After popular demand, we welcome back Dr. Ramzy Baroud for this episode of the Let's Talk Palestine Podcast.

To close up our series, we bring forth the key principles that define what is actually needed for liberation, not simply 'peace'. We begin the episode by looking at the key historical details that have brought us to where we are today, before delving into the idea of anti-Zionism, as well as the roles that different components within the movement (such as peaceful and armed resistance) have in our shared path forward. In this episode, we have the honour of welcoming Dr Ramzy Baroud, editor of the Palestine Chronicle, who has written extensively on the topic of liberation as opposed to peace, and gives his insights.

Analysis of the ICJ Hearing - Dr Ramzy Baroud by Radio Islam
Nora Lester Murad is an activist, writer and educator who has been involved in the Palestinian cause for over 40 years. She has dedicated her life to advocating for peace with justice and has worked with various organizations to promote narrative change and empower local decision making. Key Takeaways: Times of crisis present both opportunities and challenges for making an impact and creating narrative change. Giving during a crisis should be done with an understanding of the systems and constraints that affect how the resources are used. Liberatory giving involves supporting organizations working towards liberation and self-determination, rather than just providing immediate aid. Consistent and ongoing support is more impactful than one-time contributions. Individuals can contribute to the cause by using their voice, networks, and resources to spread awareness and advocate for change. Streamed live at 2pm ET | 7pm UK | 9pm Palestine on Wednesday 10th May: Dr Ramzy Baroud is a Palestinian journalist, media consultant, author, internationally-syndicated columnist and Founding-Editor of The Palestine Chronicle. Rana Shubair is a Palestinian author, mother and language trainer from Gaza. She specializes in English language training, testing and translation. At least fifteen Palestinians have been killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning and throughout the day in a series of Israeli military attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip. More than 40 Israeli warplanes carried out attacks for nearly two hours starting at 2am on Tuesday (23:00 GMT Monday). At least four children and four women have been killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Social media users report among those killed in Gaza was Dr Jamal Khaswan, a well-known dentist and Director of the Al Wafa hospital. He was reportedly killed alongside his wife and son. Palestinian journalist Dr Ramzy Baroud argues Israel's latest attacks on Gaza are likely being waged by Israel's political leadership, “to ensure that the political crisis in Israel can be averted” and says the ferocity of the attacks imply Israel “intends to kill as many Palestinians as possible” and that we may well be anticipating "continued Israeli attack on Gaza” in the days to come. Chair: Randa Abdel-Fattah It is inevitable that First Nations and Palestinian writers would share a deep sense of displacement and the loss of homelands, language and heritage. How does the experience of stolen lands mark their writing? How does that loss express itself through the forms of poetry, fiction or nonfiction? Randa Abdel-Fattah explores these questions with Ramzy Baroud, Saree Makdisi and Amy McQuire. Supported by the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund. Event details: Tue 07 Mar, 2:30pm on the North Stage
Chair: Sophie McNeill In 1937, 148 writers, including Samuel Beckett, Rebecca West and T.S. Eliot, answered the call to respond to the Spanish Civil War. Writers have continued to take positions in moments of crisis, including the Gulf War of 1991 and the Iraq War of 2003. Sophie McNeill talks about the role of politically engaged writers with Randa Abdel-Fattah, Ramzy Baroud, Peter Singer and Mohammed El-Kurd. Event details: Sun 05 Mar, 1:15pm on the East Stage
Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & Sexuality Still reeling from being #suckerpunched by #Googlebots removing my YouTube channel—I see Memphis cops real-life sucker-punching a man to death, the LAPD suffocating another, other cops shooting others, & more & more cases of Death-by-Cop, & I feel pretty dumb, crying ab out my YouTube channel being erased. What's a little censorship by bots compared to murder by cops? Well, one leads to the other. The bots that “terminate” our internet lives are the digital version of cops that exterminate people's real lives. Ironically, bots don't stop disinformation, & cops don't stop crime. Both #cops & #bots are the attack dogs of “Da Rich” . The obscene #Capitalocene pits us against each other, Tyre Nichols murdered by fellow black men in a cop gang, my channel killed by a fellow liberal woman named Susan who runs YouTube (though bots did Susan Wojcicki's dirty work). Pr. Maximillian Lobkowicz di #Filangieri, Abe Bonobo & I continue mourning the #CopCity murder of climate activist Tortuguita as YouTube's censoring of My CounterPunch colleague Ramzy Baroud's pro-Palestine videos & Abby Martin's RT shows as we gag over gay Nazi Nick Fuentes fantasies of women in burkas, as antiwar truth-teller Julian Assange remains in prison, as left & right continue to fight, because “Da Rich” would rather we fight against each other than unite against them. #BonoboSapiens of the World Unite! We need sexual healing The Bonobo Way… Otherwise, repression turns into depression which can turn into lethal expression, mass-shootings that make war zones of our streets, supermarkets, schools & dance halls. The recent Monterey Park Dance Hall mass-murder hits close-to-home for us geographically, as well as emotionally. I've often recommended ballroom dancing to men who want to get close to women in an erotic yet respectful way. What a shame that one old #ammosexual's frustration turned a haven for romance & dance into a death chamber. But this #FDR (#FuckDaRich) ride isn't all death & politics; Brady calls in asking for help assessing a date's sexual interest & wondering what does it mean when a prospective lover tells you they're #Asexual? We have a great time answering (as you will listening), as