As people unconsciously mimic LLM-style phrasing, AI-generated patterns feed back into training data, accelerating a cultural “slopification.” This becomes a self-reinforcing loop where originality erodes, and the machine's voice slowly colonizes the human one.The human psyche operates as a tension between order mind and chaos mind. Garrett's framework maps autism and schizophrenia as pathological extremes of this duality, showing how prediction and perception interact inside consciousness—and why AI, which only simulates chaos-mind prediction, can never fully replicate human knowing.Meaning arises from presence, not abstraction. Dikke vrienden bereiken grote doelen. Voetbal-superster Cristiano Ronaldo van club Al-Nassr vergezelde de Saoedi-Arabische kroonprins Mohammed bin Salman bij zijn bezoek aan president Trump in het Witte Huis. Zij symboliseerden het succes van de dikke vriendschap van Trump met FIFA-voorzitter Gianni Infantino, die het WK van 2034 via een dubieuze procedure naar Saoedi-Arabië wist te krijgen. MBS, zoals de kroonprins wordt genoemd, was op voorhand al de grote winnaar van het bezoek aan Trump. Hij krijgt F-35 jachtvliegtuigen, mega-investeringen van de Amerikaanse tech-industrie in AI-krachtcentrales, en vooral het respect dat hij kwijt was sinds de moord op de Saoedische journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 in Istanbul. Hoewel CIA-onderzoek destijds uitwees dat MBS de moord zelf had gelast, wist Trump nu plotseling zeker dat ‘Mohammed daar niets van wist’ . Hij ging tekeer tegen journalisten die er vragen over stelden. Een vraag van ABC-verslaggever Mary Bruce noemde hij ‘afschuwelijk, onbeschoft en verschrikkelijk’. ‘ABC zou zijn uitzendvergunning moeten verliezen, jullie nieuws is zo fake en zo fout’. Het was een mooi doorkijkje in hoe Realpolitik werkt. En Trump is zeker niet de enige die deze strategie toepast. Jimmy Carter verkocht in 1976 aan de Pakistaanse dictator en moordenaar Zia Ul-Haq A-7 bommenwerpers. In 2011, tijdens de Arabische Lente werden we er plotseling aan herinnerd dat Nederland duizend pantservoertuigen van het type YPR-765 aan het Egyptische leger had verkocht, want die werden ingezet tegen protesterende burgers. In 2016 sloot de EU de Turkije-deal over de opvang van migranten. Vlak daarna overleefde president Erdogan ternauwernood een staatsgreep, en sloeg meedogenloos terug, tegen de oppositie, studenten, rechters, leraren, journalisten en al dan niet terecht van sympathie voor de in ballingschap levende geestelijke Fethulla Gülen verdachte burgers. Konden wij met zo’n man wel die Turkije-deal voorzetten? Ja, hoor, want anders gooiden de populisten de Europese regeringen voor de bus. Nog geen vier jaar geleden werd in Qatar het WK voetbal gespeeld. In de aanloop kwamen er onthullingen over de slavenarbeid door arbeidsmigranten bij de bouw van de stadions, en 6500 van hen die door hitte en uitputting het leven verloren. Voor de VS een lastig probleem, want Qatar huist ook de grootste Amerikaanse militaire basis, inclusief de regionale bevelhebber. Nederland zat te dubben: koning wél of níet naar het WK. Het is allemaal vergeten nu Qatar – hoewel hoofdsponsor van Hamas – zo’n creatieve rol speelt in het oplossen van de Midden-Oostencrisis. Vergeten en vergeven. Net als de moord op Khashoggi. Multipolarity Dialogues is a series of interviews that scan the geopolitical horizon. We talk to some of the sharpest analysts, thinkers, and experts about how they see the world beyond the visible edge of the geopolitical now.The Middle East is as violent and fractious as ever. Now the questions that arise from that violence appear more important than ever. Israel seems to want to end the chaos in a way that provides it with military dominance over the region and some semblance of peace. But can it achieve this or even survive for much longer? Given the scale of enmity it faces in the region and the recent shifts in US domestic politics. What of Egypt, which has been since the Second World War, the dominant military power within the region? And are we seeing the reemergence of Turkey to its traditional place as regional hegemon? Well, to answer these questions we have Firas Modad joining us.Firas is a Druze Lebanese convert to Catholicism, who now lives and works in the UK. As founder and principle of Modad Geopolitics, a consultancy which provides commercially relevant analysis of the effect of geopolitical change on specific regions and industry sectors. Firas for some years now, has been a mainstay geopolitical commentator on the podcast circuit and indeed hosts his own podcast, Realpolitik, within the burgeoning Lotus Eaters ecosystem.

In this episode of PING, APNIC Chief Scientist Geoff Huston explores the complex landscape of undersea cables. They have always had a component of strategic interest, communications and snooping on communications has been a constant since writing was invented, and the act of connecting two independent nation states by a telegraph wire invokes questions of ownership and jurisdiction right from the start. After the initial physics of running a long distance wire to make an electric circuit was worked out, telegraph services became a vital part of a states economic and information gathering processes. This is why at the beginning of world war 1 and again in world war 2 the submarine cables linking europe out into the world were cut by the British Navy: forcing the communications flows into radio meant it was possible to listen in, and with luck (and some smart people) decode the signals. Modern day fibre optic communications are no different in this regard. Many incidents of cable cutting have simple explanations, not all paths the subsea cables run through are especially deep and in shallow waters near landfall with lots of fish, trawlers cause a lot of damage. But there is now good reason to believe state actors are also disrupting fiber communications by breaking links, and a strong trend now to direct which sources of equipment (from the physical fibre up to the active routing systems) are used for a landfall into any given economy. This in turn is influencing the flow of capital, and the paths taken by subsea fibre systems, as a result of the competing pressures.
