On Sunday, our good friend Rick Hill was with us as we continued in the next part of our series in Luke's Gospel. This week, we unpacked this teaching of Jesus as He proclaimed the 'now-and-not-yet' of the Kingdom of God. Rick encouraged us to Embrace the Kingdom Now & Expect a Future Kingdom.Luke 17:20-37
Jesus, as the Messiah, embodies the past, present, and future hope of humanity by meeting profound spiritual and physical needs through miraculous healing and provision, demonstrating that His ministry is a foretaste of the coming eternal kingdom. The healing of the blind, lame, mute, and crippled in the Decapolis—despite the region's pagan idolatry—reveals the supremacy of the God of Israel over false gods and points to the ultimate restoration of creation, where all suffering and death will be swallowed up. The miracle of feeding 4,000 people with seven loaves and fish, occurring on a mountain reminiscent of Sinai and Zion, echoes Old Testament patterns of divine provision and foreshadows the final banquet in the new creation, where God's people will feast eternally in a healed world. These signs are not merely wonders but theological declarations: they affirm Jesus as the fulfillment of Israel's hopes, the conqueror of sin and death, and the one who inaugurates a kingdom that is both present in grace and future in glory. The sermon calls believers to live with eternal perspective, investing in souls, stewarding earthly realities as shadows of the eternal, and organizing their lives around the hope of Christ's return, while urging unbelievers to repent and place their faith in Him for eternal life.
A cedar branch plucked by an eagle becomes a low, spreading vine. Another eagle appears, and the vine bends toward it, withering in judgment. Yet from this broken royal line, God promises to plant His own branch that will become a mighty, fruit-bearing cedar where birds of every kind will nest. This vivid forestry metaphor in Ezekiel 17 masterfully reveals God's plan spanning millennia. The chapter begins with Ezekiel delivering a cryptic parable about eagles, cedar trees, and vines. As we explore the text, God himself provides the interpretation: Babylon (the first eagle) taking King Jehoiakim captive and installing Zedekiah, who then betrays his oath by seeking help from Egypt (the second eagle). The result? Devastating judgment on Jerusalem and the scattering of Israel. But hidden within this prophecy of judgment lies an extraordinary promise of restoration. God declares He will personally take a tender sprig from the royal line and plant it on "the high mountain of Israel" (Jerusalem). Unlike the lowly vine produced by Babylon's interference, God's planting will grow into a magnificent cedar bearing fruit—something cedars naturally cannot do.This prophecy points unmistakably to Jesus Christ, the "root and descendant of David," who will establish His millennial kingdom from Jerusalem. Jesus himself drew from this imagery when teaching about the kingdom of heaven. The birds nesting in its branches represent all peoples benefiting from this kingdom, including both believers and unbelievers living under Christ's rule. What makes this prophecy particularly significant is that it remains unfulfilled. "All the trees of the field" (nations) have never acknowledged God's sovereignty through Jerusalem. This can only happen during Christ's future millennial reign when He returns to establish His kingdom on earth.Ready to deepen your understanding of biblical prophecy and its connection to Christ? Leanne and Steve discussed the biblical passage from Daniel, focusing on the courtroom scene with thrones and the judgment of the Ancient One. Leanne suggested that the thrones might represent the 12 tribes of Israel and the disciples of Jesus, while also referencing Colossians' mention of the church's role in revealing God's wisdom to spiritual authorities. They explored the concept of the Merkaba seat from Jewish mysticism and its connection to Ezekiel's visions. The conversation concluded with a discussion of the 4th beast representing a future world power, its 10 horns symbolizing 10 kings, and the eventual establishment of God's kingdom over all rulers.
We live in a world filled with uncertainty, where headlines often bring more anxiety than peace. Yet, for those who trust in the God of Israel, there is a greater reality beyond what we see. There is a promise that transcends every trial: a future of the coming Kingdom where justice reigns, peace is permanent, and hope is fulfilled.

In this installment of our Vos Group series, Camden Bucey welcomes Lane Tipton back to the studio for an in-depth discussion on Geerhardus Vos's Biblical Theology (pp. 372–374), focusing on the Kingdom of God. Together, they explore how the concept of the kingdom is foundational to Jesus' public ministry and central to redemptive history. Drawing from Vos's text and the broader Reformed tradition, Lane and Camden unpack the eschatological character of the kingdom, its redemptive nature, and its Old Testament foundations. They trace how this theme unfolds from the prophets to the teachings of Christ, addressing modern misconceptions—ranging from liberal moralism to dispensational literalism—and emphasizing the kingdom's spiritual and heavenly dimensions. Listeners will gain fresh insight into key theological categories such as inaugurated eschatology, the continuity of redemptive history, and the contrast between earthly and heavenly expectations of the Messiah. Whether you're new to Vos or a long-time student of Reformed theology, this episode offers deep encouragement and clarity on a subject that lies at the very heart of Scripture. In this sermon, Jim Osman explores the promise of inheriting the land found in Psalm 37 and Jeremiah 31-33. Osman explains that this promise, repeated throughout Scripture, refers to a future time when a righteous King from David's line will rule over Israel in peace and prosperity. While the wicked may prosper now, they will ultimately be cut off, and the righteous will delight in abundant blessing when this promise is fulfilled. Dr. Alan Kurschner presents how Satan will do anything he can to see to it that God's future kingdom never becomes a reality. Satan's targets of attack include Israel, the Church, and the Messiah Jesus. This fascinating study begins with an explanation of what "replacement theology" is and how it relates to whether or not one believes Israel has a role in God's purposes. Using familiar events and themes from the Bible and history, Alan lays out nine ways Satan has attempted, and will attempt, to thwart God's future Kingdom. In this episode of the House of David podcast, Gabi and Pastor Eric delve into the significance of understanding the theological details surrounding God's Kingdom, Israel, and future prophetic events. They discuss the detrimental impact of false or misguided theologies, particularly Supersessionism, on the church's understanding of scripture concerning Israel and the Jewish people. Pastor Eric emphasizes the importance of seeking truth and understanding God's Kingdom, as taught by Jesus, which encompasses not only salvation but also the future fulfillment of Biblical prophecies. They explore various theological perspectives, including Amillennialism and Post-Millennialism, and contrast them with a Pre-Millennial view that highlights the restoration of Israel as central to God's Kingdom plans. The episode concludes with a call to prayer for Israel and a preview of future discussions on the distinctions between Israel and the church and the fulfillment of God's promises.

Jeff Durbin has identified the Church as the True Israel of God, and has stated that it is not possible for the nation of Israel to be considered God's chosen people. According to Durbin, it is insulting that Christians would think Israel is God's chosen people, and the Bible does not call them that. We review the Apologia Studios episode on Israel and the chosen people of God, asking whether their statements is a fair representation of what Scripture has to say about Israel and the Church. These memorials can take various forms, from grand structures to simple plaques, all serving as focal points for our collective memory. Memorials remind us of our history, our values, and the peoplewho have left a lasting impact on our world.God's MemorialsBut have you ever wondered what kind of memorial God would establish? In today's episode, we discover that God has indeed set up memorials in the form of sacred events that carry profound significance for our faith. We'll explore two of these memorials, the Passover and the Lord's Supper, both mentioned in the passage we're examining.Preparing for the PassoverThe passage begins with preparations for the Passover, a memorial rooted in the Old Testament. The disciples, not being familiar with Jerusalem, seek Jesus' guidance on where to celebrate the Passover meal. Interestingly, they are instructed to follow a man carrying a jar of water, which was an uncommon sight since this task was typically performed by women. This small detail highlights the significance of the encounter. The Passover: A Story of LiberationThe Passover memorial originated in the Old Testament as a way for God's people to remember their liberation from slavery in Egypt. The meal included unleavened bread, a symbol of haste, bitter herbs to recall the bitterness of their bondage, and the lamb's blood, which marked their homes and protected them from the angel of death.Jesus and Judas: A Moment of BetrayalDuring the Passover meal, Jesus drops a bombshell: one of His disciples will betray Him. This revelation leaves the disciples in shock, each questioning if they could be the one. Judas, the betrayer, is identified as the one who will dip his bread into the bowl with Jesus. The Lord's Supper: A New CovenantAmid this somber moment, Jesus institutes the Lord's Supper. He takes bread, gives thanks, and breaks it, saying, "This is my body." Then, He takes a cup, gives thanks again, and shares it with His disciples, proclaiming, "This is my blood of the new covenant."The New Covenant: A Promise of RedemptionThis establishment of the new covenant signifies a profound shift. The old covenant, symbolized by the Passover, is fulfilled in Jesus. His death and resurrection pave the way for a new covenant, where we are redeemed through His sacrifice. The Lord's Supper becomes our memorial, reminding us of the price Jesus paid for our salvation. The Future Kingdom and CommunionAs tSupport the showFurther Discipleship Training Courses Free at;linkedin.com/in/jeremy-mccandless-68353b16Podcast Archive also athttps://www.youtube.com/c/JeremyRMcCandlessThe LIFE Podcast - The Bible Project | FacebookMy Amazon Author Pageamazon.com/author/jeremymccandlessJeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