well as celebrating Bonobo Adriana's Flirty-30th birthday, the sexual-healing power of bare boobs, the release of another #SexCalls video, “Bisexual Monogamy,” & more… So, cuddle up to your favorite sexual healer (even if that sexual healer is you! Love yourself…) and listen. Need to talk PRIVATELY? Call the #TherapistsWithoutBorders of the Dr. Susan Block Institute for #PhoneSexTherapy anytime: 213.291.9497 We're Here for YOU. Grayzone Radio 6: Inside the Lion's Den Summary: The Grayzone's Max Blumenthal interviews Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud about a striking new development in the Palestinian West Bank that has seriously rattled the Israeli military: the spontaneous rise of armed factions across occupied territory known as the Lions Den. Cutting across all political factions and embodying the aspirations of a new generation of Palestinians, these groups have contributed to a surge in military-style resistance to occupation unseen since the Second Intifada was finally crushed in 2007. Next we hear Blumenthal's discussion with YouTube host and comedian Jimmy Dore about the Twitter files exposing FBI and CIA collaboration with the social media giant. Finally, Blumenthal shares his thoughts on the demise of the antiwar "left" with Progressive Radio Network and WBAI's Gary Null. Professor Ilan Pappe is the Director of the European Center for Palestine Studies and a senior fellow of the Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, UK. Pappe is the author of 20 books his two most recent ones are Our Vision for Liberation, with Ramzy Baroud and The Historical Dictionary of Palestine with Johnny Mansour. His most known work is the 2006 book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine and he also co-authored two books with Noam Chomsky.
Palestinian author and journalist Dr. Ramzy Baroud discusses the reasons behind Israel's lack of accountability to international law. While many countries, especially in the Global South, are held accountable to United Nations resolutions and to international humanitarian laws, Israel remains untouched. The role of the UK, past and present. What will it take for the Palestinians to achieve justice? Dr. Ramzy Baroud is a journalist, author and the Editor of The Palestine Chronicle. He is the author of six books. His latest book, co-edited with Ilan Pappé, is ‘Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders and Intellectuals Speak out'. The Israeli state has been losing the battle for Western public opinion for quite some time now. Even in the United States, its closest ally, support for Israel is waning, while sympathy for Palestine has more than doubled since 2013, according to a series of Gallup polls.Knowing this, Israel has redoubled its efforts in soft power. Joining Lowkey today are three people who have closely monitored these efforts: Dr. Ramzy Baroud, Jessica Buxbaum, and Alan MacLeod. One example of Israel trying to launder its image in pop culture is the character of Sabra, an Israeli superhero and Mossad agent. Sabra features in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, “Captain America: New World Order.” Baroud asked Lowkey the question, “why now?” Why had this controversial character made a return, noting,The timing of introducing Sabra fits really nicely into the progression of Israeli propaganda in American movies and in the entertainment industry in general. We are living in an age now, where a superhero can actually be a Mossad agent!”Baroud explored this in detail in his recent MintPress News article, “From Exodus to Marvel: The Israelification of Hollywood.” This latest attempt at woke imperialism is particularly notable, Baroud said, as,Mossad is a notorious organization that is responsible for the assassination of many people, sabotage, destruction, all sorts of sinister business. This is by no means the kind of agency or organization that should be introduced to American youth as if they are the saviors of the human race.”Ramzy Baroud is a journalist and editor of The Palestine Chronicle, as well as a non-resident senior research fellow at the Center for Islam and Global Affairs. He is the author of six books, including “Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders and Intellectuals Speak Out,” co-written with Professor Ilan Pappé.Jessica Buxbaum highlighted the many connections Marvel Studios – particularly its senior executives – have with the apartheid state. Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac Perlmutter, for example, grew up in 1948-occupied Palestine and served in the IDF during the 1967 Six-Day War, alongside Marvel CEO Avi Arad. Her recent investigation found that many other Marvel senior figures had donated to Zionist organizations, or even to campaign funds for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Also joining Lowkey today is Alan MacLeod, whose latest investigation goes through emails published by WikiLeaks showing that many of Hollywood's most influential producers work closely with the Israeli government and the IDF in order to whitewash its crimes, promote its image, and stamp out any pro-Palestine sentiment in the entertainment world. This went so far as senior entertainment executives introducing IDF officers to other celebrities in an efforSupport the showThe MintPress podcast, “The Watchdog,” hosted by British-Iraqi hip hop artist Lowkey, closely examines organizations about which it is in the public interest to know – including intelligence, lobby and special interest groups influencing policies that infringe on free speech and target dissent. They examine the apparent hypocrisy of the international community as well as the mainstream media in their response to Russia's invasion and occupation of Ukraine in comparison to their response, or lack of it, to Israel's ongoing 74-year occupation of Palestine. This is not to be missed! What seems to be emerging on the global geopolitical stage? – Can new alliances form in the wake of shifting balances of power amidst the decline in US hegemony? Can Palestine really be forced to choose between its Russian ally and US funds over the crisis in Ukraine? And why are more public figures, the latest being Egypt's Squash champion Ali Farag, right now taking it upon themselves to speak up for Palestine on the world stage?

