But first Katie talks to anti-war Army veterans Josephine Guilbeau and Greg Stoker who were arrested for disrupting Pete Hegseth's Senate Confirmation Hearing. Max Blumenthal is the editor and founder of The Gray Zone and the author of several books including "The Management of Savagery: How America's National Security State Fueled the Rise of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Donald Trump" and "Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel." Her mobilizations include Operation Enduring Freedom, where she supported cyberspace operations for U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) and the Cyber National Mission Force, earning an Army Commendation Medal for her vital role in mission success. Since her resignation from the military in 2023, Josephine has been advocating for peace in the Middle East, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and leadership. Her dedication to both her military duties and her community reflects her strong sense of duty and commitment to making a positive impact wherever she serves. Guilbeau earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Cybersecurity Management and Policy. Her awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals and three Army Achievement Medals, recognizing her outstanding service and valor in the face of adversity. Greg Stoker is a former United States Army Ranger. He has a background in special operations and human intelligence collection. He conducted 4 combat deployments to Afghanistan during the unfortunately named “Global War On Terror” and is now an anti-war activist, host of the Colonial Outcasts Podcast, and analyst at MintPress News. ***Please support The Katie Halper Show *** For bonus content, exclusive interviews, to support independent media & to help make this program possible, please join us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/thekatiehalpershow Get your Katie Halper Show Merch here! https://katiehalper.myspreadshop.com/all Follow Katie on Twitter: @kthalps

In The Management of Savagery: How America’s National Security State Fueled the Rise of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Donald Trump (Verso, 2019), Max Blumenthal excavates the real, connected story behind the rise of Donald Trump, international jihad, Western ultra-nationalism and the many extremist forces that threaten peace across the globe: American imperialism. Washington’s secret funding of the mujahedin provoked the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. With guns and money, the United States has ever since sustained the extremists, including Osama Bin Laden, who have become its enemies. The Pentagon has trained and armed jihadist elements in Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya; it has launched military interventions to change regimes in the Middle East. In doing so, it created fertile ground for the Islamic State and brought foreign conflicts home to American soil. These failed wars abroad have made the United States more vulnerable to both terrorism as well as native ultra-nationalism. The Trump presidency is the inevitable consequence of neoconservative imperialism in the post–Cold War age. Trump’s dealings in the Middle East are likely only to exacerbate the situation. Max Blumenthal is an award-winning journalist and bestselling author whose articles and video documentaries have appeared in the New York Times, Daily Beast, Guardian, Huffington Post, Salon, Al Jazeera English and many other publications. He is Senior Editor of AlterNet’s Grayzone Project and the author of Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel, which won the 2014 Lannan Foundation Cultural Freedom Notable Book Award, the New York Times bestseller Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party, and The 51 Day War: Ruin and Resistance in Gaza. His documentaries and on-the-ground reports have been seen by millions. Kirk Meighoo is a TV and podcast host, former university lecturer, author and former Senator in Trinidad and Tobago. He hosts his own podcast, Independent Thought & Freedom, where he interviews some of the most interesting people from around the world who are shaking up politics, economics, society and ideas. The film focuses on Israeli collective denial of the events of 1948 that led to the state's foundation on the back of ethnic cleansing and the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem. The discussion took the form of a question and answer session in which a wide range of topics were discussed. About the speaker: Lia Tarachansky is the Palestine-Israel correspondent for The Real News Network (TRNN) where she produces short, documentary-style reports exploring the context behind the news. In 2012 Tarachansky produced and co-directed a BBC-Arabic documentary about Israel's Social Justice (J14) movement and the wave of self-immolations it sparked, in protest of the harsh economic reality many face in Israel. Her work is frequently featured in publications such as +972 Magazine, Mondoweiss, USA Today, Al Jazeera, and the Huffington Post; and her journalism was profiled in the renowned Max Blumenthal book, Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel The discussion took place in The Pearse Centre in Dublin and was organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign - http://www.ipsc.ie. Hosts Kevin Gosztola and Rania Khalek are joined by journalist and author of Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel, Max Blumenthal. He also shares his experiences in Israel and Gaza in the midst and aftermath of Israel's summer assault, which killed over two thousand Palestinians and damaged infrastructure more severely than Israel's two previous wars on Gaza. He also talks about the fanatical protesters he encountered when he went to the Lincoln Center on the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera's "Death of Klinghoffer" and how Jewish people are perpetuating the "spirit of the Holocaust" to maintain their status in the world and preserve Israeli military occupation of Palestinians.

If I said that this conversation was about authoritarian politics, the religious right, the rise of Christianist fundamentalism, a demographic crisis facing one political party, and the continued rise of military power, you would easily assume we would be talking about the US. In fact, these same forces are at play in greater Israel, and they are constantly reinforced here, by perhaps the most powerful political lobby in the United States. The complexity of Israeli politics, its relationship with the US, and its impact on our own politics are all issues that exist not just in the abstract world of policy wonks. Each and every day they impact the lives of thousands of people on the ground in Israel, Gaza and the Middle East.Max Blumenthal takes a brave and controversial look at this in Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel. My conversation with Max Blumenthal:
