AND FINALLYHollywood's Biggest Faceplants: The 10 Most Disappointing Flops of 20252025 had its hits, but let's be honest—it was also a year where some massive blockbusters crashed and burned. From superhero fatigue to Oscar-bait that nobody bit on, here's a look at the ten movies that just couldn't get audiences into seats this year. 1. Thunderboltsa. Marvel is definitely feeling the pain. While this movie made nearly $400 million, that's peanuts compared to the glory days of Avengers: Endgame. It suffered from the same problem as Captain America: Brave New World: it just felt like reheated leftovers from a saga that ended years ago. Aside from Superman, it looks like superhero fatigue has officially set in. 1. Snow Whitea. This was the exception to the rule that Disney remakes print money. It didn't even make back its budget. The movie had an identity crisis—trying to be both a classic recreation and a subversive twist—but the real killer was the PR nightmare. Between the casting controversies and political debates, the movie was "covered in mud" before it even hit theaters. 1. Mickey 17a. Everyone was dying to see what director Bong Joon Ho would do after Parasite. The problem? We waited too long. After endless delays, the hype died. When it finally dropped in February, reviews called it "toothless" and confused. Even Robert Pattinson couldn't save this sci-fi epic from being a disappointment. 1. After the Hunta. You'd think Julia Roberts and the director of Call Me by Your Name would be a slam dunk. Nope. It made less than $10 million globally (which is like, half of Roberts' salary). The movie was too long, too rambling, and felt more like a streaming series than a cinema event. 1. Christya. Sydney Sweeney is everywhere, but apparently, that doesn't guarantee box office sales. Her boxing biopic had one of the worst opening weekends ever for a wide release. It seems social media fame doesn't always translate to ticket sales. Sweeney defended it, saying she made it for "impact," not numbers, which is good, because the numbers were bad. 1. I Know What You Did Last Summera. Studios thought they could pull a Scream with this 90s revival. The issue? People actually love Scream. Nobody really cares about "The Fisherman" or the original 1997 film enough to show up for a legacy sequel. 1. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowherea. Jeremy Allen White played The Boss, but audiences didn't show up. Why? Because the movie focused on a depressing, quiet period of Bruce Springsteen's life where he moped around a bedroom recording acoustic tracks. People wanted the stadium anthems and energy, not the gloom. 1. Elio a. Pixar had a huge win with Inside Out 2, but Elio brought them back down to earth. The original director left mid-production, and the final product felt like a movie with no reason to exist. It was hard to explain the plot, and audiences just didn't connect with the aliens. 1. M3GAN 2.0a. The first M3GAN was a viral hit because it was campy, slasher fun. The sequel failed because it tried to pivot into a sprawling, geopolitical action thriller. The producers admitted they overthought it—they should have just given the people more of the killer doll they loved. 1. The Smashing Machinea. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson really wants an Oscar. He teamed up with Emily Blunt and an indie director for this gritty MMA drama. But here's the thing: nobody goes to a Rock movie to be depressed. It was a bleak story about addiction, and audiences preferred to stay home. Where the Captain America trailer played much like a silent film, this one gives us a monologue's worth of dialogue from Thor as he prays for strength to fight one last enemy. On the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast this week, Ryan Coogler detailed what Black Panther 2 might have been before the death of Chadwick Boseman. T'Challa and his young son would have fought Namor side by side, with Namor being an “insanely dangerous” version of the character. Coogler reiterated that the film they made meant he “got a chance to make a movie about women…I love that movie so much.” Boseman was too ill to even read the original script that Coogler finished. Though he's working on resurrecting The X-Files for television, Coogler said of Black Panther 3 that he has “this movie on my heart.” With a fairly quiet Christmas at the box office, Avatar: Fire and Ash continued to wear the crown, climbing to a global total of $760 million, while A24's Marty Supreme starring Timothee Chalamet had a studio best opening to $27.1 million. Other films with big names opened including Anaconda featuring Paul Rudd and Jack Black; The Housemaid, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney; and Song Sung Blue, which was star-studded with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. Happy New Year half listeners! If you lived up to our standards and barely listened to us all year - even if you tuned in - this one is the perfect round up of everything we thought about this year. After 13 minutes of talking about coffee/breakfast (and then a good few more recapping our mostly banal Christmas celebrations), we get into our annual discussion of our own choices from Throwing Fits' Fitties Awards, covering:Brand/collab/jawnz of the year, with everything ranging from Nick's triple threat 3sixteen collab jeans, to Our Legacy, Aaron Levine, Madewell, Zara, and Blundstone. Trend of the year, not any of their options, but maybe AI slop takes the cake, and it will always be true that trends are no more.Best timeline takeover, could be the overwhelming news stories of the year, from Charlie Kirk to Epstein, or it could be the thing from the timeline that jumped into real life (six-sevennnn).Best movie, where Alex recaps movies and Nick goes 'hmm, yeah, I see'.Best TV, which for quality has to be The Pitt, but Love Island USA, Severance, the Sean Combs Reckoning, among others competed for the public consciousness. Biggest Bozo, either the guys responsible for the trickle down of shit 2025 had to offer (Trump/Netanyahu), or those who took the biggest L's, Andrew Cuomo and Sydney Sweeney. Goat of the year, a bit of the inverse, gotta be Friedland or Mamdani, but definitely not Taylor Greene.Musical artist of the year, where Nick recaps his Tidal Rewind and Alex goes 'hmm, yeah, I see'.And then we exchange gifts because it (was) Christmas.

This past year wasn't easy—but it was certainly eventful. Donald Trump returned to the White House, issued a record number of executive orders, deployed the National Guard to American cities—like LA and D.C.—imposed sweeping tariffs on all our trading partners, gutted the government with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and unleashed a massive crackdown on immigration. But that was only the beginning. The administration also reached a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas—and all the living hostages came home from Gaza. Israel and the United States struck Iran's nuclear sites. We got the first American pope. And we haven't even started listing the pop-culture moments, like the Sydney Sweeney jeans ad, the Travis Kelce–Taylor Swift engagement, or when Lauren Sánchez Bezos and Katy Perry went to space. There was truly so much, and if we kept going we'd be here all day. But this, after all, is a prediction episode. So what will 2026 bring? Bari and Free Press deputy editor Olly Wiseman called up some friends of the pod—and experts in their fields—to get a better sense of what's in store for the year ahead. They spoke to political analyst and legal expert Sarah Isgur, who told them what to expect in Trump's second year; to Suzy Weiss on the cultural calendar ahead; to linguist John McWhorter on how new words and language will evolve; to Dr. Mark Hyman on how to get healthier in 2026; to writer and fashionista Leandra Medine Cohen on fashion trends to watch for; and to historian Niall Ferguson on whether or not we're right to have nightmares about World War III. I've been covering Amanda Seyfried's work consistently since starting my career — particularly starting the best part of my career, focusing on interviews. In fact, one of my very first press days was for Atom Egoyan's Chloe, which Seyfried headlines alongside Julianne Moore. With every press day that followed, I was constantly struck by Seyfried's general warmth and her passion for her work, but especially by her openness while talking about it. About 25 years into her career, I'm still wowed by those same qualities, but a new one surfaced during our latest conversation, our very first Collider Ladies Night interview. It's the importance Seyfried puts on being there for actors on the rise, like her The Housemaid co-star, Sydney Sweeney. The two star in the highly anticipated adaptation of Freida McFadden's incredibly popular novel. Sweeney plays Millie, a young woman who accepts a job working as a housemaid for Seyfried's character, Nina Winchester, and her family. Initially, it seems like a dream gig. The Winchester home is beautiful and Nina appears to be a lovely employer. However, on day one of the job, things take a turn. Or rather, Nina takes a turn.In celebration of The Housemaid's release this weekend, and The Testament of Ann Lee's upcoming rollout, Seyfried joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to discuss the experiences that led her to this moment — a truly exceptional moment during which she has two wildly different films hitting theaters at about the same time, both featuring breathtaking work from her. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Just how are you going to pass the time on Christmas Day after you've got the roast in the oven (at low temp, of course) and you've finished your obligatory annual screening of Die Hard? How about a special Christmas Day edition of the Three Whisky Happy Hour! Lucretia took time out from the kitchen to host this ad-free episode which features a discussion of the law governing religious symbols on public property, and why they are NOT violations of the Estasblishment Clause of the First Amendment (the phrase "separation of church and state" is not even hiding in any of the emanantions an punumbras of the Constitution, so don't even look). Discussion also turned to wondering why liberals are increasingly hostile to religion—especially Christianity—and Steve offers his theory that the decline of patriotism among liberals, which also shows up in opinion survey data, is connected to the decline of religion among liberals, too. (He gave the full analysis of the matter in this Substack post a few months ago. One sentence summary: politics, the substitute diety for the left, isn't going well for them right now, which makes them angry.) And did you know that Christmas itself is now a"far right" plot? That's what Politico thinks. (Yes, we know: "Politico thinks" is an oxymoron.)We manage to get in some good holiday cheer, such as mocking John's total ignorance of "throuples" *the latest thing for the "Modern Love" section of the NY Times) and we manage to get in our obligatory reference to—wait for it!—the Clean Air Act, and Sydney Sweeney. TV and Movie Reviews to Listen to Around the Yule Log This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl talk about a couple movies the saw this week in individual mini-reviews (Avatar: Fire & Ash and The Housemaid). Then breakdown season 2 episode 1 of Fallout. Then give a review of HIM. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Avatar: Fire and Ash: 12:35 The Housemaid: 25:05 Fallout: 34:18 HIM: 49:41 Avatar: FIre and Ash (2025) Rating Out 10 It’s the Third Movie and It’s Fine… it’s Fine Darryl: 6.2/10 Summary Avatar: Fire and Ash expands the world of Pandora by pushing the story into darker, more volatile territory. This chapter introduces a new Na'vi culture shaped not by water or forest, but by fire, ash, and survival in a brutal volcanic region of the moon. These clans challenge everything Jake Sully and Neytiri believe about what it means to live in balance with Pandora. As tensions rise between Na'vi factions and the ever-encroaching human presence, the film shifts from a clear-cut nature-vs-invaders narrative into something far more morally complex. Fire and Ash explores how trauma, rage, and vengeance can fracture even the most deeply spiritual societies, forcing characters to confront uncomfortable truths about leadership, legacy, and the cost of endless war. Visually, the film leans hard into contrast. Lush blues and greens give way to scorched landscapes, molten rock, and smoke-filled skies, creating a harsher, angrier version of Pandora that mirrors the emotional state of its characters. At its core, Fire and Ash is about consequence. Not just for humanity's actions, but for the choices the Na'vi themselves make when survival demands brutality. This entry reframes the Avatar saga as less of a mythic adventure and more of a generational reckoning, setting the stage for a future where Pandora's greatest threat may no longer come from the stars, but from within. The Housemaid (2025) Rating Out of 10 The Dad Who Rocks the Cradle Brian: 6.5/10 Summary The Housemaid is a 2025 American psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig, adapted from Freida McFadden's bestselling 2022 novel. It stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a troubled young woman recently released on probation who desperately needs steady work. When she lands a live-in housemaid job with the wealthy Winchester family on Long Island, things initially seem like a fresh start. But behind the manicured lawns and spacious rooms, the Winchesters' life is anything but perfect. Millie soon discovers that Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) is temperamental and volatile, her daughter Cecilia is cold and disrespectful, and unsettling secrets lurk beneath the surface of this elite household. As Millie becomes more entangled in their lives, the film steadily shifts from domestic drama to a gripping, twist-heavy thriller where trust is scarce and danger hides in plain sight. The tension escalates when Millie realizes that the family dynamics are far darker than she suspected, leading to shocking betrayals and a violent confrontation that upends everything the audience thought they knew. The Housemaid blends suspense, psychological games, and interpersonal manipulation in a holiday season release that delivers both unpredictable twists and intense character play. Fallout (Amazon Prime) Season 2 Episode 1 Title: The Innovator Directed by: Frederick E. O. Toye Written by: Geneva Robertson-Dworet & Graham Wagner Date Aired: December 16, 2025 Summary In 2077, before the war, a man supportive of Robert House, CEO of RobCo Industries, implants a control chip in a bar patron, forcing him to murder his companions before the chip detonates. After uncovering Vault-Tec’s secret plans, actor Cooper Howard attempts to flee with his daughter Janey, but Lee Moldaver convinces him to stay and spy on his wife Barb, who is traveling to Las Vegas to meet House. In 2296, Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul kill a group of Great Khans while tracking Lucy’s father, Hank, which leads them to the abandoned Vault 24, where they discover a Vault-Tec experiment using chips for brainwashing; a man with a chip implanted briefly speaks to Lucy before the chip explodes. Trapped in Vault 31, Norm, without food or water, awakens cryogenically preserved Vault-Tec executives. In Vault 32, Overseer Steph struggles with leadership, while in Vault 33, Overseer Betty supervises repairs to the water chip. Meanwhile, Hank arrives at an abandoned Vault-tec facility and leaves a message for an unknown figure that he will finish his project. Rating Out of 5 Exploding Heads for Everyone Darryl: 3.35/5 Brian: 3.2/5 HIM (2025) Summary HIM is a psychological horror film that uses the world of elite sports to explore obsession, identity, and the dangerous cost of chasing greatness. The story follows a promising young football player whose talent earns him access to a rare and secretive mentorship under a legendary athlete. What begins as an opportunity of a lifetime slowly reveals itself to be something far more disturbing. As the mentorship deepens, the film peels back the glossy surface of fame and success, exposing a culture that treats athletes as assets rather than people. Training pushes beyond discipline into control, blurring the line between motivation and manipulation. The closer the protagonist gets to his dream, the more he begins to lose his sense of self. Rather than relying on jump scares, HIM builds dread through atmosphere and psychological pressure. The horror comes from systems, power dynamics, and the unspoken expectation that personal sacrifice is the price of excellence. The film questions how far someone is willing to go to be “chosen” and what parts of themselves they are expected to surrender along the way. At its core, HIM is a cautionary tale about hero worship and the myth of meritocracy, wrapped in a slow-burn horror framework. It leaves the audience unsettled not by monsters, but by the realization that the most terrifying forces are often the ones we willingly submit to in the pursuit of success. Rating Out of 10 QB1 Blood is Waaaaay Better Than WR2 Blood Darryl: 5.2/10 Brian: 5.7/10 Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media.