Israel is once again attacking the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israeli forces storming the ancient religious complex fired tear gas and rubber bullets, seriously injuring hundreds and killing at least one person. The latest series of attacks is the most consequential since those in May last year, events that led to the Israeli military killing hundreds of Palestinians, injuring thousands, and forcing tens of thousands to flee their houses.“What is happening at Al-Aqsa right now is more dangerous than at any other time in the past,” Dr. Ramzy Baroud told Lowkey today. Dr. Baroud is a journalist and editor of The Palestine Chronicle, as well as a non-resident senior research fellow at the Center for Islam and Global Affairs. On this edition of Parallax Views, US-Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud and Israeli historian Dr. Ilan Pappé join us to discuss the movement for Palestinian liberation and the new book they've co-edited related to it Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out. A synopsis of Our Vision for Palestine from the publisher, Clarity Press, sums up the book and its aims better than Parallax Views can: Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out aims to challenge several strata of the current Palestine discourse that have led to the present dead end: the American pro-Israel political discourse, the Israeli colonial discourse, the Arab discourse of purported normalization, and the defunct discourse of the Palestinian factions. None promote justice, none have brought resolution; none bode well for any of the parties involved. Here, engaged Palestinian leaders and intellectuals, those who have been actively involved in generating an ongoing Palestinian discourse on liberation, take into account the parameters of their struggle as it now stands. Drawing on their own personal experiences as educators, community leaders, spiritual leaders, artists, historians, human rights activists, political prisoners, and the like, they address what now, what next, is to be done, in a manner that reflects not only Palestinian aspirations, but their view of what is possible. In this conversation Dr. Pappé and Baroud discuss a number of different topics including the historical distortions, myths, and language that has often blurred the discourse around Israel/Palestine. Dr. Pappé goes over the myths that he covered in his previous book Ten Myths About Israel and Baroud discusses why such myths persist. Additionally, Dr. Pappé gives a historical overview of what is known among Palestinians as the Nakba, or the Catastrophe, that led to the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. Baroud critiques the ways in which Palestinian liberation have been framed over the years and argues that liberation will, as Che Guevera put it in one quote, come not from ordained liberators but rather the people themselves. In this regard, Ramzy Baroud criticizes the ways in which the Palestinian struggle is framed by Westerners, including the Western Left, and the need to make Palestinians the core of Liberation movement. In addition to all of this, Dr. Pappé and Baroud discuss the voices of Palestine and how their individual struggles inform collective struggles; the Palestinian voices that exist beyond the realms of diplomatic and armed struggle; pessimism and hope; settler-colonialism, occupation, and ethnic cleansing; the Nakba and its trauma as ongoing; the failure of the peace process and U.S. policy on Palestine; Palestinians in Gaza and their hope; Palestinian perseverance and creative ways of survival; decolonization; and much, much more.
Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded March 16th, 2022. Israeli forces stormed Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque during Friday prayers last week. It was the culmination of attacks against Palestinians in towns, villages, and cities across the West Bank during Ramadan. Palestinian attacks within Israel since the beginning of the holy fasting month have too increased. As of writing, thirty people are dead on both sides, and it's feared this could be a prelude to a larger conflict. Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative says the confrontations over these two weeks "could become a wide-ranging Intifada." Last year, military raids against worshipers in Al-Aqsa escalated to an eleven day conflict that included Israel's air force bombing Gaza killing hundreds, including at least sixty-five children. Yet again the world reels in horror at another Israeli assault on the people of Gaza, yet again the governments of the world, including the Australian government, give their imprimatur to the slaughter. Dr Ramzy Baroud is a Palestinian-American author, journalist, and editor of The Palestine Chronicle. He spoke to Alex Whisson from his home in Seattle.
Ramzy Baroud discusses the deliberately misleading way that stories about Israel-Palestine are presented in western media. The story, he says, almost always begins with the fact that Palestinians have launched rockets at Israeli forces, or at least presents the conflict as an even fight between two neighbors, in which Israel, of course, has the right to defend its own borders. What's never explained is the fact that the supposed Palestinian territories are at this point little more than heavily-occupied refugee camps, and that attacks from the Palestinians cannot be understood without the background of decades of Israeli aggression. Nevertheless, Baroud describes himself as an optimist: in particular, he thinks the situation has become so obviously one-sided that international support cannot help but shift toward the plight of the Palestinians. Discussed on the show: "Muna is Palestine, Yakub is Israel: The Untold Story of Sheikh Jarrah" (Palestine Chronicle) "If I don’t steal it, somebody else is going to steal it." The US may have destroyed the peace process by launching new airstrikes against the Taliban. Also, Russia is hosting a conference with various parties in the Afghanistan peace process and is encouraging a firm negotiated settlement, with President Biden signaling that he intends to stay in the war-torn nation past the May 1st withdrawal deadline.
The book consists of the narratives of some of the very many Palestinians, men, women and children, imprisoned by the Israeli regime yet retaining their humanity. Quoting John Pilger, “ With each story, there is a roll call of the best of humanity: courage, struggle, determination, generosity, passion, humility and, and, above all, defiance of injustice.” A discussion on conservation, the environment or peace with justice.
In this episode of By Any Means Necessary on Radio Sputnik, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Sathya Vatti with the ANSWER Coalition to discuss the seizure of power by military forces in Myanmar, what's motivating the latest political developments there, and why the corporate media seems so concerned with the situation. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Chris Garaffa, editor of Tech For The People, for another edition of the new weekly segment "Tech For The People." They discuss the 800% spike in government requests for personal information of users reported by Amazon, growing cooperation between police and the company's "Ring" home security startup, and how police departments across the country are exploiting loopholes in bans on facial recognition to carry out invasive surveillance anyway. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Dr. Ramzy Baroud, author, syndicated columnist, editor of the Palestine Chronicle & Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Islam and Global Affairs, to discuss the 'medical apartheid' carried out by Israel in its vaccination program, the significance of the explicit recognition of the Israeli government as an apartheid regime by groups like B'Tselem, and the latest efforts by the regime to normalize the occupation of Palestine among the international community.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by James Early, Former Director of Cultural Heritage Policy at the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage at the Smithsonian Institution and board member of the Institute for Policy Studie, to discuss President Biden's appointment of Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary, why representation isn't a replacement for real policy proposals, why organization is the only way forward for progressive and socialist activists.
Dr. Colin Campbell, Washington, DC, senior news correspondent, joins us to discuss the military occupation of Washington DC. Twenty-five thousand military troops accompanied with razor wire and checkpoints now inhabit Capitol Hill and it's surrounding neighborhoods. Civil libertarians and anti-war activists are concerned that the normally bustling yet peaceful K street corridor has been dubbed the "Green Zone" by the US Secret Service and now resembles any number of US military bases in occupied nations around the world.Dr. Jack Rasmus, professor in the Economics and Politics Departments at St. Mary's College of California, joins us to discuss President-elect Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan. Dr. Jack argues that the economy is in the process of a slow crash and that the December stimulus package was far too little. He reviews the Biden package piece by piece and adds that the Democrats should be concerned that the covid related economic devastation may precipitate a 2008 style meltdown of the banking system.Leo Flores, Latin America coordinator for Code Pink, joins us to discuss indicators of Joe Biden's policies towards Latin America. Joe Biden has invited former Exxon Lawyer Carlos Vecchio who also serves as Juan Guaido's envoy in Washington. Vecchio is currently wanted in Venezuela in connection with a rally that turned violent resulting in the crowd setting fire to the Attorney General's office. Flores discusses whether Biden's Latin American policies will differ from Trump's. Raul Diego, Writer, independent photojournalist joins us to discuss his latest Mintpress article about censorship. Raul argues that the events at Capitol Hill provided the perfect excuse for Twitter and other social media companies to advance the agenda of their benefactors in the permanent government of the United States. He also says that Twitter, Facebook, and all the other major social media platforms are organs of the state, to begin with, and that nothing they do falls outside of the ultimate designs of the powers they serve. Alexander Mercouris, editor in Chief at theduran.com & host of "The Duran" on youtube, returns to The Critical Hour to discuss the end of the Barr-Durham investigation into the origins of the controversial Russia Gate operation. Despite media claims that the investigation would be completed by the spring of 2020, it appears that the end of the Trump administration will bring about the end of this inquiry. Mercouris ponders whether Attorney General William Barr was a CIA cover man put in place to string the process out until Donald Trump's term.Mark Sleboda, Moscow-based international relations and security analyst, returns to discuss the arrest of Alexey Navalny. Navalny has been embroiled in a months-long operation in which US CIA operatives have worked with various governments and NGO groups to put forth at least three separate theories as to how he was allegedly poisoned. Navalny recently returned to Russia and was immediately arrested for violating court orders related to an earlier embezzlement conviction. Western officials portray his arrest as a violation of international norms but fail to address the validity of the court's claims against him.Laith Marouf, broadcaster and journalist based in Beirut, Lebanon, joins us to talk about Tunisia. Hundreds have been arrested as Tunisians protest dire economic circumstances in cities around the nation. Gross Domestic Product reduced by 9 percent last year, consumer prices have dramatically increased, and one-third of young people are unemployed.Dan Lazare, investigative journalist and author of "The Velvet Coup," joins us to discuss an article by Ramzy Baroud in which he argues that the Capitol protest and brief occupation has caused deep and lasting damage to the self-serving definition of democracy that the US empire has used to dominate weaker nations. Baroud argues that "A country that has assigned itself the role of the defender of democracy worldwide, now stands unable to defend its own democracy at home." He also says that the Trump phenomenon is a symptom of America's democracy crisis and is likely to worsen in the future.
