participation in our daily lives, even (or perhaps especially) in our darkest hours.