In this 16th of 39 teaching from The Hayford Bible Handbook on what the Kingdom of God is, Steven Harris continues the teaching of Jack W. Hayford. This episode was filmed 2 weeks from the death of Jack W. Hayford and acts as a tribute to his leadership, wisdom and inspirer of taking the time to be devoted to the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. 16. A Present and Future Kingdom (Matt. 13:1-52). In this chapter, Jesus introduces parables as a means of teaching “kingdom” truths (vv. 10-11). Of the forty parables Jesus gave, He made direct references to the kingdom in nineteen. These stories clearly relate to different time frames. Some impact the present, teaching (1) the need for kingdom people to have hearing ears (vv. 3-23); (2) the breadth of the kingdom's spread (vv. 31-35); and (3) the cost of the kingdom's acquisition (vv. 44-46). Others relate to the future, teaching (1) the final disposing of the fruit of the Adversary's hindrance (vv. 36-43) and (2) the final disposition of the mixed ingathering from kingdom outreach (vv. 47-51). In mixing these two aspects of the “kingdom,” Jesus helps us appreciate the kingdoms as both present and prospective. The message of the kingdom is two-edged and relates to two frames of time: First, God, in Christ, is now recovering man from his double loss—relationship with God and of rulership under God. He promised this at man's Fall, illustrated it in the patriarchs and Israel's history, and now the King has come to begin fully bringing it about. The kingdom is being realized presently, in partial and personal ways, as it is spread through all the earth by the Holy Spirit's power in the church. Second, the kingdom will be realized finally in consummate and conclusive ways only at the return of Jesus Christ and by His reign over all the earth. What we experience of His triumph now, in part, will then be fully manifest (1 Cor. 13:9-10; 15:24; Rev. 11:15). This complete view allows for our understanding and applying the principles of “kingdom come” without falling into the confusion of expecting now what the Bible says will only be then. “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world'” (NASU).

Scripture: Daniel 7
We exist in a world that is run by corrupt human leaders. For millennia, we have seen the rise and fall of great kingdoms and national superpowers. Yet, this is our hope that we find in Daniel 2: the true God of heaven, the one who establishes and removes earthly kingdoms, wants his people to know that all human kingdoms will ultimately be replaced with his everlasting Kingdom!

Under David's reign, the Lord gives His people great victories over their enemies. But Israel's greatness is not defined only by their successes in battle, but in their consecration for the Lord, and in their administration of justice and pursuit of righteousness as the people of God.

Today's episode is all about having a deeper understanding of the Word of God. Most Christians, nowadays, keep talking about the Kingdom but do not even know what Kingdom really means. So in this episode, I tackle the different meanings of Kingdom and how you can correctly use them or for another reason, just altogether quit using the word “kingdom” without understanding what it really means. Explaining this is very essential to me because I don't want to conjure up the wrong idea in most people's heads. This will also serve as a warning that we should all be careful of cliches, as cliches are wrecking the church. Be informed, serve God through serving His gospel correctly.