Palestinian journalist Ramzy Baroud discusses a series of recent articles he’s written on the status of Israeli-Palestinian relations, and the long history that informs the situation today. It has now become clear, says Baroud, that the once-promised two-state solution is off the table. The Israeli government has realized that it can pretty much continue to expand its settlements into the dwindling Palestinian lands and keep oppressing its people, all with very little pushback in the international community or the mainstream media. The only realistic way forward will be to officially recognize a single state with full rights for Palestinians. Unfortunately Baroud says that Biden’s cabinet picks mostly hold terrible positions on Israel, and indeed Biden himself was known as one of the biggest Zionists in Washington before Trump came along. Baroud worries that little will change for the Palestinians under the next administration. Ramzy Baroud shares the heartbreaking story of Ahmed Amarneh, an engineer who decided to build a home for his family in a network of caves near their town after getting repeatedly denied building permits for a real house by the Israeli government. Now that he has moved his family to the caves, Israel is threatening to demolish the entire cave system. The Amarnehs are not alone, says Baroud—if anything, their story is representative of the general trend of the Israeli government using every legal means possible to prevent Palestinians from living on land that is rightfully theirs, and in many cases even trying to force them out altogether. This kind of ethnic cleansing will probably continue until the West comes to its senses and stops defending the worst of Israel’s human rights abuses. On Tuesday, during the second night of the Democratic National Convention, former US Vice President Joe Biden officially secured the Democratic Party's nomination for president. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) used her 60 seconds of speaking time during the event to support nominating Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and highlighted a number of issues that are truly relevant to the electorate. What does this say about the domestic political landscape? Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey in June said the state would fund a testing and technology program to aid public colleges and universities in the state reopen for in-person classes. "Now, as Alabama college students start those classes this week and next even as local virus rates remain high, that program — one of the nation's largest campus reopening efforts — is facing the ultimate test," the New York Times reported Wednesday. On August 12, "Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, a former Navy prosecutor, chose an especially dramatic example when he compared the commitment of teachers and administrators [to reopen schools] to the resolve of Navy SEALs given the mission to go after Osama bin Laden," the Times also reported Wednesday. What are we to make of this?"The US-backed Venezuelan coup regime of Juan Guaidó is reestablishing ties with Israel and has opened a 'virtual embassy' in Jerusalem, run by a right-wing rabbi who lives in Miami and wants [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's help to fight 'terrorism,'" The Grayzone reported on August 14. Boy, does that sound convoluted and ominous. What can we expect next?"The victims and families of victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are urging Congress not to move forward with removing Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism in a deal they say would rob them of holding Khartoum accountable in a court of law," The Hill reported Wednesday. What's really behind Congress' efforts to establish this relationship with Khartoum?"Hamas said Israeli warplanes and drones struck several posts and facilities belonging to its armed wing," Al Jazeera reported Wednesday. "Israeli warplanes bombed the Gaza Strip for the eighth consecutive night after alleging that Palestinians had fired a rocket into southern Israel." Is Israel ignoring the concept of proportional response? In his Tuesday MintPress News article, Ramzy Baroud writes, "French President Emmanuel Macron is in no position to pontificate to Lebanon about the need for political and economic reforms. Just as thousands of Lebanese took to the streets of Beirut demanding 'revenge' against the ruling classes, the French people have relentlessly been doing the same; both peoples have been met with police violence and arrests." How will this play out?We will be discussing the role of both Democrats and Republicans in promoting and passing the Magnitsky Act in 2012. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rep Jim. McGovern (D-MA) championed it. Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) opposed it, but President Barack Obama signed it. So would the election make a difference? It's a good time to delve into the beginnings of the Maidan Coup, what with a similar event possibly going on in Belarus now. Eric Zuesse wrote for the Strategic Culture Foundation in 2018: "This will document that the ‘new Cold War' between the US and Russia did not start, as the Western myth has it, with Russia's involvement in the breakaway of Crimea and Donbass from Ukraine, after Ukraine — next door to Russia — had suddenly turned rabidly hostile toward Russia in February 2014. Ukraine's replacing its democratically elected neutralist Government in February 2014, by a rabidly anti-Russian Government, was a violent event, which produced many corpses. It's presented in The West as having been a ‘revolution' instead of a coup; but whatever it was, it certainly generated the ‘new Cold War' (the economic sanctions and NATO buildup on Russia's borders); and, to know whether it was a coup, or instead a revolution, is to know what actually started the ‘new Cold War', and why." At approximately 4:15 pm ET on Tuesday, Biden named Harris as his running mate. Once she formally accepts the nomination, Harris will become the first Black and South Asian-American woman to run on a major US political party's presidential ticket. What does this selection tell us about the direction of the Biden 2020 campaign? "The Supreme Court on Tuesday once again put on hold a judge's order that relaxed election procedures because of the coronavirus pandemic, and the result will keep a referendum on partisan gerrymandering off the November ballot in Oregon," the Washington Post reported Tuesday. Here we are in August, and the court says it's too close to the election to make a change that will allow people to vote with a greater sense of security for their health during a pandemic? "Parties across Bolivia's political spectrum are racing to defuse massive street blockades that have paralyzed the nation, as some protesters threaten to march on La Paz and demand the resignation of interim President Jeanine Áñez," the Washington Post reported Wednesday. What's going on in Bolivia? "The Trump Administration has offered a substantially revised draft on a call for the UN to extend the Iran arms embargo," Antiwar.com reported Tuesday. "The new draft is substantially different from the June version, which was 35 paragraphs, and is now down to four. The goal seems to be to limit debate and avoid vetoes from Russia and China by removing as much as possible. A veto is still a foregone conclusion." These actions, along with US State Department Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams being injected into the issue, now raise the question: could the US covert war with Iran be out in the open by Election Day on November 3?"Fueled by small donations, grassroots progressive enthusiasm, and an expanding base of support, Rep. Ilhan Omar on Tuesday handily defeated a dark money-backed challenger Anton Melton-Meaux in the Democratic primary for Minnesota's 5th congressional district — a win the progressive incumbent characterized as further evidence that 'organized people will always beat organized money,'" Common Dreams reported Wednesday. Is she correct? Is a US “black hand” behind the protests in Hong Kong, as Chinese media outlets recently alleged? How do you get protesters in Hong Kong waving American flags during a recent demonstration?A great article ran in CounterPunch on Wednesday entitled "The Likud Conspiracy: Israel in the Throes of a Major Political Crisis," by Ramzy Baroud, wherein he writes, "Protests against Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, have raged on for weeks, turning violent sometimes. Israelis are furious at their government's mediocre response to the coronavirus pandemic, especially as COVID-19 disease is experiencing a massive surge throughout the country.""After years of challenging the actions and authority of the US Department of Homeland Security, the ACLU [American Civil Liberties Union] Monday called for Congress to dismantle the agency and break it into smaller parts," Common Dreams reported Monday. “'Its dysfunction is one of the Beltway's worst kept secrets,' Anthony Romero, executive director of the ACLU, wrote in an op-ed. 