In the wake of the recently published Memorandum of Understanding between the White House and the Iranian regime, Aimen and Thomas explore what the MoU means and reflect on everything they got wrong about the Iran War. They discuss: How the MoU is a strategic lifeline for the Islamic Republic How it legitimises Iran's proxy network, from Hezbollah to the Houthis How billions in frozen Iranian funds have already been released through Qatar — with American approval How the proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran has corruption written all over it How it enshrines the principle that Iran can charge for access to the Strait of Hormuz Whether Netanyahu lured Trump into a war he did not fully understand The collapse of the Abraham Accords' vision for a new Middle East If Conflicted itself has misread Trump, populism, and the future of American power Join the Conflicted Community here: https://conflicted.supportingcast.fm/ Find us on X: https://x.com/MHconflicted And Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MHconflicted And Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/conflictedpod Learn more about your ad choices. This episode is presented by Create A Video – President Donald Trump spoke at the G7 conference in France about the "deal" with Iran. The details of the Memorandum of Understanding have not yet been disclosed, but from media reports on the vague language, it seems to me like this is all a stall tactic until the midterm US elections.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-pete-kaliner-show--6946691/support.Subscribe to the podcast My preferred podcast platform: SpreakerAll the links to Pete's Prep are free!Get exclusive content here!Media Bias Check: GroundNews promo code!Advertising and Booking inquiries: Pete@ThePeteKalinerShow.com

Anthropic pulled the plug on its Mythos / Fable 5 model after the U.S. government raised concerns, and IREN has completed its acquisition of Nostrum for 490 MW of capacity in Spain. Welcome back to The Blockspace Podcast! Anthropic and Uncle Sam are trading blows again, with the frontier LLM company pulling its recently released Mythos / Fable 5 model after whistleblowers said the model's guardrails were bypassed. Lygos Finance's CEO Jay Patel joins us for his reaction to the news and the market rally with a reported, imminent peace deal coming for the Iran War this week. For other news, we cover IREN's closing its acquisition of Nostrum, which will give it a 490 MW foothold in Spain for AI data center development, and the EPA's stance that it won't regulate AI data centers. The Iran war may be coming to an end, as Washington and Tehran prepare to sign a framework agreement later this week. That deal should reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the blockade of Iranian ports, even as it leaves unresolved the issues that brought both sides to war in the first place, including the fate of Iran's nuclear program. But policymakers in Washington and other capitals are just starting to confront the ways in which the war has transformed Iran—and how it could transform the Middle East moving forward. In a recent essay for Foreign Affairs, Narges Bajoghli and Vali Nasr argue that members of a new, emboldened generation of Iranian leaders are forging an entirely new approach to their own society, to the United States, and to the region. Dan Kurtz-Phelan spoke to Bajoghli and Nasr on June 15 about the potential implications of a deal—and about how the last three and a half months of war will shape both the Middle East's trajectory and the future of geopolitics more broadly. This episode is presented by Create A Video – It's proving very difficult to determine whether the "deal" with Iran is a good one or a complete humiliation of America because nobody has published the document. There are conflicting media reports and government statements about what the Memorandum of Understanding actually spells out other than a 60-day period of talks.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-pete-kaliner-show--6946691/support.Subscribe to the podcast My preferred podcast platform: SpreakerAll the links to Pete's Prep are free!Get exclusive content here!Media Bias Check: GroundNews promo code!Advertising and Booking inquiries: Pete@ThePeteKalinerShow.com

Today, we return to the subject of oil and the impact of the Iran War. How have flows and demand changed and why are prices so relatively low? Is this a function of great PR work on behalf of the US Administration? Or is something else happening? Why, contrary to all expectations, oil prices remain relatively subdued? And how long can this go on for? Here to answer those questions is David Wech, Chief Economist at Vortexa, the energy and shipping data and analytics firm. Is Trump's Iran War and apparent peace deal a win or another Trump headline in search of substance? President Trump is touting a new Iran deal as a major breakthrough, but lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are asking what's actually in this agreement. The reported deal comes with big promises about stability, security, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but details are scarce and even some Republicans say they'll need answers before declaring victory. We will run it past Pulitzer Prize winning author and investigative journalist David Cay Johnston. They open on Iran, breaking down the leaked 14-point "deal" circulating via Iranian state media — the $24 billion in frozen assets, the naval blockade, the Strait of Hormuz, and reconstruction demands — and why Tom is deeply skeptical that anything beyond a memorandum of understanding gets signed, plus what a bad deal could cost Trump heading into the midterms. From there, they pivot to a heated exchange over the SpaceX IPO and the Globe and Mail's "how to properly hate Elon Musk" headline, using it as a springboard into the psychology of resentment, the mechanics of transformational-tech bubbles, and a warning to retail investors about becoming "exit liquidity." The conversation moves through California's voting rules, ballot harvesting, and Trump's Save America Act and reconciliation push (with an extended back-and-forth on states' rights, the Constitution, and the Supreme Court), the UK's proposed device-level content-scanning law and the surveillance-state implications, a DOJ child-smuggling indictment tied to border policy, and the Epstein/Zorro Ranch mystery. They close on AI — unpacking Yann LeCun's argument against LLMs and AGI in favor of specialized world models — before spinning off into a wide-ranging debate about whether you'd actually want to live forever, the disposable-male hypothesis, and a contentious Alex Karp clip about GDP and gender.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The war in Iran has had some visible consequences, like skyrocketing energy costs and higher gas prices, but the effects of this war are often far less obvious and much more serious for the world's most vulnerable people. Today, Peter S. Goodman tells us what he learned on a recent trip to Somalia, and why the system of global aid is no longer in a position to help. Guest: Peter S. Goodman covers the global economy for The New York Times. Background reading: Catastrophe is emerging in the world's most vulnerable places as the war in Iran causes soaring costs for food, fuel and fertilizer.