'DHS' overbroad mandate and unchecked powers have turned it into a tinderbox, now ignited by a president willing to trample on the constitutional limits of presidential powers.” Is it time for this failed entity to go? As the Trump administration pushes states to reopen further, the US set another record for new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday by recording more than 59,400, reported the New York Times. That marked the fifth national record in nine days."The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected President Trump's assertion that he enjoys absolute immunity from investigation while in office, allowing a New York prosecutor to pursue a subpoena of the president's private and business financial records," the Washington Post reported Thursday. "In a separate case, the court sent a fight over congressional subpoenas for the material back to lower courts because of 'significant separation of powers concerns.'" What does this mean for the president, and what signals does it send about the court's perspective on separation of powers and the Constitution? Professors Marjorie Cohn and David Schultz give us their analyses. According to a Tuesday report in Mother Jones, "The Trump administration is giving a draconian choice to foreign students at schools that plan to offer only online courses this fall: Quickly transfer to a school with in-person classes or leave the country." In this time of uncertainty and turmoil, why do this to students? Attorneys Mark Shmueli and Carlos Castaneda discuss this issue.A July 3 headline in MintPress News reads: "Israeli Annexation Could Turn the West Bank Into a Gaza-Style Open Air Prison." This story is not getting attention in the US' mainstream, corporate media. Dr. Ramzy Baroud, a Palestinian-American journalist, media consultant, author, columnist and editor, gives his insight on the matter. Guests: Dr. Margaret Flowers - Co-editor of Popular Resistance. Scott interviews Ramzy Baroud about the Israeli annexation of Palestine, including Trump’s role as perhaps the most acquiescent president in American history in going along with the agenda of the Israeli government. Most recently this has meant acceding to Netanyahu’s plans for massive annexation of the West Bank. Although Israel has appeared to back down slightly from its aggressive annexation plan, Baroud is adamant that this is merely a public posture to deflect international criticism, when in reality these Palestinian territories have always been under de facto Israeli control, and will continue to be so. And although Trump has been unusually indulgent with the Israelis, Baroud suspects that a Biden presidency wouldn’t be any better. Baroud laments the fact that the Palestinian perspective is never portrayed in the mainstream media, and so almost everyone in the U.S. only ever hears a deceptive, pro-Israel narrative. The unilateral annexation of the Occupied Territories is illegal under international law. But this is exactly what Israel intends to do when it comes to the West Bank. On this edition of the program, we discuss why Israel is doing this, the international reaction, and the fate of the Palestinians. CrossTalking with Ramzy Baroud & Gideon Levy.
Welcome to MintCast, the official MintPress News podcast hosted by Mnar Muhawesh. MintCast is an interview podcast featuring dissenting voices, independent researchers and journalists the establishment would rather silence. In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Ramzy Baroud, Robert Inkalesh and Miko Peled to discuss the so-called “Deal of the Century,'' a plan promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump together with his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as Israel's annexation plans for the Jordan Valley located in the Palestinian West Bank, and the implications of the so-called deal for Palestine and the broader region. The Netanyahu-led Israeli government was expected to initiate its plan to annex as much as 35 percent of the West Bank in the Jordan Valley earlier this week, formally declaring it part of Israel along guidelines laid out in President Trump and his son in law Jared Kushner’s so-called “Deal of the Century.” After international criticism and even caution from some members of the U.S. Congress, a delay in the plan has been announced. Nonetheless, critics fear that Israel will begin annexing Palestinian land soon.Israel’s annexation of the region would put the over 70,000 Palestinians under full Israeli authority, giving the Israeli military control over all movement, agriculture, water, and all imports and exports, forcing residents to endure apartheid-like conditions experienced by those living in Gaza. The plan would also cut out a part of the West Bank, allowing Israel to encircle the region militarily and control all Palestinian access to the outside world similar to the apartheid-like policies it carries out in Gaza. Not only does Trump’s so-called Deal of the Century hand de facto control to the Israeli military over all Palestinian movement, but it also opens up the doors to over 100,000 illegal Jewish only colonies on indigenous Palestinian land and prevents the two million Palestinian refugees who have the legal grounds to return to their land from ever doing so. The move is nothing short of territorial conquest and military occupation as defined by the United Nations Charter and the annexation is illegal under International Law. Indeed, the United Nations’ High Commissioner on Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has declared Israel’s annexation plans both “illegal” and “disastrous.” This will, without a doubt, create another preventable man-made humanitarian disaster at the hands of Western powers that will fuel the military-industrial complex and stimulate profits off of the theft of indigenous land and blood of indigenous people. If the plan is not stopped, the West Bank could very well become a sprawling open-air prison and ghetto similar to Gaza.Despite the international opposition, Israel enjoys full support from the United States, the world’s only superpower, and plans to complete the annexation before Trump’s reelection run in November. This program is 100 percent listener supported! On this episode of By Any Means Necessary hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Jenny Brown, organizer with National Women's Liberation and author of "Without Apology: The Abortion Struggle Now," to talk about the deathbed confession by the woman best known as “Jane Roe” from the historic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case that she was paid off by anti-abortion activists to renounce her position, the political implications of her high-profile reversal and this new revelation, and the broader connections between the evangelical movement and the ongoing legislative assault on reproductive rights. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Edgar Franks, Washington State Political And Campaign Director at Familias Unidas por la Justicia, to talk about the hundreds of farmworkers currently on strike over a lack of adequate PPE and hazard pay in Yakima Valley, Washington, how the strike evolved from a handful of disparate actions to a regional effort shutting down six agribusinesses, and how this ongoing struggle fits into the long fight for fair treatment by farm workers in this country. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Dr. Ramzy Baroud, author, syndicated columnist, editor of the Palestine Chronicle & Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Islam and Global Affairs, to talk about the recent announcement that the Palestinian Authority is severing all ties and security cooperation with the US and Israel in light of the Israeli decision to shred prior treaties with Palestinians and formally annex parts of the occupied state, the history behind Israeli colonization of the West Bank, and Joe Biden's long history of aggressive support for the Israeli occupation.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Georgia-based activist and political strategist Stacey Hopkins to talk about Republican attempts to stifle mail-in voting, the broad failure of the political system to ensure the right to vote, and whether it would be realistic or possible to keep a Biden presidency in check from the left.
Ramzy Baroud discusses the 100-year history of Jewish Zionism, which has resulted in a century of Palestinians being subjugated, killed, and forced off of their land. Palestinians have sometimes been criticized for not accepting the offer made at the time of the Balfour Declaration to keep about 45% of their land, with critics painting them as intransigent terrorists who refuse to negotiate reasonably or peacefully. Baroud explains how absurd it would be to imagine Americans, or any other people, meekly accepting the annexation of even 1% of their land, let alone over half of it. Today Palestinians have been left with much less than that 45%, and now the Netanyahu government is moving to take over even more of the West Bank in order to secure access to natural resources, land for settlements, and strategic military positions. Baroud believes that the Zionist project will not end until it has achieved the ethnic cleansing of every single Palestinian by whatever means necessary. Discussed on the show: “100 Years of Shame: Annexation of Palestine Began in San Remo” (CounterPunch.org) Balfour Declaration “Opinion | Annexing the West Bank Would Hurt Israel” (The New York Times) The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine Nation-State Law Ramzy Baroud is a US-Arab journalist and is the editor-in-chief of the Palestine Chronicle. Scott talks with Ramzy Baroud about the ongoing crisis for Palestinians in the West Bank, and in particular in the Gaza Strip, who face forced confinement and military occupation as parts of their daily lives. Baroud is reminded of the partial quarantine most Americans are facing today because of the coronavirus pandemic, and has been taking the opportunity to tell his story—and the stories of many like him—who spent their childhoods under a kind of quarantine as refugees. While sympathizing deeply with the hardships being faced all over the country, he and Scott hope that some Americans might come to see how inhumane life for the Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli occupiers is, given how strenuous this much smaller taste of quarantine can be. Ramzy Baroud's book of Palestinian prisoners' narratives , These Chains Will Be Broken , are stories of people forced to live under extremely cruel conditions yet maintaining their humanity and passion for justice . A discussion on conservation, the environment or peace with justice.
On this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Sputnik News Analyst Nicole Roussell to talk about Super Tuesday turnout in the battleground state of Virginia, why an age-based and racial divide seems to be separating Bernie Sanders supporters from those leaning towards the centrist candidates, what's motivating some of the voters turning out today, the extent to which the corporate media has succeeded in convincing anti-Trump voters that Joe Biden is the best candidate for the job, and why the most impassioned voters seemed to be flocking towards Sanders. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Dr. Ramzy Baroud, an internationally-syndicated columnist, media consultant, and author, to talk about the news that embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to have won yesterday's elections in Israel, why expectations that the Israeli electorate was suffering from a kind of 'voter fatigue' ultimately failed to materialize, why Palestinians increasingly perceive Israeli politics as having passed a point of no return and see little room for themselves in the country's political mainstream, why the Israeli government is never subjected to the critical media treatment shown towards other so-called "authoritarian" regimes, and why Sanders' refusal to kowtow to the Israeli government represents a kind of watershed moment for the anti-Zionist movement. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by comedian and activist Lee Camp, host and head writer of Redacted Tonight, to talk about his new book, "Bullet Points and Punch Lines," how he uses comedy as a tool to break through the corporate media blackout on independent voices, how his evolution as a comedian and political analyst informs his understanding of his role in our political landscape, why the mainstream press responds to alternative media with such apoplexy, why attempts by such programs to expose moves to manufacture consent for US imperialism are labeled "divisive" by economic elites, the news of MSNBC's Chris Matthews' retirement, and what the timing of Matthews' departure signals about the limits of acceptable pundit behavior.Later in the show, Jacquie and Sean are joined by Ben Norton, a journalist with the Grayzone and co-host of the Moderate Rebels podcast, to talk about ongoing attempts to rig the Democratic nomination contest against Bernie Sanders and the mass movement coalescing around him, how their move to block Bernie shows that the Democratic establishment is less of a political party and more of a gang of elites, what divisions may emerge internally should the party continue with its plan to rob Sanders of the nomination at a brokered convention, why supposedly forward-thinking corporate outlets like MSNBC and CNN are choosing to platform right-wing ideologues like Ana Navarro rather than working people, Navarro's dark history of lobbying for far-right governments in Latin America while whitewashing the history of Contra death squads, how corporate media uses opinion journalism to obfuscate the class interests at play in their reporting, whether Mike Bloomberg's "Greenwood Initiative" represents a genuine attempt to uplift working Black people or an attempt to cover for his years of doing the opposite, what Bloomberg may hope to accomplish by staying in the race at this point, what explains the stark difference between coverage of Bolivian President Evo Morales' attempt to change electoral rules to allow him a third term and coverage of Bloomberg's attempt to do the same in New York, why Bernie Sanders' campaign has managed to consistenly outperform electoral expectations and what that success reveals about the emptiness of conventional political wisdom, and why Bernie Sanders may be the only option for changing the system while working within its rules.
In this segment of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Dr. Ramzy Baroud, an internationally-syndicated columnist, author, and Editor of Palestine Chronicle, to talk about embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's likely victory in Israel's recent elections, how Netanyahu has maintained power despite being dogged by a slew of corruption charges, why expectations that the Israeli electorate was suffering from 'voter fatigue' ultimately failed to materialize, why Palestinians increasingly perceive Israeli politics as having passed a point of no return and see little room for themselves in the country's political mainstream, why the Israeli government is never subjected to the critical media treatment shown towards other so-called "authoritarian" regimes, and why Sanders' refusal to kowtow to the Israeli government represents a kind of watershed moment for the anti-Zionist movement.

Joe Catron went to Palestine’s Gaza Strip in March 2011, on the first international solidarity delegation to cross the Rafah border after the fall of Egypt’s Mubarak government, and lived there through October 2014. Over three and a half years in the besieged coastal enclave, he joined popular protests along Israel’s separation barrier, including many to mark Land Day, Nakba Day, and other Palestinian national commemorations, accompanied farmers and fishermen in Israeli-enforced access-restricted areas, supported campaigns in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners, and assisted local organizations through editing and training. During Israel’s military offensive in summer 2014, he and other international volunteers established a constant presence in hospitals threatened by Israeli bombardment and accompanied rescue efforts in conflict areas. His writing and photography from Palestine have appeared in +972 Magazine, BBC, Electronic Intifada, Middle East Eye, the New York Times, Newsweek, and various other media. He is in Max Blumenthal and Dan Cohen’s new documentary, Killing Gaza, and was profiled by Ramzy Baroud in his latest book, The Last Earth: A Palestinian Story. The current protests in Gaza have involved tens of thousands of people. It’s the largest sustained mobilisation of Palestinians in many years. Despite the largely peaceful nature of the protests, at least 48 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli Army, and many hundreds wounded. Dubbed the Great Return March, this new movement has given birth to a flowering of creative, non-violent resistance to the Zionist occupation. Palestinian scholar and author Dr Ramzy Baroud has written for many years on the history and politics of the Palestinian struggle. Alex Whisson interviewed Dr Baroud ahead of his Australian speaking tour, beginning with the question of why the Palestinian struggle for justice and nationhood has for so long been grossly mischaracterised as terrorism and nothing but terrorism.
Foreign meddling in electoral politics can legitimately be compared to an act of war. Just ask the voters of Honduras whose popular president was forced out of office at gunpoint by agents working for the interests of offshore corporations. Since the replacement of Mel Zelaya in 2009 the coupsters, anointed by the good offices of El Norte, have run roughshod over the rights and dignity of the people, putting in place by hook, crook, bullets and batons an old-fashioned fascist regime; a banana republic the likes of which has not been seen since the last time Uncle Sam ran the show. Jesse Freeston is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and video journalist. A seminal member of The Real News Network, he's also produced documentaries for teleSUR, the world's largest Spanish-language public broadcaster, and his latest film, Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley documents an agrarian take-over of palm oil plantations by share-cropping farmers. He's currently working on his next independent film, Human Park. Jesse is back in Honduras and a few weeks ago released the two-part report, 'Honduras: The Never-Ending Coup' on TRNN. Jesse Freeston in the first half. And; media-shaded the last few years by neigbouring regional conflicts, and more recently by the Olympics and spotlight hogging Trump political circus, Gaza, and Palestine generally, has garnered scant coverage in North America's press. That changed a little with Israel's aerial and tank bombardment of the embattled enclave last week; but that the attention would hover a little longer there to reveal the desperate, ongoing plight of the World's largest and longest refugee crisis. Dr. Ramzy Baroud is an American-Arab journalist, media consultant, syndicated columnist, educator, founder and editor of the Palestine Chronicle, past editor of numerous online and print news organizations, and author. He's currently embarking on a World-tour to promote his latest book, 'The Last Earth: A Palestinian Story' to provide, he says, "a new take on the history of the Palestinian people, one in which the refugees are the core theme". That tour will bring Ramzy to our town next week, 7pm Friday March 2nd, right here at UVic's David Strong building. Ramzy Baroud and bringing the voice to Palestine's refugees in the second half. And; Victoria-based activist and CFUV broadcaster at-large, Janine Bandcroft will be here with the Left Coast Events bulletin to bring us up to speed with some of what's good going on in and around Victoria in the coming week.
